ATV Accessory Basics

Is it ever enough with just the four wheels on your ATV? Never, we?re thinking. But to err on the prudent side, perhaps, we may have to think, first, of the more practical accessories before thinking about other fancier things. But once you?ve made that connection with your ATV, it is rather hard not to WANT to add a few fancy gadgets and gizmos to it just to make the experience a little bit more fun and personal. By personalizing the ATV of your dreams, it makes it more ?yours? and gives you a deeper sense of pride.

So, let?s start with the more practical stuff.

The practical ATV accessories you might want to consider

Now, the first thing we may have to consider is how to get organized. This is your baby you?re talking about, right? so, you?ve got to make sure you have everything concerning your ATV under COMPLETE control. Let?s start with storage box where you keep all the essentials in a safe, dry, dust-proof and proper environment. Otherwise, getting yourself some lids and tonneaus should be considered. These lids and tonneaus can serve to your ATV.

This depends on where you store your ATV and also how often you go out camping or leave your ATV in wide open spaces. If you do it often, we recommend that you get some form of shield or cover to protect your ATV rust, dust and?.urgh, insects. Check out hood shields, bug deflectors or grille covers for your ATV for outdoor use.

Now onto the fancier ATV accessories

Fancy some cute or funky-looking pedals and knobs to make ATV riding just that little bit more fun? There are tons of creative and unique designs to be found on the Internet! If you?ve been using your ATV for some time, you might find the handles a little bit worn out, so, the thing to do is to replace them with something really funky. Most of the mentioned ATV accessories are relatively inexpensive (it depends on who you buy it from).

It?s interesting to note that most ATVs in the market make their front boxes a couple of sizes too short and their back boxes a wee bit too large, instead. If you don?t like it, why not accessorize your ATV with a really classy front box? Most of these front boxes can actually hold TWO full-face helmets?.and they?re really sleek-looking too. And while you?re at it, why not get yourself a cargo bag as well? Just remember to get a cargo bag without zippers because fumbling with zippers while on an ATV can get?well?erm, clumsy.

We also recommend a good insulated sippy-holder (bottle holder) for the times when you need a really cool drink. Most of the bottle holders in the market today come with Velcro straps that you can hook onto?just about anything.

Go and accessorize your ATV today and give it the ?you? feel.

The Best Laid Woodworking Plans

So think you’d like to build a bathroom cabinet. Perhaps a new curio for the front room is in order. You even recognize how nice it would be to make a captain’s bed with a full set of drawers underneath and a headboard that holds books. If you have big plans for building something out of wood, then make sure you have the right woodworking plans and patterns so that you can do it like the professionals.

What’s In a Woodworking Plan

Commercially sold or free woodworking plans found online take all the guess work out of a project. A good plan, not only list the lumber you will need - type and quantity, but it can give you estimates on how long the whole project will take and evaluate it by skill level. For example, a beginner may not be ready for a curved wood curio cabinet top, but could really do nicely making a lighthouse style birdhouse.

Wood working patterns also contain a hardware and accessories list. You will know ahead of time just how many hinges, knobs and drawer rails your project requires. It will give a description of the best materials to use and even where to get them.

A tool list helps you make sure you have everything you need to work with your supply list. Many plans don’t assume you already own any of the tools so the list is comprehensive and complete. If you need a particular saw blade, the plans will let you know right there in black and white.

Another helpful part about using a woodworking pattern is that all your measurements are there. If you are making the captain’s bed with underneath storage drawers, you will not need to calculate or guess the width each drawer needs to be in order to fit three across. The figuring has been done for you. Even better than just planning, the plan author has most likely made the project several times, so they know from experience.

How Hard Is It To Read Woodworking Plans?

Many plans are created to overcome the language barrier. Pictures illustrate each step and are often all that is necessary without added written descriptions. For those steps that may need the additional explanation, written directions are usually in several of the most common world languages.

You don’t need to have a degree in hammering and gluing to understand how these directions work. If you have every put one of those “some assembly required” toys together, then you will be pleasantly surprised that reading woodworking plans is actually easier!

The Finishing Touches

Many wood working patterns come with illustrations or photographs of the finished project. Line drawings are always included, but it is also nice to see the finished piece in a photograph. This will give you ideas for staining or painting the finished wood project. Also you can get an idea of how it might look in a room in your home. Don’t be afraid to take on a wood working project just because you can’t see how it’s all put together from the outside. Chances are somebody has wanted to make one of their own and has drawn up just the pattern you need.

The Origins of Our LCD Screens and High Definiton Plasma TV in Vintage Computer Monitors

It may be amazing to current computer users who are used to small compact LCD monitors. Not only were initial computer monitors large and cumbersome but that the early monitors used by computer enthusiasts were Cathode Ray Monitors that were not color,

Initial vintage monitors were monochrome - one color only not the brilliant color displays that we take for granted today.

Some of these monochrome monitors were green or orange iridescent. Others were similar to a black and white television that is grey scale.

It is taken for granted now by young computer surfers and gamers that television was always “color”, not so.

Initially TV broadcasts were in “black and white “.

Color TV had been developed but the technology but the widespread use did not arise till the early 1970’s and even later in some areas.

The broadcasts were seen as black and white on those sets and color on color sets.
Color TVs could receive programs that were in the black and white mode as well. Sort of the backwards compatibility of the day.

What then would be the difference between the picture qualities of a television set a monitor has vastly greater resolution than standard TV sets.

The TV sets of that time (as opposed to current high end LCD and plasma high definition TVs) were basically 1950’s technology - even the newer color TV sets. .

A monitor’s screen display should be stable and of good quality, since the computer user may sit very close to the monitor and spend many hours reading the display.

If the images are fuzzy (low resolution) or waver constantly, you would have a throbbing headache and wavering eyes in no time.

Monitors have knobs to adjust for clarity. On vintage monochrome monitors these usually include a brightness knob which adjusts the illumination of the entire screen, and a contrast knob which makes the letters lighter or darker in relation to the background screen newer color monitors will have additional adjustments for color.

The question will arise - how did the vintage CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors initially handle the color technology which came later and became the accepted standard.

A typical color monitor screen worked in much the same way as a standard CRT television.

The inside of the picture tube is coated with three different phosphors: red, green and blue.

Phosphors are special chemical compounds that glow with characteristic colors when bombarded a stream of electrons.

The phosphor gets “excited” and thanks to the additive properties of the color wheel the different colored lights resulting get mixed and that all types of combinations of the three primary colors result.

The end result is that virtually any color of the rainbow can be produced.

And as for the color white the eyes play a useful trick. When all three colors are mixed together in equal quantities, the eye sees this as “white light”.

Finally the sharpness of the CRT color monitor or a TV set’s image is determined by three factors: the monitor’s bandwidth, its dot pitch, and the accuracy of its convergence.

Although the bandwidth and dot pitch are important to determine a good monitor, convergence is the real measurement.

Indeed we have come a long way from the initial simple vintage monochrome monitors. What we now take for granted with LCD monitors and indeed our high definition TV sets all originated with simple CRT monochrome monitor technology which was merged with the technology and tricks gleaned from the color TV industry.

We should all be grateful. We owe much to “Uncle Miltie”.

Great Ways To Give Your Old Cabinets A New Look

Cupboards are everywhere, but regardless of their station, all cabinets serve one purpose: storage.

Some cabinets require less usage. A curio cabinet or trophy case is a good example of this particular cabinet. We put items in these cabinets that we want to look at on a regular basis, but we don?t tend to use these cabinets very often. We don?t open and close them very much. However, some cabinets see a lot of action. Kitchen and bathroom cabinets get lots of action. It doesn?t really matter what you have in your cabinets. What is important is to realize that sooner or later, you will have to make some minor repairs to keep your cabinets looking great.

Probably, the most expense way to restore old cabinets is to remove and replace. Be aware, though, that there are several issues to consider when buying new cabinets. Wood will obviously cost more than most other materials. However, it is usually more attractive and longer lasting. The overall design of the cabinets as well as the number of cabinets will also play a large factor in the price of the cabinets. As the artistry or architecture of the cabinet gets more complicated, the price rises. For example, a simple flat door design may cost as little as $40 per door, whereas a more complicated door with even a few etchings may be as much as $100 per door. Design matters when you are on a tight budget.

Refacing is another way to restore old cabinets without ?tearing down the house?. This process only involved the removal and replacement of the facing of the drawers and cabinets and does not involve removing any of the frame work. The cost for such a renovation is substantially lower than new cabinets, and the finished product is produced much quicker. Refacing can be performed in approximately three days, whereas complete replacement of cabinets can take as long as a couple of months. However, just as in replacement cabinetry, extricate design will cost more.

If your budget does not allow for the replacement or restoration of new cabinets, there are still things you can do to make your cabinets look new again. New knobs and drawer pulls are relatively inexpensive and can make a world of difference in the overall look and feel of the cabinetry. If you don?t get quite the look you were after, try also replacing the hinges. New hinges will also make your cabinet doors look better and brighter.

For a little more money, try painting or refinishing your wooden cabinets. You don?t have to remove all the old paint or stain before repainting or staining. You can sand the cabinets and drawers (everything that can be seen) just enough for paint or stain to stick to it. (Read the directions carefully if you choose to restain. Staining may require extra preparation.) If you are painting, be sure to you a primer before applying the final coat of paint. This will ensure that the paint will adhere to the cabinetry.

Changing Your Locks For Improved Security

Changing your locks may sound like a simple task, but this is true only if you know what you are doing. There are many different styles of handles on the market. The locking mechanisms on certain styles vary and each has a unique function. If you are going to change your locks, be sure to know what type works best and why. Here is some useful information on styles and basics of changing a lock. Knowing what the lock is used for is important in finding the style that best meets your security needs.

Free through Passage Handles: These handles are exactly as they sound. You will not have to worry about locks. They come in either a knob type handle style or a level style which is very popular. Before purchasing these handles, though, be sure you do not need a lock.

Privacy Door Knobs: These handles are often used in the bedroom or bathroom. You can unlock the door by either turning the knob or turning an extra switch on the inside of the door. These are great for those areas where privacy is desired most.

Security Deadbolt Lock: The single deadbolt lock is a great style lock is good for any entrance to the home, whether the front or back door. However, it is best to use this lock with doors that do not have side lights or a glass pane since entrance would be fairly easy. One would only have to break the glass and reach in to turn the knob. The double deadbolt lock can provide extra strength and security to your doors. It can be locked form the inside or the outside using a key. You can also add a chain, for example, to provide even more security.

Decorative Door Knobs, Deadbolt and Latch Set: These handles help improve your home?s appearance. They are often placed on French doors. You can also use them on pantries if there is nothing hazardous inside, which should be kept from small children for instance. There are no locks on these decorative handles, but a little more security can be implemented with a decorative deadbolt and latch set. You can use these two pieces together or by themselves, depending on your needs.

You must now determine if the door handle you currently have is appropriate. To make this determination, you should first look at the latch plate. The hole may not be deep enough for a higher quality latch. Open and remove the existing latch plate, which is on the inside of your door. If it does not fit into the old hole, you will need to chisel the hole to give it a deeper depth. Also, be sure to check that the plunger for the deadbolt lines up with the hole in the frame since the lock will not provide proper security otherwise. Adding longer screws into the pre-drilled areas on the latch plate can add extra security.

The Least Marketing You Can Do - and Still Have a Successful Small Business

Why do small business owners get such poor results from their marketing? You can sum this up in three reasons: They don’t know what to do, or they don’t know how to do it. Sometimes, even when they know both of these, they just don’t do it!

Not marketing is bad for business.

Marketing is by far the most misunderstood aspect of small business. Many people think it’s selling, which it isn’t. Some people avoid doing marketing, because they fear it’s too pushy and will make them feel needy. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If you love your business and love your customers, you can love marketing. After all, it’s just talking to people you love about something you love, which is your vocation.

Convinced? OK, maybe not yet. Let’s take a look at the three elements of marketing that are the absolute minimum you can do and still have a successful business.

  1. Marketing is about creating awareness in your target audience.
Unfortunately, most people don’t have psychic powers to sense that you are out there, available to help them.

Instead, we have to make them aware of ourselves. And then, we need to communicate to them in a way that lets them know how they will benefit from whatever we do.

So the first piece of this is a target audience. Since I don’t like the idea of shooting my audience with an arrow or a bullet, I prefer the term “intended audience.” Whom do I intend to serve in my business?

Again, we have to be specific. “Everyone,” “people” and other general terms like this are no good. Even “women” is too general. What kind of women are they? “Brides-to-be who want to capture their wedding memories on film” is better. “Mothers of children with autism” works well, too.

Articulating your intended audience with precision is one of the three things you must do. You will not be successful if you don’t do this step.

  2. Now that you know who they are, how will you reach them? Where do they go? What do they read? How could they find out about you?

If you’re a restaurant, you may rely on nothing more than an excellent location to create awareness (like in a food court in a mall). Most of us have to do more.

A residential cleaning service may put up flyers at the supermarket or hang something on neighborhood doorknobs. A financial planner may attend networking events or speak at trade association meetings. A catering company could advertise in a local bridal magazine. A pressure washing service may go door-to-door, knocking.

Getting in front of your audience - whether literally in person, with an ad or an article, or through product sampling - is the second thing you must do. Again, no success without this step.

  3. The third and final “least marketing you can do” is to craft a message. If you know your intended audience and get in front of them, what will you say - or broadly, communicate - to them? How will they know that what you are offering is something they should buy?

The core part of your message is your value statement. This is when you tell your intended audience why you are exactly the right choice for them. Think beyond your process ? what you do and how you do it ? to the final result, the benefit; think big!

Recently, a hotel events planner gave her value statement this way: “When you’re planning a business meeting and there’s no room for mistakes, we ensure a seamless event.” The caterer we talked about could specialize in vegetarian meals, and might say: “I offer vegetarian meals that are so delicious, even the carnivores will want seconds.”

You can vary your message all you want, but the requirement is that there is one. Be sure, when you have the awareness of your intended audience, they leave not with a question mark over their heads, but with an understanding of your value.

Now, that is the least marketing you can do and still be successful.

Hinkley Lighting has created an excellent family of lighting in the transitional style.  Transitional style lighting is the middle of the road between traditional and modern lighting.  It is not overly done, nor is it too simplistic.  Lines are definite, and in the Bolla family, they have curls, but are not “fussy” or too intricate.  The Bolla family from Hinkley puts out warm, inviting light instead of the harsh

Ezine Reading A Must for Success

Anyone that spends any time on-line will quickly learn the

importance of publishing your own ezine. I do not remember

one Gurus information reports that I have read that did

not suggest that you create your own ezine to aid in

building an on-line business.

What I do no believe I have ever read anything about though

is the importance of reading these Ezines!

With the Ezines that I subscribe to that publish daily or

more then once a week, I probably get 150 plus Ezines a week.

And I read every one of them.

I will admit that this is a very time consuming task especially

on Fridays when many weekly Ezines go out. As some of your know

I work full-time at home now and spend an average of 80-100

hours a week on building my on-line businesses.

I could probably cut out well over 15 hours a week if I just

unsubscribed to all these Ezines, or just deleted them all.

Why would anyone spend that amount of time reading Ezines

each week? The list is almost endless!

First, I have to be honest and say that I am afraid I am

going to miss something if I do not take time to read these.

Most Ezines are more then just a bunch of ads. To me, they

are my newspapers for on-line life.

From some of these I build personal relationships. I am kept

updated on the struggles one publisher is having with their

health and trying to keep all the work caught up. Another

shares the vacation highlights that they took. So why

should you care about who is sick or who went where?

If you work full-time at home, it can be a very isolated life.

I will admit this is part of the appeal for me. I also know

that I can not lose touch with the fact that people out there

are real. They have pains and trials, good times and bad,

and they take vacations. They are human and they are what

I want my on-line life to be about.

By reading about what is going on with other publishers, I

am reminded that I will have tough times, and that I can make

it through them. I am reminded that I am not alone in spirit

even though I work alone. And I am reminded to get off the

computer and have some fun occasionally, like taking a much

needed vacation.

The next thing I gain from reading all these Ezines is

knowledge, plain and simple. No one ever knows it all no

matter how long you might have been doing something. By

reading other publishers, I find knowledge that I can put

to use, and information I want to share with you. The useful

resources I find in all these Ezines are endless.

I also get ideas on how to improve my ezine. If there is

an ezine I particularly like, I look at why and see how I

can incorporate that positive into The-Net-Review. I find

ideas on how to grow this ezine so that my readers get

more benefit from their advertising.

Even the few Ezines that are not my favorites tell me

what I dont want to do like make The-Net-Review nothing

but an advertisement medium for me and my interests.

One of the biggest benefits I get from reading all these

Ezines comes from advertising opportunities. I place every

free ad I am offered. I enter every contest for chances

for free classifieds or solos. I send out my articles to

other Ezines for the writing experience and the free publicity.

Granted, classified advertising does not work as well as

solo ads do, but they do work. Take advantage of every

free advertising opportunity you can find until you can

afford a bigger advertising budget.

I also learn from reading others ads. If I am seeing

advertisements for a business opportunity in virtually

every ezine I read, I know that I should check it out.

You can often times end up much higher in a matrix for

a hot business opportunity because you saw the growth

before someone that doesnt bother with Ezines.

