Lancashire Hotpot and Yorkshire Pudding Recipes

Lancashire Hotpot

A dish from the county of Lancashire.

Ingredients:

2 lb lamb

4 lambs kidneys

20 fl oz hot water

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

2 lb potatoes

? lb onions, chopped

1 bayleaf

A sprig of thyme

Tablespoon flour

Knob of Butter

Fat or oil for frying

Salt and pepper

Method:

1. Peel the potatoes and cut into thick slices.

2. Skin, core and chop the kidneys and chop the lamb meat into small cubes or chunks.

3. Brown the cubes of lamb and kidney in a hot frying pan with a little oil. Continue until all the pieces have been browned then put them in an oven proof casserole dish.

4. Keeping the same oil used to brown the meat, brown the onions.

5. Once the onions are golden brown stir in a little flour to soak up all the oil and juices in the pan.

6. In a measuring jug add the Worcestershire sauce to the hot water and then pour and stir into the pan with the flour etc. Take care to pour slowly and blend the mixture well, or else you may end up with a lumpy mixture.

7. Add salt and pepper to taste.

8. Now gently heat the pan and bring the contents to a simmer. As soon as it is simmering, take off the heat, then pour over the meat and kidneys in the pot.

9. Add the thyme and bayleaf. Now lay the potato slices on top of the meat to form a cover by overlaping the slices.

10. Add a few small knobs of butter on the potato roof and cover with a tight fitting lid.

11. Place in a preheated oven at 325′F (gas mark 3) or (170′C) for about 1? hours.

12. Remove the lid and return to the oven for another 45 minutes - to help brown the potato and finish the cooking.

Yorkshire Puddings (makes around 6 puddings)

These are easy to make as, most people fail at the cooking park - the oven has to be very, very hot and the pans should be smoking when you remove them from the oven!

Ingredients:

10oz of plain flour

1 large egg

A large pinch of salt

5oz water

5oz milk

Oil

Method:

1. Preheat the oven at about 200 degrees, pour about 1cm of oil into each section of a muffin tin and place in the oven.

2. Mix the egg, water and milk together, Sift the flour into a big bowl.

3. Pour the mixture slowly onto the flour. As you start to pour beat the mixture together with a whisk. Add the salt and continue to beat.

4. Once all the ingredients have been beaten together leave to stand, for about half an hour.

5. Once the oven is hot enough (very hot), remove the tray and for the puddings and pour off the oil.

6. Fill each sectipon about 3/4 full with mixture and put straight back into the hot oven.

7. Bake for about 20 minutes (try not to open the oven during this time as the yorkies could sink) till they are risen and brown. Remove from the oven and remove from the tin straight away.

Serve with Roast Beef and loads of gravy.

Reasons to switch to a gas furnace from an oil furnace
"Upgrading your heating equipment to natural gas will save money"
Given the extraordinary technological advances in the furnace manufacturing field, it makes both economic and environmental sense to consider upgrading your model to a more current version. Furnaces from as recently as 20 years ago may offer as little as half of the heat production of today’s models, while releasing significantly more harmful gasses into the atmosphere. If you currently have an oil furnace, it makes the most sense to look into upgrading to a natu

On Using Metal Detectors

In general, larger searchcoils will give better depth with larger targets and
better ground coverage. However, sensitivity to smaller objects may be
sacrificed. Smaller searchcoils will offer greater sensitivity to smaller objects
and improved target separation in trashy soil. Be it out of sheer hobby or
more on the professional level, you really would not perform well treasure
hunting if you do not have a good metal detector to explore with.

A recent study proves that hand-held metal detectors are just as accurate
as x-rays in finding coins and other metallic objects swallowed by children.
They are cheaper and radiation-free, are usually lightweight, highly
sensitive and require little maintenance. The special shape of the sensitive
surface makes operation of the device easy, unlike portable metal
detectors with ring transducers.

Metal detectors work on the principal of electromagnetism and their
effects on conductive metals. The high-powered coil of metal, called the
transmitter, uses the battery power to generate a penetrating magnetic
field. As the electromagnetic field enters the ground, anything metallic will
become charged with magnetism. Graduating from Metal Detecting
Enthusiasts to Metal Detecting Professionals

There’s no question about your enthusiasm for metal detecting but
there’s everything to doubt about your metal detecting skills. If you want
to transform your enthusiasm into something more productive, visible, and
concrete - such as obtaining real honest-to-goodness finds - here are
some simple tips to upgrade your metal detecting abilities to the next
level:

On Using Metal Detectors

In order to prevent losing depth, always remember to keep your metal
detector low and flat to the ground. Don’t neglect to use headphones,
no matter how keen your hearing is. Take your time sweeping grounds; if
you’re after valuable finds rather than beating the record on who finds
something the fastest, sweep the ground slowly and with painstaking
care. Make several sweeps on the same area to ensure that you missed
nothing. Lastly, take the time reading your metal detector’s user guide, if
any has been provided. Always practice. It’s not impossible that you’ll find
nothing on your metal detecting skills you wish to improve.

On Other Metal Detecting Equipment

Always have extra batteries and a charger with you. Make sure that your
charger has the necessary connectors so you can use it in the car during
emergencies. Never forget to take a flashlight with you. Before leaving
home, make sure that the flashlight’s in good working order. Get an
advice from people who are the known authorities in the field of metal
detectors. Although families and friends are good sources of information,
they might not be as updated as the experts are.

Go to your local ” do it yourself ” coin operated car wash. Look for the
place where they dump the contents of the 25 cent vacuum cleaners.
Search the piles and see what a gold mine they are for coins and rings.

Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a
great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts
with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector
should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting
at detect-metal.info. Most detectors will perform as promised by the
Manufacturers. However, different brands of detectors will have various
characteristics and features. Some detectors may require different swing
speeds and some may weigh more than others. Yet another feature to
consider (for ease of travelling and packing) is the number of sections that
the detector will separate into.

When buying a metal detector consider the price. If the metal detector
offers the best features of a then expect it to be expensive. If having
fewer features is all right with you, go for a less expensive one. Metal
detectors can run from as low as $50 to higher than $800.

Metal detectors work on the principal of electromagnetics and their
effects on conductive metals. There are actually two separate elements in
the coil of a typical unit. One is a high-powered coil of metal which uses
the battery power to generate a penetrating magnetic field. On Comfort
and Safety

Either have a backpack with you at all times or wear a shirt or pants that
has lots of pockets. This will not only make certain tools and equipment
more accessible, but it will also allow you to pocket small finds quickly in
order to resume sweeping immediately. Wear gloves, elbow and knee
pads to protect yourself from dirt and injury. Always have an insect and
bug repellent with you to enjoy nonstop metal detecting. Don’t forget to
have a bottle of drinking water handy so you can refresh yourself at
regular intervals.

On Metal Detecting Sites

With metal detecting, older is always better. Any land rich with history is
surely rich with metal detecting finds as well. The question is where these
old lands are.

Avail yourself of all the resources available to you such as the Internet and
the library in order to look up old maps. Befriend old-timers of your area as
they can probably point you to a place or two that can’t be found on any
of the local maps you’ve so far unearthed.

You are now merely metal detecting enthusiasts, but with a bit of
practice and luck, all of you will surely be on your way to becoming
successful metal detecting professionals.

A recent study proves that hand-held metal detectors are just as accurate
as x-rays in finding coins and other metallic objects swallowed by children.
Schools everywhere are using metal detectors to help filter out violence.
The metal detectors can very easily (for this is why they are used) detect
a knife or gun. Police stations and Airports use them as well. Comd find
out more on metal detector reviews in order to pick the perfect one
today!

It does, however, have its own downsides. Some say that the knobs of
the Pro XL are quite loose and when adjusting it, you have to be careful
not to hit it with your arms. It is quite sensitive and bumping it may
require you to start or reset the adjustments. Some users put a rubber
band around the knobs to keep them from moving or becoming loose.
The Garrett Enforcer G-2 is the smallest body scanner and sensitive
enough to detect even the smallest of knives or guns. The most popular
one is the Super Scanner. It can detect hatpins as small as one inch.

Tips on Selling Your Car

When we decide to sell our car we always want to get the best value for it. Even if it is worth only $500, we would still want to sell it at $1000 if possible. Here are some tips that can increase the car’s value and make selling it easier too.

To learn more about the pricing of your car, try to look for the same models in your specific zip code. The further the place is the more likely the difference in their car prices, unless it is a collector’s item car.

The next thing you do is clean the engine. Everything that the buyer sees under your hood will be detrimental to his decision. So clean the engine, battery and radiator. Also tighten up the belts that may provide weird sounds. Also check the fluids, sparkplugs and add antifreeze to the radiator.

After fixing the things under the hood, also fix up the body of the car. Clean the body very well and remove all the bugs and dirt. If the windshield and the lights are broken replace it. Also try to touch up the body with paint if it is rusting. After you have cleaned your car, apply Armorall. To make the wheels look good to, spray it with silver spray paint. Then fill the tires up with the proper psi and make them shinier and blacker with tire products.

Next, you would need to make the interior look good too. Clean the interior plastic with Armorall or 409 spray cleaner. Let the spray sit for a few minutes and then spray again and then wipe it all off. Other things that you must clean with Armorall or 409 spray are the interior vinyl and the headliner. Vacuum the interior very well. Spray and scrub the interior fabric with a soft bristle plastic brush.

Make the dashboard look good by buying those preformed dashboards. This is important to look good because a dashboard is in the buyer’s face. If the car is expensive, have the car seat replaced by an upholsterer, if not, you can get some cheap seat covers. Replace some missing parts like door lock knobs and rear view mirrors with generic stuff. If the steering wheel is also damaged, put some steering wheel cover.

After you’ve done all the stuff to make your car look beautiful you are now ready to put it in the ads. Try to make it stand out form the crowd and also get the extra 3 line boxes. Be descriptive as possible and get a CARFAX history report.

DOG DITTY DAILY #8

Motivational Moment for Misguided Masters & Mutts

Compiled by Hugo Hotagen, DDD (Duke of Doorknobs & Doghouses), a loyal lapdog-in-training apprenticed to the affable, agnostic and all-round air-headed Court of the Quipping Queen.

A quirky, quizzical and sometimes questionable quotidian quotation, in honor of the “Year of the Dog”, follows herewith:

“Sometimes when I get up in the morning, I feel very peculiar. I feel like I’ve just got to bite a cat! I feel like if I don’t bite a cat before sundown, I’ll go crazy. But then I just take a deep breath and forget about it. That’s what is known as maturity.”

Attributed to: Snoopy, a bouncy beagle character from the cartoon strip “Peanuts” (created by American cartoonist, Charles M. Schultz, 1922 - 2000).

