Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a type of anxiety disorder, is a potentially disabling illness that traps people in endless cycles of repetitive thoughts and behaviors. People with OCD are plagued by recurring and distressing thoughts, fears or images (obsessions) that they cannot control. The anxiety (nervousness) produced by these thoughts leads to an urgent need to perform certain rituals or routines (compulsions). The compulsive rituals are performed in an attempt to prevent the obsessive thoughts or make them go away.
Although the ritual may make the anxiety go away temporarily, the person must perform the ritual again when the obsessive thoughts return. This OCD cycle can progress to the point of taking up hours of the person’s day and significantly interfering with normal activities. People with OCD may be aware that their obsessions and compulsions are senseless or unrealistic, but they cannot stop themselves.
What Are the Symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?
The symptoms of OCD, which are the obsessions and compulsions, may vary. Common obsessions include:
* Fear of dirt or contamination by germs.
* Fear of causing harm to another.
* Fear of making a mistake.
* Fear of being embarrassed or behaving in a socially unacceptable manner.
* Fear of thinking evil or sinful thoughts.
* Need for order, symmetry or exactness.
* Excessive doubt and the need for constant reassurance.
Common compulsions include:
* Repeatedly bathing, showering or washing hands.
* Refusing to shake hands or touch doorknobs.
* Repeatedly checking things, such as locks or stoves.
* Constant counting, mentally or aloud, while performing routine tasks.
* Constantly arranging things in a certain way.
* Eating foods in a specific order.
* Being stuck on words, images or thoughts, usually disturbing, that won’t go away and can interfere with sleep.
* Repeating specific words, phrases or prayers.
* Needing to perform tasks a certain number of times.
* Collecting or hoarding items with no apparent value.
What Causes Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?
Although the exact cause of OCD is not fully understood, studies have shown that a combination of biological and environmental factors may be involved.
Biological Factors: The brain is a very complex structure. It contains billions of nerve cells — called neurons — that must communicate and work together for the body to function normally. The neurons communicate via electrical signals. Special chemicals, called neurotransmitters, help move these electrical messages from neuron to neuron. Research has found a link between low levels of one neurotransmitter — called serotonin — and the development of OCD. In addition, there is evidence that a serotonin imbalance may be passed on from parents to children. This means the tendency to develop OCD may be inherited.
In addition, certain areas of the brain appear to be affected by the serotonin imbalance that leads to OCD. This problem seems to involve the pathways of the brain that link the area of the brain that deals with judgment and planning, and the area of the brain that filters messages involving body movements.
Studies also have found a link between a certain type of infection caused by the Streptococcus bacteria and OCD. This infection, if recurrent and untreated, may lead to the development of OCD and other disorders in children.
Environmental Factors: There are environmental stressors that can trigger OCD in people with a tendency toward developing the condition. Certain environmental factors may also cause a worsening of symptoms. These factors include:
* Abuse
* Changes in living situation
* Illness
* Death of a loved one
* Work- or school-related changes or problems
* Relationship concerns
How Common Is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?
OCD afflicts about 3.3 million adults and about 1 million children and adolescents in the U.S. The disorder usually first appears in childhood, adolescence or early adulthood. It occurs about equally in men and women and affects people of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds.
How Is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Diagnosed?
There is no laboratory test to diagnose OCD. The doctor bases his or her diagnosis on an assessment of the patient’s symptoms, including how much time the person spends performing his or her ritual behaviors.
How Is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Treated?
OCD will not go away by itself, so it is important to seek treatment. The most effective approach to treating OCD combines medications with cognitive-behavior therapy.
* Cognitive-behavior therapy: The goal of cognitive-behavior therapy is to teach people with OCD to confront their fears and reduce anxiety without performing the ritual behaviors. It also focuses on reducing the exaggerated or catastrophic thinking that often occurs in people with OCD.
* Medication therapy: Tricyclic antidepressants, such as Anafranil, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants, such as Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft may be helpful in treating OCD.
In severe cases of OCD and in people who do not respond to medical and behavioral therapy, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or surgery may be used to treat OCD. During ECT, electrodes are attached to the patient’s head, and a series of electric shocks are delivered to the brain, which induce seizures. The seizures cause the release of neurotransmitters in the brain.
A surgical procedure called bilateral cingulotomy interrupts the pathway of the brain involved in the development of OCD. With the pathway disrupted, OCD symptoms should stop. This procedure also may be done using stereotactic radiosurgery, also called a Gamma Knife. The Gamma Knife is a non-surgical machine that emits hundreds of powerful, highly focused gamma radiation beams aimed at the area of the brain where the problem is located.
What Is the Outlook for People With Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?
In most cases, OCD can be successfully treated with medication, cognitive-behavior therapy or both. With ongoing treatment, most people can achieve long-term relief from symptoms and return to normal or near-normal functioning.
Can Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Be Prevented?
OCD cannot be prevented. However, early diagnosis and treatment can help reduce the time a person spends suffering from the condition.

Is It Fake Or Is It Rolex?
Is it fake or is it Rolex? How will you know? Watches are sold every single day online that look like Rolexes, sound like Rolexes, and even have movement that looks very much like Rolex movement. But how will you know for sure?
There are predators out there right now that will RIP YOU OFF and not even think twice about it. What’s even more scarry are the nice people selling watches that they actually think are Rolexes. If you are going to buy a Rolex, do yourself a huge favor and protect yourself against fraud. You NEED to know what it is your buying. Is it fake or is it Rolex?
Before you spend thousands of dollars on a Rolex you must learn how to identify a real Rolex from a fake. Not only will this potentially save you a ton of money it’s also alot of fun to learn. I found an amazing resource on Rolex watches that you can get online right now. It’s not free, it will cost you $19.99, but the information is priceless if you are in the market for a Rolex.
Go now and buy this ebook. You can buy the Rolex ebook here.
Now for the next step in your purchase, where to buy your Rolex. You can go to your local retailer. This is the safest way, but it’s also the most expensive. When I bought my Rolex, here in California, the dealer would not negotiate at all. This is the price, you want it or not?
I just sold my Rolex on eBay, and im buying my next one on eBay. The reason im going to buy my next Rolex on eBay is bacause with their feedback system I can be 99% sure that the person I buy my Rolex from can be trusted. I will find a dealer that has previous feedback from other Rolexes he has sold. This way I know im dealing with someone in the know.
The second reason I’m buying my next rolex on eBay is because I will save a couple thousand dollars on it. There are dealers on eBay that sell used Rolexes for close to half of the price of a new one. From personal experience I can tell you that Rolexes are near indistructable. I had mine for 3 years and i banged that thing into door knobs, door mouldings, desk drawers, you name it. Of course I never banged my watch on anything on purpose, just in the course of everyday life i’d catch it on this and that.
When you buy your Rolex look for one that has as many of the origional papers with it as you can. I had all the origional papers for mine and i got about an extra $400 out of mine just because I had them.
Below are a few current auctions from eBay. I look at these everyday looking for my next watch and I encurage you to bookmark this page right now so you can keep an eye on current auctions also.
If you have any questions about Rolexes I encourage you to email me at Aaron@e-bookdepository.com. I enjoy talking about rolexes so please drop email me if you are buying or selling or just want to talk about watches. Just be sure to tell me in your email where you got my email address =). Talk to ya soon.

According to Mazda, who is also known as great manufacturers of replacement Mazda B26 pickup parts and Mazda GLC parts, the two new vehicles that they would soon be sending out for the public to feast on comprise of the Mazda Demio and the Mazda Axela Sport. Both also are known to be a new member of the Stylish Tone Series. For those who have no background on the Stylish Tone Series, this is actually a range of Mazda products which come with a new and enhanced style and also offer the market with chic and new color hues.
The Mazda Demio Style C is much known in other markets as the Mazda2. It has been actually based on the Demio Casual. For this one, it has got more style and also gives more comfort. Customers could purchase this vehicle and opt to have the Icy Blue Metallic as its body color. In fact, if you choose such a hue, the interior of the Mazda Demio Style C would be coming with light blue highlights.
The Mazda Axela is known as the Mazda3 in other markets. For this new one, the market would be drooling over chrome outer door handles as well as genuine leather seats. The door also holds leather trims which come in a combination of black and sandy beige.
As per the Mazda Demio Style S, one can get leather wrapped steering wheels and shift knobs. The vehicle also comes with an advanced keyless entry and also is proud to own six speakers.

Top Considerations For A Bathroom Redesign
Once you?ve decided it?s time to remodel the bathroom, it?s tempting to rush out to a bathroom showroom and buy your dream fixtures, but that approach will lead to remodel hassles and a busted wallet. With a few key considerations, you can turn your bathroom redesign into a faster, less costly affair with more pleasing results.
1.Style ?Your bathroom should match both the style of your home and your taste. A grand Victorian bathroom would look out of place in a ranch-style house and a Tudor manse is not the place for a space age shower. You could include a fancy showerhead panel though. When in doubt, go with classic styles and clean lines and choose inviting colors that will continue to be popular years from now, but which also suit your tastes.
2.Space ? Some people are fortunate to have vast bathrooms. Others must contend with tiny spaces wedged in as an afterthought. Knowing your space limitations from the beginning gives you a better idea of what?s feasible. You don?t want to end up with an oversized tub you have to step in to get to the toilet.
3.Layout ? Some remodels can make a bathroom worse. If a room is poorly laid out to begin with, simply replacing the fixtures with today?s larger models could make the room more cramped. Before you start, consider how you use the bathroom, especially whether you need a separate shower and tub and a one-sink or two-sink vanity. You may find that your needs and wants are different and can adjust your goals accordingly.
4.Lighting ? Ever tried to shave or apply makeup with a single overhead bulb? Recessed lighting is popular in modern bathrooms, but you should also install ample light over the shower and vanity. Adding light isn?t enough, though. You should also compare the light fixtures to the paint color. Yellow-tinged light bulbs and blue paint could result in your skin looking very green. Aim for a combination that produces natural light.
5.Maintenance ? No one enjoys cleaning the bathroom. Choose surfaces and fixtures that resist stains, mold, and water marks to make maintenance less frequent and cleaning easier.
Keep Your Bathroom Remodel on a Budget
You?ve heard the horror stories about bathroom redesigns that ballooned in time and budget. Don?t fear - it?s possible to hold to a budget by following a few simple tips:
1.Select all your major pieces at the same time. Buying your tub, vanity, sink, and toilet together will ensure that they match. You can then find faucets, showerheads, and other items that accent the major pieces.
2.Shop early and stick with your choices. Nothing blows a budget faster than changing your mind about the vanity two days before it?s due to be installed.
3.Skip the trendy gadgets. An aromatherapy showerhead may sound cool, but how often will you really use it? Bathroom trends quickly change. You can?t go wrong with a showerhead that?s remained popular for years.
Quality Bathroom Fixtures for the Long-Term
If you?re near your budget limit, you might be tempted to skimp on the small stuff like faucet knobs, medicine cabinets, or toilet paper holders. Don?t do it. Cheap bathroom fixtures wear out quickly and the cost of replacing them adds up. Spend a few extra dollars to get quality fixtures that will last for years with minimal maintenance.
A bathroom redesign is a daunting task, but a little thought and careful planning keeps it from being overwhelming.

Office Chairs and Ergonomics - Looks Can Be Deceiving
As I walked into the office warehouse, I was shocked at the number of task office chairs lined up, but even more amazed at how similar in appearance they all seemed, even from up close. With tilt mechanism levers, seat height adjustments features, knobs, levers, etc., they all still looked like a basic seat, seat back, arms and rolling caster wheels. That is until I actually sat down on a few and realized why some chairs do not exactly scream out ? Sit on this ?.
That day I compared many different task chairs and started to separate them out into groups in order to arrange them by features, mechanisms and colors. Having worked in the office industry for many years now, I was used to having to actually ?get down to the basics? of an office chair because while they all may look alike, looks can be deceiving. We were currently liquidating an office that was closing and consigning the furniture online for the owners and I marveled at the differences once seated in these chairs.
For example, I took 4 Herman Miller Task Chairs that were up for sale and wrote up a bio on each and of course, took a seat. One of the models was the exact chair that I currently am sitting in at my current workspace and while coincidental, was of course my favorite seat on the warehouse. It was little different in appearance from the other three task seats sitting next to it. All four chairs were upholstered in Burgundy cotton fabric with adjustable arms and rolling casters. All had three levers and a tension knob and although slightly different, looked relatively the same.
However, all of these levers came with a different purpose and it was up to the user to determine which features best suited his or her needs. The everyday medical technician has different ergonomic needs than the average computer programmer and the same can be said for the body positions needed for different tasks and work situations.
For me, spending far too many hours in front of the computer per day and typing away, I require a chair with a very relaxed tilt mechanism that moves with my body, allowing the seat back to move independently from the seat itself and keeping my feet firmly on the floor.
This type of chair with the height adjustments needed for me to be comfortable was perfect in reminding me to keep good posture, which is key for good ergonomics and long-term body health. It is essential to keep in mind that an office chair cannot help you to keep your body healthy, no matter how high end, it is your body that needs to sit properly in order to stay healthy and keep your muscles and back from aching.
For other professions where the positioning is changing constantly throughout the day and mobility is necessary, this may not be the correct chair. When picking your new task office chair, make sure that you consider what you will be using it for the most and for which tasks in order to make sure to get a chair that will fit your comfort ability and enable you to be healthy and productive in the workplace.

A rabbi, a priest and a pastor were all in a boat together fishing.
The pastor said to the others, ?I think I am going to go over to that
shore and sit down.? So he gets out of the boat, walks across the
water and sits down on the shore.
Then, the priest says to the rabbi, ?I think I am going to go over and
join him.? So, he does the same as the pastor and sits next to him on
the shore.
The rabbi thinks to himself, ?well if they can do it, so can I? He
climbs out of the boat, but he falls right down in the water.
The pastor says to the priest, ?do you think we should of told him

Stain Removal Tips
In past issue we covered most stain removal tips. If your new
to Grandma?s News letter, check out some of the past issues.
Mix 50-50 water, white vinegar. Great for stubborn carpet stains.
Wood Furniture; To remove water stains, dab white toothpaste onto the
stain. Allow the paste to dry and then gently buff with a soft cloth
Cleaner: Mix a few drops of tea-tree oil in a spray bottle. Add
2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons dishwashing liquid. This will create
a pleasant-smelling, general-purpose cleaner.
Sanitize Counter, fridge handle, door knobs. Put white vinegar in
one spray bootle, and hydrogen peroxide in another. Spray surface
with one, then the other and wipe. Doesn?t matter which spray you
use first, but do keep them in separate bottles.
RESPONSIBLE DRINKING
If you have teenagers, or in fact any adult, impress on them the
risks of driving while intoxicated. Statistics demonstrate drunk
drivers cause many fatal road accidents.
It should be known that like any other drug, addiction is a
potential hazard. Excess of alcohol will effect organs such as
the brain, heart, and liver.

