Protocol for the Introduction of a New Pet to Other Household Pets
When you first bring home a new pet, expect a period of transition and adjustment for the other pets in the household. You may find that some pets hide from the new addition, whereas others might try to push it around. Sometimes the original pets will start behaviors designed to get your attention (including barking, pawing, stealing items, or pushing the addition out of the way and jumping on you).
All of these can be normal and are not worrisome if they change within a week or two. If the animals in the household do not revert to normal behavior within a short time or if they become aggressive, a problem exists that will not go away on its own. The sooner you seek help from a qualified specialist, the better.
Before introducing any new pet, make sure it is healthy, has up-to-date vaccinations, and that test results for fecal parasites are negative. It is particularly important that all new cats are check for their viral titer (feline immunodeficiency virus FIV, feline leukemia virus FeLV) status. Cats with positive results should not be brought into a negative household.
You can make the transition easier for new pets by using gradual introductions. The new pet should be kept separate from the other pets whenever they are not closely supervised. This advice may be extreme, but it is designed to ensure that no injuries occur and that the social situation of the original pets is not suddenly fragmented. The original pet(s) should have access to the same areas of the house as previously. If the dog was crated, the crate can still be used. If access was restricted to the first floor, this pattern should continue. The new pet should be placed in a neutral area (den, finished basement, brightly lit bathroom) with toys, a blanket, water, a litter box if the new pet is a cat, and anything else it might need. It is important that the new pet not be placed in an area that is considered highly desirable by the other pets. Areas of high value usually include places where the people spend a lot of time with the pets (bedrooms) or where the pets choose to stay when they are alone (around food dishes or on window sills that are good perch sites). If your dog is always crated, you can accustom the dog quickly to a new dog by crating the new dog across the room where it can be seen by the original one. As the dogs become more accustomed to each other, their crates can be moved gradually closer together until they are side by side.
Be sure that the area in which you are confining the new pet is pet-proof. This means toilet seats should be down, electric cords should be tied up and put away, sockets should be protected with child guards, and any valuable or fragile items should be moved. New pets will explore, and that exploration should not endanger them. If the new pet is a very young puppy or kitten, you may wish to crate it for its protection. Crates do not afford total protection from willful and determined claws and teeth of an uncrated animal, but they do greatly minimize the risk of damage.
Whenever any animal is isolated for any reason it is critical that the animal receive a lot of social attention whenever possible. This is especially true for new pets. When you come home greet the original pets (make all the dogs sit first) and let them out, if this is your normal routine. Do not rush - when people are stressed and rush they may either facilitate undesirable reactions between the pets or not be as attentive to cues about impending problems as they otherwise would. Introduce the new pet gradually. First, spend some time alone with the new pet. Then bring the new pet outside on a leash or harness and let the other pets explore him or her. If you anticipate problems, the other animals also can be on leashes or harnesses. If you have too many animals to adequately monitor under these circumstances, the new pet can be placed in a crate or cage in the center of a room and the other pets can explore the caged pet.
The best time to perform gradual introductions is when the animals are calm. Start by petting the original pets and telling them that it is “okay” only if it is truly okay; do not reward hissing, growling, and biting. When you tell a pet it is “okay” when it is upset, you are not calming the animal - you are rewarding inappropriate behavior. If the animals in the household are calm and either ignore each other or act friendly despite the new addition, you can feed them within sight of the new pet. This distance should be close enough that they can easily see and watch each other, but not so close that they become upset. Once you find this distance you can move their food dishes closer together by an inch a day until they are side by side. If you ever have an aggressive encounter, back off from that distance and return to the last distance where neither pet reacted. Leave the dishes there for a few days and then gradually start to move them again. Feeding and petting the animals in each other’s presence teaches them that good things happen when they are together and calm. For this to be successful, neither side can react violently. If a pet does react this way, banish that animal to a neutral zone immediately and try again when it is calm. If it again reacts violently, banish the pet for the rest of the day or evening and try later in the day or during the next morning.