A Guide To the Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Management of rheumatoid arthritis may include dietary and lifestyle changes, prescription or over the counter anti-inflammatory medications, disease modifying anti-rheumatic medications, alternative medicines and therapies or all of the above. Doctors look at a patient?s symptoms and other factors when diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis.

Tests including X-rays and blood tests may be used when diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis. A blood test may reveal the presence of the rheumatoid factor antibody, but it is not present in all people who have the disease, and it may also be present in people who have different diseases.

Therefore, diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis requires doctors to look at other factors. Treatment plans for the management of rheumatoid arthritis may begin before all tests are finalized, particularly those treatments that address pain and inflammation.

Diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis involves looking at a patient?s symptoms. For instance, morning joint stiffness may be a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis; X-rays may help doctors determine which form of arthritis is present.

Osteoarthritis is a wearing away of the protective cartilage and changes in the fluid between the joints. On an X-ray, it may look like the individual bones of the joints are touching or much closer than they normally would be.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammation of the fluid that normally lubricates and protects the joints, so on an X-ray the individual bones of the joint may look farther apart than normal. Except for the inclusion of disease modifying anti-rheumatic medications, management of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis is typically similar.

After diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis, the progression of the disease must be taken into consideration. If the management of rheumatoid arthritis is not successful in the early stages, joint deformities can occur, leading to disabilities and sometimes requiring surgery.

In the early stages, the symptoms are similar to osteoarthritis, except that osteoarthritis sometimes affects only one joint or only the joints on one side of the body, while rheumatoid arthritis typically begins with inflammation in the small joints (hands and/or feet) on both sides of the body. It is this symmetry of pain and inflammation that is one determining factor when diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis.

Even after diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis, doctors? opinions vary on how best to achieve management of rheumatoid arthritis, prevent the disease from progressing and put the disease into remission.

Some doctors recommend a strict diet that excludes grains, milk, nuts, beef and eggs. These foods are common allergens and food allergies have been reported to play a negative role in inflammatory diseases.

It is also believed that rheumatoid arthritis may be caused by a malfunction of the immune system and food allergies are believed to play a role in auto-immune diseases, as well. In several studies, patients who followed this diet reported an alleviation of symptoms for as long as five years. A diet like this may be an effective part of a treatment plan for the management of rheumatoid arthritis.

While some doctors turn only to prescription medications after diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis, some consider herbals, botanicals, vitamins and mineral supplements as a part of the long term management of rheumatoid arthritis. Vitamin and mineral supplements sometimes recommended for management of rheumatoid arthritis include zinc, copper, selenium, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.

Herbals and botanicals sometimes advised for the management of rheumatoid arthritis include ginger root, bromelain, feverfew, turmeric and mangosteen rind or puree (an exotic fruit native to Southeast Asia).

Studies have shown that the last one, the mangosteen, harbors anti-inflammatory properties and the rind of the mangosteen fruit has been shown to contain Cox-2 inhibitors, which have powerful pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. Many people in the Western world are now turning to substances like the mangosteen because they naturally contain Cox-2 inhibitors, and many people report experience pain alleviation.

Indeed, Dr. J Frederic Templeman, M.D. states: “In most types of arthritis the majority of mangosteen’s benefits will come from its anti-inflammatory effects because it blocks the COX enzymes that are pro-inflammatory.”

After diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis, doctors now realize that anti-inflammatory medications can have harmful effects on the digestive systems and may recommend additional testing after treatment begins.

For example, Dr. Templeman briefly addresses this issue by pointing out “….mangosteen doesn’t cause the dangerous gastrointestinal side effects of prescribed or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs.”

The health supplements and botanicals like ginger root and mangosteen may actually protect the digestive tract from damage. Indeed, they are often recommended by herbalists and naturalists for the treatment of heartburn and acid reflux.

Other recommendations for long term management of rheumatoid arthritis may include a regular exercise program, with regular rest periods. Exercising in water is particularly easy on and beneficial for the joints. Changes around the house, like replacing small drawer handles with larger ones, replacing round door knobs with the lever type and placing commonly used items on lower shelves may make life a little easier.

After diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis, only your doctor and you can make decisions about what treatment plans to include in the management of rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. Acupuncture, bee therapy and many other non-conventional therapies do exist.

Investigate and explore the many options that are out there and after consulting with your doctor, you decide.

For me, the daily use of natural alternatives like mangosteen made more sense in improving my health, but other people may decide differently.

Why Tanning Saloons Are The New Beauty Destination

Tanning is so much in fashion that tanning saloons are mushrooming everywhere. Young men and women frequently visit tanning saloons and use their tanning beds much more often than they did earlier.

Tanning is so much in fashion that tanning saloons are mushrooming everywhere. Young men and women frequently visit tanning saloons and use their tanning beds much more often than they did earlier.

Due to its popularity and the health issues related with it, government has laid down many regulations for tanning saloons and tanning beds. While home tanning is convenient and readily available, tanning saloons have some unique advantages including variety and safety.

There are five advantages of a tanning saloon over home equipment. These are:

1. Tanning saloons follow government regulations: Tanning saloons seek the approval from FDA for the tanning procedures and use of tanning beds and strictly follow them. They keep client’s record and history.

Tanning salon operators ascertain client’s ability to tan, history of sunburns, history of skin infections, rashes or other conditions and use of certain medications or cosmetics to prevent phototoxic and photo-allergic reactions. A tanning expert will use this information while planning your tanning exposure on the tanning bed of tanning saloon.

2. Use of Equipment Under Expert Guidance: At the tanning saloons, you use tanning beds and machines under the guidance and care of tanning experts. Well-trained tanning bed operators have thorough knowledge of the equipment and they can program the tanning bed according to individual client’s need. They will indeed control your dose of ultraviolet light and save you from its harmful effects.

3. Better Tanning beds: Tanning Saloons are equipped with sophisticated commercial tanning beds. Commercial tanning beds are more comfortable and safe. They have programmable knobs to control the amount and intensity of ultraviolet light.

You also have control on the tanning bed, especially to switch and open it, when feeling uncomfortable. Tanning salons also have additional equipments like an Oxygen Bar. This releases oxygen, which reacts with the skin and enhances the production of melanin for a better tan.

4. Various tanning modes: Tanning Saloons offer many tanning options. Besides tanning beds, they offer tanning booths, tanning lotions and tanning spray. These alternate methods are for the people who dislike the tanning beds. These alternate tanning options are often a better choice, especially if you are in a hurry.

5. Safety and Style in tanning saloons: Safety devices such as protective goggles are available in tanning salons for safe tanning. They also have tanning accessories such as tattoos and protective clothes. Tanning tattoos create stylish designs on the body by excluding the tattoo area from tanning.

It is therefore evident that while home tanning may be easier and simpler, professional tanning is more effective, safe and flexible. You may like to keep this in mind while weighing your tanning options and use the tanning beds.

The 10-Day Plan To Getting Your House Ready To Sell Privately

Fixing up, cleaning and polishing your home is a big part of selling it quickly. To get it in first-rate condition fast, here are some tips to help. You can either hire someone to complete them, or do them yourself. Either way, you?ll end up with a home that is in great shape.

Day 1

Today, start by cutting back the hedges. Getting rid of over- growth will open up the front of the house, so the buyers can see the house more easily. Next, cut and trim the lawn, and do any necessary weeding to the gardens. Sweep the driveway, and clean the outside lights. When the potential buyer pulls into the driveway for the first time, they will notice all your hard work!

Day 2

Get the paintbrush out! Chances are, the front door and the trim could use some fresh paint. If your home is more than 10 years old, you may consider updating the color combination. Color trends change over time, and a color change can update the appearance of your home.

Day 3

Get rid of the clutter. Any excess furniture can be stored, or simply disposed of. Extra clothes that don?t fit into closets or drawers need to be packed away. Kitchen and bathroom counters need to be cleared off. Any toys that regularly clutter the floor will need to be put away.

Day 4

Attack the kitchen. The kitchen is probably the most important room in the house from the buyer?s perception. You want it to appear bright, sparkling and spacious. A fresh coat of paint on the walls and ceiling can do wonders to freshen the appearance of a kitchen. If the cupboards are old, but in good physical shape, they can be repainted or re-stained. Clean the floor, and if it old and worn, you may consider replacing it.

Day 5 & 6

Paint the bathrooms. The best way to freshen up and update the bathroom is with a fresh coat of light colored, glossy paint. While bathroom renovations are expensive, a fresh coat of paint is affordable, and makes a huge impact.

Day 7

Clean, or paint the living and entry area. Walk through the house, and inspect the walls. Are they marked or scratched? Has the paint faded in spots? You probably won?t need to paint the ceiling- just be careful not to get any paint on it from the walls.

Day 8

Clean or paint the bedrooms. The same rules apply here as for the living areas.

Day 9

Wash the windows and clean the lights. Vacuum the drapes and get the dust off the blinds. Sparkling windows will make the entire house seem cleaner. Cleaning the dirt and grime from the light fixtures will increase their brightness, and make your whole home look cheerier.

Day 10

Have the carpets cleaned or replaced. If the carpeting is in good shape, the potential buyer will think the entire house is that way, as well. If your carpet is old and worn, you might consider replacing it. Even inexpensive new carpeting looks great. Always do the carpeting last- so you won?t have to worry about spilling any paint on it.

Now that all the hard work is done, you can rest for a day!

There will still be a few things that could use your attention. Any leaky faucets, wobbly doorknobs or squeaky hinges will need to be fixed. You might want to consider having a garage sale to get rid of closet clutter- plus it will make moving a lot easier!

Remember- first impressions count. You want the potential buyer to see your home in the best possible way.

Is Satellite Radio For You?

Well if you like to listen to music the answer is yes!

But you probably already have a radio that works quite nicely and are wondering why you might want to switch, right?

Satellite radio is a paid subscription - it works via a satellite feed so you can listen to the radio anywhere you want and there is no range restrictions so your favorite song won’t become garbled with static as you drive down the road out of range.
It works like satellite television, except it can travel with you. A satellite radio can go in your home, your car or you can carry it around with you. It provides crystal clear digital sound no matter where you are and is commercial free.

Satellite radio can really open up the range and choices of music. With satellite radio subscriptions, you typically have access to several music channels, which reach all genres and subgenres of music. The best providers will also provide you dozens of channels for the latest news, talk radio, and information, along with local traffic and weather forecasts and all the sports events you could want.

XM Radio is rapidly growing and services over 2 million listeners providing 68 music channels. With this satellite radio, you can get country, rap, classical, bluegrass, rock, reggae and most anything else you can imagine. IN addition, there are over 30 channels just for news , sports, talks shows and other entertainment programs that don’t include music. And if that’s not enough there is another couple of dozen channels that provide weather and traffic for most major cities.