Spring Customs Around the World
As spring reaches those of us in the Northern hemisphere, the world is beginning anew. The spring rains are bringing forth new growth all around us, and the temperature is finally creeping warmer virtually every day. It’s no wonder, then, that Spring is considered to be a prime time for celebration throughout the world.
This time of year brings the Chinese celebration of Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese Lunar New Year. Chinese people often put up long rolls of red paper with black writing and pictures of fierce-looking creatures on either side of their front door. The red paper rolls usually contain lines of poetry transcribed by a calligrapher and the Gods Shen Tu and Yu Lei, who are believed to protect people from devils and evil spirits
The spring Pakistani festival of Basant is held in the ancient eastern city of Lahore. This festival is marked by a litany of kite-flying, rooftop soirees, garden parties and equestrian events. Locals and tourists alike don glamorous clothes, in the yellow and green of spring flowers blooming citywide, to bid farewell to the frosts and fogs of winter and usher in spring.
The Vernal Equinox is considered one of the most important days of spring, as it marks the first day of spring when day and night are each approximately 12 hours in length. However, as the month of April draws to a close and winter is falling further and further away, the joy of May Day (May 1st) is celebrated in many different ways.
In Germany, the celebration of Walpurgisnacht on April 30th and May 1st celebrates the release of winter’s hold on the land and the oncoming joy of summer. Children celebrate in a similar fashion to Halloween, playing pranks on unsuspecting victims as midnight draws near. Many people hold witches’ fires to ward off the evil spirits of winter. And on May 1st, it is believed that the earth spirits like sprites and fairies emerge to bring the land safely to summer. People celebrate with great feasts of food and drink as the look forward to the coming of summer.
chocolate easter egg basketDuring the times of ancient Rome, spring was f?ted with the Feast of Floralia. This celebration marked the flowering of the grains and the bounty of the animals as spring continued. It’s actually believed that the egg became an important symbol during this time period, as it noted both the egg that brought forth life and the egg that nourished people. As this festival evolved, people began creating eggs out of many materials, including chocolate, as gifts for their loved ones. Young matrons carried these eggs with them in baskets throughout the Spring, trying to determine the possible gender of a future child.
In the British Isles, many people celebrate the Festival of Beltane on May Day. Lighting fires was customary at this time, and traditionally a Beltane fire (very similar to the witches’ fires of Germany) was composed of the nine sacred woods of the Celts. When daylight comes, people celebrate by dancing and singing around a maypole tied with colorful streamers or ribbons.
May Day never was celebrated as much in the United States as it is in Great Britain because of the Puritans’ discouragement of the day as a pagan holiday. However, many American communities still celebrate this time with May queens and the hanging of May baskets filled with flowers and chocolates on the doorknobs of friends and family.
cherry blossoms washington d.c.
One spring ritual that always graces the news in the United States is the blooming of the cherry trees in Washington D.C. These beautiful trees that line the Tidal Basin in the capital of the United States were a gift from Japan over 100 years ago and bloom every spring and bring with them a site that every American should see at least once, a sweet smell to the air that not even modern pollution can dim, and a warmth of the knowledge that spring has indeed arrived. The blooming of these trees is always eagerly awaited by both locals and tourists alike, and the few benches along the route are often taken in the wee hours of the morning by sightseers waking up with a bit of coffee or hot chocolate from a vending cart.

Detecting Metals in Water
In general, larger searchcoils will give better depth with larger targets and
better ground coverage. However, sensitivity to smaller objects may be
sacrificed. Smaller searchcoils will offer greater sensitivity to smaller objects
and improved target separation in trashy soil. Be it out of sheer hobby or
more on the professional level, you really would not perform well treasure
hunting if you do not have a good metal detector to explore with.
There are many different kinds and styles of metal detectors - gold
detectors, coin and jewel detectors, beach-hunting detectors,
underwater metal detectors, handheld and walk through metal detectors
In 1881, Alexander Graham Bell constructed one of the world??s first metal
detectors in an attempt to find an assassin’s bullet in President James
Garfield. Fischer patented a portable version in 1931.
Detecting Metals in Water
Many people are involved in metal detection underwater. Most of these
people would prefer to hunt metals on beaches. There are many benefits
that one can get from detecting metals in beaches. Most of the people
go on these types of metal detecting trips not because they are after the
elusive treasures, but because of the relaxation that it gives. Well,
perhaps the treasure is the ultimate reason why they do this, but what
keeps them coming back is the experience itself. Going on a water
detecting trip to the beach is one of the most relaxing activities since the
beach offers sights and sounds that no other place can offer. The waves,
the birds, the sand and the people, what more can you ask for? Treasure,
perhaps.
So what does one need to do to be able to make his metal detecting trip
to the beach a worthwhile one? Here are some ideas.
1. Get the right equipment
Taking an ordinary metal detector to a beach (water) metal detecting trip
is probably not a very good idea. If you plan to do this activity for a long
period of time, it would be best to get the appropriate equipment for the
job. There are many models today that offer water-proof features and
can read through water and sand better than other models.
Metal detectors using PI (Pulse Induction) technology often makes use of
a single coil or even a series of coils that works as a receiver and the
transmitter. The short bursts of electricity are allowed to pass through a
coil or wire which causes magnetism. ome detectors have more ways of
adjusting the “fit” to the person. Some of the other ways that detectors
adjust are that the arm cup can be raised or lowered, and the box
containing the board and controls can be taken off of the pole and
mounted in a small pouch. Many people say to us “I have always wanted
to do this!”
Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a
great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts
with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector
should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting
at detect-metal.info.
Any place that someone would spread a towel would be a spot to loose
something in the sand. Change could fall out of a pocket when getting in
or out of a car. Where ever a concession stand might have been is a good
area to search. Look for places that people might have gone after dark for
a romantic interlude. A good time to check out the beaches is after a
large storm.
Youve got to buy a metal detector that could withstand normal wear and
tear longer than its competitors. The longer the metal detector can serve
you, the better your return on investment will be. For walking speed,
remember the paint rollerr analogy above. As long as you are painting the
entire surface of the ground and not missing any spots, you are not
walking too quickly. However, if you find that your imaginary paint is
missing areas, you need to slow down your pace.
2. Plan your trip
Planning a water detecting trip at the beach is an important factor which
can determine your success and can influence your experience in general.
Beaches are very busy during weekends and it is perhaps not a very good
idea to detect metals during these times. You will want to go treasure
hunting on week days if you can because there are not as many activities
going on at the beach. This will give you more space to roam around.
3. Spot the other beaches
Find out more about metal detectors at metal detector info site. If there
are beaches in the periphery which are not as popular as the other
beaches, try them out! There’s no harm in doing so, and arguably, the
chance of finding good stuff there is higher.
4. Get a map
Purchase any map that lays out the entire beach frontier. Try to map out
your directions and mark the spots where you have been; this is especially
helpful for people who do not have a good sense of directions.
5. Make sure you don’t leave your marks
Cover your holes so people don’t get injured and the beach doesn’t look
messy. These are just some ideas on detecting metals in the water. Try
to enjoy the experience and you’ll find it a treasure in itself. When hand-
held detectors are switched on, a red signal pattern in transmitted from
the coil to the ground. When the signal comes in contact with a metal, it
interrupts the signal and the detector alerts the user with an audio signal
and flashing lights.
It is responsible for receiving frequencies that bounce back from the
object that the coil detects. This type of detector is best for identifying
different types of metals.
Some users put a rubber band around the knobs to keep them from
moving or becoming loose. You should buy a metal detector that is light
weight. This is important when you are detecting things on a riverbank or
body of water. Most metal detector companies also offer supplementary
services like designing, material sourcing, prototyping, short run
manufacturing, upgrading or re-designing, assembly services and specialty
packaging.

Business Directories, T-Shirts and More: Unconventional Marketing Tips
One of the key ingredients for the success of a business is a strong marketing strategy. Unfortunately, in today’s world, marketing is a lot more difficult than it used to be. Many companies may realize that after a while, traditional marketing strategies are not effective for their business. These companies may want to consider unconventional marketing strategies. Following these few unconventional marketing tips could potentially jumpstart your business.
1. Get listings in business directories on the Web. This may seem obscure, but business directories on the web can help direct consumers to many businesses. Additionally, web sites are listed in categories and therefore associated with other businesses in the same category. Association with other sites in a niche can help draw visitors. These business directories can also help a web sites search ranking (because of the links to the business site). The higher a site is ranked, the more potential customers will visit.
2. Publicity stunts are great. “Publicity stunt” has been given a bad image by some, but this marketing technique can do wonders. Doing something that no one has ever done before and using the platform to market a business or product is ingenious. Publicity stunts can be very effective when they are creative enough and draw large crowds. Naturally, be careful that it is not too obvious of a publicity stunt, because it can backfire.
3. Make t-shirts for anyone and everyone! Making a cool t-shirt with the company logo is very effective advertising. When people see a t-shirt with a new company on it, or a word they have never seen before, they are likely to investigate further. Designing an interesting t-shirt is a must for this marketing strategy to work. Sell or give the t-shirt to your friends, family, and anyone else who wants them. People wearing the t-shirt become walking, talking billboards. That’s high quality advertising for a low price.
4. Door-hangers on doorknobs are great for specific areas. New restaurants often generate a large amount of traffic from putting ads on doorknobs. Most people look at their doorknobs and will subsequently notice your business. It is a great way to generate word of mouth in a new community that you are targeting.
5. Purchase word-of-mouth advertising. While a door-hanger can generate word-of-mouth, one way to guarantee discussion is to pay someone to walk around town talking about a specific business or product. This person is lively and will tell everyone about a new business. It may seem odd to think of some guy standing in an elevator saying “Have you been to the new store on Main Street?” but the results are very real. Word-of-mouth is how many companies grow, so why not jump start word-of-mouth about your business?

How To Guarantee Yourself Profits When Buying Investment Properties
Are you interested in finding out how to make a healthy profit every time that you buy a piece of investment property? Well you are not alone, as almost every real estate investor is looking for the same thing. And there are lots of ways to make profits by buying investment real estate, but let’s discuss one of the most important ways to lock in healthy profits as you buy your investment properties.
If your main interest is in rehabing properties, then most of your profit will actually be made when you buy the property instead of when you sell it. This may sound like an odd statement, but successful real estate investors know that buying the right property at the right price is the most important ingredients toward locking in future profits.
So that means that you have to look for investment properties that are going to make you the most money, rather than just buying whatever seems to be available at the time. The most profitable rehab properties tend to be those that look or appeared to be run down, and needing an awful lot of work. But the vast majority of the word needed is mainly cosmetic, not structural.
So when looking for a real estate property for investment, here are some things that you should be looking for.
1. Houses that need a good paint job on the outside can be a good candidate for investment. The curb appeal, or outside appearance, of a house can play a large part in how buyers value a home. So a house that has cracked and peeling paint that is faded and dirty will often appear to be more run down than it really is. A new paint job would only cost a few hundred dollars though, making it a very cost-effective investment.
2. Very often, if the paint has been neglected, the yard and landscaping most likely has gone without any attention for a while too. This is another very easy and relatively inexpensive situation to remedy. Quick landscaping upgrades can include seeding the lawn, trimming the grass, hedges and bushes, trimming the trees, and adding a few more flowers and bushes for eye appeal.
3. Inside the home, areas of the house that tend to bring more results for the investment dollar spent there is the kitchen and bathroom. Look for houses where these rooms appear to be old and outdated. Again, a few simple and inexpensive investments here can change the entire appearance of both the kitchen and bathroom. Perhaps refacing the kitchen cabinets, changing out the hardware on cabinets including knobs and hinges, replacing the faucets, installing outdated lighting fixtures, changing the tile to reflect more modern tastes, and so on, can totally change the appearance of these rooms with very little outlay of money on your part.
Hopefully, you are starting to get the idea of what you should be looking for when buying an investment property. By staying away from major structural damage such as a bad roof or foundation problems, and focusing instead on cosmetic changes that can be made easily and relatively inexpensively, you can lock in healthy profits every time that you buy an investment property.