Some aggressive and undesirable interactions are not violent but are still not conducive to the development of a good relationship between the pets. You can learn to watch for subtle behaviors that can signal potential problems, should the recipient of the behaviors not be able to change the course of the interaction. In dogs these behaviors include piloerection (hair lifting on scruff, neck, or back), staring, snarling, and pouncing are also threats but are less intimidating to many animals than the display just described. If you believe that the new pet is losing the contest or is terrified, or is becoming so aggressive that it might injure the original pet, separate the animals. Do not put your hands or other body parts between the animals. This is the single most common way in which people are injured by pets. Use cardboard, brooms, loud noises (whistles, foghorns), or water pistols to separate the animals. If you can identify the aggressor, banish that animal to neutral turf. If you cannot identify one aggressor, banish every animal to different pieces of neutral turf.
If the new pet is sitting in close proximity to the other pets and everything seems to be going well, tell all the animals that they are good and give them all small food treats and petting, if they like to be petted. This works best if you have two people so one can hold the new pet while the other deals with the other animals. If you are working with two people, switch roles so that the new pet does not associate its rewards with only one person. This can still be accomplished with one person by using leashes, harnesses, and crates. Leashes can be tied to furniture or doorknobs that are at a distance that will allow pets to sniff each other and react, but not so close as to permit them to lunge at and injure one another. Never leave a tied pet unsupervised even for a minute; it could strangle and die.
The entire time that you are doing this exercise - and it could take hours or weeks - make sure that each pet has 5 to 10 minutes alone with you each day when all you do is pay attention to that pet. This attention could be grooming, playing with a toy, or just petting and massage. Make sure that the pet is happy and relaxed at these times. If you know in advance that you are getting a new pet, you may want to establish these periods of individual attention in advance of the new arrival. If these periods follow a regular schedule, the pets will learn to anticipate them. It may decrease their anxiety about the new addition because they can rely on them.
Once you are able to get the pets to react to each other in a positive manner or not to react at all when restrained, remove the restraints. Be vigilant and keep a water pistol, foghorn, air canister, or whistle with you to interrupt any dangerous situations. If the animals are all behaving well, remember to reward them with praise and treats.
Once you have done the above, you are ready to let the animals out of your sight. Put a bell on the new animal by sewing a bell to its collar so that you always know where it is. This will allow you to spy on any potentially problematic interactions and to interrupt them before they create problems. During this period when you are beginning to provide the pets with free access, remember to provide additional water dishes, litterboxes, beds, and toys so that you minimize competition and the potential for aggressive interaction.
The keys to success are patience and observation. It is critical that the animals are not inadvertently encourage to become hostile or nervous in each other’s presence by well-meant but misplaced reassurance for inappropriate behaviors. Expect that the social system may shift. The dog that you always thought of as the “boss dog” may not only be relegated to a lower position, but may actually prefer that. Let the animals set their own pace. In many cases the pets never become close companions but are reasonably content leading separate lives under the same roof. This is far more preferable to frank aggression. Do not push the animals too hard or push for relationships they clearly do not want; this could backfire and you could undo most of the good behavior that you had achieved.
If the pets have lived in the same household but have begum to have some problems with interaction, the previously mentioned protocol can also help them. The pet that is the victim of the aggression should be fed, walked, and given attention before the aggressor. This reinforces its right to some valued status. If confinement of one pet becomes necessary, confine the aggressor to a neutral or lower quality room. Do not confine the aggressor where it would rather spend time; this only convinces the animal that the contest is meritorious. When you reintroduce the pets, do so gradually as described previously. Move from introductions under controlled circumstances to ones in which the animals are being monitored from a distance. Let their behaviors tell you when you are ready to progress. Put a bell on the collar of the aggressor. At the first sign of any aggressive behavior, and definitely within 30 to 60 seconds of the onset of the behavioral progression, startle the aggressor with a foghorn, air canister, or water pistol. This means that you should not wait to startle the cat until is has pounced on the kitten, but that you startle it as soon as it stares at the kitten. Timing is everything. The startle must be sufficient that the behavior is aborted but not so profound that the animal becomes terrified. At that time, reassure the victim, and after all animals have been calmed, engage them both in behaviors that are incompatible with aggression (i.e., feeding and petting). If the aggression persists, banish the aggressor until it is calm, then try again. If the aggression continues, banish the aggressor until later in the day or the next morning.