If you want satellite radio you will need a reciever and antennae to pick up the satellite feed. This equipment is state of the art, and the best subscription services also offer AM and FM as well as CD accessibility. Satellite radio can be set up to work with your existing home entertainment system, in your car or as a portable that you can bring with you.

Some of the new satellite radios and receivers are quite small and lightweight and good for carrying around. All satellite receivers will conveniently display the channel, song title, and artist name. If it’s a sporting event, they abbreviations for each team will be shown so you can find that game you are looking for instantly instead of having to wait until the announcer mentions one of the teams.

Of course, satellite radio is perfect for listening to in the car since you won’t have to fiddle with tuning knobs or try to find a new station as you drive out or range of what you are listening. Coneniently, many new cars are coming equipped with satellite radio service and even offer it free for 30 days. Don’t worry, though if you don’t want to pay for the service after your trial is up, your radio receiver will still work with the usual AM and FM channels.

The first thing that you should do is pick a theme you will be happy with when you have finished decorating. Themes to suit all types of kitchens can be found everywhere from the TV and magazines to carrying out a search on the internet.

Once you have chosen the theme that you feel best suits your personality and your kitchen space then now you need to start look at how it is to be decorated.

Today your can decorate your kitchen in a variety of different themes and below we will be looking at some that you may want to consider.

1940’s Kitchen
This is a fun way to decorate your kitchen. By painting the cabinets, adding glass knobs rather than using more modern handles, plus vintage linens that have been combined with new appliances will give your kitchen that retro look but still providing you with a functional kitchen.

Rustic Mexican Look Kitchen
Such a design can be used by the introduction of rich colours and the use of pine which has been combined with wrought iron and decorative tiles in order to create a more authentic rustic Mexican looking kitchen.

A Rooster Decor Kitchen
First you need to paint the room a bright colour such as yellow and then include curtains in a solid colour such as orange or those with a floral print are a great addition to a rooster themed kitchen. Also to bring the rooster theme further to life add some rooster items such as dishes, placemats, canisters and pictures. If you are using dishes which have a rooster print on them then make sure the tablecloth you use is a solid colour and include a floral bouquet on the table when sitting down for a meal. Any canisters you have on show on work tops should also have a rooster motif on them.

As you can see the kitchen decorating theme that you decide upon depends on what you like and how much budget you have available. But luckily as many of us have access to the internet for shopping the chance of choosing a nice kitchen decorating theme has never been easier.

Shopping For Acoustic Guitars

Guitars are played expansively in all occasions, and are considered to be one of the ancient forms of music instrument. People learn it for hobby, interest, or various other reasons. Among the classical guitars, acoustic guitars are believed to be the contemporary lineage of the well known guitars.

Acoustic guitars do not need the support of electricity. Acoustic guitars produce lucid and loud sound. Recently, many forms of guitars have flooded the music market, yet acoustic guitars are more prominent as they are the successors of prevailing guitars. Customarily, all non electric guitars are recognized as acoustic guitars. Acoustic guitars promote the students in focusing on the basics of playing a proper sound without any sort of distractions from knobs or amplifiers that are invariably seen on electric guitars and can be a reason for distraction to beginners. Beginners can practice it anywhere as it is portable.

Acoustic guitars are produced using many types of materials right from environmental wood to plastic. People purchasing acoustic guitars give importance in understanding the materials used in the instrument. Acoustic guitars made of solid wood sides, tops and back are the priciest ones. Generally, guitars are made from rosewood or mahogany, the exclusive woods. The average variety guitars are made as a combination of solid tops with laminated sides or backs, and the lower side is made of laminated wood. Exclusive attention is given to the type of wood used and its construction. Guitar made of dried wood is considered to be the best guitar due to the nonexistence of moisture that can destroy the entire guitar in a short time.

Acoustic guitars are available in many varieties made of different species of woods. Acquiring an acoustic guitar involves checking every individual part of the guitar like the neck, the bridge, the body as well as the end blocks. It is very essential to have a perfect bridge unit as the part of the bridge that touches the strings produce vibrations transmitting improved sound quality. Bridges made of plastic are not worth buying as they fail to produce pleasing sound.

Rock band artists, folk groups, country music, and many other prominent guitarists use acoustic guitars as it produces astonishing sounds naturally. Amongst guitars the Dreadnought guitar is preferred by guitarists as it can be easily played with fingers. Technological developments and techniques have enhanced the quality and reliability of these instruments leading to more demand and availability at affordable prices.

Home Staging Tips to Help YOUR Home Sell in a Slower Market

Let’s face it; many real estate markets are experiencing a slow down the likes of which we haven’t seen for years. For a home seller this means setting the price right. But equally important is the concept of home staging. The first step is back to the basics: unclutter, fix and clean! But what is the second step and third?

In the Twin Cities market buyers have on average 25-50 homes that will meet their needs. A typical showing day with buyers will mean visiting 7-10 homes and buyers do get confused. As the day wears on, buyers start to distinguish homes by their characteristics. Some descriptions are not flattering. Recently I was with a buyer who was remembering homes as “the lizard home” and ” one with the Nasty bathroom”. That day there was also the house with “neon green room” and the ever, unpopular “retro house with the orange counters”. So what can you do to make your home memorable for the right reasons?

Paint Properly
If adjoining rooms are painted in the same color palette, hour home will appear more spacious. Don’t take short cuts. If you don’t have time or patience to properly tape trim and ceilings, hire a professional. Painted woodwork and ceilings are noticed and sometimes worse than not painting at all.

Go Luxurious
Invest in accessories to accent your home. Big, fluffy coordinating bathroom towels and mats warm up the bath. Fresh flowers on a beautifully set dining room table look inviting. A color-coordinated rug in the foyer will make a wonderful first impression.

Cush-up the Carpeting
Don’t replace the carpet on the cheap. Invest in the BEST padding you can find. Buyers will in most cases have to remove their shoes when walking through your home. In their stocking-feet, they will feel the difference!

Make it Match
Slipcovers are a quick and inexpensive way to update and coordinate mismatched furniture. Put away the old blankets and cozy up the room with a beautiful accent throw and a few pillows.

Empty the Closets
Make certain the closets are neat and organized. Replace and paint any shelves and organizers that appear dingy.

Replace Handles, Knobs and Switchplates
Inexpensive yes; but often overlooked. Handles that are outdated or missing and switchplates that are dirty or worn send the wrong impression. If they are replaced to look new and shiny, it shows that you pay attention to the details of your home.

Pack the Personal Items
The Elvis collection has to be packed! Likewise, take down the annual school photos of Junior from age 5 to 18. Use the “3 in any direction” rule. No more than three accent pieces should be able to be seen in any direction. Anymore than three is a distraction. If your photos or collection was on the wall, remember to patch the holes and repaint.

The Sun Shines When Windows Sparkle
In feng shui teaches that windows are consider the “eyes of the home” Make sure your windows are sparkling clean inside and out. Avoid the use of vinegar as a cleaner, as the smell may linger.

Before you scoff at spending money on a home you no longer plan to live in, remember this…It is still your home until it sells. It is in many cases your biggest financial investment. Consider it as a small investment for a big pay off or in this case, sale, in the end.

Have Your Own Christmas Decorating Ideas

Whenever the months ending on ?ber starts, it triggers the upcoming holiday season. People then starts on thinking some ways on how to decorate their homes, the streets or even on their offices.

Since Christmas is a yearly occasion, it is not practical to buy Christmas decorations every year. So what can you do to complete the aura of this festivity without spending too much? All you need is to have bright holiday decorating ideas and recycle those old decorating stuffs you had last year.

Easy and Affordable Holiday Decorating Ideas

1. Do you have old teddy bears hidden on your cabinets? Take them out because this is their time to shine. If you have three or more teddy bears, arrange them on a table, top of the chimney wall or under your Christmas tree. Dress these teddies with green scarves and red mittens. You can wrap empty boxes with Christmas wrappers and place them on the lap of these teddies or you could just place Christmas candies on these teddies? hands.

2. Regarding your Christmas tree, you could decorate it the old-fashioned way. Nuts that are wrapped with aluminum foil along with pine cones sprayed with gold paint will give a vintage look. You could accessorize it with red and green ribbons plus white paper strips as snowflakes to give a more Christmas aura.

3. Get an empty glass clear jar. Place an old angel figurine on the cap of the jar using a glue stick or mighty bond. Cut small star shaped and pine tree shaped pieces on a green, red, yellow aluminum foils. Fill the jar with clear water and pour in the cut aluminum foils in the jar. Now close the jar with the cap and place it upside down making the cap of the jar as the base.

4. Decorate your doors with flowers and ribbons. You could do your own poinsettia flowers with colored papers and put some glitters on it to add Christmas effect and place it on the top center of your door. For the doorknobs, you could tie some ribbons on it.

5. Create Christmas photo frames. With the use of illustration boards, you could create your own photo frames. Use the black portion of the illustration board and spray it with silver or gold paint. Put your last year?s Christmas pictures on it.

6. Design your streets with a family of snowman, each representing a member of your family. Dress them up with scarves and different characteristics that describe each member.

7. How about your office table? Why not pick up the mugs on your table and accessorize it with ribbons and Christmas decorations. You could paint it as well like painting a snowman with candy bar on the surface of the mug and tie a ribbon on the handle of the mug.

8. You could as well cover your office table with Christmas wrappers and place underneath its glass cutouts of your pictures. Cut these pictures on varying sizes such as star-shaped, pine-tree shaped, or snowman shaped.

These are just a few of the many decorating ideas you could come up to in accessorizing your place with Christmas ornaments.

Looking for a (iron art knob) pump for your pond?

Filed under: Texas Knobs N' Things — Admin @ 5:20 am

Looking for a pump for your pond?

Spring will be here soon, and many of you will either be looking for a pump for your pond, or be looking to replace a non-functional pump.

The pump is one of the most important features of a pond, because without a pump, there will not be any trickling or moving water, and you will effectively have a bog. If you choose the wrong pump, your water will either not flow the way you desire, or you may have insufficient flow to filter your water and/or feed your waterfall. Therefore, it is worth taking the time to choose the proper pump to suite your needs. The first question you should ask yourself is: “What functionalities do I require from my pump?” Are you using your pump to drive a waterfall? Do you have a statue? Or do you need a pump to circulate your water and drive a filter?

Many people require a pump merely to circulate and filter their water. It is recommended that you circulate your pond water at least twice every hour to ensure that mosquitoe larvae do not accumulate in stagnant water. Thus, you should measure the number of gallons in your pond and obtain a pump that pumps at least twice that volume every hour (I.e. the gallons per hour rating, or GPH, should be twice that of the pond volume). If your pump needs to feed a biological and/or mechanical filter (E.g. submersible, pressurized, and above-ground filters), make sure that you consult the manual for the filter to determine the minimal required water flow to run the filter.