As I said at the start, the benefits that come from

reading Ezines can be endless. When you are trying to

figure out what to start on next, or get motivated to

even start, pull up an ezine. Spend a while reminding

yourself what you are trying to build, to accomplish.

Relax for a while then get back to work.

I understand how precious at-home work time can be if

you are also working full-time outside the home.

I firmly believe the time we put into reading Ezines

pays off tenfold. If you need to, print out some and

read them on your work breaks or lunch. I print off

e-books and read them while my daughter and I watch a

show together. She really doesnt care if I see the show,

she just wants me off the computer and close to her for

awhile.

Only you can decided if the time sacrifices that

reading a bunch of Ezines may take pays off for you.

But you wont know the benefits you are missing until

you spend the time seeing what you are missing.

There is a principle which is a bar against all

FAB FLIERS FOR SOARING SALESMeredith Pond

Could your small business use a boost without breaking the bank?
Well, contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to spend a lot
of money to get decent results.

Even in this day and age, you still see occasional ads and fliers
on your front porch, windshield, tucked under your door, or in
your mailbox. Why? It’s simple: because they work!

Especially during summer months, when people are out and about,
working in the yard or taking walks through the neighborhood,
distributing fliers can be a very effective way to market your
small business.

You might be thinking that most of these fliers will eventually
end up in the trash can. That may be true, but before you
dismiss fliers as a marketing tool, think about what you do with
a flier BEFORE you throw it away. Don’t you at least look at it
first to see what it is? Better yet, do you keep it around to
use as scratch paper? Anything that will get your flier inside
the house will help you get your foot in the door.

Now, if you’re concerned about littering, try attaching rubber
bands to your fliers and hanging them around doorknobs instead of
laying them on porches. This will ensure that your flier is
seen, plus keep them from blowing around the street. If you want
your fliers to be more environmentally friendly, try printing
them on recycled paper and including a note at the bottom to
remind your prospects to recycle. If you want to take it a step
further, give them a date when you’ll be driving through their
neighborhood with a truck, picking up things to take to the
nearest recycling plant. You’ll not only help clean up the
neighborhood and our environment, but you’ll also get a chance to
be seen (with your logo on your truck) and even talk to people
face-to-face.

Now let’s discuss the nuts and bolts of putting your flier
together. First and most obvious, make copies of your flier on
brightly-colored paper. This will make them visible and more
likely to be picked up.

When writing your flier, keep in mind that you’re not writing the
great American novel. Keep your fliers to a half-sheet, allowing
you to save a lot of money and a lot of paper. The type should
be bold and large, in an easy-to-read font so it takes very
little time to read.

All your flier really needs is a snappy headline, a bulleted list
of the benefits of your product or service, and a phone number
with your business name. The headline will grab their attention,
the list will quickly state what you can do for them, and your
phone number, well, that’s obvious, isn’t it?

In short, a responsible flier campaign is a simple, down-to-
earth, effective way to get the word out. Best of all, they’re
nearly FREE!

FACTORING AS A SOURCE OF BUSINESS FUNDINGBerwyn J. Kemp

FACTORING AS A SOURCE OF BUSINESS FUNDING

By: Berwyn J. Kemp

Do you supply products and services to commercial customers and are unable to secure traditional bank financing? If so, do you very often have to wait 30 to 90 days or longer for your customers to pay your invoices? Which often leaves you short of the capital you need to effectively operate and build your business.

If you answered yes to both of these questions. Then there could be a source of business funding that could work for your business. That source of funding is the factoring of your accounts receivable invoices. Which could very well give you the capital you need to more effectively operate, expand, and grow. Because youll no longer have to wait for your customers to pay your invoices.

Whats more, the factoring of your accounts receivable invoices is much easier source of financing to access that traditional commercial bank financing. Because the factor doesnt look at the credit rating of your business, nor do they look at your personal credit rating. Both of which can be a problem particularly for new businesses. And other kinds of Businesses that dont meet the very conservative standards of most commercial banks. Instead factors base their decision to factor or not to factor your invoices on the credit of your customers.

Therefore, if you supply products and services to commercial customers who have good credit ratings, such as, government agencies, well established commercial firms, hospitals, universities, insurance companies, etc.. Then you can more than likely qualify for accounts receivable factoring.

In addition, as a rule, factors dont require long term contracts as in more traditional kinds of lending, nor do they ever audit your books. For these reasons and more, this makes obtaining an accounts receivable factoring loan a relatively quick, simple, and easy process, to give you the business funds that you need.

What the factor basically does is advance you between 70% to 80% of the value of your commercial invoices. The factor then collects the invoices directly from your customer. Once the factor collects on the invoices they subtract their fee, and then sends you the balance of the invoice amount. What will factoring cost you? Well, factoring fees start at about 4% for invoices collected within 30 days goes up to about 15% for invoices collected in 120 days or so. Thus, the fee depends on when the factor actually collects the invoice.

There are some business people who wrongly believe that factoring makes them appear financially unsound to their customers. If this is what you believe it is simply not true. Today many modern firms are factoring their accounts receivables. As a way to get the capital they need to effectively operate and build their profits faster. In fact, many commercial banks are actively referring they cant finance to factors. In addition, a number of major commercial banks have actually opened factoring divisions.

While factoring is not right for every business, it could be right for your business as a source of business funds that works for you. Particularly if your business is new, or you are unable to tap traditional commercial bank financing. Then factoring could very well be the answer to your business funding needs.

Mow and Maintain Your (susan gold stick inc) Lawn

More info…
Having a someone come to mow and maintain your lawn during the summer is not only a huge time savings for you, but is also a great way to make sure that your lawn and shrubbery is in good health. The nice weather also brings diseases and insect infestation to trees, shrubs, and grass.

The Porch Swing

My favorite place around here are the two porch swings, one on the front
of the house and one on the side. A porch swing, with its gentle sway
creating a cooling breeze and of course its squeak is a great place to
gain perspective. Dont underestimate the value of the squeak because
swinging without the squeak is like dancing without music.

This life lends itself to lots of decision making and it is said before
making any serious decisions look at things from a different perspective.
I personally take this to mean I should never make a decision before
thinking about it on both the front porch swing and the side porch swing.

Perspective has several meanings but my favorite is view. The side
porch has more of a business perspective with the dairy barns, silo and
calves in clear sight while the front porch has more of an easy going
perspective.

Business decisions cant be made with just a view from the side porch
swing because our lifestyle doesnt become part of the equation.
Lifestyle decisions must first be made from the view from that side porch
because the farm pretty much dictates when and what we do.

Life is easier from the front porch swing with a view of the traffic on
the slow moving country road, the creek wandering past, the emerald
green, tree covered knobs in the background , and the rolling farmland
in the foreground. The headaches of the farm can slip away, if only for
a few moments from the perspective in the front porch swing.

The side porch swing on the other hand lets us see not only our
upcoming tasks but also our accomplishments. A good herd of dairy
cows, a nice group of heifers, (the future of this dairy) and the facilities
to care for them both.

When things are going well I most enjoy the side porch view but
when I want to escape, the front porch lets me turn my back to the
farm if only for a few moments.

Two totally different perspectives on the same subject both within
twenty feet of each other. I guess its all mental but isnt everything.

The Benefits of Stereo Microscopes

Many people have trouble keeping one eye closed while peering through a microscope lens with the other eye. A stereo microscope eliminates the need to close one eye because it has two eyepieces. Stereo Microscopes have all of the features of conventional microscopes with some added advantages. First of all, stereo microscopes have two eyepieces. They allow for greater depth perception, allowing viewers to see objects in three dimensions. Many stereo microscopes have a zoom lens feature, and it is not uncommon to find a stereo microscope with two illuminators.

A stereo microscope has two eyepieces. This is a major advantage over conventional microscopes. The two eyepieces allow viewers to keep both eyes open, making it easier to focus on the object they are looking at. Many stereo microscopes have comfortable rubber eye guards that make the microscopes even more user friendly.

A major advantage of stereo microscopes is that they allow viewers to see objects in three dimensions. Most microscopes only show objects in two dimensions. People can look at insects, plants, coins, or anything else in all three dimensions, providing the most realistic viewing experience imaginable.

Many stereo microscopes have a zoom lens feature. This provides nearly limitless options for resolution and gives users more control over focus. The zoom lens allows users to slowly enlarge the object they are viewing more easily than conventional microscopes, which have two knobs to adjust.

Another feature found on many stereo microscopes is a dual illuminator system. A stereo microscope has the conventional illuminator below the stage as well as another one right above the objective lens. This provides more than enough light to view specimens in all of their three dimensional glory.

Stereo microscopes are versatile and easy to use. They are perfect for students or anyone else who wants to explore the miniature world around them.

Choosing An Appropriate Digital Camera

If you’ve resisted buying a digital camera up until now then you’re really missing out. Digicams have come a long way since the early days and many models rival conventional cameras with ease.

Take a few minutes to decide what you’ll be using it for. Simple family snaps or something a little more creative? Visiting a high tech camera store can be daunting task with many dozens of cameras on display. Which do you go for? Some are as small as a bank card, others are huge with all manner of knobs and buttons. Maybe you can see yourself smugly showing off your new micro-thin digital camera but before you make your decision, it’s important to zone in on the main reason you’re buying the machine in the first place.

Are you looking for an ultra compact model which fits nicely in your pocket? Or are you expecting to be snapping more professional pics for your work? Do you think too many options may confuse you or are you happy with modern digital menus etc? Think about whether you’d like a camera with some manual functions too. The last thing you want to do is return home with a camera that is not exactly matched to your situation or skill level.

If you’re new to the digital camera revolution, try to brush up on the terminology used. Acquaint yourself with the various camera specifications. The Google search engine is a great place to do some research. The salesmen will of course try to make you believe that your dinky, micro-thin, ultra expensive digicam will transform you into a David Bailey clone. Don’t believe the hype.

You’ll see the term ‘Mega Pixel’ everywhere. This is simply the maximum resolution that the camera will produce. The higher this value is, the larger your photos will go before they become blurred. If you think that you’ll only be sending pics back and fore on the web then a 2 megapixel model will do just fine. Don’t be confused with optical zoom and digital zoom. They are two very different things. Digital zoom is not a true zoom. All it does is process the pic with a loss of image quality usually resulting. If you like your zoom function, always go for an optical version.

How much can you spend? While digital cameras are dropping in price significantly these days, a decent machine will still set you back a pretty penny. When deciding on your budget, be sure to consider the dimensions, the features, its resolution (megapixels) and the manufacturer.

Every photographer will have their favourite brand. If you fear change then stick to what you know. Go for a brand that you have got on well with in the past. If you’re a little more adventurous then you can have much more fun in that digicam store.

Some other things to consider include the memory card. This is the equivalent of the film in a regular camera. Most digicams use SmartMedia Flash cards and you can pick up 128 meg cards on the Internet pretty cheap these days. Furthermore, what type of batteries does the camera take? You’ll find that the majority of digital cameras take AA cells, so you may want to consider rechargeable options.

Lastly, always but always try the digital camera in the store before you part with your cash. Many people get all excited, not really checking the machine out as much as they could. Then when they return home they find it’s not really the tool they thought it was. Get trigger happy in the shop. The sales assistants won’t mind and if they do then go somewhere else. Note the ergonomics - does it fit nicely in your hand? Can you get to all the essential buttons easily? Take your time to check out all the features and ask lots of questions. Follow this guide and you’ll be the proud owner of a digital camera that will see you right for a long time.

Do-it-yourself tips for summer remodeling projects

(ARA) - Ah, summer. Between neighborhood softball games and trips to the community pool, it’s the biggest time of the year for moving and home remodeling.

While many of us turn our thoughts to upgrading our homes, our budgets may already be tapped. Here are some simple do-it-yourself ideas to spruce up your home, specifically the kitchen and bath, without breaking your budget.

Jazz up cabinets with snappy new drawer pulls.

One of the simplest ways to add pizzazz to the kitchen is to install new cabinet hardware, says home improvement expert Don Vandervort of www.hometips.com. “At your local hardware store you’ll find a wide array of drawer pull designs - from painted ceramic or metal knobs, to whimsical designs shaped like knives and forks. Simply unscrew your existing cupboard hardware, replace with the new, and presto, you’ve completed a quick an inexpensive update for your home.”

Pour on the charm: upgrade the faucet.

A beautifully designed faucet can change the look of your sink area and the way you feel about your drinking water. Simple faucet design lines can make a clean and modern addition to the kitchen or bathroom sink, while some faucet models can even improve the taste of the water coming from the tap. “Not everyone likes the taste of their tap water,” says Vandervort. “For those who choose the filtration route, an attractive, yet practical solution is the ClearTap Water Filtering Kitchen or Lavatory Faucet, made by American Standard. It removes contaminants, retains fluoride, and produces clean, good tasting water with the turn of a faucet handle.”

Kids climbing the walls? Try scrubbable paint.

Ketchup, food, scuff marks, mud all these things can just be wiped clean with some of the new high-performance paint finishes available today. “Interior paints have a scrubbability rating, established through standardized testing,” Vandervort says. “Though this rating may not be posted on the can, a paint retailer should have information on the rating.”

“One problem with using a flat paint on interior walls is that it doesn’t take kindly to scrubbing,” he says. “If you scrub it with a damp cloth, you’ll remove the dirt or smudge, but the exposed pigment particles can ruin the finish. To avoid this, choose a high performance paint (not flat), that can stand up to a good washing.”

Expand space with drawer organizers.

Is a small-sized kitchen or bath cramping your style? Try adding drawer organizers to increase your storage space. These days, you can find a nice range of inexpensive racks and slide-in baskets at discount and hardware stores. Whether you store cleaning utensils, Grandma’s vintage pie pans, or your favorite bath salts you can create new nooks and crannies for all of your stuff, and get the clutter off the counter.

Gain a foothold on more attractive flooring.

Flooring makes a huge difference in the appearance of a kitchen or bath. “Oftentimes vinyl flooring is dated and worn,” Vandervort says. “But the good news is that you can go ahead and lie new vinyl or laminated wood material right over the old flooring. Many of the items available today give the look of ceramic tile or natural wood at a lower cost.”

Brighten it up.

For an easy and inexpensive way to brighten up a kitchen, install under-the-counter lighting. A small purchase at the hardware store is all it takes to completely change the way the light hits the surfaces of a room. You can also save energy dollars by choosing the right lighting. “Switch from incandescent light bulbs to highly efficient compact fluorescents, and you’ll use about one-quarter to one-third less energy to produce the same amount of light,” Vandervort says. Another tip: move natural light further into rooms by bouncing it off the ceiling. A window located close to the ceiling works for this, as do louvers or operable blinds that can help direct light.

Make a tiny bathroom look larger.

Even a bathroom the size of a phone booth can look larger with a little ingenuity, according to www.americanstandard-us.com. Try using lighter, cooler colors: they feel airy and trick the eye. Wallpaper with a smaller pattern also helps expand the space. Try some on the ceiling, or emphasize horizontal lines with a coordinating border. Or try installing bath tile that contains a subtle pattern and then repeat it onto the floor. If your bath is really petite, try using a trim pedestal lavatory or wall hung fixtures - both free up valuable floor space. Also, remember to go heavy on the lighting and choose reflective surfaces, such as a shiny marble vanity.

Model Home Secrets To Getting Your Empty Home Sold In Six Weeks Or Less

If you are trying to sell an empty home, you may have found this to be a blessing and a curse.

An empty home is easy to show. Buyers might like that fact that they can move right in. Potential buyers might even have an easier time seeing themselves in the home.

On the other hand, an empty home may feel cold and impersonal. Buyers are looking for a home that they can fall in love with. Even if your home is the nicest home that they buyers look at, if they don?t ?feel the love?; they will probably buy someone else?s home.

How I got started staging homes

I started staging homes several years ago. I had gotten my real estate sales license during a dreadful buyers market. The market was so bad that most well priced homes were taking six to twelve months to sell.

I started staging my new empty home listings after selling a home that had been staged by the owners. It was the owners second home and the decorations were perfect. This home sold and closed in six weeks! Not only that, but I had other buyers in the wings ready to buy, if the first buyers failed to close. I realized I was on to something.

I bought and studied a book called ?Dress Your House for Success? by Martha Web. Her book helped me to figure out how to repeat the ?six week home sale?, over and over again. The fast sales made my clients happy! The fast commissions made me happy!

I bought staging items which cost me about $300. Then I staged and empty home that I had listed for sale. Shazam! The home sold in six weeks despite the buyers market.

Home staging doesn?t always work as expected, but if the home is priced right and has enough showings, six weeks is my average time to sell an empty, staged home.

How you can easily stage an empty home so that it sells quickly

First of all, I make sure the home is sparkling clean. You want everything to look as close to new as possible. All chrome must shine. All stains, from every surface, must be removed. Windows, the window screens and window sills should sparkle. Touch up paint or repaint as needed. The flooring, including tile and carpet, must look and smell clean. Dust and cobwebs must go! Clean like you?ve never cleaned before!

An empty house can be staged without moving any furniture into the home. To stage my listings, I only have to move in four plastic boxes of light-weight decorative items plus several silk or plastic plants.

What I am trying to do is to create a ?model home? look, but without the furniture. If you?re not sure what I mean, visit a few model homes. Model homes are a wonderful and quick education in staging. Ignore the furniture in the model homes, and instead concentrate on the decorations. Take a camera with you, to take pictures, if you want.