The 3 things you need to do to have a successful online business
The P O P Method of Success by Natalie Williams http://www.SmallHostingPlans.com
There are 3 main things you need to do in order to be successful with an online business.
Prepare, Obtain & Promote
Prepare You need to prepare and establish a website. This includes a domain name, hosting account, website pages , a shopping cart and a merchant account. When you sign up with Small Hosting Plans, you receive a domain name for 2 years, website template, and a shopping cart that is already enabled to accept PayPal as your merchant account and Checks. You are also able to upgrade the cart if you would like to use any one of over 100 other merchant accounts that are available.
Obtain You need to obtain products to sell on your site. There are 5 main ways that people and businesses acquire products that are sold on their websites. On my own websites, I do a mixture of all of the below. Buy items in bulk at wholesale prices and then resell for a profit.
Cons: Usually the setbacks for this method are that a) people with small home-based businesses do not have the capital required to make large enough purchases to make a high profit and b) there is not space enough to store these large purchases in a person’s home or small office.
Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Light Bulk Wholesale Directory” found at http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/light-bulk.asp This directory is filled with companies who will sell you smaller bulk, still at a wholesale price. This allows for you to make a profit and have room for the items in your home or office before they sell.
Also, this same company offers the Market Research Wizard which is simply an amazing tool to use when deciding if a particular product will sell or not online. They offer a free trail version, so I urge you to test it out. Market Research Wizard can be found here: http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/marketwizard.asp
Use Dropshippers to fill their website with products. Dropshippers are companies who will allow you to sell their products on your site and when a product sells, the customer pays you and you in turn place the order with the dropshipper and they ship the items directly to your customer. You can read more about dropshippers on the Dropshipping 101 website here: http://www.dropshipping101.com
Cons: People claiming to be dropshippers saturate the Internet offering to make you rich. These people are actually middlemen who will take your order and place it with the real dropshipper, keeping a portion of the money for themselves. These middlemen cut into your profits. One of the easiest ways to determine if they are a middleman is if they do not ask you for your Sales Tax Certificate. True wholesalers are required to obtain a resell permit from you before they can sell to you.
Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Dropship Source Directory” found here: http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/dropshipping.asp This directory is filled with companies that will dropship, they require a tax certificate and will not charge you a fee for joining. The company that created this directory is very reputable, backed by the BBB Reliability Program and run by an honest group located in Orlando, Florida. Also, be sure to get your Sales Tax Certificate. You can have the research for your business licenses completed for you here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/business_licenses.asp) or do it all yourself with a little help in the right direction here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/BusinessLicenses/General_Info.htm)
Join Affiliate Programs and place their products on your site
You can join the Affiliate Program of just about any company you can find online and promote the sales of their products. When you join the affiliate program, you are given a special link to their website that you place on your own site. When your website visitors click on these links, they are transported to the other companies website where they are free to purchase products. You make a commission on all sales. The difference between affiliate programs and using dropshippers is that with affiliate programs, you do not make the sale, collect the money, pack or ship anything. The main company handles everything. All you do is put the affiliate link on your site. With dropshippers, you sell the item, collect the money from the customer, put the order in with the dropshipper and then track to make sure the customer receives the item.
Cons: The only downside I’ve found to affiliate programs is that you need to occasionally check the links to make sure they still work. Sometimes a company will discontinue their program without informing the affiliates and you are left with dead links on your website. However, this is so few and far between that it shouldn’t even be listed as a con.
Solution: Here is a nifty tool that will check for dead links in any web page you enter. http://www.stickysauce.com/cgi-local/linkcheck/linkcheck.pl
Create and Sell your own physical products
The Internet has made it easy for anyone to create and sell their own products. Are you a woodsman who loves to make birdhouses? Can you make Barbie clothes? I believe everyone has something creative inside of them.
Cons: You are one person. You will be limited to your physical capabilities and time-constraints of each day.
Solution: Well, I think they are close to successful human cloning =)
Create and Sell your own digital products
Everyone and their brother is selling eBooks with resell rights on the Internet these days.
There is one eBook that they are NOT selling and NEVER will sell?
Which one?? The one that YOU create.
People selling 10,000 eBooks for $9.95 on eBay are not striking it rich. The ones with their own website, creating the products themselves are. Marlon Sanders, Yanik Silver, Rosalind Gardner to name a few. These people discovered early on the right way to own a business. The next time you see a digital product and you think about buying it, think instead how you could create it yourself. (Or one darn close to it). If you are like most people, you think you have nothing to write about or don’t have the skills for creating. Wrong! I know a woman who was a DJ for her young adult life, but then relied on her wealthy husband to take care of her for many years. She has NO business experience. The time came when suddenly she had to make it on her own. She thought ‘What am I going to do with no other skills but DJ’ing?”. She wrote an eBook about DJ’ing, setting up for parties, the best lists of music to play at certain gigs, etc. She’s not a millionaire, but she’s done very well for herself.
Cons: You probably still don’t believe you can do it so you will brush this topic off.
Solution: I am going to GIVE YOU a bonus right here and now that will help you achieve the above. It’s called the Extreme eBook Creations package. It contains some eBooks you need to read, plus there is an eBook Creator Program yours for free. You can collect your bonus here. http://www.cidicon.com/mydigitalproducts/ebookcreator/retrieve-products.htm
Promote Now that you have your site all ready, millions of people will visit and you’ll be rich overnight. Wrong again. If you build it, they will NOT come. In fact, not only will they not come, it sometimes seems like they go out of there way to stay away. Getting people to your website can be the most stressful, time-consuming, money-eating part of owning a website. But it doesn’t have to break you. There are two ways to get people to your site. 1) Pay a load of money out to blast announcements all over the place 2) Spend the time to promote it yourself in free and almost-free ways. It always amazes me that someone will pay $10,000 to have a website built for them when they can have one made for so much less (or make it themselves) and then spend that money on the advertising. That is where your budget should be. Now I am not saying skimp and have a terrible site made. There IS a happy medium where you can have a professional, functional website without breaking the bank. So what are these free and almost-free ways to promote?
Post on message boards. There is this one particular message board I am on all the time. I just answer questions and use my website link in my signature line and you wouldn’t believe how much business I get from doing that. I posted a message almost a year ago with my opinion on a particular online program that is popular and I STILL get emails to this day asking me more and they usually end up buying something from me. Search on Google (http://www.google.com) for Message Boards along the topic of your website. For instance, if my website is about helping people work from home, I will look for message boards that have to do with “work from home moms”.
Become an eBay seller. It doesn’t matter what you sell on eBay, you can use your listings as a traffic driving tool. What you do is create a custom ‘About Me’ page on the eBay account. They give this page for free with every account. Then in every listing, place big links getting people to visit your ‘About Me’ page which will contain links to your website(s). My server logs show that the largest amount of traffic I receive to my website is through my ‘About Me’ page. If there is a month when I post just a few auctions, then I can guarantee you my websites sales are way down.

Look for websites and newsletters that compliment your website and offer to trade links or articles. Browse Newsletters here: http://pertinent.com/newsletters/
Write articles yourself and submit them to the appropriate websites. So your article (with your name and web address) is seen by thousands. Browse Articles and Submit your own here: http://www.goarticles.com
Write eBooks and do the same as above. Here is a search on Google for “Submit Your eBook”. http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=active&q=%22submit+your+eBook Go through the websites and submit your free eBook everywhere that will take it. Freebie mentioned above: Extreme eBook Creations http://www.cidicon.com/mydigitalproducts/ebookcreator/retrieve-products.htm
Offer freebies on your site in exchange for the persons name and email address. It’s very important to get a subscriber list going. You don’t want to keep trying to get new customers everyday forever. If you come out with a new product, you will have your current customers to offer the product to first. What freebies should you offer? An eBook, a report, really anything that may be of interest to the types of visitors you receive.
Free Subscriber List http://www.GetResponse.com/index/66513
Products you can use for freebies http://www.MyDigitalProducts.com
Google AdWords. You apply for an account and then create little ads that appear to the right of the Google Search results and on other people’s websites that use the keywords you choose. You determine how much you will pay per click and what your monthly budget will be so you are always in control of how much money you are spending on this advertising. Google AdWords http://www.google.com/adwords
There are a few more things you can do to generate income from your websites. Google Ad Sense. You apply for an account and if they accept you (they DO turn people down), you can place some code on your website so that Google Ads will appear on your site. When your website visitors click these ads, you get money for every click. Due to the terms of agreement for their program, I cannot discuss how much I make from their ads, but I will tell you it’s more than I thought I would and I am pleasantly surprised and happy every day. Google AdSense https://www.google.com/adsense
Place ads in your local newspaper about your product with your website address
Get free business cards from Vista Print and leave them around town. I place one of these in every single package I ship out for things I sell on eBay. I also ordered mailing labels but with just my business name and website address on them and I use them to close envelopes that I mail out. http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=26298982&siteid=40122106&bfpage=text_link_5
If you’re really in shape and have the stamina, create advertising doorknob hangers on your computer and walk around, hanging them on doorknobs. http://www.aimforlove.com/shp/doorknob_hanger_example.htm
What is your site about? What is your product? You could probably convince stores to let you leave brochures or flyers about. For example, I began a secretarial service many years ago. I was allowed to leave my brochures on the counter of a computer repair shop. I received many customers this way and to this very day, I still have 2 great clients for who I perform secretarial duties from my home. The income from those 2 clients alone is enough to make me happy to stay home.

Attention To Details Helps Homeowners Sell Fast In A Buyers Market
Attention To Details Helps Homeowners Sell Fast In A Buyers Market
by: W. Troy Swezey
Your boss has just given you the career opportunity of a lifetime, but the job is in another state.
Soon you discover that moving your family to another city may be one of lifes hardest tasks. The thought of leaving behind old friends and schools for a strange town can be frightening. The biggest challenge of all, however, it to preserve the equity in your housing investment so you will be able to purchase a similar home in the new location.
Not to worry. Even in these uncertain times homeowners can sell at very satisfactory prices in a reasonable period of time. The secret? Pay attention to details, utilize marketing savvy and price the home to sell quickly.
The following tips can help you get that sold sign up fast.
SELECT A SAVVY REAL ESTATE AGENTone with a successful track record in your neighborhood, backed by resources that extend into outside housing markets. Make sure the agent prepares an effective listing of your property on that outlines all the features that make your home unique. Also, its smart to prepare a separate fact sheet that can be distributed freely to all interested buyers. In soft time, offering the agent a bonus if the house sells within 60 days can work to the homeowners advantage.
OFFER THE RIGHT PRICE. Start with a price that is reasonable for your neighborhood and the size of your home. Comparing the price of your home with similar nearby listings is an easy way to be sure you are offering the right price. Comparing the opinions of two independent appraisers will also help you avoid over-pricing.
PAY PART OF THE CLOSING COSTSusually 3 to 5 percent of the loan amount. This will attract those first-time buyers who are short on cash for down-payment and closing costs. Offering to turn over personal property such as washing machines and dryers, refrigerators and flower boxes can also attract buyers looking for the best deal.
ACCEPT CONTINGENCY AGREEMENTS. Make your sale contingent upon the sale of the buyers home. This takes away buyers fears of juggling two properties and mortgages at the same time.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CORPORATE RELOCATION TRADE. Be sure that your broker is connected to a relocation network one capable of brining in buyers from distant places. And, of course, try to get your employer to provide you with relocation assistance, too.
MAKE YOUR HOME STAND OUT. Fresh paint and flowers can go a long way in impressing buyers. Tend to such details as moving the lawn, fixing stubborn door knobs and sliding doors, and straightening up the basement. Remember, your homes appearance on the day its shown can make or break a sale.
The bottom line is that sellers should take the time to make their home as attractive as possible. Compiling helpful tips for the buyer about school districts, utility bills and directions to the nearest shopping mall can go a long way in selling your house quickly.
With a little work and an active real estate agent, chances are good that your house will sell fast in todays buyers market.

Is Satellite Radio For You?
Well if you like to listen to music the answer is yes!
But you probably already have a radio that works quite nicely and are wondering why you might want to switch, right?
Satellite radio is a paid subscription - it works via a satellite feed so you can listen to the radio anywhere you want and there is no range restrictions so your favorite song won’t become garbled with static as you drive down the road out of range.
It works like satellite television, except it can travel with you. A satellite radio can go in your home, your car or you can carry it around with you. It provides crystal clear digital sound no matter where you are and is commercial free.
Satellite radio can really open up the range and choices of music. With satellite radio subscriptions, you typically have access to several music channels, which reach all genres and subgenres of music. The best providers will also provide you dozens of channels for the latest news, talk radio, and information, along with local traffic and weather forecasts and all the sports events you could want.
XM Radio is rapidly growing and services over 2 million listeners providing 68 music channels. With this satellite radio, you can get country, rap, classical, bluegrass, rock, reggae and most anything else you can imagine. IN addition, there are over 30 channels just for news , sports, talks shows and other entertainment programs that don’t include music. And if that’s not enough there is another couple of dozen channels that provide weather and traffic for most major cities.
If you want satellite radio you will need a reciever and antennae to pick up the satellite feed. This equipment is state of the art, and the best subscription services also offer AM and FM as well as CD accessibility. Satellite radio can be set up to work with your existing home entertainment system, in your car or as a portable that you can bring with you.
Some of the new satellite radios and receivers are quite small and lightweight and good for carrying around. All satellite receivers will conveniently display the channel, song title, and artist name. If it’s a sporting event, they abbreviations for each team will be shown so you can find that game you are looking for instantly instead of having to wait until the announcer mentions one of the teams.
Of course, satellite radio is perfect for listening to in the car since you won’t have to fiddle with tuning knobs or try to find a new station as you drive out or range of what you are listening. Coneniently, many new cars are coming equipped with satellite radio service and even offer it free for 30 days. Don’t worry, though if you don’t want to pay for the service after your trial is up, your radio receiver will still work with the usual AM and FM channels.

How To Setup A P.A.
Before I explain how to setup a P.A. let me first say that before you buy a P.A. make sure that it is the one you want and when you do buy it make sure that it comes with all the manuals, instructions and warranty. Another thing to note is that if you are buying a second hand P.A. check it out and make sure it works fine, if you are not the person that can really tell if a P.A. is working fine take someone with you that does. You don’t want a P.A. that is dodgy and does not work. Anyway lets get started!
- The first thing you want to do is setup your speakers. Place the speakers as far apart a possible within reason at a minimum distance of 4 meters and at a height of about 5 to 6 feet to the audience.
- Place the mixer and power amp/power mixer somewhere where it can be reachable by one of the performers. You want to have this close to someone since you may need to change the levels at times during performances.
- Next connect the speakers to the power amp/power mixer with the speaker cable. If your speaker cables are jacks or cannons they will plug straight into the speaker and the power amp/power mixer. However if the connectors are speakon connectors than you with have to plug the cable in and than twist it to lock it in.
- Next you will want to plug in all your input devices, for most people learning how to setup a P.A. you will just be plugging in microphones and CD players or audio devices. So connect the microphones with microphone cannon leads and connect CD and audio devices with phono leads (maybe phono to phono or phono to jack). If you are connecting instruments, sequencers or effect units use jack leads.
- If you are using a power mixer you will not have to do this step. Next connect your mixer to the power amp. The outputs from the mixer will normally be on the back or on the top on the right. Take two jack leads and connect the left out on the mixer to the left input on the power amp and the right output the right input.
- Connect the power cords to a power outlet. NOTE: DO NOT SWITCH ON YET. Before switching on check that all volume knobs and sliders are down on the mixer and the power amp/power mixer and that all power switches on the equipment if off too.
- Switch the power on at the wall than switch your gear on. If you are running a power amp and mixer switch the mixer on first and than the power amp, when you switch it off do the opposite - power amp off and than mixer off.
- NOW YOU ARE READY TO GO
- When it comes to switching off switch off the gear first and than switch off at the wall. Make sure that you do not remove, change or unplug any leads or cables while the gear and the wall power is switched on.
Anyway there is a quick and simple guide that can get you up and running with a simple P.A. If you are using a large or complex P.A. than additional things will be required and you should seek professional help from a music store on how to setup and use your P.A.

Using Woodworking Plans To Do It Up Right
So think you?d like to build a bathroom cabinet. Perhaps a new curio for the front room is in order. You even recognize how nice it would be to make a captain?s bed with a full set of drawers underneath and a headboard that holds books. If you have big plans for building something out of wood, then make sure you have the right woodworking plans and patterns so that you can do it like the professionals.
What?s In a Woodworking Plan
Commercially sold or free woodworking plans found online take all the guess work out of a project. A good plan, not only list the lumber you will need ? type and quantity, but it can give you estimates on how long the whole project will take and evaluate it by skill level. For example, a beginner may not be ready for a curved wood curio cabinet top, but could really do nicely making a lighthouse style birdhouse.
Wood working patterns also contain a hardware and accessories list. You will know ahead of time just how many hinges, knobs and drawer rails your project requires. It will give a description of the best materials to use and even where to get them.
A tool list helps you make sure you have everything you need to work with your supply list. Many plans don?t assume you already own any of the tools so the list is comprehensive and complete. If you need a particular saw blade, the plans will let you know right there in black and white.
Another helpful part about using a woodworking pattern is that all your measurements are there. If you are making the captain?s bed with underneath storage drawers, you will not need to calculate or guess the width each drawer needs to be in order to fit three across. The figuring has been done for you. Even better than just planning, the plan author has most likely made the project several times, so they know from experience.
How Hard Is It To Read Woodworking Plans?
Many plans are created to overcome the language barrier. Pictures illustrate each step and are often all that is necessary without added written descriptions. For those steps that may need the additional explanation, written directions are usually in several of the most common world languages.
You don?t need to have a degree in hammering and gluing to understand how these directions work. If you have every put one of those ?some assembly required? toys together, then you will be pleasantly surprised that reading woodworking plans is actually easier!
The Finishing Touches
Many wood working patterns come with illustrations or photographs of the finished project. Line drawings are always included, but it is also nice to see the finished piece in a photograph. This will give you ideas for staining or painting the finished wood project. Also you can get an idea of how it might look in a room in your home. Don?t be afraid to take on a wood working project just because you can?t see how it?s all put together from the outside. Chances are somebody has wanted to make one of their own and has drawn up just the pattern you need.