If the aggression - either between new pets or pets already in the household - continues, you can try a behavior modification technique called “flooding.” Done incorrectly this can be very traumatic and damaging. Consider consulting a behavioral specialist to see if this is necessary. It can be a wonderful last resort. In flooding, one animal is kept confined or otherwise restrained while in the presence of the other animal. It is kept in that restrained or confined situation until the level of the inappropriate reaction diminishes by at least 50%. Obviously you could not keep an animal on a leash for days without respite, but an aggressive animal can be crated for an extended period with food, water, toys, a blanket, and a litterbox (if necessary) while the other animal is either locked in a room with it or placed in a similar cage facing the aggressor.
If one animal is loose, you should realize that it could injure the caged animal or be injured by sticking its paws through the crate. If the animals become more aggressive and upset, flooding does not work and is counterproductive and should be stopped. Usually the effect is a positive one, and the crated aggressor realizes that the other animal also has a right to share the house. This technique is a last resort and should not be attempted with qualified advice.
Finally, pharmacological intervention may succeed where other therapies have failed. There are many newer anxiolytics available which, when prescribed by qualified individuals and used correctly, may be helpful adjuvants to behavioral and environmental modification. In very extreme cases of interanimal aggression in which all other therapies, including pharmacological, have failed, the best, kindest, and safest solution may be to place one of the animals in a new home.
The above is general veterinary information. Do not begin any course of treatment without consulting your regular veterinarian. All animals should be examined at least once every 12 months.

Coincidentally, heating bills are rising at a time when utility companies across the country are now broadening their payment options for their customers, and this includes allowing

Painting Tips for Your Home Remodeling Plans
Nothing can change the appearance of a room quicker and easier than painting the walls and trim. It’s also one of the least expensive home improvement projects that you can undertake, especially for the impact that it creates. So here are the steps that you need to go through to prepare a room for painting.
First of all get everything that you can out of the room. The less furniture and decorative items that you have to work around, the better. After you have done that take off the electrical faceplates and heating register covers. They are usually only held on by a couple of screws anyway, so it shouldn’t be difficult to take them off. Also remove all knobs and handles that could be in close proximity to the paint. Then mask off all of the switches and receptacles in the room, and cover all the heavy furniture that is left in the room with dropcloths or bedsheets.
It’s a good idea to protect the floor by running a 2 in. piece of masking tape around the edge of the entire room and then bringing your dropcloths right up to the edge of the tape.
Now is the time to remove old wallpaper if necessary, as its usually not the best idea to paint over wallpaper instead. Very often wallpaper will begin to curl a way from the wall eventually and can run your beautiful paint job.
At this point you will need to remove any paint that is chipping or peeling by scraping or sanding it off. The most important thing to keep in mind at this point is to only remove the old paint and not part of the surface itself. If the previous surface was glossy, then be sure to rough it up with some sandpaper before applying the paint.
After you are finished with scraping and sanding the walls and trim, now is the time to make sure that all the painted surfaces are clean, by washing them down with a phosphate free degreaser or cleanser. If there are mildewed areas, include some chlorine bleach in your solution to help kill the mildew. After this, let everything dry out for the next 24 hours or so.
While the room is drying, you can be masking off any areas that need to be protected. For instance, masking off the doorway if it will be a different color from the wall. If you are using a brush for painting, the kind of masking tape that you choose can be important. Most home improvement stores sell what is called “painters tape” that prevents paint from seeping through to the surface underneath and yet is still easy to remove.