You will need to increase your pump rating to accommodate both fish and waterfalls. Calculating the proper pump for waterfalls is a bit trickier, because waterfall pumps are rated by both GPH and maximum waterfall height. To estimate your waterfall’s height, you must measure the vertical height from the top of your pump to the top of your waterfall or stream. In addition, you must add another foot of height or lift for every 10 feet of hosing you will be using (to account for loss of volume from hose resistance). The general rule of thumb is that each inch of width of the channel will require an extra 100 GPH. For example, if your stream or waterfall spillway will be 10 inches wide, you will need a pump that generates an additional 1000 GPH of flow at your waterfall’s height. One affordable line of pumps that we recommend is the Algreen MaxFlo line of waterfall pumps. These pumps (rated at 2200 GPH and 3170 GPH) are powerful submersible units that can fit into any skimmer.

Go to http://www.gardensupermart.com/buypond/c230094p16750414.2.html for more information about the Algreen MaxFlo.

If you wish to feed water into a statue, you will need a smaller pump that has a large head (I.e. maximum pumping height), and preferably an adjustable flow control. The highest quality pumps that we have found are the SICCE magnet-driven statuary pumps. These pumps have a built in sponge filter, vibration-damping rubber pads that allow them to run in absolute silence, suction cups at the bottom to increase their stability, and variable flow-rate adjustment knobs. The SICCE statuary/fountain pumps vary from 60 GPH up to 468 GPH and can generate maximum heights of up to 7′ and 4″”. The various models in the SICCE line include the Extrema, Irda, Nova, Micra Plus, Micra, and the Mi-Mouse.

Go to http://www.gardensupermart.com/buypond/c230094p16500776.2.html for more information about SICCE statuary pumps.

If you have multiple pond considerations, or you’re not sure which pump to choose, you can always go with a multi-purpose pump. Magnet-driven multi-purpose pumps usually come with mechanical pre-filters to trap large debris, variable flow control, built-in fountain with various fountain heads, and diverter values to allow you to split your output flow into multiple devices (E.g. watercourses, statues, and larger external filters). Several examples of multi-purpose pumps include the Shott Nursery Pro, Algreen SuperFlo, and the Algreen UltraFlo.

Go to GardenSM.com and save up to 70% on Shott Nursery Pro multi-purpose pumps! For more information, click on http://www.gardensupermart.com/buypond/c230094p16738392.2.html

Before you start building your pond, you should take the time to consider the many pump options available. Make sure you shop around to find the most affordable and the most effective pump to meet all of your requirements.

Tennis Shoes: A Buyer?s Guide (laurey)

Filed under: Texas Knobs N' Things — Admin @ 11:10 pm

Tennis Shoes: A Buyer?s Guide

While the term ?tennis shoes? is commonly used in reference to athletic shoes of any type, you should not wear running shoes, walking shoes, or cross-trainers when playing tennis. These types of shoes do not provide the correct support and can increase the risk of foot and ankle injuries. In addition, such shoes can also damage the tennis court surface.

There are several criteria tennis players should consider when selecting tennis shoes. First, the court surface you primarily play on will dictate the type of tennis shoe you need. Second, the characteristics of your feet and body will determine what type of tennis shoe is most comfortable and effective. Finally, as with any type of shoe, different people value certain shoe attributes and qualities more than others.

Tennis players that play on hard court surfaces should choose tennis shoes that are durable and resistant to wear. Repeated play on hard (i.e. concrete) courts will wear the tread off the soles of tennis shoes. Loss of tread leads to loss of traction and increased slipping. In addition, the part of the tennis shoe that covers the big toes should have extra protection on the outside. Tennis players often drag their toe while executing shots, especially the serve. It is crucial for right-handed players that the inside toe area of their right tennis shoe have extra protection to prevent premature wear. This area of the tennis shoe is particularly vulnerable because most right-handed players drag their right foot when serving, and often when executing forehand groundstrokes.

Tennis players that play primarily on soft court surfaces (i.e. clay) should select tennis shoes that are comfortable and provide good traction. Durability is less of a concern. It is also vital that the tennis shoe have a smooth, flat sole. The knobs and bumps found on the soles of running shoes and cross-trainers can damage clay court surfaces. In fact, most clay court facilities do not allow players to wear such shoes, instead requiring appropriate tennis shoes.

Feet and body characteristics are an important consideration when selecting tennis shoes. People who are prone to blisters must wear tennis shoes that fit properly and are well cushioned. Advances in tennis shoe technology have created cushioning systems that are lighter, more comfortable, and better at removing moisture. Body type is also an important consideration in tennis shoe selection. For example, larger and heavier players may prefer heavier shoes that provide extra support.

Finally, as with all types of shoes, personal preference and taste often determines what type of tennis shoe a person purchases. Many players desire a tennis shoe with a certain look or color scheme. On a more functional level, some players may select lightweight tennis shoes in an effort to enhance foot speed and agility.

After you determine the type of tennis shoe is right for you, it is important to select a shoe that fits properly. Because tennis involves a lot of sprinting, cutting, stopping, and starting, you should select a tennis shoe that fits snugly across the width of the foot. You should, however, make sure that your tennis shoes have at least a half-inch of space between the toes and the end of the tennis shoe.

Is It Fake Or Is It Rolex? (whitehaus)

Is It Fake Or Is It Rolex?

Is it fake or is it Rolex? How will you know? Watches are sold every single day online that look like Rolexes, sound like Rolexes, and even have movement that looks very much like Rolex movement. But how will you know for sure?

There are predators out there right now that will RIP YOU OFF and not even think twice about it. What’s even more scarry are the nice people selling watches that they actually think are Rolexes. If you are going to buy a Rolex, do yourself a huge favor and protect yourself against fraud. You NEED to know what it is your buying. Is it fake or is it Rolex?

Before you spend thousands of dollars on a Rolex you must learn how to identify a real Rolex from a fake. Not only will this potentially save you a ton of money it’s also alot of fun to learn. I found an amazing resource on Rolex watches that you can get online right now. It’s not free, it will cost you $19.99, but the information is priceless if you are in the market for a Rolex.

Go now and buy this ebook. You can buy the Rolex ebook here.

Now for the next step in your purchase, where to buy your Rolex. You can go to your local retailer. This is the safest way, but it’s also the most expensive. When I bought my Rolex, here in California, the dealer would not negotiate at all. This is the price, you want it or not?

I just sold my Rolex on eBay, and im buying my next one on eBay. The reason im going to buy my next Rolex on eBay is bacause with their feedback system I can be 99% sure that the person I buy my Rolex from can be trusted. I will find a dealer that has previous feedback from other Rolexes he has sold. This way I know im dealing with someone in the know.

The second reason I’m buying my next rolex on eBay is because I will save a couple thousand dollars on it. There are dealers on eBay that sell used Rolexes for close to half of the price of a new one. From personal experience I can tell you that Rolexes are near indistructable. I had mine for 3 years and i banged that thing into door knobs, door mouldings, desk drawers, you name it. Of course I never banged my watch on anything on purpose, just in the course of everyday life i’d catch it on this and that.

When you buy your Rolex look for one that has as many of the origional papers with it as you can. I had all the origional papers for mine and i got about an extra $400 out of mine just because I had them.

Below are a few current auctions from eBay. I look at these everyday looking for my next watch and I encurage you to bookmark this page right now so you can keep an eye on current auctions also.

If you have any questions about Rolexes I encourage you to email me at Aaron@e-bookdepository.com. I enjoy talking about rolexes so please drop email me if you are buying or selling or just want to talk about watches. Just be sure to tell me in your email where you got my email address =). Talk to ya soon.

Home Inspections - 10 Things to Keep in Mind During Your Inspection

In discussions with novice and experienced inspectors, the same things come up over and over again. Here are ten things you should keep in mind as the inspection is conducted.

1. Have realistic expectations about the home.

A limited understanding of aging in older homes can create stress in purchasers, who might expect a greater degree of perfection than would typically be possible.

Everyone knows that there is a difference between a 100 year old house and a newer home. Older houses perform differently, and were built to different standards. Older homes age differently based on era of construction.

A perfect example of this is a basement that was originally built of stone, then packed with mortar and parged to make a more water-resistant area. Although it still leaks, this is an average 100 year old basement, which would not be considered acceptable in a 20 year old home. Or consider that an older septic bed or weeping tile system is more susceptible to problems than a newer one.

Even though there are norms for aging in homes that make pretty good general guidelines, each house has its own unique personality that you need to understand and respect.

2. Keep your emotions in check.

You want to avoid feeling roller coaster highs and lows when major expense items are identified by the inspector. Keeping your emotions in check allows you to absorb more information and to keep from getting overwhelmed by ?all the little things?.

As a purchaser, you must remember that your feelings on the building are not relevant to the inspector?s actual report. The inspector is required to report on every defect that he finds, but the inspector should also put things into context for you.

Of course, a good inspector will not over-express his personal feelings and opinions about a house, and what should be done with the house. The inspector should not lose sight of what the homebuyer may be thinking or feeling in order to help his client make an informed assessment. This allows the inspector to explain the things that need extra clarification.

3. There is no such thing as a defect-free home.

A brand new structure will have some items in need of correction, and the most immaculately kept home will also have some issues that could use some improvement. There is no home ever inspected that required no ink on the inspection report.

The inspector is attempting to educate you on all of the little things that need to be done, and he also has the overall goal of helping you identify major expense items. While it may seem like the inspector is picking on your purchase decision, he is really just trying to pack as much information as he can into the limited time frame that he has to spend with you. Remember that it is important to keep things in context.

Inspectors want to give their clients a lot of useful and relevant information on the property, but sometimes, even when there aren?t any major issues, it is possible that some inspectors may go overboard by individually describing all the little things. It may only be a window screen here, and a door knob over there, but after a long descriptive analysis of several details, you may arrive at the conclusion that “My God! There are a lot of things wrong with this house!”

A good inspector will not waste everyone’s time and emotional capacity discussing every doorknob and screen in the house. You should be told verbally, and in writing, that there are “one or more” or “some” or “several” minor repairs or improvements required on doorknobs or window screens, or whatever.

4. You need to understand the most important items now.

It is a good idea to differentiate between what you what is critical to know now, and what you can clarify after you move in.

For example, in the inspector?s efforts to ensure that you successfully accomplish a maintenance activity on your new home, he may tell you how easy it is and possibly explain how to do it. Keep in mind that he is telling you for information purposes, and that you will need additional guidance or instruction when actually doing it for yourself.