Practical Solutions for Arthritis Sufferers to Overcome Daily Challenges
Arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, is a condition that can affect your quality of life tremendously if you do not know how to manage it well. If you can control the condition and manage it effectively, you will be able to reduce its impact on your life. Having arthritis does not mean that you can never be self-reliant again. With appropriate adjustments made to your daily living, you can still do most of your daily tasks by yourself. Below are some helpful practical solutions on how you can make your living easier with arthritis.
* Lifting things
If you need to lift things, you should try to bend your knees and not your back. This can help reduce much pain and damage to your back.
* Avoid stretching
If the items you often used are placed at the upper shelves of cupboards and you need to stretch yourself to reach for these items, you should place these items at the lower shelves. In this way, you do not need to strain yourself to get them when you need them. If you need to cook using the back burner, you can make use of long-handled utensils for cooking. This can help make your cooking easier.
* Opening containers
As far as possible, you should use your elbow or palm to open sealed containers. Try to avoid using your fingers too often.
* Chair with arms
You should use chair with arms for sitting as they are much easier to get into and out of. For people who suffer from back pain, these chairs with arms will provide additional support for them.
* Door knobs
If the door knobs around your house are the round type and hard to grip, you should change them to the level type which only requires a light push to open the door. It would certainly make your task of opening doors much easier.
* Tap handles
Water taps with lever handles can be pushed on and off with very little effort. If the water taps in your house are not this kind and are more difficult to use, you should consider replacing them. This can prevent excessive strain on your fingers.
* Wall switches
There are wall switches that can be switched on and off simply by pushing them. If your present wall switches are not of this type, you should consider replacing them. Similarly, you can replace those lamps in your house with those which can be turned on and off simply by touching the base.
* Shower chairs
A shower chair provides convenience and comfort as you can shower while sitting. You can consider getting a shower chair if you do not have one yet. In addition, a handrail can be installed at the side to help you move in and out of the chair.
* Liquid soap
If you are presently using a soap bar for bathing, you can consider using liquid soap instead. In that case, you do not need to worry that the soap bar will fall off from the grip of your hand anytime and you have to pick it up from the tub or the floor. You can mount a liquid soap dispenser any place on the wall which is convenient for you. Try to get the type which you can dispense the liquid soap with just a light push.
* Automatic garage door
If you need to open your garage door very often, you can consider buying an automatic garage door. This will make opening the garage door much easier and save you from exerting stress excessive on your joints.
* Installing stair lift
If you have difficulty using the staircase, you can install a stair lift in your home to help you get up and down to different floors of your house with ease.
* Lighter household appliances
Having lighter household appliances can help to lighten your work load. If you can find lighter electrical appliances than you present ones, you should consider replacing them. Using lighter models of electrical appliances, such as vacuum cleaner, electric iron, etc, will certainly make your work easier.
* Engaging services
If you experience painful flare-ups on certain days, you can engage some available services to do certain tasks such as mowing the lawn, washing the car, cleaning the house, etc. This can prevent damage to your joints and help make living easier.
If you take appropriate steps to cope with arthritis, living can become easier and more manageable. The above tips are some ways you can adopt to help you achieve this. Despite having arthritis, there is a lot you can do to remain self reliant. Instead of allowing the disease to impact greatly on your life, you should make adjustments in your daily living to cope with it. You are the only one to determine how much it can impact on your life. For more ways on overcoming rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, please visit Homecare and Elderly care.

Choosing An Appropriate Digital Camera
If you’ve resisted buying a digital camera up until now then you’re really missing out. Digicams have come a long way since the early days and many models rival conventional cameras with ease.
Take a few minutes to decide what you’ll be using it for. Simple family snaps or something a little more creative? Visiting a high tech camera store can be daunting task with many dozens of cameras on display. Which do you go for? Some are as small as a bank card, others are huge with all manner of knobs and buttons. Maybe you can see yourself smugly showing off your new micro-thin digital camera but before you make your decision, it’s important to zone in on the main reason you’re buying the machine in the first place.
Are you looking for an ultra compact model which fits nicely in your pocket? Or are you expecting to be snapping more professional pics for your work? Do you think too many options may confuse you or are you happy with modern digital menus etc? Think about whether you’d like a camera with some manual functions too. The last thing you want to do is return home with a camera that is not exactly matched to your situation or skill level.
If you’re new to the digital camera revolution, try to brush up on the terminology used. Acquaint yourself with the various camera specifications. The Google search engine is a great place to do some research. The salesmen will of course try to make you believe that your dinky, micro-thin, ultra expensive digicam will transform you into a David Bailey clone. Don’t believe the hype.
You’ll see the term ‘Mega Pixel’ everywhere. This is simply the maximum resolution that the camera will produce. The higher this value is, the larger your photos will go before they become blurred. If you think that you’ll only be sending pics back and fore on the web then a 2 megapixel model will do just fine. Don’t be confused with optical zoom and digital zoom. They are two very different things. Digital zoom is not a true zoom. All it does is process the pic with a loss of image quality usually resulting. If you like your zoom function, always go for an optical version.
How much can you spend? While digital cameras are dropping in price significantly these days, a decent machine will still set you back a pretty penny. When deciding on your budget, be sure to consider the dimensions, the features, its resolution (megapixels) and the manufacturer.
Every photographer will have their favourite brand. If you fear change then stick to what you know. Go for a brand that you have got on well with in the past. If you’re a little more adventurous then you can have much more fun in that digicam store.
Some other things to consider include the memory card. This is the equivalent of the film in a regular camera. Most digicams use SmartMedia Flash cards and you can pick up 128 meg cards on the Internet pretty cheap these days. Furthermore, what type of batteries does the camera take? You’ll find that the majority of digital cameras take AA cells, so you may want to consider rechargeable options.
Lastly, always but always try the digital camera in the store before you part with your cash. Many people get all excited, not really checking the machine out as much as they could. Then when they return home they find it’s not really the tool they thought it was. Get trigger happy in the shop. The sales assistants won’t mind and if they do then go somewhere else. Note the ergonomics - does it fit nicely in your hand? Can you get to all the essential buttons easily? Take your time to check out all the features and ask lots of questions. Follow this guide and you’ll be the proud owner of a digital camera that will see you right for a long time.

Six Things You Can Do To Prepare For The Coming Pandemic
A recent survey showed that 60% of American businesses were not ready for the coming Avian Influenza pandemic. However, 73% said they wanted to get ready, but weren’t sure what to do. Here then, is a starter list of six things you should include in your business preparedness plan.
1. Absenteeism will be high due to illness or refusal to come to the workplace out of fear. Gather your key employees in accounting, sales, marketing, manufacturing, and management and develop a work-from-home strategy.
2. Offer your employees who must come into the plant a safe environment. Hire a sterilization team to scrub the plant’s exposed surfaces every day. A bleach/water solution will kill all pathogens in the workplace. Be sure to have plenty of NanoMasks and Nanofilters on hand for each employee. Clean all HVAC vents thoroughly. Bring in portable, commercial grade UV air filters and place them around work areas.
3. Establish an in-house clinic with a full-time RN or LPN. When this pandemic hits, hospitals will be overwhelmed and understaffed. Victims of H5N1 must be started on antivirals immediately. A mobile clinic parked outside your office building, or a designated emergency treatment area within your plant will promote confidence.
4. There isn’t going to be a vaccine for H5N1 available for probably 12 months or more. Your best shot at survival will be antivirals and good hygiene. Purchase ViraGard spray and hand it out freely to employees. Encourage them to spray surfaces, knobs, handles, keyboards, and their own hands.
5. Do not allow immune-compromised employees, or employees with any type of immune disorder to come into the workplace once the pandemic starts. A special care plan for these employees should be developed that includes self-quarantine.
6. Develop a secure, confidential website that allows all employees to read the latest company news and action items, and allow employees to contribute news to the website to keep everyone informed.
The first pandemic wave will probably last about 90 days. You’ll need medical supplies, plenty of soap, potable water, disinfectant, emergency power for those days when electricity will fail, and someone to monitor, gather, and disseminate local pandemic news to your employees. This pandemic will have a huge negative impact on the economy. Those businesses that prepare now will suffer the least.

Holiday Gifts For The Elderly
Seniors have special needs. Shucks! We all do.
If you are planning to get a present for an elderly person this holiday, here are a few suggestions.
RELEVANT
What can the senior use? What can the senior use daily? Is there an item that would make his or her life easier? Here are some examples.
Electric Razor- If your loved one is wheelchair bound and male, an electric razor would be a relevant gift and one that is sure to be appreciated. And don’t get one of those that you have to plug in! Duh! Get one of the good quality ones that runs on batteries. That way, he won’t have to waste time rolling around to find an electrical outlet.
CD Player-I’ve heard it so often from those who have spent most of their lives in the last century,” I have a tape player, but I don’t have a CD player.” Get busy. Most music is available on CD today. Your loved one may be missing out on favorite music on demand. Besides, you can add one of those Spoken Word Books particularly if your loved one liked to read and now good sight is a problem.
Senior Shoes
Get ‘em the ones with the stick-together tabs. That way one doesn’t have to bend down to tie shoelaces which, in all probability, are about eight inches too long anyway!
HELPFUL
Manicure and Pedicure-You got your own clippers, so you don’t think about that much. However, trimming toe nails and fingernails can be a real hassle or impossible due to infirmities. Maybe you could line up a Manicurist that makes house calls. Set up a schedule-every two week or every month.
Haircut and Lady’s Hair
Same thing. There are folks that will come to the residence and give your loved one a haircut or hairstyle, shampoo, etc. It takes a little research and it would be appreciated.
Doorknobs- Didn’t think of this one, did you? A wonderful gift would be “latch type” door openers(replacing the door knob). As the aging process kicks in, people often loose strength in the arms and hand. This would really help in such a situation. If you’re handy, you could replace them yourself. If you’re educated, you can pay someone else to do it!
You do the shopping-This is a cheap one. You might like it. You, yes you, go every several weeks and do the shopping for the senior. I like to think of it as a gift that keeps on giving!
FREE GIFTS
A kind word, sit and listen, clean the john, launder the john bib, wash the dishes, dust, make the coffee-I think you get the picture.
As the Holiday nears, don’t forget those precious human beings that have meant so much to you in your life. Love them!

The Key To Successful Residual Cash Income
Cash flow from your business comes from smart and intense use of your skills. Profit comes from patient work and takes time to build and get going.
One of the most important keys to making your residual cash income is marketing. Your goal should be to build a good business to market and do a good job at it.
Marketing is available to you offline as well as online. Young people brought up in the Bill Gates computer decades will find this hard to believe.
You have many marketing ideas for income formulas available to you. The winning affiliate idea for you is to simply market your opportunity to other human beings.
Starting a home or office business and keeping it a secret, from everyone, will never let you sell e-books on eBay, club digital media from your web site or antiques from your store. If your budget is very low, start with passing out business cards and even posting hand written notices on bulletin boards.
Successful businesses market in different ways. Take your product and get at least a little excited about it. Share the story with others.
Something as simple as making up flyers and putting them on neighborhood doorknobs with rubber bands can get you started. I started this way myself.
Another possible beginning marketing strategy is to make up a catchy phrase for your business. For example, digital media solution, if you are dealing in digital media or electronic shopper if you are an eBay marketer.
Try to reflect your business and make it something easy to remember and recall. Doing this will make it hard to forget and easily reflects your business. Businesses do this all the time.
Even small businesses can make memorable campaign slogans and catchy phrases. Play with the idea of making your own catchy tune to it. This will be viral and others will hear it and start saying, humming or seeing it.
Make it remind everyone of your business and product. Do not sweat it but rather have fun working on and developing it.
Make it help customers to relate to the business and develop a loyalty to the product. Make it simple and creative.
It may take some time to come up with but once you find it you will be pleased with how it helps to develop your marketing program.
Online marketing is difficult to develop until you find the right buttons to push. In time, the buttons will change but this is how life goes.
Marketing online is usually difficult. The inter net is a virtually infinite place. To find a marketing niche is difficult until you learn how to catch the eyes and ears of your target market audience.
You the business owner now need to search for your desired target market. It may be something as simple as dogs, embroidery or everything like an instant language translation software that can be world wide by many millions of people.
For a large audience, if you do not mind being an affiliate, a universal affiliate product like language translation software can be sold to leads world wide. This is an example of a giant market.
Another new product on the market the last couple years is digital media that can be transferred to ipods, mp3 players and other media. Digital media, like the translation software above, can be marketed to a large audience.
The blind can hear Moby Dick, Main Street or the life, to date, of Bill Gates or other innumerable written materials that can be translated from the written to spoken word. Students can learn unlimited subjects while they rest.
Keep your eyes, mind and ears open for unlimited items like this that have a giant and perpetual market to be sold to. Think niche market to sell to. If it is a giant niche with unlimited potential that is okay also.
Imagine the type of person that will want and need your product. Your next step is to advertise to online and offline markets where your target market is.
This makes it easier to catch their attention and sell to them. The combination of a cool slogan and target market will equal a good marketing campaign. It takes a little more to make your business a success though.
The last segment of a marketing campaign is measuring the results. You want to know how your marketing plan is working so you can tweak it for better results.
It is a waste of your money to advertise anywhere that is not producing results. Many online programs allow you to precisely track your marketing efforts.
Making a marketing campaign and having a clearly defined target market are essential to successful marketing and monitoring if a business owner is to successfully earn residual cash income.
Each segment of your marketing game plan is important. You, as the business owner must ensure that each part is being done properly.
Monitor long term ads in progress. Mistakes by marketing agencies through misunderstandings are always made. Correct mistakes quickly.
Marketing can seem like a difficult challenge, but with this three part formula it is easy. Like anything in life, once you start doing it, you get steadily better at it