Once all of this is done, you can get started with your paint job. The best way to start is to cut in all of the edges of the room first. This usually means using a brush to paint the first 3 or 4 inches in from all edges of the walls. Once you have the wall outlined with the new paint color, you can then use a roller to finish off the wall easily and quickly.
Painting your own walls and trim is a simple home improvement task if you approach it in an organized way. It’s also well within the reach of almost all homeowners to be able to turn out an excellent, high-quality paint job. So why not pick a wall and get started right away?

How Do Electric Guitars Work - All You Need to Know.
Guitars come in various shapes, sizes, looks and design. The music world has classical acoustic guitars, semi-acoustic guitars, electric guitars, hollow body guitars, jumbo guitars, ‘S’ hole guitars etc. Each of these guitars has its own characteristic generic looks, characteristic sound and tonality, which attract their own respective following. Overall, guitars can be classified into two broad categories: acoustic guitars and electric guitars.
How Does a Guitar Work?
To know how guitar work, let us first see what is common to the working of any guitar. Every acoustic guitar has a minimum of six parts - the guitar neck with guitar nut and headstock, fret board, tuning keys, Guitar Bridge, sound box and guitar strings. Each of these parts is crucial to the good working of the guitar and plays its own roles to dole out music.
The guitar strings are long strands of metal or nylon wire, which stretch along through the major length of the guitar. There are normally six strings in a guitar (for the most common six-string guitar). All of these six strings run parallel to each other and are interspersed with a small gap between them. There are the sound generators of the guitar.
Strings generate sound for the guitar by vibrating along their vibrating length. The guitar bridge on one end and the guitar nut on the other end fix the vibrating length of a guitar string. The strings are tied onto a guitar under tension. The strings are plucked by fingers or with a pick. The tension in the string (varied about with the help of tuning keys) makes the string to vibrate.
Up to this point, the working of all guitars is the same. What happens next is what categorizes whether the guitar is an acoustic guitar or and electric guitar.
Working of Acoustic Guitars
All guitars have strings that vibrate which are the principal sound generators of the musical instrument. If you pluck a string tied under tension (no, no! not on a guitar!) you will find that the sound produced is not what you will want to hear again and again as you would like to hear the sound of a good guitar. Moreover, the sound from bare strings is very soft and you will barely be able to hear them. The sound has to be amplified so that people far and near can hear them. This is where the sound box from the acoustic guitar comes in. The sound box of an acoustic guitar is made as an hollow body constructed out of wood. It uses the ‘acoustics’ of the shape of the hollow body, material characteristics etc to amplify the sound generated by the string. The sound box of a guitar gives it its characteristic sound.
How Does An Electric Guitar Work?
Electric guitars amplify the sound generated by the guitar strings electronically. Instead of the sound box of an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar has pick-ups and other electronic components. The pick up from an electric guitar picks up the sound waves generated by the strings and converts them into their corresponding minute electrical signals. There are different types of pickups. Commonly used ones are magnetic pickups, piezo electric pickups, condenser pick ups etc.
The converted electric signal then passes through the various electronic components mounted on the guitar and finally into the sound amplifier which electronically amplifies the sound. The electronic components on the guitar modulate the converted electric signal to suit the guitarist. Most commonly found components on guitars are the volume control knob (which enables the guitarist to control the volume of the guitar sound) and tone control knobs (which enables the playing guitarist to determine the sound tonality).

How To Find Good Woodworking Instructions
So you?ve got grandeur plans for a woodworking project. Maybe you?re thinking of adding a cabinet in your bathroom, or a new bed-frame that will score you points with the wife, maybe even give you a free pass for a Sunday off for football only. Well, to be honest you won?t get far without some sort of woodworking plans before you begin your project. It?s not simple to build a bookshelf, but with a blue print or pattern you?ll soon be looking like a pro, which means your Sunday of freedom will come to be.