The following is a room by room description of the items I use to stage a home. You can decide where each item should be placed, and how many to use. Don?t over do it, but ?stark? is not a good look either. All staging items must be new or look new. No exceptions! Make sure the silk plants are cleaned regularly.

Staging the front door:

? Place a brand new, fun door mat in front of the door. I buy a new one for each home I stage.

? If the door has a hook to hang seasonal items on, do so when appropriate.

? The front door area has to look neat and clean. Sweep the steps and side walk and wipe down the door if needed. Make sure the front door light and doorknobs shine. First impressions count.

Kitchen staging items:

? Place exciting and interesting kitchen towels and oven mitts that match the towels on the kitchen counter.

? I place veggie / oil filled decorative glass jars, grouped together on the counter.

? Silk plants and silk plants in baskets: one for the top of the fridge, more for on top of the cabinets, and if appropriate, one for the counter top.

? Decorative (empty) soap and hand cream dispensers.

? I have put together a gift basket (for decoration only) which I put on the kitchen counter. It includes all sorts of fun kitchen items, towels and knick knacks. I do this to add emotional appeal to the kitchen and home.

? Other interesting items to suit your tastes.

? I also replace any burned out light bulbs.

Bathroom staging items:

? Big, soft, fluffy new towels, large and small, tied up with raffia or decorative cords.

? Decorative soaps

? Matching soap dishes, toothbrush holders, cups etc. Buy some that are fun for the guest baths, and buy some classy, romantic ones for the master bathroom!

? Lots of candles and candle holders. Don?t be cheap on these. Get the nicest you can buy.

? More silk plants

? If you feel it will help, buy and use a new rod and shower curtain. I have done this before. You will know when and where to use these.

? I replace all burned out light bulbs. If the bulbs wattages are too low, I will replace them with brighter lights.

Items for the living room, the family room and bedrooms:

? Large and small silk plants placed to enhance nice areas or placed take the eyes of the buyer away from areas that you don?t want the buyers to concentrate on.

? More silk plants for any plant shelves.

? When ever possible I use classy wall art: framed pictures and posters, etc.

? I have also used rocking chairs, wooden rocking horses (kid?s room), pottery, and vases filled with dried plants.

? I have rented live plants for larger homes. Ten large, beautiful plants cost me $150/month. The plant company took care of the plants. This was well worth the cost. I can highly recommend this for adding to the emotional appeal of a large, empty home.

? Make certain that the curtains or window coverings are open and the windows are clean. I want the home to be bright and inviting. This helps to create a positive feeling to the home. In addition, the ?drive the neighborhood? homebuyers can see in and decide if they want to get into the home! Every potential buyer counts.

The items mentioned are just a starting point for staging. I am continually adding more items and getting rid of items which have ?aged?. So far over the years I have spent about $1,000 on staging items and now have enough items to stage two homes. I have made my investment back many, many times over.

I can highly recommend staging to both homeowners and real estate agents. Your home or home listings will sell faster and for more money.

God Bless The Refrigerator Magnet!

Ah, my very favorite promotional product of all, the refrigerator magnet. They are my favorite, because they are so extremely inexpensive, and extremely effective in getting your company name seen in countless locations.

They dont make the greatest commission for a salesman of advertising specialties, but I cant stop myself from recommending these little beauties first and foremost to my new customers and prospects. And the reason is so simple. They WORK! Ive yet to approach anyone in any kind of business where I dont feel that a refrigerator magnet will be effective advertising. Granted, some are more suited than others, but I still maintain that theyd be of use to any business.

Domino’s Pizza is notorious for giving out a magnet with deliveries that includes their logo and the phone number of the local store. I worked for Dominos when I was a young guy, as a delivery driver. Often, whenever sales would dip a little, or the manager was bucking for a prize, we would go door hanging. Boy did these door hangers produce strong results. Inexpensive marketing that had proven itself time and time again. My fellow employees and I would spend time in a slow neighborhood, hanging these on the door knobs of as many homes and apartments as we could, and the results would be immediate. Sales would shoot through the roof! If a crew went out door hanging you could count on a lot of calls coming in that evening from the area youd just targeted, for the next 3 days. The problem with these door hangers is, theyre paper, and they wind up in the trash, rather quickly.

A refrigerator magnet, almost always always winds up on the refrigerator. And there it stays, for a long, long time. What other conventional advertising stays in a home that long? A commercial, printed advertisement, a radio address, nothing stays as long as the magnet. And no matter what is put on the fridge, be it your childs neatest drawing of a hairy fire truck, or their lunch menu at school, whats on the very top? The beautiful, blessed magnet sporting YOUR company logo!

Lets say you own a heating and a/c company. You get a call from a referral, or yellow page ad. You show up, fix the problem the customer is happy with the work youve done, the price you charged, and then you or one of your service technicians leaves. Three, or four years go by, and this same customers a/c breaks down. He says to his wife, honey, what was the name of that company we used last time? Who can remember that long ago? Had the customer been left with a refrigerator magnet, had the service tech actually physically went and put it on this customers fridge the last time he was over, the number would be right there waiting for him. What if this time, hes going to need his complete a/c unit replaced? Thats one heck of a sale to miss out on.

Now most men will probably gripe at me for this one, but cest la vie. Lets say youre a florist. A young teen boy calls to get a mum for his girlfriend for homecoming or a corsage for prom or roses for Valentines-. You deliver the item(s) with a refrigerator magnet. Months roll by, and the teen girls father wakes up and realizes TODAY is his anniversary, and he didnt buy his wife a gift! Trust me; his immediate thought goes to flowers. The old faithful, the default at any time, flowers. Hes going to have them delivered to her work. He remembers the free delivery comment on the magnet of your shop, and goes right to it. He calls the number and places his order. Without the magnet, he would have called AAAAmandas Flowers in the yellow pages.

Online businesses can benefit too. Now if promoting a web site, one would immediately think to sell a promotional item that would sit by a computer, but I disagree. If you sent a magnet to an existing customer, itd wind up on his or her fridge. A friend, family member, or delivery person could see it, and inquire about the site. In addition, magnets will adhere to most automobiles. You can carry them around with you, and put them on cars, for focused advertising. I have one client that does this, hes in real estate. Often hell stop by a prospects home, and if no one answers the door, yet a car is in the driveway, he puts a magnet on the car as he leaves. Its produced positive results for him, he says. And hes gotten word of mouth advertising from those people as well. Id be willing to bet that it came from friends and family seeing the magnet on the former customers refrigerator, or toolbox, beer keg cooler, etc.

In my opinion, no business is unable to benefit from this item. So if you own a company and youre looking to advertise, consider the refrigerator magnet. Theyre inexpensive, and last a long, long time. Plus the Dominos one on your fridge is lonely, Im sure.

$1148 in One Day with Plants? HOW TO MAKE $1148 IN ONE DAY WORKING WITH PLANTS
This article is actually an example of a simple yet, excellent marketing plan. Pay close attention to how I went out and found new business at a time of the year when things are normally slow, and not only did I make $1,148.00, my friend Franky also made $1,060.00.

Because I chose to keep myself out of the rat race of landscaping new homes, I went after a market that was more of an impulsive type market. New home landscaping is almost a necessity, since new homes dont have any shrubs or grass. Not only that, many housing developments actually require people to have their landscaping done within a certain number of months from the time they move into their new homes. Therefore, when the house is done, people are anxious to get it landscaped.

Since I wasnt in that market, and most impulsive gardening decisions are made in the spring, my business typically slowed down during the very hot summer months. So one year I decided to do a little test marketing, to see if I could muster up some work during the summer.

I decided to do a test mailing to 350 homeowners in an area where I knew the people could afford landscaping services, but were not extremely rich. I mailed a letter to these 350 homes, and the letter basically said I could help them with any landscaping project that needed done, and because my business was slow during the summer I could give them a really fair price.

Of the 350 people that received the letter 3 called me. I immediately sold two jobs, and the third job was still open for discussion. On one of the first two jobs I made about $350. and on the other I made about $700. Thats net profit. Thats how much I got to keep. Since the mailing cost less than $175., my immediate profit on the mailing was $875. Not bad at all considering this was only a part-time business for me. But dont forget about that third caller. I had not even met this person yet.

The reason he called is because he happened to own a 60 unit apartment building in the Cleveland area, and he needed some trees or shrubs planted around the parking lot. The architect that he had been working with suggested Taxus Hicksi, which is an evergreen that is easily trimmed and maintained to a certain size. However, all the
landscapers he had spoken with in Cleveland wanted about $44.00 each to install these plants. Although a fair price, that amounted to $4,664.00 because he needed 106 plants.

He contacted me because he was hoping I could find a less expensive plant to use. After visiting the job site I realized that Taxus Hicksi actually was about the best choice for this situation, so I told him I would see if I could get a better price on the plants. I showed in a wholesale catalog that the wholesale price was $22.00 per plant, but mentioned that I might be able to find another source.

I knew that my friend Franky did at one time grow this particular plant, so I gave him a call. Turns out he did have 106 plants available, and was anxious to move some of them, he quoted me $10.00 each, balled in burlap. I called my customer and told him that I found good plants at a lower price, and that I could actually deliver and plant them for $22.00 per plant, which is exactly half of what others had quoted him. He was delighted, and I did the job. As a matter of fact he actually asked me to install some additional plants while I was there.

I hired 3 guys to help me do the job, and we had it done in one day. After I paid for the plants, and paid my help, I actually made $1,148.00 on that one day job. My customer was so happy with the work we did that he asked me to come back the following week and do about another $700.00 worth of work. I made another $350.00 The following spring he hired me to re-landscape an older home that he had purchased, and I made another $600.00.

Remember the $175.00 that I spent to mail those 350 letters? The net profit on that mailing turned out to be about $2,973.00!!! And my friend Franky picked up $1,060.00 for the plants I bought from him. Were these 350 people I selected special? No they werent. Every town in America has at least 350 people just like them, probably thousands more.

There are many different ways to make money with plants, this is just one of them, I can show you plenty more. Ive been making money with plants for over 25 years.

Tips for Metal Detecting

A pulsing current is applied to the coil, which then induces a magnetic
field shown in blue. When the magnetic field of the coil moves across
metal, such as the coin in this illustration, the field induces electric
currents (called eddy currents) in the coin. The eddy currents induce
their own magnetic field, shown in red, which generates an opposite
current in the coil, which induces a signal indicating the presence of
metal. As you can probably tell metal detectors are very useful not only to
find that cherished earring but for our everyday safety and well being.
This is a great invention that will be here for years to come.

The metal detectors in airports, office buildings and prisons for example
help ensure that no one is bringing a weapon onto the property.
Consumer oriented metal detectors provide entertainment to people and
give chance in discovering hidden treasures. Metal detectors work on the
principal of electromagnetism and their effects on conductive metals. The
high-powered coil of metal, called the transmitter, uses the battery power
to generate a penetrating magnetic field. As the electromagnetic field
enters the ground, anything metallic will become charged with
magnetism.

Tips for Metal Detecting

Buying a metal detector is just the first step in a persons’ quest to look
for old coins and jewelry. Before going on that expedition, here are a few
tips worth knowing that will help make the search successful.

1. People who don’t know how to use a metal detector should learn from
those who know how to use it. This will make it easier for the user to
know when there is something worth digging or just ignoring and
continue on with the search.

2. Before going out, the metal detector should be checked to make sure
it is functioning properly. The best way would be to hide a coin in the
garage and have the individual successfully find it; this will increase the
chances of finding other artifacts during the treasure hunt.

3. Another thing that has to be checked is the weather. Tests have
shown that looking for objects when it is snowing or raining outside is
useless because these interfere with the instruments on the metal
detector. This means the person will have to wait until the conditions
outside improve or reschedule the search when it is sunny.

Youve got to buy a metal detector that could withstand normal wear and
tear longer than its competitors. The longer the metal detector can serve
you, the better your return on investment will be. You know all the shops
full of junk that you always pass by everyday ? Many times, people rent
booths in the store to get rid of items that have truly been in attics from
god knows when. Also, think about all the old relic hunters that pass
away.

Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a
great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts
with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector
should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting
at detect-metal.info.

A good way to view the purchase is to decide how much money you are
comfortable spending. It is our view that you measure this purchase
against other purchases you have made. The large coil can be found in
the search coil of the detector while the small coil is found on the System
Control Pack. The coils are connected to an oscillator which produces
pulses of current. The pulse passes through the coils in order to generate
radio waves.

Mention the words metal detector and you’ll get completely different
reactions from different people. For instance, some people think of
combing a beach in search of coins or buried treasure.

4. Proper clothing is important during a treasure hunt. The proper outfit
can keep the individual warm and/or cool and free from insect bites.

5. Most treasure hunts take hours before anything is found. It would be a
good idea to take a tent for the person to rest in and some water along
because dehydration often causes those in the group to call off the
search.

6. Metal detectors run on batteries. Since these will wear out in a few
hours, it would be a good idea to carry spares so the person can continue
looking for treasure.

7. The treasure hunter should research the designated area before going
in. This will save the individual time and energy, which can be put to
better use looking in the right place.

One of the things that the person should determine is if the area where
the search will be conducted requires a permit. Some places require
documentation and it is advisable to get it beforehand so there won’t be
any problems when something has been found. Treasure hunting can be
fun. By following these steps, the individual will have a great time
searching for an artifact and making some money from it.

Find the best gold metal detector today and start treasure hunting! A
recent study proves that hand-held metal detectors are just as accurate
as x-rays in finding coins and other metallic objects swallowed by children.
It is responsible for receiving frequencies that bounce back from the
object that the coil detects. This type of detector is best for identifying
different types of metals.

It does, however, have its own downsides. Some say that the knobs of
the Pro XL are quite loose and when adjusting it, you have to be careful
not to hit it with your arms. It is quite sensitive and bumping it may
require you to start or reset the adjustments. Some users put a rubber
band around the knobs to keep them from moving or becoming loose.
Prices of used metal detectors vary from $275 to $700 for all-purpose
metal detectors. Underwater metal detectors can cost around $500.

Variations Of Conservatory Sunroom

Victorian. Gazebo. Georgian and Edwardian are some of the conservatory sunroom styles. You can select from a range of wood types to build your sunroom including oak. maple. cedar. mahogany. and fir. They provide maximum insulation thereby increasing energy efficiency. The glass room controls the air temperature inside even during extreme climatic conditions. These patio room enclosures are best suited for regions with a breathtaking view by allowing maximum space for viewing the landscape. The English-Style conservatories are well known for their classic design and elegant look and feel. You can select from a range of decorative Victorian sunroom conservatories to the magnificent Georgian structures.

Features of Sunroom Conservatories

The conservatories have their respective architectural plan. They are provided with beautiful windows of various frames. You can also select from a range of stained glass to add a personalized touch to the conservatory. The doors and windows can be provided with multipoint lock facility for added security. Instead of the glass if you use polycarbonate multi-ply for the roof. you will get increased insulation. They only allow the soft light to diffuse inside the room. The walls have multiple chambers and the PVC used to make the walls of the sunroom is reinforced with metals to provide more strength to the structure. This feature also makes the conservatories more durable. You can derive greater ventilation by placing the turn and tilt windows. In times of unruly weather conditions. these windows can be tilted in such an angle that they provide the necessary ventilation with allowing the adverse weather to affect indoor atmosphere. They can also be opened to 90? angle. giving you unrestricted view of outside environment.

Conservatory Design and Style

The conservatories can be placed according to a number of designs and styles. Some of the common styles and designs include Victorian conservatory. Georgian conservatory. Edwardian conservatory. Mediterranean conservatory and Pavilion conservatory. The Victorian models sometimes have aluminum exterior and interior finish. They are provided with interlocked window and door sashes with thermally broken panels. You can select a number of systems for your doors and windows from fixed to dual. removable screens to sliding ones. child secured handles to double locking. In place of aluminum. you can also have wood interiors. They can have aluminum exteriors with laminated wooden beams and thermally broken panels. The windows can have various attachments including double security lock. awnings. grills. and casement windows. You can place French doors or even single swing and sliding doors. You can even have the Victorian conservatories clad with vinyl. They have low maintenance cost and the construction is energy efficient. They are available with the French swing doors or the sliding doors with glazed roof panels. The Double Victorian style is a hybrid variation with Victorian arcs and Edwardian columns.

The Edwardian conservatories are usually built with a corner facet of 45?. They have a typical vaulted ceiling that is often made up of stained glass. They usually run parallel to the house and are best suited for conventional houses. The Georgian conservatory provides you with spacious rooms made of glass that are economical and are energy efficient. They are provided with insulated roofing and thermally broken panels with interlocked window and door sashes. They have quad doors or swinging French doors with removable screens and have child proof door knobs with double locking system.

Extending The Room With Conservatories

You rooms can be extended to form the conservatory patio rooms. porches. full glass rooms and the three or four season sunrooms. The patios allow the fresh air to enter and restrict insects and unwanted intruder from entering inside. But most of the time. using this room is done only in summer or when the chill is not there in the air. You can build the sunroom on an existing structure or just convert a room into a sunroom depending on your necessity. Some of the conservatory sunrooms make use of the heating and cooling system to the house to regulate the room temperature of the glass enclosed area. If this facility is not provided. you can easily install the system in the conservatory. The conservatories facing the North require fewer blinds as they are the coldest. On the contrary. the South facing ones are really warm and require constant ventilation in the form of open windows. vents on roofs and tinted roof. The West facing conservatories gets the benefit of the evening light of the sun while the East facing one gets the morning sun and is best suited as a breakfast room. The conservatories sure add charm to family relationships by bringing all the family members together in the morning and in the evening. to share the outdoor environment and enjoy the beauty of surrounding landscape. If well planned. they become the ideal place to relax and indulge in your favorite pastime.