Bathroom Vanity Cabinets - Considerations Before Buying Bathroom Vanities Online
Bathroom vanity cabinets are an essential component of any bathroom and can add drama to your design and decor. Bathroom sink cabinets provide countertop space, a place for the sink and faucets and great storage below. It is amazing how often bathroom cabinets and storage are left out of the planning process. It is important to have a place for everything in your bathroom that is easily accessible to everyone. Bathroom vanity cabinets and storage provide home organization and reduce clutter. You never can have too much bathroom storage!
Here are some considerations before buying bathroom vanities online or in stores:
Bathroom vanity cabinets are available in widths of 18 inches up to 48 inches and in increments of 6 inches. When looking for bathroom vanities online or in stores, shop where you can find a wide variety of styles and sizes. From traditional to contemporary, you should be able to choose from vanity cabinets made of woods such as walnut, oak, maple, cherry and finished with high-gloss lacquer that showcases the natural wood finish.
Here are types of bathroom storage cabinets:
1. Cabinetry - bathroom vanity cabinets, wall cabinets, recessed cabinets and medicine cabinets. 2. Open shelving - recessed shelving, corner shelving and surface mounted shelves. 3. Over the toilet cabinets - cabinets that use the wall space over the toilet for storage cabinets. 4. Linen closets, towers with baskets, built-in closets and cabinets or freestanding bathroom sink cabinets that often extend from the floor to the ceiling and provide excellent bathroom storage for linens and other bathroom items.
You should be able to find bathroom vanity cabinets in these two styles:
1. Face-frame vanity cabinets. These bathroom cabinets will give your bathroom a more traditional and formal look. The frame and panel doors are designed to frame the cabinet box, and hinges can be either hidden from view or visible.
2. Frameless vanity cabinets or European style cabinets. These modern bathroom vanities will give your bathroom a more contemporary look. Frameless vanity cabinets will provide you with heavy-duty cabinet boxes and hinges that are hidden and easily adjustable.
When selecting bathroom sink cabinets and door hardware, make sure you match the period cabinets with period style knobs and pulls. You can sometimes find the antique type of knobs you may be looking for at flea markets. Knobs for your cabinets can be $3 to $5 each, and some can run $20 or more each, perhaps creating a problem for your budget.
For your bathroom vanity cabinets countertops, you have several options. You can choose from laminates, ceramic tile, wood, composite materials or solid surface materials such as stone, stainless steel or concrete. Laminates, composite materials, solid surface materials and stainless steel are more susceptible to scratches. However, composite or solid surface materials can be repaired and replaced very easily. Stone countertops are beautiful and durable, but they can stain easily and are expensive.
Ceramic tile is the most commonly used countertop surface. It is durable and you can select from a wide variety of sizes, colors and textures. However, the grout used between the tiles can stain and the tiles can have irregular surfaces. Wood surfaces are beautiful but can stain or mildew if not maintained well. Concrete is a durable and heat-resistant countertop surface, but it can discolor or crack.
Whether upgrading an existing bathroom or planning a new one, the bathroom is one of the best home improvement investments you can make. You, your family and guests will enjoy the bathrooms in your home every day. And should you ever sell your home, attractive and functional bathrooms add to the desirability and to the selling price of your home. Before you buy, read as much as you can on choosing the bathroom vanities online or in stores that will be the best for you and your bathroom. Learning as much as you can will be time well spent.

Helen’s Fantastic Fishcake Recipe
Homemade Fishcakes - simple as simple gets. This makes 8 good sized fish cakes
Put 4 large baked potatos in the oven, gas mark 220. Rub sea salt into the skins and then turn the potatoes every 20 mins or so. They will take about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
When the potatos are nearly ready, get a baking tray and place foil down - leave enough so you can wrap the fish up!
Place 3 salmon fillets and 2 cod fillets onto the tray. Sqeeze a little lemon and drizzle a little white wine if you have any! Wrap the fish up and cook for 12-15 minutes or untill cooked. Please low down the oven as opposed to the top where the potatoes should be
Once cooked take the potatoes and fish out. Leave both to cool.
Flake the fish and the inside of the potato into a bowl, add salt, pepper and a few knobs of butter.
Lightly blend the mixture, but be carefully not to mash! Add about 2 handfuls of finely chopped spring onions and about 1 handfull of finely chopped parsley.
Once all the mixture is together, put in a fridge and leave for a few hours untill chilled.
Once chilled you can make the mixture into round patty shapes and again leave to chill for at least half an hour
You then have 2 options
Option 1 - lightly dust in seasoned flour (sale & pepper) flour and fry straight away
OR
Option 2 - dust in flour, then in eff then in breadcrumbs. Dont buy shopped breadcrumbs use some bread toast it and crunch up to make your own crumbs but remember season them!
Serve with a wedge of lemon and salad with perhaps a oil and balsamic reduction dressing

Getting Money Out of Metal Detecting
A metal detector should not be bought solely on the suggestion of one
person (no matter how good a friend). If you are new to the hobby, you
should realize that long time detector users can be very committed to the
particular model and brand of detector that they have been using. They
are generally unfamiliar with anything newer or different. As you can
probably tell metal detectors are very useful not only to find that
cherished earring but for our everyday safety and well being. This is a
great invention that will be here for years to come.
The metal detectors in airports, office buildings and prisons for example
help ensure that no one is bringing a weapon onto the property.
Consumer oriented metal detectors provide entertainment to people and
give chance in discovering hidden treasures. Metal detectors work on the
principal of electromagnetism and their effects on conductive metals. The
high-powered coil of metal, called the transmitter, uses the battery power
to generate a penetrating magnetic field. As the electromagnetic field
enters the ground, anything metallic will become charged with
magnetism.
How to Derive Maximum Value from a Metal Detecting Business If your
favorite pastime is metal detecting, did you know that it can easily
become a source of income as well as provide other benefits?
Getting Money Out of Metal Detecting
The beeping sound that metal detectors make is like sweet music to your
ears, isn’t it? That sound is something you’ll rarely hear however if you
allow your exploration to be hindered by small but easily avoided mistakes:
Always take your time when sweeping the area. As long as there’s no
deadline to meet, you have all the time in the world to carefully and
thoroughly explore every millimeter of the place. Use the best equipment
possible. Most metal detectors are manufactured for a targeted setting at
mind, so don’t make the mistake of using the wrong equipment for the
wrong site. Be sure that you understand how your equipment functions
because overlooking any important feature may be the sole reason why
you haven’t discovered any valuable finds.
In connection with that, make sure that you have a checklist ready for
metal detecting equipment. Besides a metal detector, you also need
flashlights, extra batteries and bulbs, digging tools, electronic gadgets,
and a digital camera among other things.
Mention the words metal detector and you’ll get completely different
reactions from different people. For instance, some people think of
combing a beach in search of coins or buried treasure. Youve got to buy a
metal detector that could withstand normal wear and tear longer than its
competitors. The longer the metal detector can serve you, the better
your return on investment will be.
Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a
great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts
with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector
should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting
at detect-metal.info.
Go to your local ” do it yourself ” coin operated car wash. Look for the
place where they dump the contents of the 25 cent vacuum cleaners.
Search the piles and see what a gold mine they are for coins and rings.
Will smaller children be using this detector? If this is to be a family
detector then it is critical that you consider the size of the detector
including how short the pole can be.
If you are planning to buy a metal detector, you should check out the
features of each before buying one. Metal detecting is a fun hobby but
having the wrong equipment can cost you time and money. Practice still
makes perfect. To avoid enraging your neighbors, use your own yard to
practice creating holes. Practice regularly and as often as you can. It’s
better to have a variety of sites to practice in to ensure that you have
adequate skills no matter where your next dig is. The best time for metal
detecting is right after heavy rain. Invest in proper rain gear to prevent
yourself from catching a bug. You need all your strength to beat the
others at finding hidden treasure.
Other Fields that Require Metal Detecting Skills
If money is not the primary source of motivation behind your passion for
metal detecting, perhaps you’ll gain more joy from using your skills in any
of the following situations: Lost and Found - You can help people recover
missing items with the use of your metal detecting talents. Whether you
should charge them or not is entirely up to you!
Make History - Be a part of an exciting archeological project by utilizing
your metal detecting skills to uncover historical artifacts. Such digs might
even require you to travel to various exotic places.
Provide Justice - You can help solve a crime by assisting your local police
force in finding crucial evidence that could give justice to victims, both
dead and alive. Your metal detecting business can be non-profit or not;
what matters is that you have fun. How are your “mental detection”
skills? Some youth professionals never notice that they’re working with
children in distress. Not noticing makes it more likely that you might add
to the child’s burdens, and these children already carry a heavy load. You
may also miss any cues that show that this is a child who could one day
explode in violence.
Schools everywhere are using metal detectors to help filter out violence.
The metal detectors can very easily (for this is why they are used) detect
a knife or gun. Police stations and Airports use them as well. Some users
put a rubber band around the knobs to keep them from moving or
becoming loose. You should buy a metal detector that is light weight.
This is important when you are detecting things on a riverbank or body of
water. Find the best gold metal detector today and start treasure
hunting!
The Garrett Enforcer G-2 is the smallest body scanner and sensitive
enough to detect even the smallest of knives or guns. The most popular
one is the Super Scanner. It can detect hatpins as small as one inch.

Organizing Your Laundry
Organizing Your Laundry By: Janet L. Hall
Does it seem like your laundry is multiplying:
Fear not because you are not alone! Paper, toys, and laundry are usually on the top of all my home clients list of causing chaos and frustration. According to The Tide Clothesline? at http://www.clothesline.com the average household washes 7.4 loads about 50 lbs. - per week and the average load contains 16 items. They go on to say that in a typical household, more than 6,000 articles of clothing are washed each year!
Id like you to ask yourself and answer the following questions; I hope these will help you in evaluating your situation. I have added suggestions and some thoughts for you to ponder on after the questions.
1. Who do you do laundry for? 2. Who can do their own laundry?
If youre washing for everyone in the home and you have children/spouse that can reach the knobs on the machines, ask them for HELP.
? Teach them to be responsible for their clothing and show them how to sort, wash, fold, and put away. ? Post washing and drying instructions near the machines. ? Develop a schedule for family members that can wash their own clothes.
3. What kinds of clothes are piling upchildrens, towels, sheets, etc.? 4. What help can you get from others?
? Assign and limit 1-2 towels to each family member per week. ? Wear clothes more then once. ? If you have children that are too young to do their own laundry, teach them to sort clothes and/or fold towels, underwear, socks. Depending on their age, dont expect it to be perfect but praise them for their help. ? Show children where their folded items go (make it easy for them by storing those items in bottom drawers).
5. When do you prefer to do laundry? 6. When do you have time to do laundry?
? Decide if you prefer to do laundry in the morning, in the evening, during the week, or only on weekends. ? Pick a day and time that youre not going to be constantly interrupted or tempted to play. ? Place yourself on a schedule and system if you cant get help. ? Time yourself and your machines cycles; sort, wash, machine or line dry, fold, sort and put away to help you determine how much time you need for each load. ? Wash, dry, and put away by person or room.
Sample schedules:
Stay at home two loads a day schedule: If you stay or work from home try starting a wash load in the morning while the coffee is brewing, throw that load in the dryer or hang at lunch time, and start another wash load. Right before or after dinner, take the dried load out and put the other load in. Fold while dinner is cooking, watching the news, or waiting for pages to load on the Internet. Get the last load out and fold before going to bed. Make sure you put each person/rooms in a sorted pile to make putting away quicker and more efficient. (My mom use to use the couch, bed, or a table to fold and sort onto, she would then pile the piles into the basket by person and room and distribute them on our beds for us to put away).
Away from home one load a day schedule: If you go out to work you can try throwing in a wash load before going to bed at night and tossing them in the dryer before leaving for work. As soon as you walk in the door, get them out of the dryer and fold while youre checking your phone messages or email. Put away before retiring for the night.
7. Where is your washer/dryer located? 8. Where does everyone put his or her dirty clothes? 9. Where do you like to or would like to fold clothes?
? Your washer and dryer might not be located in a convenient place, such as the basement. More and more builders are starting to place these machines in hallways, kitchens, and even bathrooms. If you have the funds and space, you might look into relocating your machines. ? Install a laundry shoot in the bathroom closet or area that is convenient for everyone to use. If that isnt possible, designate a place for everyone in the home to put his or her dirty clothes. ? Find a place in the home where you are comfortable and have plenty of room to spread out and sort/fold clean clothes.
10. Why are you responsible for everyone clothes?
You are the only one that can answer this one .
11. How often do you want to do laundry?
? Decide if you want (I know, no one wants to do laundry) to do laundry daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Then ask if you need to or are you able to.
12. How many articles of clothing does each family member REALLY need per week, season, and special occasion?
? This is the time to be REALLY HONEST with yourself and will depend on your answer to # 11. How many articles of play, casual, dressy, work, holiday, seasonal, and special occasion outfits does each family member need? If they have too many, you will never stay ahead of the dirty clothes. ? Recycle, sell, or donate clothes that arent being used or that you have an abundance of. ? If you or your family are putting on and taking something off (and throwing it in the dirty clothes) because it doesnt fit right, look right, or you/they dont really like itget RID of it!
Laundry Tips: Always try and wash a full load. Wash hand towels and smaller items of same color range with large articles, such as sheets and table cloths. Make sure you and others know how to use the proper cycles on machines to minimize wrinkling. Put a clothes rack by the dryer and hang clothes as they come out; put away by person/room. If you cant hear the buzzers on the machines or tend to lose track of time, set a timer for the length of the cycle and keep near you. Clothes that need ironing should be washed first so you can iron while the other loads are being done. Wash delicate, underclothes, and hand washables while taking a shower.
Please remember that anything you try you MUST give it a chance to work, at least a month. If you find something not working, try another schedule or approach for another month until your clothes stop multiplying.
I hope some of these tips and hints will STOP the major reproductive system of your laundry. Good Luck!