One thing that?s great about the time that we live in is how available information is with the Internet, and woodworking plans are no exception. The best plans will tell you exactly what materials you?ll need, both the type and the quantity, as well as will give you an approximation of how long the project should take.
It will also let you know if you?re taking on too much at this point in your skill set. Unfortunately, even though it looks great, you just might not be ready for a fancy curvy cabinet with many details, but hey, everyone?s got to start somewhere, even if it is a birdhouse. You may actually find that you enjoy making birdhouses.
It?s important to know when making your plans what hardware and accessories you?ll need. A good plan will let you know for example what hinges or knobs you?ll need for your cabinet, how many of each, etc. It will give you a run down of the best materials to use, as well as where you can get them.
Next you?ll want a list of tools, this way you can be sure to have everything you need available before you get started. Nothing is worse than to lose the momentum on a job because you have to run out for a new tool that you need. Worse yet, not even knowing which tool that you need is enough to make most people give up all together.
Another great part about using a woodworking pattern is that all of your measurements right there. For instance when you?re making the captain?s bed with bottom storage drawers, you won?t need to calculate or worse ? guess, the width the drawers need to be in so that they fit three across. The tedious calculating has been done for you. Better yet, the plans author has most likely done this project many times, so they know from experience.
It?s usually pretty easy to understand the plans that you get. If it?s not, then just don?t use those plans plain and simple. Most will account for language barriers, using different languages, as well as good illustrations or pictures that the building can refer to.
You won?t need a master?s degree in gluing and hammering to comprehend how these instructions work. If you?ve ever put one of those ?some assembly required? toys together, then you?ll be pleasantly surprised that following woodworking plans is in fact easier!

Sqeeze a little lemon and drizzle a little white wine if you have any! Wrap the fish up and cook for 12-15 minutes or untill cooked. Please low down the oven as opposed to the top where the potatoes should be Once cooked take the potatoes and fish out. Leave both to cool. Flake the fish and the inside of the potato into a bowl, add salt, pepper and a few knobs of butter. Lightly blend the mixture, but be carefully not to mash! Make Hand Washing a Holiday Habit
Hand washing is a simple act with a huge impact. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says washing your hands properly reduces the transmission of pathogens to food, water, people, and common objects such as hand railings, door knobs, and grocery carts. Washing your hands is important all the time, but it is especially important during the holidays when you are exposed to crowds of people.
According to the CDC, the “fundamental principle of hand washing is removal of bacteria, not killing.
Is there a correct way to wash your hands? In an article titled “General Information on Hand Hygiene” the CDC recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds. Mayo Clinic recommends 15 seconds of hand washing on its Website. Here are Mayo Clinic’s recommendations and some additional comments.
1. Wet your hands with warm, running water and apply liquid or bar soap. The soap should be clean and you should work up a good lather.
2. Scrub the back of your hands, between all of your fingers, under your fingernails, and your wrists.
(You will have to demonstrate this for young children.) Kids may enjoy using a nail brush, but it is not necessary.
3. Rinse your hands well. Leaving soap on your hands could cause a skin rash and make “winter itch” worse.
4. Dry your hands with a clean clot towel or paper towel. Moist hands can still transmit bacteria so dry your hands well. Do not use the reusable cloth towel rolls that some rest rooms have because they transmit bacteria. Dry your hands with tissues instead.
5. Turn off the faucet with a towel.
Kids are probably not going to follow all of these steps and getting them to wash for 20 seconds can be hard. To make sure young kids wash their hands long enough have them sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” two times. Bring hand sanitizer with you when you are out and about. You and your children should wash your hands after:
* using a public rest room
* blowing your nose
* touching your eyes or contact lenses
* shaking hands
* changing a diaper
* bagging garbage and putting it in trash cans
* pet contact (holding, petting, feeding, walking)
* touching raw food
* touching dirty clothes, blankets, sheets, pillowcases
* going to a grocery or department store
* being in a public place, such as a theater
Though hand sanitizers are handy, the CDC says they are not a replacement for frequent and proper hand washing. Hand sanitizers do not clean hands that are really dirty or contaminated, adds the CDC.