Learn French Online and Educate Yourself before the Next Generation Catches You Up!

Ever wished to visit France? Walk through the Champs Elysees? Climb upon the Eiffel Tower? To sail on the Seine? Did you really think to realize that without knowing a scratch of the French language. Come on. Stop kidding me!

Everywhere around the world people speak different languages but it seems that we are a little bit behind that kind of technology. Doesn’t that makes you wonder? We should prepare ourselves to get educated. We always send our children to the best schools to master a lot of things like French language but do you even know a little bit about it?

This is just a sneak-peak of where you should start.

Greetings: Monsieur Dupont meets Madame La Baronne.

Monsieur Dupont: Bonjour Madame! (Hello Madam!)

Madame La Baronne: Bonjour, Monsieur Dupont! (Hello, Mister Dupont!)

Monsieur Dupont: Comment allez vous? (How are you?)

Madame La Baronne: Tr?s bien, merci. Et vous? (Fine, Thanks. And you?)

Monsieur Dupont: Je vais bien, merci. (I’m well, Thanks.)

Well is it that hard? No, you see! We really need to get started to be educated before to try to educate others.

This is my 3-T Formula to learn French and much more: Tools, Tips and Techniques!

* Learn a lot and master what you’ve learned.

* Take action by listening, reading and writing what you’ve learned.

* Rehearse it with your partner by using all of your knowledge.

* And be patience to understand and to make understand.

A lot of people think that by hanging some name cards on door knobs they are going to learn French but it isn’t that easy. Believe me. Personally I speak fluently four languages and that all with confidence.

I learned two of them at home because my mother spoke Dutch and my father French. I learned English by watching American television for a couple of years with French and Dutch subtitles. And the last year I’ve just learned to speak Arabic by living and working in Egypt.

So now you see that this is the proof that your brain is unconsciously working while you’re wasting your time like a lazy … in your sofa watching TV, or listening to your parents or just living in another culture with another language.

Thus this will be your lethal weapon to learn French and other languages because your brain is really unconsciously working.

So now you know all that you just need to take the right steps to advance and become a real educated citizen in this wide wide globe of multi-lingual cultures.

Toilets: A Better Approach to the Conservation of Water

Being green is one of those things we read about in magazines or see on TV, but we rarely take the time to incorporate something like better conservation of water resources into our own lives. With an abundance of advertising for eco-friendly low-flow toilets, dual-flush toilets, or composting toilets, we’re left to wonder what it all means anyway. You might recycle, plant a garden, or buy earth-friendly products, and, while this is helpful, there are more measures you can take to help the environment that have double or even triple the impact. Planning for DIY

What ever job or project you are getting ready to do around the home, however big or small, it really pays to remember that planning is everything. Do your research, make notes, take measurements, stand back and ponder. Never ever rush in before you are sure what you are doing.

This has always been my failing when it comes to home improvements - I’m far to eager to get started and it has cost me my pride in the past. Not just in shelves that are wonky, floors that are uneven, or damaged carpets, windows or walls either.

Doors

Most houses have several different kinds of doors, either exterior or interior models. These two types are differentiated by their construction, weather-tightness, weight and related factors which determines whether they can survive exposure to the elements.

Typical weather-tight exterior doors include the front entry door, back door, French doors, glass sliders and patio doors. Lighter-weight interior doors are used in rooms.

The function of a door is determined by its construction, appearance and operation. Doors which are made for security have very solid, durable construction and highly effective hardware. Doors are also distinguished by their action. Most swing on hinges, while some slide along tracks or fold and unfold. The choice of a door and its design for both internal and external use is fundamental in deciding the redesigning some of the decor.

Many things need to be taken into consideration while choosing doors. There are many options available to you and it can be a tedious task to know where to start.

Current trends indicate that PVCU is the most popular material for making external doors and composite doors. Older properties still rely on the traditional wooden doors. Composite doors can be made more expensive by assorting them in a range of finishes and can look good anywhere.

Doors come in a set of standard sizes. Their main parameters for width are 24, 28, 30, 32, 34 or 36; for height are 78, 80 or 82, and for thickness are 13/8, 13/4 and 2. All figures are in inches. Normally, wooden doors are paneled, hollowed or glazed.

Security is a major issue for doors. For that it must be always checked that it has been built to a specific guidelines. It is also important to check and recheck the locking mechanisms on doors.

There are many types of doors available. Mezzanine doors ensure safety and efficiency for workers operating in offices. Blast-resistant doors withstand blast pressures up to 100 pounds per square foot. Roof hatches are special types of doors designed with multiple leaves and can be custom manufactured for any sized opening.

Garage Doors provides detailed information on Doors, Garage Doors, Dog Doors, Garage Door Openers and more. Garage Doors is affiliated with Door Knob Hangers.

Are Custome Made Faucets Right For You?

Everything is custom-made now, even faucets and taps

From the early days of indoor plumbing up until about 30 years ago, the kind of faucets and taps you had in your home didn’t matter much. You used whatever came with the house. There were usually two different knobs, one for hot and one for cold, and sometimes even two separate faucets.

The last thing anyone cared about was what “style” they were. But times change. As homes became more custom-built and society grew more image-conscious, a whole new market opened up: designer taps and faucets, made to suit the homeowner’s personal tastes. Now there are literally hundreds of styles, all functioning essentially the same way but adding aesthetic appeal to the kitchen or bathroom.

The bathroom is where homeowners have done the most with designer taps, maybe because guests are more likely to use this room than the kitchen, and maybe to help bring elegance to a room whose uses are less than appealing. Matching bathtub and sink faucets are common. Taps are usually made of steel, with finishes such as chrome, nickel and brass available.

The best place to see the various faucets available is at a home improvement center. These stores usually have numerous styles on display, allowing you to see and touch and determine what will go best with the decor in your home. Styles such as “Victorian” or “modern” help guide you; Victorian taps in a distinctly modern bathroom might look odd.

Most of the major brands offer lifetime guarantees on their taps, assuring you’ll get years of good use out of them. It’s rare that a homeowner changes faucets more than once, unless there’s a complete overhaul of the home’s interior design. For the most part, once you choose a style, it’s part of the house for as long as you are. Choose something you like and let it enhance the beauty of your home.

Empowering parents to help children with autism and special needs learn through play

SenseToys specialises in providing a carefully selected range of toys and activities to help parents and professionals caring for children with poor or delayed language skills, autism related difficulties, impaired hearing, developmental delays, dyspraxia and physical disabilities.

As a parent, the early stages of learning about and coming to terms with even the mildest of special needs are extremely difficult and stressful times. One of the greatest frustrations is identifying practical ways to help your child - whilst climbing a very steep learning curve in terms of understanding the problem, including learning about whole new areas of health and education provision which most parents never encounter, there is the overwhelming desire to want to be able to do something practical.

Time is of the essence - early intervention for children with special needs can make a significant difference to the child, and indeed to the family and all concerned. Thus helping parents and carers find and understand what they need can be a real benefit - even when some of the toys are readily available it is often difficult for the non-specialist to know why a particular toy or feature might be helpful. For example the typical “inset” style farmyard puzzle can be extremely difficult for some children, particularly the youngest, to use and develop their fine motor skills, and so simply selecting puzzles with larger knobs enables them to make progress. Sadly most parents like ourselves just don’t find these things out until much later, so with the right information and product selection we (SenseToys) should be able to make this advice more readily available.

I set up SenseToys to help people like me find and choose which toys we need, understand how to use them, and why they work - practical information and advice for parents and carers, especially for those learning about and coping with special needs for the first time, based on first hand experience.

SenseToys helps you to make learning fun and rewarding for children with learning difficulties - sometimes even “ordinary” toys can help you produce extraordinary results if you can find them and know how to use them effectively! Visit our website: www.sensetoys.com.

About the Author

A Guide To Choosing The Right Closet

Closets are important fixtures in the house. Aside from containing and providing protection for clothes, toys, and food, the closet contributes significantly to the room’s ambience and design.

Before placing an order for a closet, here are some things that you need to consider.

* Size

The size of the closet depends on the size of the space in which the furniture will be placed. After considering the amount of space, also think about the amount of items that you will be placing inside the closet.

It is suggested that you place similar items in one closet than having several closets than contain the same items. This will provide ease in organizing the contents and in looking for things stored in the closet.

* Materials

While most closets are made of wood, the most important thing that you need to consider is the sturdiness of the materials used. Closets are almost permanent fixtures in the house. These cannot be easily replaced without going to a lot of trouble with the construction.

So make sure that the materials used can stand thru time until you decide to have the house renovated. Make sure that the wood has been pretreated to prevent mold and insect growth.

Also, make sure that the materials are suitable for what you intend to store in the closet. Some closets may not be good for storing food, so ask first before buying a closet or ordering one.

You can also purchase a closet in three ways. You can buy stock closets, which are ready-made that you can take it home on the same day. This is cheaper, however this provides you with little options.

You can order semi-custom closets. This would mean that the maker can give you samples of designs, parts and accessories, and you can select your own combinations.

Custom closets are the most expensive. If you choose a custom closet, you can specify the size and shape (for irregularly-shaped spaces) and design of your closet that you would like to order.

Also consider the drawer slides. These are rated according to load capacity as light, medium or heavy. It is better to choose slides that have full extension capability so can access the full depth of the drawers.

* Contents

Consider the amount of contents that will be stored in the closet. It will be better that you have a single closet for similar items for ease of storage and finding what you need.

Also, think about what type of items will be stored. Will you need additional drawers, attachments and racks for your closet? Make sure that you inform or ask the maker about this so he can give you suggestions and more information.

* Design

If you will be placing an order for a customized closet, you can choose exactly what you would like it to look like. Here are some considerations.

Finish - Apart from considering the latest trend, ask what will look good with your home. For a traditional style, brushed finishes, polished

nickel, pewter or brass will look great in your home’s interiors. For contemporary style, enameled and gloss-metal shine will match your home’s style.

Knobs and pulls - Knobs and pulls are mounted on drawers and doors to facilitate opening. Knobs are attached with a single bolt and screw and require less space than pulls, which are attached by two screws. Both can be combined with a backplate or can be used alone.

These are available in a variety of designs, colors and finish including sterling, antique or polished brass, aged bronze, iron, nickel, polished chrome, ceramics and antique copper.

Backplates - Backplates are placed on the knob or pull and the drawer or door surface. These are used to cover existing holes on the surface (usually when changing knobs or pulls), to protect the surface (during construction or when the knob is pulled) and to improve the design of the hardware.

* Budget

Ready-made closet are always the cheapest but make sure that these will fit your allotted space in your room. If you will be able to stretch your budget, it is still best to get a semi-custom or customized closet so you can specify the size and the design.

You can always check online for different offers on stock, semi-custom and custom closets. Surely, you can get one that will match your storage and decorating needs.

Seeds

SEEDS

In the real estate business, there is a concept called
“farming.”

An agent will pick a neighborhood as his farm and work
the farm in various ways. Sometimes hell start by mailing
out an announcement to each resident to make them
aware of his services, his location, and contact information
(plowing up the fields).

Then he may conduct a “doorknob hanger” program where
he hires people to place flyers right on the doorknobs,
reiterating the information he already mailed out (planting
the first crop of seeds).

The agents next step might be to offer to do free appraisals
via still another flyer, this one sent through the mail again
(watering the first crop).

Now he may decide to do another doorknob flyer, again
reiterating the free appraisal offer sent out by mail (cultivating).

Then he does another mailing to each resident, offering a
free sales prep analysis to go in and personally point out
things that can be done to profitably prepare the home for
the market (fertilizing).

Then the agent personally drives through his “farm,” making
notes of any obvious home improvements that need to be done,
along with the addresses of those properties.

Back at the office, he then writes personal letters to each of
the addresses where obvious improvements are needed,
if they havent already responded to his recent mailing (weeding).

He keeps on tending his farm, planting, watering, cultivating,
fertilizing, and weeding, rain or shine. In other words, he keeps
his name and services foremost in his prospects minds, so
that when one of them does think of selling, guess who they
are most likely to call?

Keep in mind that this “farmer” started from scratch. He first
picked out his farm. Then he had to do the “back-breaking”
work of plowing it up and planting the seeds of all the crops
he wished to harvest. Getting everything started (setting
everything up) was the hardest part, like everything else in life.

Once he got a rhythm going, all he did was to water, cultivate,
fertilize, and weed on a regular schedule. And he got a good
harvest. But note that he didnt plant his seeds one day and
expect that harvest the next. He realized that it would take a
minimum of ninety days, depending on the crop he planted.
The more bountiful crops take more time.

He also realized that he could start as many farms as he had
time to tend, or as he could hire others to tend (in which case
he would share-crop), so that his potential harvests matched
his efforts.

As the Bible so clearly points out, there is a time and a season
to everything . . . a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that
which is planted . . . Ecclesiastes 3:2-8

Once again, another success lesson from the Lord Himself!

Christmas Shopping and Men Don’t Mix

I’ll be blunt. Most men detest shopping. Unless they are searching for some sort of power tool for themselves.

Only this morning, my other half breezed enthusiastically into our home office brandishing his latest gadget-like purchase. At the time, I was sitting gazing at a blank PC screen searching for inspiration, which arrived instantly in the form of a Bosch Router.

“Look at this!” he enthused, as he waved this heavy metal object menacingly above my head. “Remember me telling you about how I wanted an edging tool, so that I could get a nice profile on the borders of furniture, like this desk for example?” he said, running his middle finger across the perimeter of his recent creation and then swiftly removing it when the razor-sharp edge sliced through his flesh.

“Well, now that I’ve got this, I can do that”, he gushed, as I ducked to avoid this now identified flying object swooping precariously past my cranium, whilst he gave a charades’ type demonstration of the action that one would employ when using such a contraption.

Mention the words B&Q, Do-It-All, Homebase and, above all, power tools and his face lights up like a Halloween pumpkin. Mention any other type of shopping, for anyone other than himself, and his features contort into an expression on a par with someone who’s just stepped, barefooted, into a pile of dog excrement.

Naturally, from a man’s point of view, Christmas is the worst time of year to engage in the tedious pastime of shopping, not just for one person, but for a miscellaneous assortment of friends and relatives, some of whom you only hear from once a year via a brown paper package containing a home knitted garment.

This loosely-woven hand knit is generally a ferret-coloured sweater that would fit a cross between an anorexic chicken and monkey, sent with much love from someone with a name like Auntie Ivy, who always has stale, tea breath, who wears rancid, Eau-de-Skunk perfume and whose Orang-utan lipstick overflows the outline of her lips and invades the rest of her face in a haphazard pattern. Oh, and she always seems to forget that you’ve matured somewhat, mentally and physically, since you were a mere six years old.

As far as men are concerned, Christmas shopping is best left until an hour before closing time on Christmas Eve. This is the “panic and buy anything for the sake of having to” hour and trying to secure the best of what is remaining on the spartan shelves.

The tacky choice generally includes a cellophane wrapped set of Lavender fragranced talc and bath cubes, a pair of musical Santa socks, a reduced price window candle arch, with two faulty bulbs and a Popular Christmas Songs album, by some obscure artist sporting a coat hanger grin, Grecian 2000 hair and a diamond-patterned pullover.

The only time that my partner enjoys the shopping experience as a couple, is when we visit select underwear stores, allowing him to sidle off and rifle lustfully through the transparent lingerie and waggle his fingers through the gap in crotchless panties. When shopping as an attached man, he can conduct himself in this manner without question. Unaccompanied, he would give the impression of either being a pervert or of harbouring a secret fetish for cross-dressing.

Last week, accompanied by our two-year-old daughter, we visited a shopping mall in Bristol to “tentatively” search for some Christmas gifts. Led by my “likes to be in control” partner, we skirted past 101 women’s clothes’ shops before I barely had time to drool longingly through the window at some over-priced, flirtatious little number, as it hung perfectly from some unbelievably stick-like, plastic dummy. And no, I don’t mean Pamela Anderson.

Suddenly, without prior warning, my beloved quickened his pace to the equivalent of having had a large stick of dynamite lodged up his behind, before veering sharply to the right and cutting across the paths of innocent pedestrians. He must have assumed that I was following, since not once did he glance over his shoulder to check that I was trotting dutifully behind.

Darting in and out of a bustling crowd of people, who all seem to be travelling at right angles to you, is not so much of a problem when you are not weighed down by any sort of baggage. However, when you have a mind-of-its-own pushchair and a large, golfing umbrella that has a habit of piercing unsuspecting victims in the nether regions, life becomes a tad more difficult.

After playing skittles with the pushchair and mobile human targets and ruining a nice young man’s reproductive capacity with my umbrella spike, I spotted my eager sidekick disappearing into a store that had “The Gadget Shop” emblazoned across the entrance.

Typical.

He spent more time in this store excitedly twiddling with knobs (imagining they were nipples, no doubt) and pushing various buttons, than we did in total looking around the entire mall. After declaring, “I’ve got to get one of these” at least ten times, he announced, “Well, that’s about it then. Not really much else here is there?”