RHUBARB-GIFT FROM THE GARDENArleen M. Kaptur
Rhubarb - you either love it or not. There doesnt seem to be any in-between when it comes to this fruit that lends itself from a pale pink to a ruby red hue.
This strange looking plant with its giant leaves and pink stems comes originally to us from China and Tibet. These ancient cultures used the rhubarb for medicinal purposes. Its leaves are very toxic, and they should never be eaten.
Here are a few country-fair recipes for rhubarb - pick your favorite and see if your family can decide if they are rhubarb enthusiasts.
RHUBARB CREAM PIE -
2 cups rhubarb, washed, dried, and cut into 1 inch pieces
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tbs. all-purpose flour
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs, separated
Mix the sugar, flour, milk and egg yolks together. Pour this mixture over the cut rhubarb and mix together well. Pour into an unbaked pie shell and bake in a 425 degree oven until the fruit is tender and the filling is a custard consistency.
You can add meringue to the baked pie using the egg whites and 3 tbs. of sugar.
Brown in the oven for about 10 mins.
Cool and serve.
RHUBARB COOKIE TREAT
4 cups trimmed, washed, and diced rhubarb
2 cups sugar divided
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbs. sweet-cream butter
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Heat oven to 350. Using a pre-buttered baking pan, place diced rhubarb in pan and sprinkle with 1 cup of the sugar and all of the cinnamon. Heat in oven for about 20 mins. Remove from oven and set aside.
Cream together 2 tbs. butter and 1 cup sugar. Add the eggs, gently stir in the flour, and add the salt. Mix gently incorporating all the ingredients. Pour this mixture over the hot rhubarb. Bake in oven for 1 hour. Remove, cool, and cut into squares .
FAVORITE RHUBARB TREAT
1 cup flour
3 tbs. powdered sugar
1/2 cup sweet-cream butter
2 cups trimmed, washed, diced rhubarb
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup orange juice (not concentrate)
3/4 tsp. salt
Mix the flour, powdered sugar and butter together and press into the bottom of an ungreased 7-1/2 x 11-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 mins. Remove from oven and set aside.
Mix the rhubarb, eggs, sugar, flour, orange juice and salt together. Pour onto the baked crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins. Using a knife inserted in center, check to see if the center is set. If not, bake for an additional 5-8 mins. Test again, and when knife comes out clean, remove, cool, and serve.
Here is a very different kind of jam. Try it - you just might make this your favorite!
EASY RHUBARB JAM
4 cups trimmed, washed, and diced rhubarb
2 cups granulated sugar
1 (3 oz.) box raspberry jello (Do not make the jello - just use the powder)
In pan, combine all the ingredients above.
Simmer over a gentle, low heat until well cooked.
Pour into fancy glass jars.
When the jam has cooled, cover with plastic wrap and store in your refrigerator.
Easy and tastes great!
There is nothing nicer than combining two seasonal favorites and discovering that two good things make one great pie!
RHUBARB/STRAWBERRY PIE
1-1/2 cups rhubarb, trimmed, washed and cut into small pieces
1 cup fresh washed, trimmed, and sliced strawberries
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tbs. flour
2 tbs. sweet cream butter
1 tbs. cold milk
1 9 unbaked pie shell, ready-made or made from scratch
Combine the rhubarb, strawberries, sugar, flour, butter and milk. Gently blend and then pour into unbaked pie shell. Dot mixture with remaining 1 tbs. butter. Cover pie with additional pie crust, or use strips of pie crust for a lattice design.
Also, if using an additional pie crust, combine equal amounts of flour (about 1/2 cup), sugar (about 1/2 cup), and about 3 tbs. softened sweet-cream butter. Cut with pastry blender or two knives. You will get very tasty crunchies to sprinkle on top of your pie crust. Flute the edges of the two crusts together before using the sprinkles.
Bake in a 450 degree oven for 10 mins.
Reduce oven to 350 and bake for 30 mins. or until crust/or crunchies are lightly browned.
Remove from oven and cool on rack.
Serve with vanilla ice cream for a very special pie ala mode.
Hope these recipes make a rhubarb lover out of you and your family.

Old Cabinets Look New!
There are many different types of cabinets. Everyone has kitchen cabinets, some people have built in cabinets, there are medicine cabinets, toy cabinets, garage cabinets, curio cabinets and bathroom cabinets. No matter where the cabinets are located however, they all serve one purpose ? to store things.
Sometimes we store things in a cabinet for a long period of time and they rarely get opened like a curio cabinet. Other types of cabinets are more functional and receive a lot of wear and tear and daily usage like the kitchen, garage or bathroom cabinet. Regardless of how a cabinet is being used or what it is being used to store, after a while they begin to need some sprucing up. There are a few ways to give old cabinets a new life.
A more expensive way to liven up old cabinets is to get rid of them completely and buy and install new ones. There are many varying degrees of quality when it comes to cabinets. The wood that they are, or are not, made out of will be a big factor in the cost of your cabinets. Cherry is going to be a lot more expensive than veneer material. Also the design of your cabinets will be a deciding factor in how much they will cost as well. The fancier the design on the door of the cabinet, the higher the price tag. Another thing that will determine the cost of installing new cabinets is the number of cabinets you need or the amount of space you want to fill with cabinets.
If you like the idea of new cabinets without tearing your kitchen apart or the price that comes along with that work, you can always have your cabinets refaced. Refacing involves changing out the current drawer and door fronts only. The base of your cabinets stays intact and nothing is removed from your kitchen except the old drawer fronts and doors. The biggest advantage to having your cabinets refaced as opposed to replaced is that they will be completed in about 3 days, the cost is substantially lower and you will still feel as though you got a new, updated kitchen.
There are some things that you can do however, to spruce up older cabinets before you decide to take out a small loan and install new ones. First, try changing out the hardware or knobs on your cabinets. Although higher quality knobs will cost you a little more, you will be surprised at what new knobs and drawer pulls will do to your outdated cabinets.
If knobs and pulls are not enough for you, you can also paint your wooden cabinets. There is no need to sand them down completely before you apply paint. You do need to sand them enough to make them tacky so the paint will adhere well to the surface. Also, use a primer first that is made to improve the adhesion of paint. When choosing a paint, be sure that whatever color you choose, you choose a hi-gloss finish or enamel. Enamels or hi-gloss finishes are easier to clean and really shine and stand out. By using an enamel or high gloss paint there is no need to use polyurethane as a sealant.
Whichever route you decide to take on updating your cabinets in any room, know that you have options and choices and that starting over is not the only one.

Know Your Guitar Parts
Guitars have been used with so much diversity in many musical forms. The instrument is known by many as a classical solo instrument and the basic musical instrument in rock music.
Get acquainted with this magnificent instrument; know its parts:
1. Headstock. This is found at the edge of the guitar’s neck. It is tailored with the instrument’s head for adjusting the pitch.
2. Tuners. The tuners keep the strings of the guitar stretched beginning at the base down to the knobs. Tuners likewise allow the guitar player to alter or modify the pitch either flat or sharp, depending on the player’s choice of music.
3. Nut. This is a tiny strip of hard medium or material which supports the strings at the intersection where the “headstock” meets up with the “fret board”. The strips can be made of plastic, bone, graphite, brass or any hard medium and indented to secure the stings in position. The nut acts as one of several endpoints assisting the tension of the string.
4. Fret board. Also known as the fingerboard, it is a lengthy wood plank inserted with frets of metal that composes the top of the guitar’s neck.
The fret board of a classical guitar is flat and is a little curved diagonally on an electric or acoustic guitar. The curve is calculated by the radius of the fret board that is the range of a “hypothetical circle” and which the surface of the fret board makes up a segment.
The smaller the radius of the fret board, the more that the curve is evident. When a string is pinched against the board, the string’s “vibrating length” is shortened thus creating a higher pitch sound or tone.
5. Frets. These are strips made of metal, particularly nickel alloy set in alongside the fret board that are positioned in conjunction with the string’s length that mathematically divides it.
When the strings are pushed down from the rear of the frets, this cuts the string’s length of vibration to emit different tones or pitches.
6. Neck. The neck is composed of the guitar’s fret board, frets, tuners, truss rod and headstock; all are fastened to a long extension made of wood. Usually, the wood that is used for the fret board will be of a different kind from that used on the remaining neck parts.
The firmness or stiffness of the guitar’s neck in accordance to its body is one determining factor of whether it is of good quality or not.
7. Body. The acoustic guitar’s body is an echoing cavity projecting the vibrations through the guitar’s sound hole which enables the audio of the instrument to be clearly heard even with no amplification.
In acoustic guitars, its body is a big determining factor in the overall sound it produces. The soundboard or guitar top is a delicately engineered and crafted component that is usually made out of red cedar, spruce or mahogany.
This very thin slice of wood, generally measuring only 2 - 3 mm thick, supported by different kinds of internal brackets, is the most pronounced and important element in influencing sound quality.
Most of the sound is brought about by the guitar’s top vibration as the momentum of the vibrating cords are transmitted to it.
8. Pickups. This is what really amplifies the cords sound. Most guitars have one to a maximum of three pickups. The kind of pickup is reasonably important, depending on a particular sound that you are aspiring for.
9. Pickguard. Commonly called the scratch plate, is a plastic guard or any laminated medium which protects the guitar’s top finish.
The pickups as well as almost all electronics in other electric guitars are framed and inserted atop the “pickguard”. On “acoustic guitars” and several “electric guitars”, the pickguard is directly inserted to the top of the guitar, and on guitars having carved tops; the “pickguard” is raised.
10. Bridge. On acoustic guitars, the key objective of the guitar’s bridge is to hand over or shift the string’s vibration to the “soundboard”, which then shudders the air within the guitar; thus increasing and strengthening the sound created by the cords or strings.
Go ahead, explore the parts of your guitar to better acquaint yourself with this wonderful instrument; test it too and see where it will take you. Enjoy!

How Much Should You Spend To Get Your Home Ready To Sell?
When you get ready to sell your home, it’s important to make it sparkle, especially when compared to your neighbors’ houses. Every real estate agent knows that well-polished houses not only sell faster, but they also sell for higher prices.
When planning the “spruce up” strategy for your home, you’ll first want to consider how much you want to spend, and then how much of that money to allocate to the outside and the inside in order to help sell your home the most quickly and for the best price.
How much should you spend? The answer is simple: as little as possible. The idea is to make your home shine by addressing areas that will make a good impression on buyers, without spending money you won’t be able to recoup at sale time. Generally, that means a serious clean-up, inside and out. Then, depending upon your budget, you can make relatively inexpensive (but often dramatic) upgrades, such as paint, new knobs for kitchen cabinets, or new towel racks in the bathroom.
On the outside, make sure your home looks nice from the street, since that’s the first impression every buyer will have. Keep the lawn mowed and the sidewalks edged. That’s important, and doesn’t cost anything extra, since you’d be doing that whether your home was for sale or not. Plant a few annual flowers along the walkway and around the house. They’ll add a touch of hominess and color, and make a good impression on buyers.
Keep flower gardens and shrubbery well-maintained, and make sure the front door is nicely painted and opens easily without creaking. If the paint is peeling on the outside of your home, especially the windows and doors, it’s time to repaint with a color that attracts your buyer’s profile.
If there are shingles missing, they should be replaced, but don’t put on a new roof unless it’s absolutely necessary; you’ll rarely recoup such a major expense. If the driveway is covered with oil stains, there are some good products that can remove them without a great deal of cost.
Inside, go through each room, doing a thorough cleaning and removing clutter. Have a friend walk through with you, telling you what catches their eye, because you may have grown accustomed to things that will create a negative impression in the minds of prospective buyers. If rooms need paint, repaint them, using colors that you know your buyers will love.
Pay special attention to bathrooms and the kitchen. If the floor looks old and worn in the kitchen, new linoleum tiles are easy to install and can instantly give old kitchens new sparkle. Repair or replace any dripping faucets–another relatively inexpensive repair that can pay big dividends.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get your home ready to sell, but you do want to make it as attractive as you can (without spending a lot) if you want to sell it quickly–and at the highest possible price.

Lemons Add Zest To Life
Lemon trees laden with their winter crop, boughs drooping under the weight of many hued lemons: dark green, lighter green becoming suffused with yellow, vibrant yellow bursting with life, then as they go unpicked and overripe a flush of orange seeps into the knobbly fruit. Until I came to South Africa lemons came from a shop: smooth, uniform yellow skins all year round. Now I have learned to appreciate their seasonal bounty, struggling to use up all the fruit in winter, hoarding away the squeezed juice of the excess lemons in the freezer for summer, when the lemons must come from the shop again and are more expensive and less juicy.
This is the time to think up a hundred and one ways to use a lemon, to dig out all the recipes requiring a lot of lemons: Lemon Curd, Lemon Cake, Three Fruit Marmalade with grapefruit and lemons to balance the sweetness of the oranges. Jane Grigson?s Fruit Book has a wonderful sounding Lemon Tart recipe, that I can?t wait to try, it sounds like the sort of marvel you?d get from a good French patisserie.
Roast chicken can be kept moist and succulent as it roasts, with a lemon stuffed into its cavity. Pierce the lemon?s skin a few times to let the juice seep through, but put it in whole. A spritz of lemon juice on green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach, lifts the flavour and replaces some of the vitamin C lost in cooking too. I use up lots of lemons making jam in the strawberry season in spring and early summer. Lemon juice is an essential addition to the soft fruit, to add the pectin that makes it set. Most of my freezer stock of juice will go on that.
On hot summer?s days the lemon comes into its own. Refreshing, iced, home-made Lemonade garnished with mint to slake your thirst ? much healthier than commercial fizzy drinks, despite the sugar. It is additive-free, with loads of Vitamin C and far more delicious than anything that comes in a can.
Recipe for Lemonade 3 large lemons sugar soda water
Remove the peel very thinly from the lemons, taking just the yellow zest and leaving all the white pith. A potato peeler works well for this. Put it all into a heavy bottomed pan and cover with 2cm/1? water. Cover with a lid and warm over a very low heat. Do not let the water quite boil or it will bring out the bitterness of the peel. Once the water is strongly flavoured, take off the heat and allow to cool. Strain it into a jug. Squeeze the juice from the lemons and add to the jug, then stir in sugar to taste. It should be sweet and strong flavoured, as you will dilute it to serve. Serve with soda water added, if you like a fizz, or plain iced water and garnish with some slices of lemon and sprigs of mint. The undiluted lemonade keeps for several days in the fridge.
Lemons are a great health boost in winter, adding essential Vitamin C to the diet, to help fight off colds and flu. They also help expel mucus, so are excellent for chesty colds and coughs. My son, who has a tendency to asthma, has a cup of hot honey and lemon every morning, which he luckily likes ? 1 teaspoon of good raw honey and a tablespoon of lemon juice with hot water poured over ? which helps keep his chest clear in winter.
I recently learned a housekeeping tip from Morocco: use a lemon to clean copper and brass. Just rub the cut edge over brass bedknobs or those wonderful Moroccan door plates to bring up a shine, then buff with a soft cloth. The kids thought that was a great idea and now keep running off with half squeezed lemons to polish the spare room bedknobs!