5. The inspection procedure is the same every time.

The inspector follows a systematic method of examining and reporting on items, so he will lead you through the house and how you things in a particular order. This consistency of approach is the method that he uses to cover all of the countless items that he must examine.

If you consistently ask questions about things that the inspector has not yet had a chance to discuss, then you will throw him off and he may forget to explain something of note.

This is not meant to dissuade you from asking pertinent questions to help clarify things in your mind. If you are wondering “What the heck is he talking about now?? then you need to ask the inspector to explain. While you can telephone your inspector at any time, you have the perfect opportunity to share his time now.

For example, if he is discussing basement dampness and you ask about the electrical system, he should redirect your attention to the topic at hand, and then discuss the electrical when the time comes.

6. Pay attention.

This sounds obvious, but every inspector has encountered a time when they have given their clients a big explanation about why something should be done, or not done, only to find out later that they completely missed (or misinterpreted) a key point. If a homebuyer isn’t listening, the message simply does not get through.

The inspection is an important time, designed to inform you and save you money in the short and long term. If you are distracted by anything (children, relatives, friends, etc), you may not get some important information. Do not consider the inspection a good opportunity to show the home to important people in your life.

If there are too many people saying too many things all at once, don’t be shy to politely ask for some space to consult with your inspector. The inspector may also redirect your attention to the business at hand.

7. The inspector is a generalist, not a specialist.

The inspector knows how to diagnose problems, but the smart inspector does not offer solutions if he is not completely conversant in the matter at hand. He should guide you to consult a specialist if the matter involves a more thorough analysis.

However, all inspectors have a specialty. If he is a licensed electrician, then you will get more information on electrical issues than if he is an engineer.

8. The inspection is the only thing the inspector knows about.

Most of the issues involving a home purchase have nothing to do with the inspection. Unless he is being paid to pump a septic tank or test a well, you’re probably a little off-track talking about it. If you ask where the boundary lines are or what the home value is, you should be told by the inspector that he doesn?t know. These discussions won’t accomplish anything at the moment, and it’s something you would be better off discussing with your agent or lawyer.

Think about the big picture, keeping in mind that buying a house is a big project, and the inspector is only paid to be involved in one part of it.

9. Have fun.

It isn?t every day that you get to buy a home. Enjoy the process as best as you can. Lighten up. There is a lot of work and angst involved in home inspections and home buying, and adding stress will take away from your effectiveness in understanding the inspection and making decisions.

10. Follow up.

If your inspector directs you to follow up on issues with another specialist, be it for termites, wood stoves, insurance or other issues, it is incumbent upon you to do so. This is not a case of the inspector passing the buck, but a case of making you aware of issues that require further investigation.

There are also going to be areas that are disclaimed due to restricted access. Focus on these as soon as you can so that you can find out if anything was hidden from view.

If you are told to do some maintenance and fail to do so, there may be negative consequences. As an example, failing to caulk the bathtub or re-grout the tiles could result in a simple case of rot, or plaster could fall with damage to furnishings or personal injuries. The inspector may not warn you of all possible consequences, because he expects that you will do your due diligence with respect to repairs or maintenance.

Germs Don’t Cause Disease, You Do

We once had an in-office day care. It was complete with a classroom, an area sectioned off for indoor play, kitchen and outside playground equipment. There was a full-time monitor/teacher and lots of little munchkins around the office interrupting us during the course of the day.

It was healthy and nice for moms and dads to be able to interact with their children during the day. If you own a business, think about doing this. If you are an employee, get together with coworkers to see what you can do to help the business you work for get one established. We operated ours for almost a decade, until most of the youngsters grew up. Several of them have even come back to work with us as young adults. We became like a home away from home.

I was the official sliver surgeon for all the kids. Our office is in a wooded area so almost every week there was a sliver drama. That’s when I got to perform my magic with terrifying instruments like a scalpel, forceps, needle and magnifying glasses. My little patients tried to be real brave and fight back tears, but their dilated pupils and clammy trembling hands revealed the true life threatening state they found themselves in. All the other kids were a wide-eyed and awed audience for these major surgical events. It was just like The Learning Channel surgery programs, but with a Sesame Street flair and a little less blood and guts. Once my patient’s survival was assured, there were lots of hugs and thanks. Then off they would all skip, relieved that their friend had survived one of life’s dire and perilous calamities. They could be heard around the building all abuzz with, “Did it hurt?” “I saw the blood!” “You were brave!” “How big was it?” “Glad that wasn’t me!”

Actually, everyone would be pretty brave about this except my own kids. To listen to them when I am removing a sliver not even visible except with magnification, you would swear I was working on a 2 x 4 with vice grips or sawing their limb off with a chain saw. No need to be brave when it’s Dad who’s working on you.

As I would work on sweaty, grubby little hands, I wondered how kids ever survive childhood with all the filth. If germs were really the true cause of disease, how could any of us survive? Do we really think washing our hands with antiseptic soap, disinfecting toilet seats, doorknobs and telephones, wearing surgeon-type face masks on the streets and getting vaccinated keeps all of the germs at bay?

One E. coli bacterium can produce four billion offspring by the next morning. Viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and parasites are ubiquitous throughout nature in air, water, on surfaces, skin, food and ground. They are microscopic and in countless numbers. Just one gram of soil contains over a billion microorganisms. If you shoveled just one cubic meter of dirt, 35 pounds of it would be these microscopic critters. Some are pathogens; others are necessary for our survival. Without bacteria to consume garbage, we would have long ago been smothered under the refuse nature and we create.

Good bacteria (probiotics) on our skin and in our mouths and intestinal tract actually help thwart the bad bacteria. Disease causing pathogens can even exert a beneficial effect by stimulating immunity. That is the principle of vaccines. The thing that it seems science is trying to achieve - no bacteria at all - with obsessive disinfection and sterilization is neither possible nor beneficial.

For example, scientists attempting to rid chickens of salmonella (food-borne pathogens) tried a sterile environment. The result was that mortality increased because the chicken’s immune system could not develop properly without exposure to the pathogens it needed to be protected against. Germ-free chickens were fine so long as there were absolutely no germs around. But since that would never be possible, once exposed to the pathogens they would easily succumb to disease and die. The solution was to feed baby chicks the salmonella infested droppings of the mother hens. After all the sterility failed, they found the cure was in the filthy poop! (Wysong, R. L. Salmonella Enteritidis Infection From Eggs, Wysong e-Health Letter, September 1999.)

We could never sterilize the world if we wanted to. If we did it would result in our demise. The microbe paranoia serves primarily the interests of drug, vaccine and disinfectant manufacturers. (I am not suggesting reasonable hygiene is not in order.)

I hear you, “Yeah, but we would be having the plague and other epidemics if it weren’t for medicine.” Contrary to popular belief, diseases like polio, measles and typhus were not conquered by humans. Note in the accompanying graphs that the vaccine or chemotherapeutic agent that is credited with vanquishing the scourges was introduced after the majority of the decline in the disease had already occurred! (Why Modern Medicine is the Greatest Threat to Health http://www.wysong.net/health/hl_884.shtml) It would be like me taking credit for dropping the tide by bucketing water out of the ocean as the tide was receding. Infectious diseases have a natural ebb and flow and so does the general immunity of the population. That is the reason epidemics decline regardless of human intervention.

We can’t even eradicate the mosquito, a creature which we can see and for which we can examine every life stage in detail. How are we going to eradicate microorganisms, which, if crowded side-by-side, would number in the trillions to occupy the space of one mosquito?

Look at the creatures in the wild co-existing, and even thriving in what we would consider filth. Rabbits eat their stool, vultures eat rotten carcasses, and dogs will roll in the most putrid, decaying material they can find and then lick themselves clean and offer the perfumery to their friends to lick as well.

Children constantly have their fingers in their mouths after wallowing on the floor, playing in the toilet or exploring the garbage pail. We adults aren’t exactly sterile in our habits either. Up until relatively recently a bath once a year was considered plenty in western society. That or less is common elsewhere in the world to this day. Billions wipe themselves with their fingers (usually with the left hand, a good reason to shake with the right) and yet live in societies that rank higher on health scores than nations with bidets, perfumed toilet paper and disinfectant aerosols and soaps.

Don’t buy the simplistic germ-view of how we get disease. True, certain pathogenic organisms can be associated with disease, but likewise so are crows and buzzards associated with road kill. The buzzard is not responsible for the road kill, neither are the pathogenic organisms responsible for disease. They are both opportunists. They wait until the prey is weakened and then they dive in. In microcosm, infectious disease is like the carnivore-prey drama occurring throughout nature. Predators always choose the easiest meal: the unfit, the weak and disabled.

We are not victims. Disease does not strike us. The opposite view that disease is a result of virulent microorganisms lurking in our environment waiting to attack us, organisms we can’t even see much less understand, makes us dependent on experts who have a vested interest in our illness. No matter how much money we give them, they will not protect us from the dark germ forces in spite of their Star Wars antiseptics, vaccinations, antibiotics and chemotherapeutic agents.

We are in control of our own defenses. We either create the setting for health or the meal for pathogens. Our choice.

Reading body language

Even the ancients claimed that you have to pay attention to a womans gestures instead of what she says. Generally if a lady says yes she of course means no. And the situation is the same on the way around.

A gesture is a gesture
Body language is a discipline about non-verbal behavior, there are more and more followers of it all over the world. Among them there are respected scientists who attach less and less significance to words and places the emphasis in communication on the role of body language. Reportedly this way it is possible to tell much more and even to learn much more information about the partner. Gestures, body language and intonation affect the communication at a proportion of more than 90%. Words as such prove to be insufficient in a successful communication. It seems to be simple, but despite this fact there are still a great number of inapprehensive men. They dont pay attention to the womens behavior, swallow every word they say, and muck up the opportunity of further developing their acquaintances. But womens gestures are univocal! The experts of non-verbal behavior can only distinguish two types of womens behavior. One carries the information that the woman does not feel like having sex. The other one means that she does. So women exploit body language and launch such codes that men have a very difficult job to tell what they are thinking of in fact. It would be so palpable to tell everything using words. Ill try to help you avoid misunderstandings: Ive put together a guide with the help of which beginners and advanced users are able to decode the behavior of every attractive woman.

1. She pushes her fingers through her hair
Clean and neat hair is as important for a woman as acceptable height, wide shoulders and biceps for a man. The woman who grooms her hair with high care expresses that she is full of energy and feels like doing certain family-friendly activities. Those that are familiar with body language claim that when a woman is regulating her hair she tries to call mens attention upon herself. If she repeats this activity three times within a minute you can be sure that she would really love to be conquered. The way she touches her hair is also very important. It tells you information about her temperament. If she does it slowly you have encountered a cunning expert of the art of love. Quick, nervy movements disclose impatience or embarrassment.