“So aren’t we actually going to do any Christmas shopping today then?” I enquired.

“No, I think I’ll take a day off work in December”, he said.

“When, exactly?” I asked.

“Oh, probably Christmas Eve”, he replied……..

How Much Should You Spend To Get Your Home Ready To Sell?

When you get ready to sell your home, it’s important to make it sparkle, especially when compared to your neighbors’ houses. Every real estate agent knows that well-polished houses not only sell faster, but they also sell for higher prices.

When planning the “spruce up” strategy for your home, you’ll first want to consider how much you want to spend, and then how much of that money to allocate to the outside and the inside in order to help sell your home the most quickly and for the best price.

How much should you spend? The answer is simple: as little as possible. The idea is to make your home shine by addressing areas that will make a good impression on buyers, without spending money you won’t be able to recoup at sale time. Generally, that means a serious clean-up, inside and out. Then, depending upon your budget, you can make relatively inexpensive (but often dramatic) upgrades, such as paint, new knobs for kitchen cabinets, or new towel racks in the bathroom.

On the outside, make sure your home looks nice from the street, since that’s the first impression every buyer will have. Keep the lawn mowed and the sidewalks edged. That’s important, and doesn’t cost anything extra, since you’d be doing that whether your home was for sale or not. Plant a few annual flowers along the walkway and around the house. They’ll add a touch of hominess and color, and make a good impression on buyers.

Keep flower gardens and shrubbery well-maintained, and make sure the front door is nicely painted and opens easily without creaking. If the paint is peeling on the outside of your home, especially the windows and doors, it’s time to repaint with a color that attracts your buyer’s profile.

If there are shingles missing, they should be replaced, but don’t put on a new roof unless it’s absolutely necessary; you’ll rarely recoup such a major expense. If the driveway is covered with oil stains, there are some good products that can remove them without a great deal of cost.

Inside, go through each room, doing a thorough cleaning and removing clutter. Have a friend walk through with you, telling you what catches their eye, because you may have grown accustomed to things that will create a negative impression in the minds of prospective buyers. If rooms need paint, repaint them, using colors that you know your buyers will love.

Pay special attention to bathrooms and the kitchen. If the floor looks old and worn in the kitchen, new linoleum tiles are easy to install and can instantly give old kitchens new sparkle. Repair or replace any dripping faucets–another relatively inexpensive repair that can pay big dividends.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get your home ready to sell, but you do want to make it as attractive as you can (without spending a lot) if you want to sell it quickly–and at the highest possible price.

Tennis Shoes: A Buyer?s Guide

While the term ?tennis shoes? is commonly used in reference to athletic shoes of any type, you should not wear running shoes, walking shoes, or cross-trainers when playing tennis. These types of shoes do not provide the correct support and can increase the risk of foot and ankle injuries. In addition, such shoes can also damage the tennis court surface.

There are several criteria tennis players should consider when selecting tennis shoes. First, the court surface you primarily play on will dictate the type of tennis shoe you need. Second, the characteristics of your feet and body will determine what type of tennis shoe is most comfortable and effective. Finally, as with any type of shoe, different people value certain shoe attributes and qualities more than others.

Tennis players that play on hard court surfaces should choose tennis shoes that are durable and resistant to wear. Repeated play on hard (i.e. concrete) courts will wear the tread off the soles of tennis shoes. Loss of tread leads to loss of traction and increased slipping. In addition, the part of the tennis shoe that covers the big toes should have extra protection on the outside. Tennis players often drag their toe while executing shots, especially the serve. It is crucial for right-handed players that the inside toe area of their right tennis shoe have extra protection to prevent premature wear. This area of the tennis shoe is particularly vulnerable because most right-handed players drag their right foot when serving, and often when executing forehand groundstrokes.

Tennis players that play primarily on soft court surfaces (i.e. clay) should select tennis shoes that are comfortable and provide good traction. Durability is less of a concern. It is also vital that the tennis shoe have a smooth, flat sole. The knobs and bumps found on the soles of running shoes and cross-trainers can damage clay court surfaces. In fact, most clay court facilities do not allow players to wear such shoes, instead requiring appropriate tennis shoes.

Feet and body characteristics are an important consideration when selecting tennis shoes. People who are prone to blisters must wear tennis shoes that fit properly and are well cushioned. Advances in tennis shoe technology have created cushioning systems that are lighter, more comfortable, and better at removing moisture. Body type is also an important consideration in tennis shoe selection. For example, larger and heavier players may prefer heavier shoes that provide extra support.

Finally, as with all types of shoes, personal preference and taste often determines what type of tennis shoe a person purchases. Many players desire a tennis shoe with a certain look or color scheme. On a more functional level, some players may select lightweight tennis shoes in an effort to enhance foot speed and agility.

After you determine the type of tennis shoe is right for you, it is important to select a shoe that fits properly. Because tennis involves a lot of sprinting, cutting, stopping, and starting, you should select a tennis shoe that fits snugly across the width of the foot. You should, however, make sure that your tennis shoes have at least a half-inch of space between the toes and the end of the tennis shoe.

Give That Door The Right Knob

As the saying goes ?Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are?. This also holds true by looking at our things and the stuff that we are using daily. In decorating a new home or renovating an existing one, one cannot deny the excitement of choosing or remodeling furniture especially a cabinet, a drawer or a door. For some it is a lot like shopping, finding the right combination and accents for the accessories to match the main theme of the pad.

The main accessories for a cabinet, drawer or door are the knobs. Presently, knobs come in different forms, functions and sizes to match every imaginable furniture design. But the main purpose of the knob is its function. Before laying an eye on that intricate designed knob in your specialty hardware store, you must first identify the function of the furniture. Look into the functions of your furniture first and asses if the knobs you had in mind can sustain through the future wear and tear. Here are some types of knobs that can help you in your quest:

The conventional knobs:

? Brass knobs. These types of knobs are typically used for Victorian inspired furniture and doors. They are good for light to medium load usage.

? Aluminum knobs. These are a good accent for those chrome / steel themed drawers and cabinets. This material is good for the kitchen or the bathroom since aluminum does not rust.

? Plastic knobs. These are typically brightly colored knobs that come with hundreds of designs to choose from, may it be animal shaped or in alphabet letters. These types of knobs are practically applicable to all furniture in the house since plastic will not rust and can easily be wiped with a piece of damp cloth.

? Wooden knobs. These are knobs that are best used in the office, bedroom or study room. Avoid using this on areas of the house that is constantly wet or damp such as the bathroom or the kitchen.

? Crystal or Glass knobs. This is a new member in the family of knobs. Recently the prices of blown molded glass has substantially dropped due to modernization in the craft of glass making, hence making way to very affordable glass knobs. These types of knobs present a delicate and elegant look on your furniture or bathroom door. These types of knobs also compliment the Victorian inspired furniture. But be warned that the function of the furniture using this should only be carrying light loads to prevent the knob from breaking due to strain.

The Top 10 Countdown to a Flu-less Holiday

Copyright 2005 Linda Slater Dowling

We have now officially entered what at least one holiday carol calls “The most wonderful time of the year.” Indeed, it’s the season to be jolly, the season of giving and sharing … and it’s the season when the flu likes to rear its ugly head.

But just because flu season is here doesn’t mean you have to be one of the 20 percent of the U.S. population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who gets the flu each year.

There are many natural methods you can use to help prevent the flu (and treat it if you do come down with a case). Here are some you can try today to keep the flu at bay for a healthy holiday.

1. Get enough sleep. Remember the saying “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”? These are words of wisdom to live by, as your body is able to repair and recuperate while you sleep. Skimp on this important necessity and you’ll be less able to fight off the flu and other illnesses.

2. Let go of stress. The holidays bring fun and festivities to many, but they also bring more demands: holiday shopping, cooking and baking, social gatherings and houseguests. It’s essential to find an outlet for your stress (think long walks in nature or cozying up under a blanket with a good book), because stress is a major contributor to all disease … including the flu.

3. Wash your hands. This one sounds obvious, but think about how many times during a day you touch public objects (paper money, door knobs, computer keyboards), then touch your face, your eyes or eat lunch. This gives germs and bacteria easy access to your body. It’s especially important to let children know the importance of washing their hands as well.

4. Think twice before getting a flu vaccine. For some, a flu vaccine may be warranted, and many government agencies recommend them. However, there are others who believe flu vaccines are often unnecessary and may do more harm than good. Says Rima E. Laibow, MD, medical director of Natural Solutions Foundation, of the FluMist vaccine, “FluMist is a live virus vaccine which introduces between 10 and 100 million viruses into the nose … FluMist is based on last year’s viruses which were not effective against last year’s viruses … once treated with FluMist, people shed live, infective viruses for up to 3 weeks, which can give people flu.”

5. Eat healthy. This includes fortifying your diet with immune-enhancing foods like leafy greens, raw garlic and mushrooms (especially shiitake, maitake and reishi), drinking plenty of pure water and cutting back on junk food.

6. Consider taking vitamin C. “Under stress (like a viral infection), your need for vitamin C is increased,” says Laibow.

7. Cut back on sweets. Sugar weakens your immune system, which is your primary defense against the flu.

8. Gargle. If you notice a sore throat coming on, gargling with some diluted hydrogen peroxide or tea tree oil (mixed with water) can help.

9. Stick with your exercise routine. Regular exercise is an excellent way to keep your immune system strong … and thereby reduce your chances of getting the flu.

10. Ease up on alcohol. Though holiday toasts may be plentiful, keeping your alcohol intake to a minimum is important for feeling your best. Alcohol weakens immune function, so the more you drink, the more vulnerable you become to the flu and other illnesses.

Best wishes for a flu-free and healthy season!

The Doors come in a variety of different styles, in

Portable Cooling Guide: Maintaining your Portable Air Conditioner

When you need supplemental cooling or you cannot install traditional air conditioners because of impracticality or cost, a portable air conditioner is a great solution.  Portable air conditioners can be moved from room to room. They do not require permanent installation. All you need to do to make sure the portable air conditioner works properly is vent it through a window or wall.

The maintenance on portable air conditioners is almost as easy as the set up and operation. Of course, to operate a portable air condit

Future Impact Of Nanotechnology

Introduction

Nanotechnology can be defined in a number of ways; it is a vast and fresh emerging topic for the world. It is an arrangement and systematisation on the scale of 100 nm and less. Scientific fraternity does not consider it a science but a multi-scientific, while industrial sectors rate the technology as multi industries.

Human creativity can be communicated through its jumbo platform, which includes the command of comprehension and operating atomic and molecular substance and communications as mandatory for the optimisation of present products and the making of new ones. Perhaps that is why it is called an ideal scientific storm in place where all natural sciences come together and meet one another at the nanoscale. Nanotechnology incorporates many applications of different industries like health care, medicine, security, electronics, communications and computing.

While discussing nanotechnology, we should better understand the broad difference between science and technology. A novice technician may be misled by the term and holds the nanotechnology to be a technology manufacturing operative tools made-up and functioning on the scale of nanometers like molecular machines and molecular electronic tools. The technology is also regarded by some as a fresh but rising region of research, which slowly and gradually, will tell us more about itself clearly.

Top-down and Bottom-up

Two basically diverse methods assert the Nanotechnology: ‘top-down’ and ‘bottom-up’. ‘Top-down’ uses machining, templating and lithographic methods to produce nanoscale structures, but bottom-up, or molecular nanotechnology, uses to develop organic substances into decided structures, atom-by-atom or molecule - by - molecule, often by self-assembly or self - organisation. It is understandable that for the delivery and function of this new science and technology, both tactics are expected to be essential. Several areas of nanotechnology have been taken over by chemists; these fields incorporate the synthesis of inorganic, organic and hybrid nano-materials to apply in nano-tools, the enhancement of novel nano-analytical methods, and the management of biological molecules like DNA and the growth of molecular devices. The management of nanodimensional substance and/or the self-assembly of molecules into well-built compositions are managed by a large portion of chemistry.

Nanoscience has already been put into practice by polymer chemists and those concerned with liquid crystals and the strong fields of supramolecular chemistry imposes straight on nanoscience and technology. If good communication of potential pluses assures extensive help, the forthcoming uses of nanotechnology can be countless and wide-ranging. However, we must consider that the promises offered by nanotechnology are both positive and genuine. If we want to convey the truth of scientific development and distinguish between science and science fiction, our puffed up assertions for the nanotechnology will not help us. We must not forget that the positive results of the nanotechnology may come after years and the technological challenges we are coping with cannot be worked out merely minimising the physical scope of present materials. Media fear that this new technology triggers a new unexplored menace to society and hence it should be reined.

Bottom-up, complete opposite to top-down, is a method to fuse the material from atomic or molecular species through chemical reactions, allowing for the antecedent particles to develop in size. It’s the new concept for fusion in the nanotechnology world that could transform the recipe we make materials. Since the method is opposite to top-down, it begins its function with atoms and molecules and produces larger nanostructures.

This method demands comprehensive knowledge of forces of attraction. One cannot expect things come close without any attractive energy or active field in the region.

Electroplating is the easiest such bottom-up fusion course. By inducing an electric field with an applied voltage, we can attract charged particles to the surface of a substrate where bonding will take place. Most nanostructured metals with high solidity properties are produced with this attitude. It’s already been established that electroplating produces a material layer-by-layer, atom-by-atom.

Chemical Vapour Deposition is another big choice of chemists. With the mix of volatile gases and benefits of some simple thermodynamic principles, it’s achievable to have your source material travel its way to the substrate and then bond to the surface due to high chemical potentials. This is the one time-tested technique for producing nanowires and carbon nanotubes. It’s also a technique of preference for producing quantum dots. At present, CVD is the most favourite and easily accessible technique for producing nanostructures of all kinds.

Much potential can be seen in Self-assembly, as it is a groundbreaking new technique of producing materials from the bottom-up. Ideally, with self-assembly you can throw a bunch of modified molecules in a blend, and they should do all the difficult effort for you. Physical attractive force is one mode to get self-assembly. Material like static electricity, Van der Waals forces, and an array of other short-range attractive forces can be used to adjust component molecules in an ordered collection. This method has been very efficient in producing large grids of quantum dots in a tested periodic lattice.

Our strength to put up things from the bottom up is quite insufficient in scope. We can set up simple structures but we can’t produce combined tools from the bottom up. Apart from repeating grids, any kind of general order can’t be finished without some sort of top-down effect like lithographic patterning. If we want to take full advantage of the speed and accuracy of bottom up synthesis route, we have to become proficient in it.

Advantage Textile

Obviously, there are huge benefits to have materials that are 100 times stronger than we have now. Items manufactured from these materials could have 100 times less weight, using 100 times less material. Therefore, ultra light cars, trucks, trains, and planes would use far less power, particularly with atomically soft surfaces to minimise internal abrasion and air resistance damages.

Textile industry and fabric will have much the same benefits in functioning. At present, major units of fabrics are run by molecules of natural and synthetic materials like cotton (cellulose), wool (alpha-keratins), rayon (cellulose), polyester, and the like. The molecules are knotted jointly in several fashions to weave fibres, which consecutively can be spun into yarns.

At the molecular level, and considering the strengths of molecular nanotechnology, a clear method to enhance the health and durability of a fabric would be to add force to the fibre with carbyne molecules. Carbyne is a linear chain of carbon atoms with recurrent single and triple bonds. Carbyne has been recognised for some time but within the past year research scientists have effectively stabilized the molecule in long (300-500 atoms) chains by coating the ends with trifluoromethyl and nitrile radicals. Randomly long chains will be feasible with the production of molecular. With an approximated breaking force more than 6nN 19, carbyne is tremendously powerful in tension. A cubic packed range of carbyne molecules would have a tensile force more than 50 GPa (7,000,000 psi). According to analogy, rayon used for commercial purpose has a tensile force of 0.45 GPa (65,000 psi) and nylon, 0.083 GPa (12,000 psi). However, the carbyne molecule is fairly supple, giving many alternatives for winding into fibres.

Applying the identical types of configurations that Drexler created for gate knobs in the mechanical nanocomputer, a carbyne molecule could be cross-linked to other carbyne molecules. The power and rigidity of the resultant array could be oriented by altering the number, length, and geometry of the cross-links. Created of non-cross-linked molecular arrays, Carbyne fibres would have an exceptional amount of rigidity because fissures would not spread from one molecule to the next.

Carbyne has a huge thermal conductivity along the axis of the chain of carbon atoms (approximately that of diamond, around 2100 W/m-K-five times that of copper). As diamond is constant in air to 900K (1160?F), carbyne would have similar high temperature constancy provided that the ends are finished correctly. Carbine, with these properties, would offer an outstanding base for a heatproof fabric only if it is not in direct business with well-built carbide forming components like tungsten, titanium, tantalum, and zirconium at high temperatures. The extreme axial thermal conductivity would function as a natural heat pipe to help disperse heat from hot spots on the material. With an open range of molecules together with long, extensively spaced cross-links, thermal conductivity could be fairly low in the transverse plane.

Obviously, it would not be advisable to associate the theoretical properties of carbyne with present commercial materials. Without carbyne, the present materials, which are created with molecular nanotechnology, would have much better properties on their own. According to Roger Soderberg, there would be nearly 100% competence in changing yarns to fabric tensile force because of the advanced uniformity in both strength and lengthening from one yarn to another. Fibre parting could be eliminated as a failure mode by linking individual fibres end to end and making them unbroken, but still bundled and twisted in the same formless way. If desired, it is feasible to do this while keeping the look and texture of today’s fabrics, if desired.