Shopping For Acoustic Guitars
Guitars are played expansively in all occasions, and are considered to be one of the ancient forms of music instrument. People learn it for hobby, interest, or various other reasons. Among the classical guitars, acoustic guitars are believed to be the contemporary lineage of the well known guitars.
Acoustic guitars do not need the support of electricity. Acoustic guitars produce lucid and loud sound. Recently, many forms of guitars have flooded the music market, yet acoustic guitars are more prominent as they are the successors of prevailing guitars. Customarily, all non electric guitars are recognized as acoustic guitars. Acoustic guitars promote the students in focusing on the basics of playing a proper sound without any sort of distractions from knobs or amplifiers that are invariably seen on electric guitars and can be a reason for distraction to beginners. Beginners can practice it anywhere as it is portable.
Acoustic guitars are produced using many types of materials right from environmental wood to plastic. People purchasing acoustic guitars give importance in understanding the materials used in the instrument. Acoustic guitars made of solid wood sides, tops and back are the priciest ones. Generally, guitars are made from rosewood or mahogany, the exclusive woods. The average variety guitars are made as a combination of solid tops with laminated sides or backs, and the lower side is made of laminated wood. Exclusive attention is given to the type of wood used and its construction. Guitar made of dried wood is considered to be the best guitar due to the nonexistence of moisture that can destroy the entire guitar in a short time.
Acoustic guitars are available in many varieties made of different species of woods. Acquiring an acoustic guitar involves checking every individual part of the guitar like the neck, the bridge, the body as well as the end blocks. It is very essential to have a perfect bridge unit as the part of the bridge that touches the strings produce vibrations transmitting improved sound quality. Bridges made of plastic are not worth buying as they fail to produce pleasing sound.
Rock band artists, folk groups, country music, and many other prominent guitarists use acoustic guitars as it produces astonishing sounds naturally. Amongst guitars the Dreadnought guitar is preferred by guitarists as it can be easily played with fingers. Technological developments and techniques have enhanced the quality and reliability of these instruments leading to more demand and availability at affordable prices.

Is Refacing Cabinetry a Solid Investment?
Being a Custom Cabinetmaker and Finish Carpenter I’m frequently asked what I think about refacing cabinetry as opposed to demolishing the old cabinets and starting from scratch.
I generally pride myself as someone who has an open mind. While I have strong opinions on a variety of topics… I like to offer options to people rather than to come off as someone who knows it all. Besides, I don’t “know it all.”
That being said, to say I’m not a fan of refacing cabinetry would be an understatement! I’ll give you the Pro’s and Con’s and let you be the judge.
If you have a refacing specialist in your home you are likely to hear something like…
Refacing cabinetry is an inexpensive way to update your kitchen’s look with a minimum of inconvenience and without all the dirt, debris and noise associated
with demolishing your kitchen and starting over.
Now, to be fair, there is some truth in the statement above. Refacing does typically cost less than having a custom cabinetmaker, like myself,
completely redo your cabinetry. (Though it’s not inexpensive!!!) The project will also be completed in less time than a custom cabinet job.
The problem is, they make no mention of quality or durability or improved functionality and forget getting a decent warranty!
In order to understand the problems with refacing cabinetry you need to know a little about the process. They typically remove and throw away the: doors, drawer fronts, door hinges, drawer slides and cabinet door knobs (if any).
Then, the cabinets are “roughed-up” by sanding and sometimes a chemical stripper is used as well. The refacing installer then adheres a wood veneer to the exposed surfaces. Typically, the veneer has a PSA backing (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) and it is firmly pressed to the old wood surface to make it’s bond.
The veneer is trimmed and detailed. A new wood stain and protective finish is applied. The final touches include installing the new doors, drawer fronts,
miscellaneous hardware and possibly the attached moldings.
The Con’s come down to Quality and Freedom! The PSA wood veneer is very thin and very frequently starts to bubble or lift off the old wood surface within a year to 18 months.
If you happen to catch something on an edge of the veneer you may very well peel it back or tear it altogether. If someone, say a child, happens to scratch
the veneer surface it will most likely expose the old wood surface as the veneer is very thin.
As far as freedom goes, you didn’t get to change the cabinet’s interior. If you had fixed shelves before, you probably didn’t get to upgrade to adjustable
shelves as this is too much work in retrofitting.
If the old kitchen layout wasn’t to your liking, your newly “updated” kitchen isn’t going to work any different.
The list goes on and on…
By the way, if you’re still not convinced, ask around and find someone who refaced their kitchen two years ago or more and find out if they’d do it again. Just make sure they don’t work for the refacing company!

Knobs, Hinges and More is Proud to Introduce Objects by Tracy Glover Studios and Michael Healy Designs
www.KnobsHingesandMore.com is proud to announce the addition of Tracy Glover hand blown cabinet hardware and lighting and Michael Healy finely crafted door knockers.
Southold, NY (PRWEB) February 27, 2006 — www.KnobsHingesandMore.com is happy to offer Objects of Art by Tracy Glover Studios. The ageless art of glass blowing is being energized by artisan Tracy Glover, who breathes new life into the medium with innovative talent, studied skill and a healthy reverence for tradition.
The Rhode Island-based glass blower is the designer and creator of the Tracy Glover Collection - an elegant family of handcrafted table lamps, floor lamps and vases. A study in understatement, Ms. Glover’s creations speak to any d?cor.
Ms. Glover employs Venetian glass techniques, choosing glass with vivid, ultra-rich colors like aurora, plum, celery, tourmaline and steel blue. These striking hues take on a new dimension of vibrancy when combined with neutrals. This drama of contrast is one of Ms. Glover’s signatures.
Each lamp and vase ordered is individually produced at the artist’s industrial studio. Mass production does not exist. The glass blowing process begins only when an order is placed, not a second sooner, promising the buyer a one-of-a-kind result.
Subtle variations in pattern and color are a natural occurrence in the process. Therefore, the artist recommends ordering pairs of lamps at the same time, to ensure a good match.
With a degree from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, Tracy Glover’s path has taken her across the world. From Manhattan to Murano, Italy, this bold innovator has patiently crafted her signature elegance. It is her honor to have been selected as the first female glassblower at Val Saint Lambert Crystal factory in Belgium, a revered facility nestled in a 14th century convent.
A world away, both literally and figuratively, her creations have appeared on The White House Christmas tree, and have a permanent place at The Clinton Library in Little Rock and the Detroit Institute of Art in Michigan. Ms. Glover’s lamps are sprinkled like jewels in the Spa Tower Corridor and the Baccarat Room at the famed Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
We are also happy to offer Michael Healy Designs finely sculptured door knockers and door bell ringers.Michael Healy studied metal sculpture at the University of Notre Dame where he learned century-old bronze casting techniques which became the foundation for his artistic expression. Michael’s artistic style is very identifiable. He is known for his ability to skillfully combine quality materials into sculptural, yet functional forms. He is particularly noted for his talent for turning an everyday object into a unique work of art. His most recognizable works are this series of unusual Door Knockers and Doorbell Ringers. Michael Healy has prolifically sculpted over one hundred door sculptures. His door sculptures depict interests such as gardening, cooking, outdoor life, the Southwest, horse-back riding and the seashore.
To ensure consistently high quality at all stages of the metal casting process, Michael Healy works from his own foundry in Rhode Island. Michael is assisted by a select group of talented artisans who handcraft each Door Knocker or Doorbell Ringer. This personal attention to detail guarantees that every door sculpture is truly special. Michael Healy signs each of his Door Knockers confirming its authenticity and quality craftsmanship.
A New Twist . . . A Classic Look In the world of decorative hardware, small changes go a long way. Putting new pulls on kitchen cabinets or new knobs on dresser drawers is the easiest way to alter the entire look of a room. With his new line of hardware, award-winning designer Lewis Dolin brings a world of experience - and a fresh look - to the decorative hardware market. Dolin’s distinct interior designs and tabletop accessories have been featured in a wide variety of national and international publications, including the New York Times, Interior Design ,Food & Wine and The Home by Susan Szenasy. His entry into the decorative hardware market is marked by the same simplicity of design and clean forms that have gained him a reputation as an original, talented designer.
Bin pulls take a dramatic new look with the Glass Bin Pull Series and complementary Mushroom Knobs. Both the Bar and Barrel Series are simple geometric forms with a great deal of versatility in their application. The Acorn Glass Series is an elegant turn on a natural form. And the Ceramic Series - King, Queen, Pawn, and Bishop - brings a clever, new twist to a classic look. A door has to have hinges and a means of opening and closing. Add some dash to the required hardware by making decisions about their look and feel. Choose the warmth of brass or the strength of a black finish. At the front door, decide to dress up the doorbell by choosing hardware that adds definitive character. Decide not to have a doorbell, but select a stylish door knocker instead. Make the front door the first statement you make for your home. Make your inner doors confirm the statement.Whether adding a ceramic knob or a gecko cabinet pull; a glass drawer pull or brass hinges to your kitchen cabinets, the warmest room in the house takes on the cozy, homey feeling that is its nature.
It’s all about the details, the personalization and ownership that comes with the details, that makes enhancing a kitchen something of an adventure … and fun.Floor registers frequently come with memories of growing up. Of home, or of grandma’s and grandpa’s house. And it’s impossible to think of those memories without warmth - literally. Recreate those memories with a register cover reminiscent of those days, and make the warmth in your house match the warmth of your childhoodWhen it comes to beautifying your home, we take nothing for granted. Don't Leave Me Now
Dont leave me now lest my sweet breath would cease Dont leave me now else my whole body would freeze Dont leave me now that Im crying on my hurting knees Else I may never give my heart away again on lease
If you leave me right here and walk away from my life Id not even think about slitting my throat with a knife This life will still go on and Ill definitely remain alive But without you right here how do you want me to survive
Cant you see I trust you with every bit and inch of my heart And never ever want to imagine the both of us live apart If you leave today I shall never find another to believe Thats why Im still begging you to stay and never leave Dont leave me now else my whole body would freeze Dont leave me now that Im crying on my hurting knees Else I may never give my heart away again on lease
If you leave me right here and walk away from my life Id not even think about slitting my throat with a knife This life will still go on and Ill definitely remain alive But without you right here how do you want me to survive
Cant you see I trust you with every bit and inch of my heart And never ever want to imagine the both of us live apart If you leave today I shall never find another to believe Thats why Im still begging you to stay and never leave Why You Don't Write Your BookSuzanne Falter-BarnsIn the ten years that I’ve taught people how to get on with their books and creative projects, I’ve noticed a phenomenon that I’ll call “Author’s Block.” Would-be writers can, indeed, sit down and work when pressed to it. The problem is that they’re not so sure they want the pressure of being an author. But they do want it. But they don’t. And so on.
Ah, the agony of getting on with your book.
Well, I’m here to diffuse that situation with a list of the key reasons we have trouble sticking to our writing or other creative projects. Perhaps this will help the next time you find yourself polishing doorknobs instead of sitting down to work.
Check all that apply to you:
You Lie To Yourself About Why You Can’t Write The Book
You think your stalling is about lack of time, or too much pressure at work, or not enough solitude in the evening. But guess what? Chances are a deeper, darker reason may be at play, like ‘I’m not supposed to be bigger than Mom’ or ‘What if this thing really takes off?’
You Fear The Impact Your Book Could Have
Sometimes when I coach writers in my Self-Help Author’s Crash Course I’ll ask them what’s impeding their progress. And after some probing, it will come out that they’re afraid of the big exposure a book can have if it takes off. I’m here to assure you that should that happen, (and chances are your book will not unleash wild mobs of millions) you will be able to handle it. How do I know? On that deep level where psyche meets karma, you won’t create a single reader more than you’re ready to receive.
You Think Your Book Doesn’t Matter, So Why Bother?
One writer I know put this succinctly: “I’ve tried getting up at 5AM to write, or staying up late, or even leaving my home, but none of it works. I have this tired feeling that none of my effort is going to amount to a hill of beans.” In fact, writing and publication can be an entirely self-determined activity these days. If the publishing pundits don’t go for your book, there’s always the option of self-publishing paperback editions or e-books and selling them on online booksellers or your website. In other words, your book DOES matter, and you really have no excuse. (Acid test: if the book keeps on patiently urging you to sit down and write it for months and even years, chances are you’d better do it.)
You Think You Don’t Know How To Write A Book
Guess what? Neither does any other first time writer. And that may be a wonderful thing. As a beginner, you don’t approach your book project with a carload of professional expectations and demands from your process. You can just be open, like well, a nice blank book. All you really need is your intuition to guide you, and the will to write your book as honestly as you can.
You Have No Support
You need someone in your corner, cheering you on, to get through the long and somewhat tiring process of birthing a book. Because writers need a way to show up and be accountable for their progress. They need someone to keep saying, ‘Yes, you really can do this,” or even “How’s it going?” Minds can be tricky and difficult when fully challenged by something like a book. And steady external support is the best way around that.
You’re Afraid You’ll Run Out Of Material
There isn’t a writer out there who hasn’t had this fear. And I’m here to say that if you just stay loose and open, and willing to receive the ideas, they will show up. All you have to do is commit - really sit down, and begin to bring that book into being - and the work will magically appear. Sometimes it won’t flow that easily, and sometimes it will scare you with its speed and power. But it will, indeed, show up.
You Think ‘Who Am I to Write a Book?’
And yet, you are the perfect person to write your book, because you’re the one chosen to receive this material. (You don’t have to be spiritually inclined to believe this.) I personally believe that books are given to us when we’re ready to receive them and when we do, our lives are changed by that process.
You Fear Uncomfortable Moments
Ah, but that’s the most exciting thing about writing your book. You will be given challenges and lessons that just seem untenable along the way. And if you’re committed enough, you’ll rise above them and so become stronger in the process. This is especially true for self-help books: we naturally write what we need to learn.
Got a few categories checked off from the list above? Good! Awareness is the first step to diffusing your fears. Meanwhile, PLEASE do get on with your book despite your misgivings. Not only do you deserve this work - so do we.

Primp Your Room - Quick and Easy Tips
Getting tired of the same old drab room? Need to add zest to a dated look? One of the most easiest ways to do this without a complete room makeover and a strain on the pocket is to utilize home accessories.
Home accessories are one of the most overlooked yet quickest ways to update or contemporize a room. Here are three fun and cost efficient ways to achieve a new decorative look:
Your Home is the Best Source of Hidden Treasure
1) Assess what you have already in your home. Dig through your closets, under your bed, the attic, and in other rooms. Be sure not to limit yourself to the traditional stand bys: pillows, blankets, pictures. These items are great too, but let’s get really creative and drag out that old sun hat and silk scarf. Most likely you will find old favorites or treasures that you had forgotten about. Collect any potential candidates and take them to the room that you’re currently updating.
If you’re reworking your living room you may have found that the sun hat may work as wall decor. Tie that scarf around a curtain as a pull back. A chic look can be created with many scarves when used as accents in this manner.
Traditional Standbys Used Untraditionally
2) Get out all the traditional stand bys: blankets, pillows, and pictures. Use these in a different way. For example: instead of using that decorative blanket to cover up your sofa, try using it on a coffee table or use to cover up unsightly electronic equipment. Depending on the size, it may work well as wall decor for a unique tapestry effect especially if it’s a family heirloom.
Pillows work great around a fireplace hearth and add a real cozy invitation to snuggle by the fire. A quick way to make your own pillow is to use two place mats and sew around the perimeter and fill with feathers or polyester fiber.
Swift Thrift
3) Shop at many thrift boutiques. Often times you can find vintage accent pieces that cost less than brand new. Vintage items can add darling charm to your decor. Be on the look out for the newest trend: glass doorknobs. Replace your old doorknobs with gorgeous designs that are reminiscent of the 1940s.
Use your imagination and by all means have fun. Your home is an expression of you and an ongoing work of art.