2. She touches the edge of the glass with her fingers
Freudian psychologists interpret it as a sexual sign. This theory is supported by the women themselves, who claim that they deliberately pet the glass, in order to call the chosen mans attention upon themselves. When you enter a bar and see a full-bosomed blonde touching and caressing her martini glass so that itd scream, do not think that she is expressing her musicality this way. Dont ask her whether she is playing the latest hit of Iglesias. This question would not be appropriate. Instead of asking stupid questions, notice the way she is playing the musical instrument. Elegant, caressing movement is a sign of intrinsic calmness, self-control and waiting, so sit by her. Her beating a rhythm on the glass with her nails is a sign of impatience or a broad hint of SOS, which shes sending to her boyfriend, who is fighting for another Baileys at the bar.

3. She leans on her elbow
According to Aristotle a womans hand tells us the most information. According to experts of body language women disclose what they think of us with their gestures. If she leans on her hand with her chin and her eyes seem to be thinking, its not always the sign of her being impressed by your appearance. Generally the woman tries to answer her own question this way: Does this guy deserve me? You do know the answer, but the lady needs time. If you want to help her make the only right decision, be politely determinate and determinately polite. Flash your sense of humor as well.

4. She sits back with her arms crossed together
This is the worst possible that you can encounter in a bar or disco, when youre out hunting. This gesture is the evidence of the fact that youve had the worst impression of all on the woman and she doesnt trust you at all. Nothing helps here, neither refined jokes, nor nice, muscular body. The best method at the beginning of the fight for her grace is to ask her what shes drinking at the moment. Dont buy her a drink for a start because this way shes going to think that this guy has no fantasy at all.

5. She wets her lips
If a woman wets her lips quite frequently, its absolutely a sexual sign, unless she has herpes. According to anthropologists women give us to understand that they wouldnt mind us putting something between their wet lips. Hope you know what.

6. She delves in her nose
Youre wrong if you think that this is a sign of her sexual appetite. Scientist have been arguing for years about the meaning of this gesture. According to one group of scientists the lady is underbred. On the other hand the other group thinks the finger in the nose symbolizes the gross hairs of the thighs and lap.

7. She lashes her eye-lashes
According to famous experts of the topic and authors of cheap romantic stories the fast movement of the eye-lashes is the sign of women who like to conquer men of their own accord. Besides they are emancipated, who like to take over the duty of initiation. They arent waiting for your jokes and wide smile. They undertake to initiate. The only problem with such ladies is that not all of them will enjoy herself in the role of the doped out game. But if you dont mind losing the role of the hunter, swallow the bait.

8. She lets her legs swing
Researchers of body language emphasize that when a woman frequently crosses her legs or let them swing, is also a sexually charged movement. The strongest of all these movements is when she opens her legs without meaning it. Its a classical Freudian opening symbol. (You must remember Sharon Stone opening her legs in such a beautiful way in Basic Instinct.) A contrary sign to this is when she puts her legs together. You have to interpret her choosing of shoes in a similar way. It is very important which pair of shoes she chooses to wear the given day. The more open the shoes are the more willing she is to open.

9. She dances with her hands
Having gauged the womans face and body most men concentrates on her hands. This is the most natural and normal thing to do well-groomed long fingers, well-painted nails are significant erotic signs. However, the way the woman herself thinks of her hands is also very important. If she stares at them for a very long time, it may imply that something angers her (perhaps you?). if she beats the rhythm on the table or the bar means a similar state of mind. You think shes a wild cat, but youre wrong. Shes thinking about a way how she could get rid of you.

10. She bites her lips
When a woman is biting your lips, do not interrupt her everythings alright. But if shes biting hers, you may assume that shes nervous. Why? Perhaps you are staring at her too quizzing.

+1 Finally
From the paragraphs above you can see that each and every movement and gesture of a woman carry sexual meaning for a healthy man.

Feel her soul
You look at the woman and you dont have the least idea what she wants from you. If you notice one of the hereunder mentioned ways of behavior, it means that theres one thing that she wants from you, closer acquaintance, or even maybe sex.

She leers at you, laughs loudly, ogles, wets her lips, knobs her breasts or hip, listens to you very carefully, walks proudly, waves her hip, her style is eye-catching, crosses her legs and then puts them back, hides her face, pushes her fingers through her hair, enters your private area, touches herself (smoothes out her stocking or plays with the button of her blouse), touches the object of her interest, exaggerates her make-up or perfume, dresses up too elegant, whispers or tries to create an intimate environment some other way, stares at you too intensively, gauges you with her eyes and tries to stay tte–tte with you.

* Long coats and dresses require a considerable amount of full-length hanging space, usually calculated at a maximum height of 5ft 3in (1.6 m);

* T-shirt, jeans, sweaters, shirt, hats and handbags need either many shallow shelves or drawers measuring 1ft by 1ft 10in. Deep shelves tend to result in piles that fall over.

* Wardrobe depths should be at least 2 ft (60 cm) to hold a full-sized coat hanger complete with clothes handing on it.

* Wardrobes heights up till ceiling are recommended though you think you won’t need the space. It’s guaranteed that these will soon be filled with bulky, awkward things.

The Wardrobe as Bedroom Storage Solution

Free-standing wardrobes can be challenging to integrate. This is because they take up a large amount of space and are rarely designed to work with your particular clothing problems.
The obvious alternative is a fitted wardrobe, or a combination of cupboards and wardrobe. You may break the wall of doors up with color, architectural details and carefully chosen knobs.
You may also have fitted cupboards with staggered units of varying depths. The doors can be furnished with large and striking handles for a sense of drama.

Alternative Bedroom Storage Ideas

Although shelves, hanging rails and drawers are the most conventional forms of storage, there are other bedroom storage ideas, including boxes, baskets, free-standing rails, and even bags. And storage solutions do not necessarily have to be expensive - shelves divided into different section, for example, can provide a good basic system, as can different heights of hanging rail, perhaps screened from view by a curtain or blind.
Storage space can extend beyond the confines of a single dedicated unit:

* Beneath the bed - the space that can be used, either shallow containers or built in unit.

* Under stairs, sloping roof or obscure corners - shelving
units

* Spare bedroom, corridor, hall - the space can be annexed to include a walk-in wardrobe or dressing area

A Guide To Jewelry Boxes

Taking care of your jewelry begins with proper storage. There are certain damages you can cause by being careless about where you put the pieces when they are not in use. Aside from the risks of theft or of losing them, you expose them to many elements that could lessen their luster or cause irreversible imperfections.

A jewelry box is an essential part of collecting jewelry. It can help you organize the pieces. For example, putting sharp metal-based pieces in a compartment separate from the precious stones to prevent scratches or chips.

Choosing a Box

When choosing a jewelry box, price and design may be among your first considerations, but also consider how the material of the box will react with your jewelry. For example, wood reacts with silver, causing it to tarnish. To solve this problem, wooden boxes must have a lining, usually velvet.

The size of the box should also be part of the equation. If you are planning to build your collection, you must have a box large enough to accommodate the different pieces you will acquire.

A jewelry box may come in paper, plastic, metal or wood. Of these, wood is the material of choice for elegant pieces. The classic look of handcrafted hardwoods like mahogany, maple, elm, and cherry, compliments the beauty of the jewelry pieces. The boxes often have solid brass or gold-plated hinges, locks, and knobs to complete the look. Other more lavish designs feature leather or animal skin.

Expensive and expertly crafted jewelry boxes last a long time. Their value increases through the years, as well. Italian jewelry boxes made from traditional materials fetch several thousand dollars. This is the reason why serious jewelry collectors are also keen jewelry box enthusiasts. They know that the boxes themselves are valuable in their own right, making them an important part of the collection.

Advice On Dealing With A Defective Car Seat And Getting Help

The automobile market can be intimidating, and if you are just starting out in the wonderful world of wheels you may need advice on buying your first car. There are so many options for car buyers: new or used, red or blue, sports car or SUV, two or four doors?and that is just for starters! Also, as a new car buyer you need to be wary of advice on buying your first car, because there are still quite a few snake-oil salesmen out there in the automotive market looking to sell you a lemon. Following you will find some solid advice on buying your first car.

The first consideration for anyone who wants to buy his or her first car is usually whether to buy new or used. Many first car buyers are young people who are just starting out, so the necessity of buying used is often present. Advice on buying your first car new from a showroom is fairly straightforward: buy from a reputable dealer, research the best type of vehicle for you, and seek out the best deals including free extras, low interest and rebates. However, if you plan to buy a used vehicle, where should you look to avoid getting taken advantage of? Most car dealerships also sell ?gently used? cars, usually those that have been previously leased. When these are out of your price range, there are also many used car lots with lower-priced second-hand vehicles. Look for a car dealer who is willing to do all the necessary repair work to get your first car in top running condition, and who also has all the necessary certifications to be in business. Ask whether you can talk to other people who have bought cars from the dealer and find out if they have had major problems with the vehicle. Always test-drive a car before you buy!

When it comes to the car itself, there are a number of things you should check out on your first car. You can examine the tires, the body and the interior on sight and look for possible problems. When considering the tires, be alert for rips and gouges and demand replacements for poor tires or ask for a lower purchase price. Also, uneven wear on tires indicates an alignment or suspension problem, in which case you should tell the dealer to perform the repairs before you will consider buying. On the body of the car, a few dents and scratches won?t affect the performance - but several of them could indicate the car has been in an accident. Also, rust along the bottom of doors or on the frame can attack the structure of the vehicle. Excessive rust is a bad sign. Check the interior of the car thoroughly for missing mirrors, frayed seatbelts, loose knobs and switches that don?t work. Test the audio system as well. Any of these points can be used as a bargaining tool to lower the asking price!

With any used vehicle, you should always obtain a used car report such as those from CARFAX. This information will tell you whether there are any outstanding liens, holds, or fines associated with the vehicle, and whether it?s been involved in an accident.

What is the best advice on buying your first car? Take your time, and have fun. With some careful research and a bit of the right knowledge, you can soon say, ?This is my car!?

Selling Your Home — 11 Tips For Proper Preparation (iron art swing pull)

Selling Your Home — 11 Tips For Proper Preparation

Selling a home an be a daunting experience, especially if it’s your first time. But with the right preparation, you can easily increase the likelihood of a sale — and possibly increase your net proceeds as well.

Here then are 11 low-cost tactics that will enhance your home, inside and out.

1. Make the entrance inviting.

A home?s entrance carries significant meaning, both symbolically and structurally. It?s where the homeowner leaves the outside world behind and enters the comfort and sanctuary of home. Treat it accordingly.