Smart Materials and Nanotechnology

Molecular nanotechnology will integrate computers, sensors, and micro- and nanomachines with materials and thus introduce more fundamental transformations possible, while combination of flawless materials will initiate considerable progress in functioning. Here are some concepts:

. Micro-pumps and supple micro-tubes could convey coolant or a heated mode to required portions of clothing.

. To accept only specific kinds of molecules through, sorting rotors could be arranged as “pores” in a semi-porous membrane. To keep one side of a fabric dry or another side damp, water might be a helpful molecule to choose for. The water could be moved away to an evaporator, or piled up on the wet side.

. Active programmable material is one of the most fascinating concepts heard. The concept is to get the material manufactured by tiny cellular units that link to one another with screws. To orient their comparative spacing with the screws, computers would lead the cells, which are charged with small electrostatic motors. This choice would enable the screws to rigidify and which would separate; the shape of a product could alter to match with the requirements of the user. A quick modification in the shape of fabric or momentary interruptions between some cells of fabric can make the hard, inflexible object act like a fabric. On the other hand, a stretchy fabric could become inflexible with slackly attached cells temporarily linked into a stiff framework. Thus, differences between fabrics and other kinds of materials could vague.

. The programmable material idea has surpassed the boundaries of fabrics and entered other promising uses. Drexler mentioned one instance of space suit, which would enable the astronauts to move as freely as with their own skin. Installed computers linked to strain gages could feel the wearer’s anticipated movement and tune the material appropriately. To take in required bulk of heat from the sun-opposing side and transfer it to cold spots, reflectance of the outer layer could be fluctuating - though the material’s insulating agents would allow very little of the wearer’s heat to leak. Surplus heat could be transferred to radiators on the cold side.

. Self-cleaning fabrics: robotic tools same as mites could at regular intervals rub the fabric surfaces and integral conveyors could transport the dirt to a collection site, or the before stated molecule-selective membrane could transfer water to one side or the other for a cleaning rinse.

. Self-repairing Fabrics: Antenna would sense discontinuities in the material through loss of signal or a conveyed strain excess load and send robotic “crews” to mend the damage. Self-shaping fabrics would be capable to come back to their initial shape around a tear until repairs are influenced.

. By combining panels of fabric with microscopic mechanical couplings along their edges, piles of fabrics could be manufactured without noticeable seams. In the same way, surfaces could hold mechanical couplings that, when pressed together would adhere with almost the force of the bulk material. This ’smart Velcro’ could fasten and unfasten at the request of user.

Natural Prevention & Treatment For The Flu: What Your Doctor May Not Know

Flu can affect 10 to 30 percent of the U.S. population each winter. The flu virus can linger in the air for as long as three hours. In close quarters, conditions are ripe for the spread of the virus. That explains why the highest incidence of the flu is in 5- to 18-year-olds, who spend much of their time in school, in close contact with their classmates. The most serious complications occur in older adults, however, especially those in managed care. Do not give aspirin or other “salicylates” to children or teenagers with symptoms of a cold or flu. Don’t bother taking antibiotics to treat your flu or cold; antibiotics do not kill viruses, and they should be used only for bacterial infections. Antibiotic overuse has become a very serious problem, leading to a resistance in disease-causing bacteria that may render antibiotics ineffective for some conditions.

According to a National Survey
OTC cough and cold medication sales totaled 3.2 billion dollars in 1995,
That’s no surprise, considering Americans endure about 1 billion colds each year.

The “experts” are using fear and vaccine shortage to motivate people to get a flu shot, but this is yet another healthcare illusion. Let’s be clear, flu can definitely be a killer disease and is not something that should be easily dismissed. But, remember that flu shots don’t prevent illness–never have, never will. The flu vaccine can actually weaken the immune system and make you more predisposed to the illness. And the side effects of FluMist, cough, runny nose/nasal congestion, irritability, headaches, chills, muscle aches and fever, sound just like the symptoms of the flu. If you decide to get the nasal flu vaccine, you will get not only a live flu virus in each dose but also table sugar and MSG, which are fraught with their own problems. If you take the shot you may get mercury as an added bonus.

Building A Healthy Immune System: Your #1 Offense

1) Detoxify your digestive tract and liver/gallbladder now. Disease often begins in the digestive tract and the liver is the main filter of the body. When either or both of these are sluggish then your body can be ripe for illness. This will prepare your body to readily be able to absorb, utilize and transport the good food and supplements that you will be using. It is good to do this once a month for 3 months then 2xs yearly. I would also recommend a parasite cleanse especially if you consume a lot of non-organic meat.

2) Eliminate all sugar. One teaspoon of sugar can bring the immune system down for up to 6 hours. Natural, healthy substitutes for sugar are stevia, agave nectar and Xylitol. It is best for you to satisfy your taste buds with fresh, organic fruits. Be sure to eat the whole fruit as juicing your fruit will cause your insulin levels to spike. If you crave chocolate chances are you may have a magnesium deficiency.

3) Change your diet. Your immune system will flourish on a diet of organic fruits and vegetables. Two raw salads (use dark green leafy lettuce) a day eaten with lunch and dinner will help to provide you body with much-needed vitamins and nutrients. Incorporate soups and stews into your diet. If you eat meat make sure that it is organic and free-range. Fish should be cold-water and eaten no more than twice a week. Farmed raised fish are not healthy because most of the feed corn derived and therefore you will not get the benefits of the beneficial fatty acids such as DHA and EPA. They also may be exposed to high levels of pesticides. Consider taking Chlorella to remove any mercury. If you are pregnant it is advised that you not eat fish. Cook with organic, unrefined coconut oil (try to consume 2-3 tablespoons daily) and for salads use organic, unrefined, cold-pressed olive oil. Eliminate pre-packaged foods and those foods that are canned or bagged. Purchase organic, free-range eggs and organic butter. Substitute pasteurized/homogenized milk with almond milk. You can also bake/cook with almond milk.

4) Eat a clove of garlic every day. Garlic acts in the body as a natural antibiotic. You must smash the clove in order to realize the immune enhancing properties.

5) Drink half your body weight in pure, filtered water every day. Our body is mostly water. We must put back what we eliminate through breathing, sweating and urination. Water helps the kidneys to continually flush toxins from the body. Make sure that you are drinking pure, filtered water. I recommend distilled with organic apple cider vinegar added to replace the minerals lost through distillation.

6) Exercise every single day. Exercise not only helps with blood circulation and to keep unwanted pounds away but also can help with depression. Exercise helps to move the lymph system, which will in-turn move toxins from the body. Walking outdoors in the sun will help your body with Vitamin D production. For those who dont experience a lot of sunshine it is recommended that you supplement with Vitamin D under the care of a health professional. An article published by the International Journal of Sports Medicine illustrates the effect exercise can have on infections. In this study, only 45 minutes of brisk walking per day was shown to lower the incidence of upper respiratory symptoms, cut the duration of illness in half and increase natural killer-cell activity in people prone to upper respiratory tract infections.

7) Adequate Sleep. Almost 80% of the population is sleep deprived. Sleep is necessary for our body to repair and heal. The body does the most healing between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. There is no such thing as catching-up on sleep as once it is lostit cannot be regained through marathon sleeping on the weekends. Getting adequate rest allows the immune system to repair and be in top condition.

8) Take a good organic multi-vitamin/mineral formula, Vitamin C and a Probiotic. Unfortunately eating organically doesnt always protect us in a perfect manner. Depleted soil conditions has definitely affected the nutrients contained in our vegetables and fruits. I have found one that I consider the Cadillac when it comes to providing the body with everything it needs to continue in health. It is a wise choice to consume 2-3 grams of Vitamin C (sodium ascorbate) daily in divided doses. A good probiotic will help to keep good bacteria in the digestive tract.

9) Wash your hands frequently. Wash your hands in the mornings, after every meal, after all outings, after shaking hands with people, after each trip to the bathroom and before bed. Teach your children to do the same. Do not use antibacterial soaps. The antibacterial compounds found in most of these soaps sold in the United States are likely contributing to the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Use a good all-natural soap from the health food store. Wash with warm water and use a nailbrush along the nail line and in-between fingers. Keep fresh, clean towels available to dry hands. Make sure that you keep your hands away from your eyes and mouth. When away from home, keep a mixture of lemon essential oil, lavender essential oil and distilled water (40 drops lemon essential oil and 30 drops lavender essential oil to 4 ounces of distilled water) in a dark-colored, glass, fine-mist spray bottle. Spray on hands immediately after trips to grocery stores, doctor, etc. or any time you are shaking peoples hands. At home, wipe all doorknobs frequently with this mixture. Keep a bottle at home, in the car and at work. We have these available at Oasis Advanced Wellness in a 2- ounce bottle for $9.95. Make sure that you keep your computer keys and mouse clean at all times. Also keep your phones (cell and landline) receivers clean.
10) Deal with stress. Repeated stress is one of the main causes of a suppressed immune system. Learn to manage your stress with exercise, meditation, deep breathing, walks in nature, good music, Yoga, Pilates and removing yourself from negative situations. Refuse to allow anyone or any situation to make you stressful. There are natural supplements that you can incorporate to help with stress such as B-Complex, Lithium Orotate or SamE.

In Case Of FluItems To Have On HandYour #1 Defense

1) Hydrogen Peroxide. In 1928 Richard Simmons, M.D. hypothesized that colds and flu virus enter through the ear canal. The medical community dismissed his findings. According to Dr. Simmons, contrary to what you may think or have been taught about how you catch the flu or the cold there is only one way that you can catch the two, and that’s via the ear canal not through the eyes or nose or mouth as most have believed. We have found good results in curing the flu & cold within 12 to 14 hours when administering a few drops of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) into each infected ear, (sometimes only one ear is infected) The H2O2 starts working within 2 to 3 minutes in killing the flu or cold; there will be some bubbling and in some cases mild stinging occurs. Wait until the bubbling & stinging subside (usually 5 to 10 min) then drain onto tissue and repeat other ear. A bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide in 3% solution is available at any drug store for a couple of dollars. Although this method is perfectly safe for infant/children to use, the loud bubbling and stinging frightens them, they’ll need someone they trust to put the hp in their ears. (Dont get h2o2 in the eyes- if you do, flush with water)
2) Colloidal Silver. Colloidal Silver is anti-bacterial and anti-viral and has been used for hundreds of years for its antibiotic affect on the body. Most brands are very expensive and are golden in color. This indicates that there are additives in the product. Silver is the whitest of metals and the solution should be clear to a tiny bit white in color. More PPM does not necessarily make a good colloidal silver. In fact the lower the PPM the better able for it to penetrate the cell wall. While some will say that silver has no benefit, this is not what we have found at our house. Call your healthcare professional for therapeutic dosages.
3) Oregano Oil. Oregano Oil can be as an effective pain reliever as morphine. For sinus congestion or stuffiness place 1 drop of oregano oil in 1 ounce of warm water. (more is not better) Make sure that the oil is dispersed. Place 1-2 drops of the mixture in each nostril and sniff. The mixture will burn for about 30 seconds. This will help to break up sinus congestion. Do this 3-4 times daily and before bed. To take orally drop 3-5 drops in a veggie cap and take with food three times daily. Oregano Oil is also anti-bacterial and anti-viral.

4) Vitamin C. Capsules and powder are best. Take up to bowel tolerance. Taking the recommended dosage on the bottle will not be enoughfor preventative purposes, double or triple it. If sick, divide the dosage and take some every hour—up to 6 grams daily. According to Linus Pauling, adults should be taking at least 2-3 grams a day. There is much evidence about increased health with 2 grams a day, and of course even more with 4 or 6 grams a day. Even an extra 60mg had been shown to add value in cutting down the death rate from heart disease, cancer and other diseases. Now my feeling is as people grow older they ought to be increasing their vitamin C and perhaps they should follow the policy that I have followed of increasing the intake. It can be either one chunk, one dose in the morning, or even better three doses throughout the day, increasing the intake until a laxative effect is observed, speeding up the rate of elimination of waste material from the bowel. So my suggestion is every person who wants to have the best of health should increase the intake of vitamin C to somewhat less than the amount that causes significant looseness of the bowel.
5) Drink lots of fresh vegetable juice and pure, clean water. Flooding the body with liquids will help to flush out toxins and will also give the body added enzymes (helps with inflammation and pain) and nutrients.
6) Premier 8 Glyconutrients have been given the title of the new class of missing nutrients or miracle sugars. Scores of studies have linked a deficiency of the extraordinary sugars to everything from lupus and diabetes to heart disease to cancer; from ADHD to infertility. Dozens of illnesses have been linked to an imbalance of these sugars. This is NOT the same as table sugar. Order the book Miracle Sugars by Rita Elkins for more explanation. Glyconutrients may represent the best of preventative medicine and may help with the following: viral infection, fungal infection, parasitic disease, bacterial disease, micro-bacterial disease, auto-immune disease. Providing the immune system with the right glyconutrients helps it recognize infectious organisms more readily. Remember, it is the glycol or sugar portion of both our immune cells and invading organisms that transfer messages. There is only one company (multi-level) that currently offers a similar product for a much higher price. You can get Premier 8 only through Oasis Advanced Wellness.

7) Zinc Lozenges According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, when using zinc lozenges it is important to recognize that they need to be sucked on, NOT swallowed, and smaller doses taken more frequently seem to work better. Suck on a quarter lozenge every 30 minutes. If started early, this approach seems to work well for the majority of people. One caution: if the lozenges make you nauseous they should be stopped immediately as this is a sign of zinc toxicity. Do not use zinc lozenges that contain aspartame.

8) Eucalyptus Essential Oil Diffuse eucalyptus essential oil into the air when sleeping at night. This will help to keep the sinuses and nasal passages open. It is also anti-viral and anti-bacterial. During the day diffuse lemon essential oil in the air, especially to keep other family members from getting sick.

If you take preventative steps now you will be doing yourself and your family a huge favor. Always make sure that you are prepared if the flu happens to hit you or a family member. If your immune system is functioning at a good level then your down time and side effects should be minimal. Talk with your family about the suggestions in this article and then implement as many as possible. You will be glad that you started early!

Replacing a Stock Radio in a Ford Taurus 2002 SEL

So my friend and I are somewhat into car audio/visual (it’s a lot of fun) and decided to change out my stock Ford radio for an aftermarket one.

We didn’t really know what we were getting ourselves into until we got out the old deck. The ‘ol junker (well not really a junker, since it’s an EATC temperature control module coupled with a CD player) was one big circuit board. This thing looked so out-of-date that man could have went to the moon with it (produced in 1974).

We got the deck out, bought an aftermarket dash kit from the local car audio dealer, and connected the new deck. THAT part was easy - but wiring the EATC back up (electronic automatic temperature control) was worse then sticking yourself in the eye with a hot poker.

Here’s a tip to anyone who wants to replace their stock car radios - NEVER cut the wiring harnesses. That being said, finding another wiring harness for the beast that actually works has been almost impossible. None of the wiring diagrams off any website were of merit - and Ford has none themselves that could be of help to us.

On top of that, the aftermarket dash kit we bought didn’t have any knobs - they expected us to supply ones from the last heating system - and nothing to plug the knobs into. We could order the knobs - $12 each - order the switches - etc. The wiring harness was $80, the switches were around $100 for all three…so the total cost for fixing this heating system would be getting close to $500 when you incorporate the cost of the aftermarket dash kit as well.

I don’t think I’ll ever replace the stock radio in a Ford again. At least if I do, it would have to be a model that Ford RECOGNIZES and actually has help regarding the model. Buying replacement parts at Canadian Tire just dosen’t cut it - they never work or fit - and when a Ford dealership can barely help you, you really wonder who can.

Long story short - with winter fast approaching we fused two wires together to turn the heat on for the winter. Simple solution. Likely when summer rolls around, we’ll fuse a couple together to turn on the AC.

Only thing that bothers me is I can’t turn the heat up or down. But it’s on - so scrue it.

Christmas Decorating That Will Make Your Holidays Special

If you are like the majority of people, you do not have a lot of time during the holidays to make special decorations. You can make your holiday decorating quick and easy and create a festive atmosphere in your home without spending a lot of time and money, leaving you more time to enjoy the holiday season with your family. Here are some holiday decorating tips that are free and inexpensive that will require very little effort:

Tableware:

Use festive tableware for every meal during the month of December. Search your cupboards and drawers and get out anything that looks remotely festive. You can also shop discount and one-dollar stores and find many items for the holidays that you can use every year. You can add to your collection of holiday tableware each year and soon you will have many types of dishes that will make your holidays special.

Bows:

Try decorating with bows. Ribbons tied around chairs, plants, candlesticks, drapes, stairs and doorknobs make wonderful decorations. Place bows and ribbons in many locations throughout your home for a festive look that is quick and easy. The bows and ribbons do not have to be green and red. You can try many colors or match the bows and ribbons to the colors you have in your home. Choose ribbons that you can reuse each year. When the holidays are over, pack the bows and ribbons carefully so that you can use them again and again.

Wreaths:

Put a holiday wreath on every door in your home. Use real pine, holly, and grapevine and decorate with berries, fruit and pinecones. If you purchase artificial wreaths you will be able to use them year after year.