The Smart Way Protect Yourself From Bird Flu by Using Germicidal Hand Lotions
One thing that people can do to protect themselves from colds and flu is use germicidal hand lotions.
These lotions are commonly recommended by public health experts at the beginning of every cold and flu season. Almost all common commercial lotions contain isopropyl alcohol.
A company in the U.K. — Advanced Formulations — is already marketing a product called No-Germs to people concerned about bird flu.
To be fair, Advanced Formulations created No-Germs to deal with the very serious problem of MRSA or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus.
When they heard about bird flu, they tested No-Germs against the bird flu virus H5N1. And discovered that it was 99.8% effective against the H5N1 bird flu virus. Knowing a good thing when they see it, they now market No-Germs in England as a way to protect against bird flu. You can also buy it online at their site.
What’s the problem with both isopropyl alcohol and No-Germs?
Look at that number 99.8% again. It’s not 100%, is it?
And that’s the problem. Nothing kills 100% of microorganisms. There’re always a few oddballs in every crowd of germs who just happen to have a genetic resistance to anything you throw at them. A select few have the biochemical capacity to bind to the antibiotic and so render it harmless to them. Or some biochemical way of destroying the antibiotic. Or a biochemical pump that draws out the antibiotic.
A few always survive. They continue to multiply and divide — and so their descendants inherit the resistance. And so you have dangerous bacteria that laugh at your strongest antibiotics.
Look at it this way. What if the Earth were invaded by some race of aliens who wanted to wipe out humanity. So they unleashed a sophisticated bioweapon that destroyed every homo sapien with black, brown or blue eyes?
That would kill a huge percentage of the population — but not the people with green eyes or albinos with red eyes.
They only way to kill everybody would be to destroy the entire planet. But then the aliens would have nothing left to take over.
We could kill every germ inside ourselves simply by blowing ourselves up, but obviously that’s not a desireable option.
The process of creating antibiotic-resistant bacteria and viruses that resist antibiotics and germicides has been going on in hospitals for decades. And it’s why hospitals, nursing home and other medical treatment facilities are the worst places to catch an infection in.
Because those are the places which have attacked germs the most — forcing them to evolve into antibiotic and germicide-resistant varieties.
Does that mean hospitals and nursing home shouldn’t fight against harmful bacteria and viruses? Obviously not.
When you have a medical problem you must balance potential gain against potential risk.
When you have a life-threatening bacterial infection, take the antibiotic.
But if you take antibiotics every time you blow your nose . . . Or what’s even worse but it’s frighteningly common, you take them simply to prevent infections . . . you are encouraging the development of bacteria inside you that can resist antibiotics.
And that makes it more difficult for people who get a similar infection in future — including perhaps yourself — to defeat it.
That is what alcohol and now No-Germs can do to your hands. All skin has bacteria on it — which will not harm you. You are safe as long as the normal skin bacteria far outnumbers any disease-causing bacteria.
But apply isopropyl alcohol or No-Germs — and you kill the normal bacteria. You are just clearing the way for germicidal resistant and harmful bacteria to grow like weeds in a newly plowed garden.
Sometimes this is the lesser of two evils. Do consider using isopropylalcohol or No-Germs on your hands when:
1. You are a health care worker or anybody else in close contact with bird flu victims.
2. You’re caring for a bird flu patient at home.
3. You’re visiting someone in a hospital or nursing home. Apply lotion to your hands going in to protect the patients. Apply it to your hands after you leave, to protect you.
4. You handle dead birds or anything suspected of bird flu or anything for that matter that might have harmful bacteria or viruses of any kind.
5. You know that you’re touching door knobs or other objects recently touched by someone with bird flu. This could be at your work place or at home.
For most people, the best protection is still ordinary soap and water.
Wash your hands thoroughly several times a day, as well as before eating and after using the bathroom — of course. Wash your hands for at least 30 seconds at a time.
This cleans them of harmful bacteria and viruses just as effectively as anything else — without encouraging the evolution of germicide-resistant bacteria.

I got into this business as a singing piano player. When I
am performing I need to connect with the audience. If the room
size is proportionate to the crowd size, I can do my job
successfully. If the room is too big and there are not enough
warm bodies in attendance, the audience will feel too
intimidated to approach the band. When you keep the band close
enough to your guests will feel comfortable enough to interact
with the musicians and vice versa.
Have you noticed yet that keeping the venue small so the
band can be close to your guests will increase your chances of
having a successful event? Depending on the act, you can leave
a little dance floor in front of the band. But all in all, keep
the crowd near the band and allow the band to be an integral
part of your event.
I have frequently worked with party planners who are
clueless when it comes to what size stage is needed for a
band.
“If you fail to plan ahead, then you are planning ahead
to fail.”
Here are the stage specs for various sized bands:
3 Piece - 8 feet by 16 feet
5 Piece - 16 feet by 24 feet
12 Piece - 16 feet by 32 feet
With the is newly acquired information, experienced event
planners will always prefer to go with a room with a stage
rather than just placing the band on the same level as
attendees. Proper planning for stage requirements avoids major
headaches the day of the show. Also, having the band on a stage
allows them to be seen by everyone even by the people in back.
When selecting the venue, you will also need to keep in
mind the acoustics of the room. High ceilings and flat walls
with lots of windows and no curtains to muffle the sound are
not optimal environments for bands. Work with an experienced
sound person to mix the band and equalize the room and
eliminate feedback.
Agents
There are only a handful of very few good
professional bands anymore. If you don’t know a good
booking agent, you will be hard pressed to find them. A good
agent will be the one to help you thru the minefield of
mediocre, amateurs with amps that have no volume control knobs.
As an event planner you need to figure out your event theme and
then contact a talent booking agency to see if there are bands
that fit.
The most popular bands play a wide variety of styles. A
good group of musicians knows songs from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s
and ’90s. Frank Sinatra has never gone out of style. So make
sure the band plays what we call “Jazz Standards”. Depending
on your event and your geographical location, it is either
“Country Music is King!” or “Classic Rock Rules!”. Know your
demographics before hiring a band.
As with any vendor, you get what you pay for. Let’s talk
about budget. I wonder, even as you continue to read this
report, if you realize the amount of time a band puts in before
receiving a paycheck to practicing their instruments, learning
and memorizing repertoire and coordinating lights and
choreography. Most bands require anywhere from $1,200 to
$45,000 per gig. Experienced booking agents will be able to
place the right band for the party. With any event, experience
wins every time. Ask for references and testimonials.
Technical Set Up
Once your musicians are booked, you now need to cover
logistics. Tech setup includes the movement and placement of
equipment and sound checks. Bands usually bring their own
equipment. Amplifiers, instruments, a PA system for vocals,
lighting towers all the way down to carpet for the drums need
to be set up and placed and checked and moved and double
checked again. Allow enough time for all of these details to be
adequately addressed well before show time. Because it is not
IF something goes wrong, it’s WHEN something goes wrong.
And it always does with a band. Give them enough time to fix
it.
Sound check must take place no later than 3 hours before
the performance start time. Load in should occur 1 or 2 hours
before that. The sound check should take no more than an hour,
and after that, let the band go back to their rooms, freshen
up, take a nap, grab a meal. They should return NO LATER than
30 minutes before their performance.
Band Character
Musicians have traditionally had a reputation for being
evil practitioners of any number of very colorful vices. It has
been my experience, however, that we are no different than any
other industry be it stock brokers, medical personnel or city
workers.
Use these simple rules and you will notice you can keep
any group of performers in line.
- Band members should not eat any food in buffet lines or
inside the ballroom area. They should have a separate area or a
“Greenroom” where they can eat, drink, warm up their vocal
cords, stretch out and generally prepare for the gig.
- During a performance, bands should not consume alcohol
or smoke. If they can’t wait a few hours to partake of their
favorite libation, fire them on the spot. You will avoid
headaches and embarrassment down the road. In addition, you
will get the reputation you will not tolerate any such
behavior. Trust me. Word will get out you are a professional
party planner.
Finally, remember: Treating musicians with dignity and
respect translates into a happy band which brings you happy
clients and guests who enjoy the entire event no matter
what the occasion.
You are now armed with the 4 seriously critical ingredients
for success that you did not have before. If you have learned
this information through the school of hard knocks, you can
feel assured that you are a true professional.
Now picture the night of the event. Following dinner (if
it is served), lights should be dimmed, the band is introduced,
they hit the first chords and the excitement ripples through
the room. People move towards the dance floor and the smiles
appear on everyone in the room. Why? Because you did your job
and provided an exquisite ingredient that every corporate party
needs: Live Music.

Metal Detecting Tutorial
A metal detector should not be bought solely on the suggestion of one person (no matter how good a friend). If you are new to the hobby, you should realize that long time detector users can be very committed to the particular model and brand of detector that they have been using. They are generally unfamiliar with anything newer or different. If you are planning to buy a metal detector to join the treasure-hunting fun, here are some tips to guide you so that youll get the best deal possible. Metal detectors can be pricey, so youve got to invest your money well.
The metal detectors in airports, office buildings and prisons for example help ensure that no one is bringing a weapon onto the property. Consumer oriented metal detectors provide entertainment to people and give chance in discovering hidden treasures. How much will you spend on a detector? It is advisable to be a little flexible in this regard so that one can buy one that most suits the requirements.
Metal Detecting Tutorial
Searching for treasure is something that children grew up with after reading books about pirates. This fantasy can now become a reality as the person can buy a metal detector and start looking for jewelry or old coins that have been buried in the ground. Some people think that reading the manual will make the individual an expert in looking for these objects. The truth is it takes time to master the skill and getting some help from the experts is a good start.
Information regarding metal detection is available in books, magazines and on the Internet. The person should study the types of devices available or simply inquire about the types of model.
The first part of the tutorial is designed to familiarize the user with the different parts of the metal detector. This will give the individual an idea of what each part is used for and how important it is to finding objects buried underground. The second part will orient the person on how to use it when scanning a given area. The metal detector is swept from left to right in a slow motion and should a sound come back, this means there is something there, which could be something of value or just trash.
The large coil can be found in the search coil of the detector while the small coil is found on the System Control Pack. The coils are connected to an oscillator which produces pulses of current. The pulse passes through the coils in order to generate radio waves.
Youve got to buy a metal detector that could withstand normal wear and tear longer than its competitors. The longer the metal detector can serve you, the better your return on investment will be. Look for depressions showing where large trees might have been. The place where a clothes line might have been and outside under the kitchen window are two places the lady of the house might have laid something down or dropped something.
Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting at http://detect-metal.info.
Most detectors will perform as promised by the Manufacturers. However, different brands of detectors will have various characteristics and features. Some detectors may require different swing speeds and some may weigh more than others. Yet another feature to consider (for ease of travelling and packing) is the number of sections that the detector will separate into.
Metal detectors work on the principal of electromagnetics and their effects on conductive metals. There are actually two separate elements in the coil of a typical unit. One is a high-powered coil of metal which uses the battery power to generate a penetrating magnetic field. The third part usually involves teaching the person the different technologies used in detecting metal objects. This could be very low frequency, pulse indication or beat frequency oscillation. Come find out more on metal detector reviews in order to pick the perfect one today!
The mode of detection depends on the type of model purchased. It would be good for the individual to know his equipment in the event the current model being used is upgraded or if the customer decides to buy a better one in the future. The last part of the tutorial will be rather like a practical test for the user. Some coins or other metallic objects can be thrown in the backyard or hidden by someone else. After a few minutes, the individual should successfully find all of these items in order to pass the tutorial.
Buying a book or watching a video is just one way to learn how to use the metal detector. It would be better to get hands on experience such as that offered by local clubs so that other tips and can also be learned. These organizations also sponsor treasure hunts and other activities for the members so one can be just as good as the experts.
When hand-held detectors are switched on, a red signal pattern in transmitted from the coil to the ground. When the signal comes in contact with a metal, it interrupts the signal and the detector alerts the user with an audio signal and flashing lights. You could find rings, bracelets, necklaces, coins or anything metal. Depending on the brand of metal detector you buy and model it is you will get different results. Just ask or research to find out what kind would best suit you.
It does, however, have its own downsides. Some say that the knobs of the Pro XL are quite loose and when adjusting it, you have to be careful not to hit it with your arms. It is quite sensitive and bumping it may require you to start or reset the adjustments. Some users put a rubber band around the knobs to keep them from moving or becoming loose.
It is always very nice to purchase at least the second model up in the brand. You will get a few more bells and whistles and a lot more control over your detecting. Total purchase means that you will also need some accessory items such as trowels, scoops headphones and coil covers.

New Communities can Always use Renovation There are plenty of new communities in the Simi Valley region of Ventura/Loa Angeles.
However, many homeowners are choosing to add onto their Simi Valley home. This is a good move, even in an uncertain market as they aren’t making more land, and better utilization of your space is always a terrific move.
Barbecue Techniques
When was the last time you had a good barbecue? Here are some things to remember to help you come up with the perfect barbecue.
The choice of wood that you use can have some bearing on how your barbecue comes out as these impart different flavours to the meat. (Yes, unfortunately, your neighbors’ complaint that their food has a taste of wood in it actually does have some basis.) In addition, some types of wood burn faster than others. Many suggest that the best way to barbecue is to use a combination of wood and charcoal to optimize smoke flavour and consistent burning. (Let’s see what your neighbors can say about that one.)
As far as charcoal is concerned, buying a commercial bag of processed charcoal briquettes is fine, although lump charcoal may be better. The main difference between lump charcoal and brisquette charcoal is that the first has not been ground and shaped. Lump charcoal is considered a purer form of charcoal and is obviously preferred by purists over processed charcoal.
Ideally, you should use a chimney starter because this ensures a consistent heat level for the coal. Or, you could also use an electric iron to heat the coals. Others simply soak the charcoal in lighter fluid and light them, a technique which is quick and easy, although this can impart unnatural chemical flavours to the meat. Better to use denatured alcohol to avoid the aftertaste problem.
After 15-25 minutes, the coals are covered in ash. For indirect cooking, spread the coals around the grill’s perimeter and place the meat in the grill’s center. For direct cooking, pile the coals together in the center right underneath the meat.
Gas grills are ideal because they are easy to light and the heat they generate is easy to control, using those gas valves on the burners (the one with the knobs). However, purists still prefer cooking with charcoal because they claim gas grills lack the flavour that comes from cooking with wood and charcoal. Gas grills are also more expensive, but they are also cleaner since they do not produce ashes or air pollution.