2. Remove clutter.

Clutter (too many appliances in the kitchen, too many pictures and knickknacks on the tables, etc.) makes a home seem smaller than it is. It can also put too much of a personal touch on the house. Clear away everything but a few, well-placed design elements.

3. Clean, clean and clean some more.

As a general rule, you can never clean too much before showing your house. This goes hand in hand with the clutter concept above — the cleaner a house, the easier it is for buyers to see themselves in it. It makes the house mentally “transferable” from owner to buyer. And it just plain looks nice!

4. Freshen up the rooms.

Sunlight, fresh paint and a well-placed vase of flowers can do wonders for any room — and for minimal cost.

5. Arrange for space.

Arrange furniture in a way that maximizes space and creates a smooth traffic flow. It might take some trial-and-error, but the spaciousness you create will be worth it.

6. Perform minor repairs as needed.

No how matter how trivial it may seem to you, an item needing repair will send a mental message to buyers. “Gosh, if they didn?t even care to fix that before showing the house, what else have they let go?”

7. Replace outdated fixtures (lights, knobs, etc.).

This falls into the “easy fixes with major impact” department. New lighting and fixtures can make an entire room seem new, even if it?s not.

8. Have the carpets professionally cleaned.

It?s quick, it doesn?t cost much, and it can give much-needed life to carpet. Even if you think your carpet is fine, give it a try. You?ll see the difference afterward!

9. Empty closets and attics to showcase their space.

Remember, prospective buyers are trying to see themselves in each house they look at. It?s a key determinant on whether they make an offer or scratch the house of their list.

Tip: Put half your clothes in a storage unit or in a friend?s house (temporarily). Your closets will seem larger with some emptiness to them.

10. Tidy up the landscaping.

Trim the bushes. Mow and water the lawn. Sweep the driveway and walkway. Plant fresh flowers. Most of these things cost you nothing but time, yet they?ll significantly enhance your overall “curb appeal.”

11. “Neutralize” your paint scheme.

Colors and color preference are subjective things. One person?s favorite color can make another person gasp. To avoid putting off buyers with dominant colors, play it safe with beige, taupe and other neutrals. Remember, the goal is to help people see themselves in the home.

Tips on Metal Detecting in the Rain

A third style, the Printed Spiral, is made only by Tesoro for use with pulse
induction circuitry. It offers good sensitivity to a broader range of target
sizes and improved sensitivity to less conductive targets such as fine gold
chains. All searchcoils are electrostatically shielded and waterproof.

If you are planning to buy a metal detector to join the treasure-hunting
fun, here are some tips to guide you so that youll get the best deal
possible. Metal detectors can be pricey, so youve got to invest your
money well. If this is your first metal detector purchase, consider getting
some professional and expert advice to make sure that you have making
the right choice. Metal detectors usually come with a complete control
box containing the controls, circuitry, batteries, microprocessor, and the
speaker. Metal detectors also include a search shaft that connects it to
the coil and the control box.

Metal detectors come with a control box that contains the circuitry,
controls, speaker, batteries and the microprocessor; a shaft that connects
the control box and the coil; a search coil that actually senses the metal;
and a stabilizer that keeps the unit steady as it is moved.

Tips on Metal Detecting in the Rain

The winter has passed, spring is on its way, and along with it comes the
spring rains. You and your favorite metal detector have been waiting for
the snow and the ice to melt to give way to sunshine and excellent
weather that’s fit for your favorite hobby - unfortunately, the perfect
spring weather isn’t exactly perfect, as it also brings about rain showers
every now and then. The good news is that you can still go metal
detecting in the rain. Here are some tips about how you can do exactly
that, and be effective in the process.

When metal detecting in the rain your metal detector will need
protection. You should also purchase a commercial meter rain-cover. This
is to ensure that your metal detector won’t get soaked from the rain.
Sometimes, however, the problem with commercial rain-covers is that
they tend to get moist from inside, so it is difficult to read the meter. It is
also an added expense, obviously. So if you do not want to shell out cash
to purchase a commercial meter rain-cover you can opt to use ordinary
plastic grocery bags. It may not be as secure and will not give the same
protection as a commercial rain-cover, but it’s good enough to let you go
on with your metal detecting even in the rain.

A good way to view the purchase is to decide how much money you are
comfortable spending. It is our view that you measure this purchase
against other purchases you have made.

Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a
great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts
with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector
should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting
at detect-metal.info. My recommendation is to simply allow mining
companies to clean up this contamination in the California watershed
through large dredging and sluicing operations without risk of civil or
criminal liability, and possibly for a profit. We must also allow recreational
miners greater access with fewer restrictions in the smaller creeks and
streams that would be inaccessible to mining companies.

Youve got to buy a metal detector that could withstand normal wear and
tear longer than its competitors. The longer the metal detector can serve
you, the better your return on investment will be.

The large coil can be found in the search coil of the detector while the
small coil is found on the System Control Pack. The coils are connected to
an oscillator which produces pulses of current. The pulse passes through
the coils in order to generate radio waves. Mention the words metal
detector and you’ll get completely different reactions from different
people. For instance, some people think of combing a beach in search of
coins or buried treasure.

As much as you need protection from the rain for your metal detector,
you also need protection from the cold wind and the rain showers
yourself. Purchase a wetsuit which will keep you from getting soaked,
helping you stay warm and cozy. It is also ideal to bring a raincoat other
than your wetsuit, to keep the chill from penetrating - especially when it
is windy.

With regard to metal detector headphones, waterproof headphones are
best, but regular headphones work as well. The best thing about going
on metal detecting trips in the rain is that common metal detecting hot
spots are usually empty during a rain shower. You will have the whole
area all to yourself, minus the nosey tourists and other metal detecting
enthusiasts. Also, because the ground is soaked during the rain, the metal
detector is able to pick up on signals in deeper targets, allowing you to
dig in deeper holes. Find the best gold metal detector today and start
treasure hunting!

So don’t let a little rain keep you from the chance to discover valuable
finds with your metal detector, because metal detecting in the rain is
totally possible, and can be really fun too! When hand-held detectors are
switched on, a red signal pattern in transmitted from the coil to the
ground. When the signal comes in contact with a metal, it interrupts the
signal and the detector alerts the user with an audio signal and flashing
lights.

So next time you loose that ring at the beach or you dime at the park
remember there are ways to find you beloved object. Have Fun. Some
users put a rubber band around the knobs to keep them from moving or
becoming loose. You should buy a metal detector that is light weight.
This is important when you are detecting things on a riverbank or body of
water.

Most metal detector companies also offer supplementary services like
designing, material sourcing, prototyping, short run manufacturing,
upgrading or re-designing, assembly services and specialty packaging.

Understanding Why Your Cat Stalks

By their very nature, cats are excellent hunters who thoroughly enjoy stalking their prey. For domesticated cats, their “prey” can be something as simple as an insect or a wind up toy. But, is it always healthy and normal for a cat to stalk, or is there ever a reason to be concerned about a stalking cat?

As I commented even domesticated cats have the natural instinct to hunt and to stalk. With an indoor cat, stalking generally speaking is not an indication of hunger. More likely they are stalking their prey out of curiosity or because they simply need to add a little excitement to their lives. Hunting and stalking also helps the cat to get a little exercise and also provides a release for pent up energy.

For the most part, domesticated cats prefer chasing mice or other small rodents. Some even enjoy stalking and catching rabbits and birds and they will spend many hours watching their prey. A domesticated cat that is well fed will generally just play with the prey rather than try to eat it. In fact, it is rare for a well cared for domesticated cat to eat its prey. Many people think cats are cruel because they play with their prey, but this is just simply the cat’s way of satisfying its natural hunting instinct and of getting exercise.

When a cat uses its stalking skill to hunt for prey, it moves quietly and attracts very little attention. Cats particularly enjoy stalking in areas with high grass because it helps prevent their prey from seeing them. This stalking instinct can be more than a little disturbing for those cat owners who are also bird lovers. If a cat has a tendency to stalk wild birds that the cat owner wants to be left alone, it can be a good idea to tie a bell around the cat’s neck. This will help warn the birds of the nearby stalking cat although it will of course frustrate the cat who may try to remove the bell!

Negative Behaviours

Besides destroying the wild bird population with their stalking and hunting instincts, some cats can begin to exhibit their stalking behaviours in negative ways. Indoor cats that are the only cat in the household are most likely to develop negative stalking behaviours. For example, a cat can learn the patterns of behaviour of its owner. So, when it hears the owner arrive home, it might engage in stalking mode and pounce on the owner and bite them on the ankle when they gets home. This behaviour is sometimes referred to as predatory-play aggression because it combines elements of play with elements of predatory behaviour.

When this happens, the owner quite understandably becomes upset. The owner might tell the cat off or even spray them with water to attempt to make the cat stop the behaviour. However, this will rarely succeed in modifying the cat’s behaviour

Modifying Stalking Behaviour

Indoor cats tend to engage predatory-play aggressive behaviour more than outdoor cats. This is because indoor cats are more likely to become bored. In addition, outdoor cats have a far greater number of options for fulfilling their predatory behaviour. These include stalking small outdoor animals, insects, and birds.

For the indoor cat, however, buying some toys that the cat can stalk is a good idea. These give the cat the opportunity to engage in its natural predatory instincts in a healthy way. The cat should have access to toys that both involve the owner and those that do not. Toys that involve the owner help to create a bond between the pet and its owner. On the other hand, cats also need to learn how to engage in solitary play and this includes stalking and other predatory behaviours.

Choosing Toys

Toys that are lightweight and easy to move are the best types of toys to help the cat engage in its stalking behaviour. Bouncy toys are also a good choice, as are toys that hand from the top of doors or from doorknobs. Toys that hang from other items should be moved around the house, however, to help keep the cat’s environment different and enriching. Toys can even be hidden in places such as laundry baskets to add to the excitement.

Toys that resemble the natural prey of cats, such as mice, are also good choices. In addition, toys should be large enough to prevent choking, but small enough to be easily moved by the cat. The material used to create the toy should also be indestructible. Otherwise the cat, particularly kittens, will destroy the toy. This is not only messy, but also poses as a choking hazard.

A cat that is properly stimulated with toys that allow it to utilize its stalking skills will be far healthier than one that is not. In addition, the cat will be far less likely to pounce on or harm the owner or the owner’s furnishings!

Shopping For A Treadmill

Treadmills are the aerobic exercise machine of choice for good reasons. They are probably the most enjoyable exercise machines, whether you typically like a slow, comfortable walk or a long run. Regardless of your age or fitness level, treadmills are suited for both intense and mild training, and therefore are one of the most effective pieces of exercise equipment you can buy. A study that compared exercisers who worked out equally hard for the same time on several different types of machines found that they generally burned the most calories on a treadmill. Consumer Reports research has shown that they’re less likely to gather dust than other types of exercise machines.