Candles:

Arrange many candles around the room and turn the lights off during holiday meals. You will create a special, festive atmosphere that will be remembered and anticipated by your family each year. A fire in the fireplace each night will add to the holiday spirit. You can also arrange candles in your bathroom and around your bathtub. Watch small children carefully when you decorate with candles.

Holiday decorating does not have to be difficult or expensive. Simple decorations throughout your house will make fond memories for your family and will be anticipated year after year. Make sure to put out plenty of scented potpourri and scented oils in various locations throughout your home.

Shopping For Acoustic Guitars

Guitars are played expansively in all occasions, and are considered to be one of the ancient forms of music instrument. People learn it for hobby, interest, or various other reasons. Among the classical guitars, acoustic guitars are believed to be the contemporary lineage of the well known guitars.

Acoustic guitars do not need the support of electricity. Acoustic guitars produce lucid and loud sound. Recently, many forms of guitars have flooded the music market, yet acoustic guitars are more prominent as they are the successors of prevailing guitars. Customarily, all non electric guitars are recognized as acoustic guitars. Acoustic guitars promote the students in focusing on the basics of playing a proper sound without any sort of distractions from knobs or amplifiers that are invariably seen on electric guitars and can be a reason for distraction to beginners. Beginners can practice it anywhere as it is portable.

Acoustic guitars are produced using many types of materials right from environmental wood to plastic. People purchasing acoustic guitars give importance in understanding the materials used in the instrument. Acoustic guitars made of solid wood sides, tops and back are the priciest ones. Generally, guitars are made from rosewood or mahogany, the exclusive woods. The average variety guitars are made as a combination of solid tops with laminated sides or backs, and the lower side is made of laminated wood. Exclusive attention is given to the type of wood used and its construction. Guitar made of dried wood is considered to be the best guitar due to the nonexistence of moisture that can destroy the entire guitar in a short time.

Acoustic guitars are available in many varieties made of different species of woods. Acquiring an acoustic guitar involves checking every individual part of the guitar like the neck, the bridge, the body as well as the end blocks. It is very essential to have a perfect bridge unit as the part of the bridge that touches the strings produce vibrations transmitting improved sound quality. Bridges made of plastic are not worth buying as they fail to produce pleasing sound.

Rock band artists, folk groups, country music, and many other prominent guitarists use acoustic guitars as it produces astonishing sounds naturally. Amongst guitars the Dreadnought guitar is preferred by guitarists as it can be easily played with fingers. Technological developments and techniques have enhanced the quality and reliability of these instruments leading to more demand and availability at affordable prices.

Home Inspections - 10 Things to Keep in Mind During Your Inspection

In discussions with novice and experienced inspectors, the same things come up over and over again. Here are ten things you should keep in mind as the inspection is conducted.

1. Have realistic expectations about the home.

A limited understanding of aging in older homes can create stress in purchasers, who might expect a greater degree of perfection than would typically be possible.

Everyone knows that there is a difference between a 100 year old house and a newer home. Older houses perform differently, and were built to different standards. Older homes age differently based on era of construction.

A perfect example of this is a basement that was originally built of stone, then packed with mortar and parged to make a more water-resistant area. Although it still leaks, this is an average 100 year old basement, which would not be considered acceptable in a 20 year old home. Or consider that an older septic bed or weeping tile system is more susceptible to problems than a newer one.

Even though there are norms for aging in homes that make pretty good general guidelines, each house has its own unique personality that you need to understand and respect.

2. Keep your emotions in check.

You want to avoid feeling roller coaster highs and lows when major expense items are identified by the inspector. Keeping your emotions in check allows you to absorb more information and to keep from getting overwhelmed by ?all the little things?.

As a purchaser, you must remember that your feelings on the building are not relevant to the inspector?s actual report. The inspector is required to report on every defect that he finds, but the inspector should also put things into context for you.

Of course, a good inspector will not over-express his personal feelings and opinions about a house, and what should be done with the house. The inspector should not lose sight of what the homebuyer may be thinking or feeling in order to help his client make an informed assessment. This allows the inspector to explain the things that need extra clarification.

3. There is no such thing as a defect-free home.

A brand new structure will have some items in need of correction, and the most immaculately kept home will also have some issues that could use some improvement. There is no home ever inspected that required no ink on the inspection report.

The inspector is attempting to educate you on all of the little things that need to be done, and he also has the overall goal of helping you identify major expense items. While it may seem like the inspector is picking on your purchase decision, he is really just trying to pack as much information as he can into the limited time frame that he has to spend with you. Remember that it is important to keep things in context.

Inspectors want to give their clients a lot of useful and relevant information on the property, but sometimes, even when there aren?t any major issues, it is possible that some inspectors may go overboard by individually describing all the little things. It may only be a window screen here, and a door knob over there, but after a long descriptive analysis of several details, you may arrive at the conclusion that “My God! There are a lot of things wrong with this house!”

A good inspector will not waste everyone’s time and emotional capacity discussing every doorknob and screen in the house. You should be told verbally, and in writing, that there are “one or more” or “some” or “several” minor repairs or improvements required on doorknobs or window screens, or whatever.

4. You need to understand the most important items now.

It is a good idea to differentiate between what you what is critical to know now, and what you can clarify after you move in.

For example, in the inspector?s efforts to ensure that you successfully accomplish a maintenance activity on your new home, he may tell you how easy it is and possibly explain how to do it. Keep in mind that he is telling you for information purposes, and that you will need additional guidance or instruction when actually doing it for yourself.

5. The inspection procedure is the same every time.

The inspector follows a systematic method of examining and reporting on items, so he will lead you through the house and how you things in a particular order. This consistency of approach is the method that he uses to cover all of the countless items that he must examine.

If you consistently ask questions about things that the inspector has not yet had a chance to discuss, then you will throw him off and he may forget to explain something of note.

This is not meant to dissuade you from asking pertinent questions to help clarify things in your mind. If you are wondering “What the heck is he talking about now?? then you need to ask the inspector to explain. While you can telephone your inspector at any time, you have the perfect opportunity to share his time now.

For example, if he is discussing basement dampness and you ask about the electrical system, he should redirect your attention to the topic at hand, and then discuss the electrical when the time comes.

6. Pay attention.

This sounds obvious, but every inspector has encountered a time when they have given their clients a big explanation about why something should be done, or not done, only to find out later that they completely missed (or misinterpreted) a key point. If a homebuyer isn’t listening, the message simply does not get through.

The inspection is an important time, designed to inform you and save you money in the short and long term. If you are distracted by anything (children, relatives, friends, etc), you may not get some important information. Do not consider the inspection a good opportunity to show the home to important people in your life.

If there are too many people saying too many things all at once, don’t be shy to politely ask for some space to consult with your inspector. The inspector may also redirect your attention to the business at hand.

7. The inspector is a generalist, not a specialist.

The inspector knows how to diagnose problems, but the smart inspector does not offer solutions if he is not completely conversant in the matter at hand. He should guide you to consult a specialist if the matter involves a more thorough analysis.

However, all inspectors have a specialty. If he is a licensed electrician, then you will get more information on electrical issues than if he is an engineer.

8. The inspection is the only thing the inspector knows about.

Most of the issues involving a home purchase have nothing to do with the inspection. Unless he is being paid to pump a septic tank or test a well, you’re probably a little off-track talking about it. If you ask where the boundary lines are or what the home value is, you should be told by the inspector that he doesn?t know. These discussions won’t accomplish anything at the moment, and it’s something you would be better off discussing with your agent or lawyer.

Think about the big picture, keeping in mind that buying a house is a big project, and the inspector is only paid to be involved in one part of it.

9. Have fun.

It isn?t every day that you get to buy a home. Enjoy the process as best as you can. Lighten up. There is a lot of work and angst involved in home inspections and home buying, and adding stress will take away from your effectiveness in understanding the inspection and making decisions.

10. Follow up.

If your inspector directs you to follow up on issues with another specialist, be it for termites, wood stoves, insurance or other issues, it is incumbent upon you to do so. This is not a case of the inspector passing the buck, but a case of making you aware of issues that require further investigation.

There are also going to be areas that are disclaimed due to restricted access. Focus on these as soon as you can so that you can find out if anything was hidden from view.

If you are told to do some maintenance and fail to do so, there may be negative consequences. As an example, failing to caulk the bathtub or re-grout the tiles could result in a simple case of rot, or plaster could fall with damage to furnishings or personal injuries. The inspector may not warn you of all possible consequences, because he expects that you will do your due diligence with respect to repairs or maintenance.

Tips For Learning to Play the Electric Guitar

The electric guitar is one of the most powerful musical instruments today. It dominates every popular genre and style of music in the modern world. The sheer flexibility of the electric guitar in terms of volume, tone and sound quality makes it an ultimate musical instrument.

The electric guitar is an instrument of power or finesse, of speed or subtlety, but definitely, it is an instrument of musical glory. For those people who would want to learn how to play the electric guitar, here are some noteworthy tips:

1. Use a nylon guitar first

If one is thinking about learning how to play a guitar by using an electric guitar, he should think about it twice. If one is just learning how to play the guitar, he shouldn’t do it with an electric guitar. Electric guitars use steel strings which can be very uncomfortable for beginners. Besides, learning the basics from an acoustic guitar teaches one to use a holistic guitar playing approach rather than relying on the effects and features of an electric guitar. Electric guitar playing should come subsequently after learning how to play using an acoustic guitar.

2. Know your electric guitar

If one already knows how to play a guitar and is thinking of buying an electric guitar, he should know the different features and qualities of the electric guitar. The same thing goes for people who are using an old electric guitar. Playing with the knobs and controls of the electric guitar will give one an idea of how to mix everything properly to be able to get an optimal sound. Electric guitars are not plug-and-play instruments, they require a lot of sensitivity in terms of mixing sounds and tones together.

3. Buy a decent amp

An expensive electric guitar will sound crappy on low quality amps on any given day. When getting an electric guitar amp, make sure to test the amp at the store. If possible, turn all the knobs to the highest value and listen to the sound that the amp will produce. There are also amps out there that have a built-in distortion option which can be switched on and off. This feature is especially useful for people who have no money to buy an effects box since a distortion feature is the most essential for any electric guitar.

4. Buy a decent effects box

An effects box is a great tool to have when playing an electric guitar. One can make all sorts of sounds using an effects box. The basic tones that one should look for in an effects box are: good distortion sounds, chorus, reverb, amp simulator and easy adjustments modules.

5. Get durable cables

Cables are also an integral part of the whole electric guitar system. Cheap and low quality cables are not worth investing into because they will wear out soon.

6. Listen to electric guitar tracks

A great way to holistically grasp the basics of electric guitar playing is to listen to great electric guitar classics. Many lessons are learned just by listening to different riffs and tunes that are produced from electric guitars.

Electric guitars are somewhat different from unplugged guitars. There are skills that are needed to play the electric guitar properly aside from the basic ones. Practice is always the best way to learn how to play the electric guitar.

A Key to Real Estate Profits: Buying A Fixer Upper

It’s no secret about the great profits to be reaped from buying homes in bad condition and fixing them up for resale. This may seem easy but its a time consuming, risky venture.

First you need to be able to distinguish a house as a potential profit, or a losing investment. Cosmetic repairs are usually inexpensive and pay back double their cost. However the expense of correcting any major structural problems might no raise the market value of the home, and you could end up in the negative on your investment.

The first thing you want to evaluate is the floor plan. A great layout with disastrous decor is the perfect combination for a fixer upper. These types of homes are turned around with minimal investment.

Check out all the major components of the home very thoroughly. Hire yourself an experienced architect if you plan a major renovation that includes moving walls. Always hire a professional inspector to check out any home before you make an offer.

The most important factor to the success of a fixer upper home is location. You need to buy in the best neighborhood you can afford, and make sure you don’t over invest for your area.
Successful renovators use the lease option as a way to finance a fix up project. The buyer gives the seller a small amount of cash to use towards a predetermined purchase price and then leases the property from the seller. During this time the buyer fixes up the property.
When all work is complete, the buyer exercises the option, completes the purchase, and sells the property to another buyer for profit.

A home with a large structural pest control problem may be a good fixer upper, but its important to have a professional evaluate ahead of time what sot of work is necessary.

The curb appeal of a home is important for the resale. The first thing potential buyers see is the font of your home and yard. So plan on redoing the landscaping and front area of the home. When renovating always stick to neutral color schemes. Also, spend a little extra on less expensive home fixtures such as light fixtures, door knobs, cabinet knobs, and plumbing fixtures. Quality and detail build you a great reputation which is great if you plan to sell more properties in the neighborhood.

The best time for people to buy a fixer upper home is when the prices of homes are steadily climbing. There’s substantially less risk involved if you’re buying a fixer upper, and planning on living in it while you fix it up.

Keep in mind to look out for environmentally hazardous materials on the property. Hire a professional to come and double check before you even make an offer.

Any first time renovations should really make sure they are temperamentally table enough to handle a job like this. Renovation projects need to be closely supervised to keep them on budget. Renovators must pay attention to details, an ability to organize, and deal with any roadblocks calmly and efficiently.

Practical Solutions for Arthritis Sufferers to Overcome Daily Challenges (schaub)

Practical Solutions for Arthritis Sufferers to Overcome Daily Challenges

Arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, is a condition that can affect your quality of life tremendously if you do not know how to manage it well. If you can control the condition and manage it effectively, you will be able to reduce its impact on your life. Having arthritis does not mean that you can never be self-reliant again. With appropriate adjustments made to your daily living, you can still do most of your daily tasks by yourself. Below are some helpful practical solutions on how you can make your living easier with arthritis.

* Lifting things
If you need to lift things, you should try to bend your knees and not your back. This can help reduce much pain and damage to your back.

* Avoid stretching
If the items you often used are placed at the upper shelves of cupboards and you need to stretch yourself to reach for these items, you should place these items at the lower shelves. In this way, you do not need to strain yourself to get them when you need them. If you need to cook using the back burner, you can make use of long-handled utensils for cooking. This can help make your cooking easier.

* Opening containers
As far as possible, you should use your elbow or palm to open sealed containers. Try to avoid using your fingers too often.

* Chair with arms
You should use chair with arms for sitting as they are much easier to get into and out of. For people who suffer from back pain, these chairs with arms will provide additional support for them.

* Door knobs
If the door knobs around your house are the round type and hard to grip, you should change them to the level type which only requires a light push to open the door. It would certainly make your task of opening doors much easier.

* Tap handles
Water taps with lever handles can be pushed on and off with very little effort. If the water taps in your house are not this kind and are more difficult to use, you should consider replacing them. This can prevent excessive strain on your fingers.

* Wall switches
There are wall switches that can be switched on and off simply by pushing them. If your present wall switches are not of this type, you should consider replacing them. Similarly, you can replace those lamps in your house with those which can be turned on and off simply by touching the base.

* Shower chairs
A shower chair provides convenience and comfort as you can shower while sitting. You can consider getting a shower chair if you do not have one yet. In addition, a handrail can be installed at the side to help you move in and out of the chair.

* Liquid soap
If you are presently using a soap bar for bathing, you can consider using liquid soap instead. In that case, you do not need to worry that the soap bar will fall off from the grip of your hand anytime and you have to pick it up from the tub or the floor. You can mount a liquid soap dispenser any place on the wall which is convenient for you. Try to get the type which you can dispense the liquid soap with just a light push.

* Automatic garage door
If you need to open your garage door very often, you can consider buying an automatic garage door. This will make opening the garage door much easier and save you from exerting stress excessive on your joints.

* Installing stair lift
If you have difficulty using the staircase, you can install a stair lift in your home to help you get up and down to different floors of your house with ease.

* Lighter household appliances
Having lighter household appliances can help to lighten your work load. If you can find lighter electrical appliances than you present ones, you should consider replacing them. Using lighter models of electrical appliances, such as vacuum cleaner, electric iron, etc, will certainly make your work easier.

* Engaging services
If you experience painful flare-ups on certain days, you can engage some available services to do certain tasks such as mowing the lawn, washing the car, cleaning the house, etc. This can prevent damage to your joints and help make living easier.

If you take appropriate steps to cope with arthritis, living can become easier and more manageable. The above tips are some ways you can adopt to help you achieve this. Despite having arthritis, there is a lot you can do to remain self reliant. Instead of allowing the disease to impact greatly on your life, you should make adjustments in your daily living to cope with it. You are the only one to determine how much it can impact on your life. For more ways on overcoming rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, please visit Homecare and Elderly care.

Country Decorating Ideas - Create Warmth And Charm With Country Style Decorating Ideas

Country decorating ideas can help you create a home that is warm, inviting and the perfect home to live in. Country style decorating ideas can help you capture the spirit of country living during modern times. If you are restoring a country home, try to keep the original woodwork, windows, floors, fixtures and cabinetry unless they are beyond salvaging. For decorating a new or existing home, there are choices you can make that will provide you with the charm and comfort of life in the countryside.

Consider these country decorating ideas and country style decorating ideas:

1. Country Dining Rooms - use a large rectangular table made of pine, oak, walnut or mahogany with wooden chairs or old benches that are similar in style and material. A corner cupboard, plate racks, dresser or sideboard will provide perfect storage and serving area for the dining room as long as they match the style and the materials of the table and chairs.

2. Country Bathroom Decorating - country bathroom floors are made of wood, ceramic tile, linoleum, vinyl or natural cork. Carpeting used in the country bathroom is not appropriate. Wood and brass accessories are perfect materials to use in a country bathroom. Plain white towels instead of patterned or bright modern patterns are better. Wicker or wire baskets keep your sponges, loofas and shampoos handy near the tub or shower besides looking great.

3. Country Kitchen Decorating Ideas - use country decorating ideas in your kitchen. Give your kitchen a calm, elegant country atmosphere with soft colored walls, antique-looking lighting (chandeliers with wrought iron arms), wooden antiques or antique reproduction cabinets, plate racks and stone or wood fireplaces. Kitchen cabinets made of wood, aged surfaces, natural materials, rough finishes and round knobs provide a country style. Cabinets or kitchen furniture made of pine, even painted, can be beautiful key elements in the country kitchen. Country kitchen countertops use ceramic tiles or even hand painted tiles, slate or marble. If you want to use laminate materials, go for plain colors for coverings. Terracotta tiles, brick, stone and wood are very popular materials for country kitchen floors.

4. Kids Rooms - use wicker baskets, wooden chests and wooden bookshelves for storing books, toys and stuffed animals. When using tall bookshelves in your kids rooms, anchor them to the ceiling or walls so they cannot tip over. Bright colored plastic boxes are not good country style decorating ideas.

5. Furniture - furniture with simple lines, perhaps made of lacquered pine wood works great. Give furniture a rustic look by finishing it in a distressed, aged way. For example, brush on a coat of paint, then rub most of the paint off with a sponge or cloth. When dried, apply wood stain sealer unevenly. It will be perfect! Or use two paint colors and sandpaper to create a distressed look for unpainted or previously painted surfaces. Get free country decorating ideas by visiting your local home decorating or paint store for help with materials and techniques. Have fun looking for antiques, reproductions and handmade products when buying furniture for your country home.

6. Sofas or Love Seats - country decorating ideas can transform your love seat or sofa. Add a beautiful loose floral print slipcover for a romantic country look. Include padded stools and ottomen for comfort and as a place to set your drinks or newspaper. Add one or more rocking chairs. Traditional country chairs and sofas have high backs. And if the living room has a bay window, consider building a window seat with several cushions, a perfect place for reading and relaxing. High tripod side tables are appropriate next to the sofa or love seat for country home decor.

7. Antique Cupboards or White Cabinets - use a white cabinet or antique cupboard to show your ceramics, pottery, yellowware bowls, glass jars, or a collection of enamelware from 75 years ago to give your home a beautiful country style. Open shelving not only provides storage, it gives the room a country look, especially when earthware, stoneware and rustic items are displayed.

Country decorating ideas and country style decorating ideas remind us of the way life was lived many years ago. Everyday country life was often difficult, filled with physical demands and long hours. Even so, country life was simpler and closer to nature without the stress of modern city life.

Use country decorating ideas to help recreate the ambience, peacefulness and pleasures of this closeness to nature without having to endure the hardships. Read all you can find about country style decorating ideas. From using old furniture to the colors and fabrics you choose to how your things are arranged, create the country atmosphere in your home that celebrates the lifestyle that used to be.

Benefits Of Conservatory Sunroom

Victorian.

Arts and Crafts Revival

Copyright 2006 Melissa Galt

The terms Arts and Crafts and Mission Style are often used synonymously today. They refer to a style of home design and furnishings emphasizing natural materials, especially wood, and showcasing a pronounced geometry in the design. Their tremendous revival in popularity stems largely from their association with hand-crafted elements (though many knock-offs are manufactured by machine), a rarity in this technologically advanced age. The pieces offer an heirloom quality and a patina that deepens with age. Arts and Crafts furnishings and interiors are also typically very durable and classic with a timeless appeal. They suit today?s desire to simplify and get back to basics. Arts and Crafts interiors are an ideal marriage of function and aesthetic; spaces are designed to work for those living there. To create your own Arts and Crafts interior, there are several elements to consider, both in materials and design.

The materials of an Arts and Crafts interior, while not limited to nature, emphasize wood, stone, glass (made from sand), ceramic tiles (made from minerals/earth), and textiles (using wool, cotton, or linen fibers, and, of course, leather). Much of the visual pattern comes from the grain of the wood selected. Traditionally oak was used, but currently natural cherry is frequently enjoyed. The oak tends to have a golden brown gleam, while the cherry is redder. Both darken naturally with age, which is to be expected.

Flooring, all architectural trim/molding, doors, stair rails and stiles, and exposed structural supports are all typically wood, oak being most prevalent. Waxed or oil finishes prevail. Joints are pegged, or hand-crafted metal hardware is used. Door knobs, cabinet pulls and the like are again hand-crafted wrought iron or bronze in black, umber, or verdigris. Many are square or rectangular shaped and are hand hammered. For a lighter look, some homeowners today are opting for a soft brushed pewter or nickel finish instead. Once you have the guidelines, you can bend them to suit. If an alternative to a wood floor is desired, tile or slate would be appropriate substitutes. The tile should be large and laid in a linear pattern, not on the diagonal.

To balance and complement the visual depth of the wood, walls are often treated with a textured paint or plastered. (The old bungalows have original plaster.) A good bet is the river rock finish that Ralph Lauren paint provides. Paint schemes bear an influence from nature with goldenrod yellows, burnt sienna browns, cimmaron and Indian reds, sage and moss greens, and a neutral palette of earthy tans, toasts, and beiges. The overall feeling has a harmony, continuity, with all elements working together, none upstaging the other. It is about creating an organic home, one that works within its environment and makes the most of its surroundings both outside and inside.

Fireplaces have wood or stone mantels, with stone, ceramic or occasionally brick surrounds. The wood is again oak with a golden stain, usually waxed or rubbed, not polyurethaned. Satin or matte finishes rule. Stone is field stone– stacked dry or with mortar, it presents a terrific textural visual. River rock may be used instead and the round smooth stones provide a counterpoint to the rectilinear geometry otherwise present. Ceramic tiles will typically have a motif from nature, perhaps a leaf or acorn, or be an iridescent finish. Today glass tiles are also used to great advantage. Brick, when employed, is smooth faced and laid in clean horizontal bands. Again, one of the clear features of an Arts and Crafts interior is the linear quality. The feeling that the house is part of a bigger view, part of the horizon, is all an effort to be from and of the earth.

Historically, many of the Arts and Crafts and Mission homes sported art glass windows, or at least many panes. This enabled windows to be left uncovered and still appear decorative. Today, art glass windows can be cost prohibitive except in select areas, so if treatment is desired for either privacy, light, or heat control, simpler is better. This translates to either plain Roman shades, silhouettes, wood blinds, or panels on either tabs or rings on a decorative rod (wood or wrought iron) with finials. If tiebacks are desired consider sisal tassels, simple and bold, or a band of the same fabric as the drapery. No trim or other decorative element is required. Fabric patterns may herald nature, such as a leaf print, or be based in geometry. There is a wide range on the market today including historical prints by William Morris and designs by Frank Lloyd Wright. The same may also be found in wall covering, though use it sparingly as it is often busy and distracting. Arts and Crafts and Mission Style today both represent a desire for a wholesome, hearty lifestyle, a return to yesterday?s values.

Furnishings in the Arts and Crafts home are again wood, occasionally with a wrought iron or ceramic tile accent. Glass is rarely used. Tables, being functional as well as good looking, often have at least a drawer and a shelf for storage. Shapes are squares, rectangles and octagons. Today more rounds are available. Again, the geometry created by edges is most apparent. Sofas and chairs are often wood backed with exposed wood arms and cushions that can be readily cleaned or changed out depending on the season. Flexibility and adaptability are prime features. Mission style goes a step further and often offers sofas or chairs with a deep wood shelf surrounding them acting as the arm and a table (Frank Lloyd Wright design), which gives the illusion of a built-in piece. Leather is frequently used or fabrics in natural fibers such as cotton, linen, or wool. Rich colors and geometric or patterns drawn from nature abound. The most significant interest comes from the combination of elements, again, no one piece dominating. Busy patterns are used sparingly, increasing longevity and flexibility of the furnishings. Resources for furnishings include Stickley, American Impressions by Ethan Allen, and Cotswald Furnishings, a superior resource for hand-crafted furnishings and more in Atlanta.

Lighting in an Arts and Crafts or Mission home is critical, especially with all the dark woods and depth of color schemes popular. While ceiling lights, including recessed, can give a good general light, it is far more effective and pleasing to adopt a wealth of luminaries. Torchieres (floor lamps that give uplight, and are best placed in corners) can provide valuable general lighting, while table lamps and floor lamps provide invitation and welcome. Accent lighting can be done with mantel lamps, sconces, and dresser lamps. The two most common types of lamps are the mica and metal designs (the body of the lamp being hammered bronze or copper, the shade a sheet of mica) and the art glass lamps with wood or art glass bases and shades of glass in geometric patterns and a squared coolie shape. Other lighting options include a wealth of reproduction lighting through several lighting sources such as Arroyo Craftsmen and Yamagiwa. (They are available through designers and have an outstanding line of Frank Lloyd Wright designs.)

Accents, accessories, and artwork should be kept to a minimum to allow for a fuller appreciation of the architecture of the home and materials of nature showcased. This is a good chance to provide balance to the predominance of wood with elements in glass, ceramics, and metal. Both bowls and vessels are readily available in all materials mentioned here. Iridescent ware in both ceramics and glass provides an airy complement to the weight and depth of the wood.

What you need to know about cruise holidays

Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of driving, sitting erect in a plane etc., go for a voyage through water- a cruise which provides you the best comfort and sight seeing. Sea journey has its own charm and charisma. The world seems a live paradise when you get the chance to gaze the Sky kissing on the forehead of Earth. Such is the unprecedented experience of the scenic splendor exclusively through a cruise. Planes and jets can make you reach your destination instantly but if you are in no hurry and in a mood to relax then a cruise is the most appropriate and a perfect idea.

There are a variety of cruises. Some vessels like Christmas market cruises are small while others ocean going ones are comparatively quite large. Then there are those that have an aura of remarkable serenity contrary to the ones that are extremely vibrant and brimming up with life. Cruises also vary according to the age groups of people. Like the serene ones are usually meant for the grown ups, while families with kids prefer entertaining cruises to keep their children busy throughout.

To take up a journey via cruise, all you have to do is to decide which place to go. Fir instance if you have cruised Bahamas then you can go for Caribbean or Asian cruise and the like. Travel agencies will let you know about the fares and special packages that are mostly available round the year especially during off-season. Cruises like planes and trains are studded with people during festive season. So if you want to travel in peace, to make a journey while festive season at your destination is not a correct idea.
Nowadays people especially the honeymoon couples opt to cruise some of the places. This is because of the heavenly experience of traveling in the midst of huge oceans and also because of a surge in the amenities available at the cruise. From ravishing rooms, delectable cuisine to small golf clubs, video games and small casinos for gamblingall add to the enthusiasm to travel through cruise. Moreover the incredible hospitality and watchfulness of the staff on the deck adds a feather to the aura of the cruise.
One more benefit of cruise is that you get to know many a people. Since you all remain in the same vessel for a while, the passengers at the end of the day start enjoying each others company and make good friends with each other. it might at times be a little harrowing to take up to a new place where you hardly know anyone.

Generally it is believed that cruises are unhygienic i.e. they are infected with harmful microorganisms. The outbreak of diseases like gastrointestinal add fuel to the fire. However, the organizations like CDC i.e. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and VSP- Vessel Sanitation reveal that such outbreaks are not directly related to the hygiene and cleanliness of the vessel. It is more often communicated from one passenger to the other. This is because in a cruise many people stay together, they touch same things one after the other like doorknobs etc. so the infection transfers frequently to one another.
It is better if you gat your medical checkup done before going to a cruise. If you are physically weak and your antibodies do not have much potential to fight microbes, avoid traveling in a cruise. Also if you are scared of water and feel sick in it, cruise isnt a recommendable option. But if none of these problems exist with you and you are a healthy person then keep several things in mind. For instance wash your hands from time to time especially before eating, keep all the safety medicines with you like headache pills and so forth. Last but not the least go with a travel insurance to avoid all hazards.

(Valli valli) Why Buy ENERGY STAR Qualified Appliances?

More info…
By R.L. Fielding
If you are looking for ways to stretch your pocketbook while helping the environment, consider updating your appliances.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans spend more than $140 billion a year on energy bills and our home appliances use the bulk of that energy. It’s estimated that purchasing new ENERGY STAR appliances can cut your annual utility costs by up to 30 percent.
While all appliances sold in the

Child Safety Devices for Windows and Roller Blinds

The need to have child safety devices installed in households with children is obvious as toddlers often get themselves in potentially dangerous situations and could easily hut themselves while attempting to explore their surroundings. Even when left unsupervised for a little while they can end up getting hurt. Due to the ever increasing number of house accidents caused by windows and blinds, the industry has reacted and has come up with a variety of solutions to put an end to this phenomenon.

The threat open windows pose is

The 4 Basic Elements to Building a Green Home

Green building is more than the actual construction of your home, though that is a big part of the process. It is a beginning to end process which begins with the selection of your land, the design of your dream home, the materials and practices used during construction and finally, how you operate and maintain your dream home once it is completed. You can incorporate as many or as few of these elements into your home’s design as you choose.
You decide how "Green" you want to be.
Let’s look at the four basic elements

The 3 things you need to do to have a successful online business

The P O P Method of Success
by Natalie Williams
http://www.SmallHostingPlans.com

There are 3 main things you need to do in order to be successful with an online business.

Prepare, Obtain & Promote

Prepare
You need to prepare and establish a website. This includes a domain name, hosting account, website pages , a shopping cart and a merchant account.
When you sign up with Small Hosting Plans, you receive a domain name for 2 years, website template, and a shopping cart that is already enabled to accept PayPal as your merchant account and Checks. You are also able to upgrade the cart if you would like to use any one of over 100 other merchant accounts that are available.

Obtain
You need to obtain products to sell on your site. There are 5 main ways that people and businesses acquire products that are sold on their websites. On my own websites, I do a mixture of all of the below.
Buy items in bulk at wholesale prices and then resell for a profit.

Cons: Usually the setbacks for this method are that a) people with small home-based businesses do not have the capital required to make large enough purchases to make a high profit and b) there is not space enough to store these large purchases in a person’s home or small office.

Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Light Bulk Wholesale Directory” found at http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/light-bulk.asp
This directory is filled with companies who will sell you smaller bulk, still at a wholesale price. This allows for you to make a profit and have room for the items in your home or office before they sell.

Also, this same company offers the Market Research Wizard which is simply an amazing tool to use when deciding if a particular product will sell or not online. They offer a free trail version, so I urge you to test it out.
Market Research Wizard can be found here:

Use Dropshippers to fill their website with products.
Dropshippers are companies who will allow you to sell their products on your site and when a product sells, the customer pays you and you in turn place the order with the dropshipper and they ship the items directly to your customer. You can read more about dropshippers on the Dropshipping 101 website here: http://www.dropshipping101.com

Cons: People claiming to be dropshippers saturate the Internet offering to make you rich. These people are actually middlemen who will take your order and place it with the real dropshipper, keeping a portion of the money for themselves. These middlemen cut into your profits. One of the easiest ways to determine if they are a middleman is if they do not ask you for your Sales Tax Certificate. True wholesalers are required to obtain a resell permit from you before they can sell to you.

Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Dropship Source Directory” found here: http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/dropshipping.asp
This directory is filled with companies that will dropship, they require a tax certificate and will not charge you a fee for joining. The company that created this directory is very reputable, backed by the BBB Reliability Program and run by an honest group located in Orlando, Florida.
Also, be sure to get your Sales Tax Certificate. You can have the research for your business licenses completed for you here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/business_licenses.asp) or do it all yourself with a little help in the right direction here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/BusinessLicenses/General_Info.htm)

Join Affiliate Programs and place their products on your site

You can join the Affiliate Program of just about any company you can find online and promote the sales of their products. When you join the affiliate program, you are given a special link to their website that you place on your own site. When your website visitors click on these links, they are transported to the other companies website where they are free to purchase products. You make a commission on all sales. The difference between affiliate programs and using dropshippers is that with affiliate programs, you do not make the sale, collect the money, pack or ship anything. The main company handles everything. All you do is put the affiliate link on your site. With dropshippers, you sell the item, collect the money from the customer, put the order in with the dropshipper and then track to make sure the customer receives the item.

Cons: The only downside I’ve found to affiliate programs is that you need to occasionally check the links to make sure they still work. Sometimes a company will discontinue their program without informing the affiliates and you are left with dead links on your website. However, this is so few and far between that it shouldn’t even be listed as a con.

Solution: Here is a nifty tool that will check for dead links in any web page you enter.

Create and Sell your own physical products

The Internet has made it easy for anyone to create and sell their own products. Are you a woodsman who loves to make birdhouses? Can you make Barbie clothes? I believe everyone has something creative inside of them.

Cons: You are one person. You will be limited to your physical capabilities and time-constraints of each day.

Solution: Well, I think they are close to successful human cloning =)

Create and Sell your own digital products

Everyone and their brother is selling eBooks with resell rights on the Internet these days.

There is one eBook that they are NOT selling and NEVER will sell?

Which one?? The one that YOU create.

People selling 10,000 eBooks for $9.95 on eBay are not striking it rich. The ones with their own website, creating the products themselves are.