A treadmill is judged in several ways. Before you buy any treadmill, take it for a test run and check for
the following attributes. In addition, look at features, such as whether the treadmill offers preset programs, or is capable of memorizing a program you’ve created for yourself. Some machines can monitor the user’s heart rate and adjust speed and incline to keep heart rate within a specified range. The merit of some of these features, like handrails, will vary with the exerciser’s body and motion.

Durability — is evaluated by using a drum with pneumatic “feet” attached. The feet on the rotating drum pound the treadmill to simulate use by a 180-pound person jogging 500 miles — the equivalent of a year’s worth of use by a recreational runner. Then the treadmill is taken apart and examined for damage.

Ergonomics — how the treadmill fits the user — and the machine’s ease of use are also examined. You should be able to use a good treadmill intuitively, or at least without constantly referring to the owner’s manual.

A Thick Deck. The platform on which you’ll run or walk is the machine’s deck. A deck that’s at least three-quarters of an inch thick will stand up best to the impact of running. If you’re short of space, look for a deck that folds up. Make sure you can lift the deck easily and that the latch holds it securely in place.

Wide foot rails. Foot rails are located on either side of the deck. Make sure you can stand on them while you start up the treadmill and that they’re not tilted or wobbly.

Large belt. Look for a belt that’s at least 17 inches wide and 51 inches long. A small belt increases your chances of stepping off accidentally when it’s moving.

Well-designed handrails. They should be close enough to reach if necessary, but they should not get in the way of your swinging arms. They should be cushioned if you plan to hold on while you exercise.

Motor location. Make sure the motor housing is out of kicking range as you walk or run on the treadmill. Also, look for a quiet motor.

Easy-to-use controls. Avoid slide switches or knobs that you have to fiddle with to get to a desired setting.

Stability. Be sure the treadmill doesn’t wobble or creep across the floor.

Minimum incline near zero. Models that don’t level off below 2 percent can make the workout more strenuous than you want.

Useful programs. If you plan to use preset programs, see if you like the variety and can easily select the desired program. Check how the display monitors your progress through the program.

Other Extras. Touches that may help you decide between two otherwise similar machines include trays and stands to hold reading material or a remote control, a nest to rest your water bottle, and a place to safely hang your towel.

Follow these basics and you will end up with a treadmill that will serve you well for years to come.? Here’s a toast to your improved fitness!

Liven Up Your Walls With Decorative Plates

Liven Up Your Walls With Decorative Plates

 by: Johann Erickson

Decorative plates are often overlooked when decorating a home. Yet, it’s the details that really make the elements of a room come togetherand decorative plates are a detail present in most rooms. While there are decorative plates that are solely functional in purpose, most have the potential to add to the ambiance of a room. Think about the following wall plate options:

Cover your decorative plates in wallpaper that matches your wall for an understated elegance. You can also use this method to hide outlets on walls that display art.

Wood decorative plates are perfect for a room with a country or colonial flair.

Metal decorative plates come in a variety of textures and materials. Metal wall plates enhance contemporary, Victorian, and rustic decor.

Porcelain decorative plates complement shabby chic, bathrooms, and some Victorian design.

Mirror decorative plates can be used on mirrors, mirrored walls, or even as an eclectic detail in a uniquely decorated room.

Match your decorative plates with cabinets, doorknobs, and furniture hardware. With the wide variety available, you can also tailor them to table lamps and other light fixtures. Since wall plates come in all shapes and sizes, you can match them to the curves of your furniture placement. Matching will cleverly enhance featured pieces in a room without distracting from their appeal.

In addition to decorative plate style, you may want to consider changing the switch itself. Dimmer switches are available as dials, slides, touch pads, and combinations of each. The ability to adjust lighting in each room of your home provides you a way to highlight specific room features or set the appropriate mood.

Decorative plates, often taken for granted, are a versatile design element. They can be romantic, sophisticated, sleek, or fun. First decide what you need your decorative plate to do for a room, and then shop for it as seriously as you would shop for furniture, wall coverings, or carpet.

Durable and Best Quality Pex (valli valli) Tools Available Here

Filed under: Texas Knobs N' Things — Admin @ 12:31 am

Pex tools are products that carry much importance among the general plumbing goods. The Pex tools enable the user to fit or repair any plumbing product. They are flexible enough to easy route around some of the braces and other things that are in the way of your old house or work place.
Pex tools are specialized-they fit the job. For example, if you buy a handle puller to pull tub or shower faucets, you will also need a box end or hollow-core socket wrench to remove packing nuts which are soft brass, easily distorted and practically impossible

Best quality Radiant heat
A radiant heating system if designed and installed properly is the most comfortable, efficient heating appliances which can often be installed for less than a forced air system. The innumerable satisfied customers prove the efficiency and comfort to use radiant heat in life.
A properly designed radiant system uses the most competent heat source that is practical. Three thousand dollars plus for a boiler for a two thousand foot house makes no "cents". A small well insulated home can often use a common water heater to furnish both heat

Is it time to repair or to replace that furnace?
It is rarely easy to decide whether to repair or replace an expensive appliance when the time comes.  If the cost of repairing your furnace exceeds the cost of replacing it then the decision is easy but that is rarely the case.  More often a careful weighing of the pros and cons of each option is required.
The first step in your decision should be to get the opinion of a heating and furnace expert.  Have your furnace inspected and get an estimate for both repair and replacement of the unit.  The heating contractor wil

Christmas Shopping and Men Don’t Mix

I’ll be blunt. Most men detest shopping. Unless they are searching for some sort of power tool for themselves.

Only this morning, my other half breezed enthusiastically into our home office brandishing his latest gadget-like purchase. At the time, I was sitting gazing at a blank PC screen searching for inspiration, which arrived instantly in the form of a Bosch Router.

“Look at this!” he enthused, as he waved this heavy metal object menacingly above my head. “Remember me telling you about how I wanted an edging tool, so that I could get a nice profile on the borders of furniture, like this desk for example?” he said, running his middle finger across the perimeter of his recent creation and then swiftly removing it when the razor-sharp edge sliced through his flesh.

“Well, now that I’ve got this, I can do that”, he gushed, as I ducked to avoid this now identified flying object swooping precariously past my cranium, whilst he gave a charades’ type demonstration of the action that one would employ when using such a contraption.

Mention the words B&Q, Do-It-All, Homebase and, above all, power tools and his face lights up like a Halloween pumpkin. Mention any other type of shopping, for anyone other than himself, and his features contort into an expression on a par with someone who’s just stepped, barefooted, into a pile of dog excrement.

Naturally, from a man’s point of view, Christmas is the worst time of year to engage in the tedious pastime of shopping, not just for one person, but for a miscellaneous assortment of friends and relatives, some of whom you only hear from once a year via a brown paper package containing a home knitted garment.

This loosely-woven hand knit is generally a ferret-coloured sweater that would fit a cross between an anorexic chicken and monkey, sent with much love from someone with a name like Auntie Ivy, who always has stale, tea breath, who wears rancid, Eau-de-Skunk perfume and whose Orang-utan lipstick overflows the outline of her lips and invades the rest of her face in a haphazard pattern. Oh, and she always seems to forget that you’ve matured somewhat, mentally and physically, since you were a mere six years old.

As far as men are concerned, Christmas shopping is best left until an hour before closing time on Christmas Eve. This is the “panic and buy anything for the sake of having to” hour and trying to secure the best of what is remaining on the spartan shelves.

The tacky choice generally includes a cellophane wrapped set of Lavender fragranced talc and bath cubes, a pair of musical Santa socks, a reduced price window candle arch, with two faulty bulbs and a Popular Christmas Songs album, by some obscure artist sporting a coat hanger grin, Grecian 2000 hair and a diamond-patterned pullover.

The only time that my partner enjoys the shopping experience as a couple, is when we visit select underwear stores, allowing him to sidle off and rifle lustfully through the transparent lingerie and waggle his fingers through the gap in crotchless panties. When shopping as an attached man, he can conduct himself in this manner without question. Unaccompanied, he would give the impression of either being a pervert or of harbouring a secret fetish for cross-dressing.

Last week, accompanied by our two-year-old daughter, we visited a shopping mall in Bristol to “tentatively” search for some Christmas gifts. Led by my “likes to be in control” partner, we skirted past 101 women’s clothes’ shops before I barely had time to drool longingly through the window at some over-priced, flirtatious little number, as it hung perfectly from some unbelievably stick-like, plastic dummy. And no, I don’t mean Pamela Anderson.

Suddenly, without prior warning, my beloved quickened his pace to the equivalent of having had a large stick of dynamite lodged up his behind, before veering sharply to the right and cutting across the paths of innocent pedestrians. He must have assumed that I was following, since not once did he glance over his shoulder to check that I was trotting dutifully behind.

Darting in and out of a bustling crowd of people, who all seem to be travelling at right angles to you, is not so much of a problem when you are not weighed down by any sort of baggage. However, when you have a mind-of-its-own pushchair and a large, golfing umbrella that has a habit of piercing unsuspecting victims in the nether regions, life becomes a tad more difficult.

After playing skittles with the pushchair and mobile human targets and ruining a nice young man’s reproductive capacity with my umbrella spike, I spotted my eager sidekick disappearing into a store that had “The Gadget Shop” emblazoned across the entrance.

Typical.

He spent more time in this store excitedly twiddling with knobs (imagining they were nipples, no doubt) and pushing various buttons, than we did in total looking around the entire mall. After declaring, “I’ve got to get one of these” at least ten times, he announced, “Well, that’s about it then. Not really much else here is there?”

“So aren’t we actually going to do any Christmas shopping today then?” I enquired.

“No, I think I’ll take a day off work in December”, he said.

“When, exactly?” I asked.

“Oh, probably Christmas Eve”, he replied……..

Radiant heating is a technology employed for heating both indoor and outdoor areas. Radiant heating comprises of "radiant energy" (commonly known as heat) emitted from a heat source, which then penetrates all objects in its path.
Radiant heat is a unique transfer of energy that naturally makes colder objects warm. Instead of releasing warm air, radiant heat starts by warming the cold objects from its source. This is why radiant heating systems are generally placed under floors.
The heat energy is discharged from a warm elemen

Is it time to repair or to replace that furnace?
It is rarely easy to decide whether to repair or replace an expensive appliance when the time comes.  If the cost of repairing your furnace exceeds the cost of replacing it then the decision is easy but that is rarely the case.  More often a careful weighing of the pros and cons of each option is required.
The first step in your decision should be to get the opinion of a heating and furnace expert.  Have your furnace inspected and get an estimate for both repair and replacement of the unit.  The heating contractor wil