Protect yourself against colds and flu this holiday season by washing your hands well. Young kids will be more apt to wash their hands if the soap is easy to reach. Holiday bottles of pump soap will also encourage hand washing.

Tips For Preparing Your House For Sale
When acting as your own real estate agent, it is imperative that you cover all bases adequately.
(there is a free ebook: 101 Tips For Selling Your House, for you to download, that gives you plenty of tips for preparing your home for sale, from a link at the bottom of this page).
You must have a for sale by owner home that is in excellent condition and ready to be shown to potential buyers.
It is not difficult to prepare your for sale by owner home for show but it does require proper planning and a little bit of work on your part to ensure success.
The outside of your for sale by owner home is the first thing potential buyers will see so it is very important to make sure it is clean and attractive.
?Curb appeal,? or the way your home looks from the outside, is what attracts potential buyers so if you spruce it up a bit, they will want to view the inside of the for sale by owner home.
A neatly manicured and well-kept lawn implicitly signifies a well maintained for sale by owner home. You should make a weekly habit of cutting your lawn while your home is on display for sale. Be sure to rake leaves and to sweep the sidewalks on the weekends when your house is to be shown.
If you have shrubs and or trees, remove debris and dead limbs to make them more presentable. It is a nice touch to plant extra flowers for color or to add potted flowers to lighten up the landscaping.
If fences are in ill repair or need work, repair them and touch them up with stain or with paint. Put away lawn equipment, children?s? toys, and any other outdoor items.
Keep large pets with neighbors so they do not interfere with the showing of your for sale by owner home.
The inside of your for sale by owner home is next on the list to make presentable for showing. It has been proven that people buy homes that appear spacious, clean, and solid.
Dark colors and clutter turn off most buyers, this means you must get rid of everything that you can possibly live without.
A good rule of thumb is this, if you cannot see your baseboard, the room is probably very cluttered.
To get rid of unnecessary things you may have, you may donate them to a charity or have a garage sale. The larger items that you must keep can be placed in storage.
If you will be painting your interior, use white or an off-white paint. You should also replace your light bulbs with brighter, higher wattage bulbs. Again, the look you are going for is bright and spacious. Be sure to clean everything thoroughly including carpets and mirrored surfaces.
Clean the oven and all appliances and be sure to polish any chrome fixtures. Be especially particular about ridding your home of any odors such as from smoke or from pets.
Fix any loose doorknobs, repair any broken windowpanes or leaky windowsills. Be sure any light fixtures are secure and in good repair. Also, be sure to repair any leaky pipes and to reapply caulk as needed.
These general tips will get you started on preparing your for sale by owner home for show. It is a good practice to view the for sale by owner home as though you are the buyer and to be particularly hard on yourself so a potential buyer won?t have to be.
If you are worried that you may overlook something, it won?t hurt to get a friend or neighbor to do a walk thru of the home and to critique your efforts. This will ensure a complete and thorough preparation and will boost the appeal of your home.
If you follow these tips you should have no trouble in selling your house.

Porsche Chayenne interior
Porsche offers three versions of the four-door Cayenne: the Cayenne, The Cayenne S and the Cayenne Turbo.
The standard models of the Cayenne and Cayenne S come with features such as:
18-inch alloy wheels,
stability control given by the Porsche Stability Management,
leather seating,
power seats,
dual-zone automatic climate control and a 350-watt, 15-speaker Bose audio system.
Since it’s a true Porsche, Cayenne’s ignition switch is on the dash’s left side. The gauge cluster is nearly perfect but the climate and radio controls are indecipherable cluster of buttons and knobs.
The good thing is that the satellite steering wheel controls are standard which means that they will be easier to find. The Turbo model comes not only with additional power but also with more technical and luxury features.
Among those we enumerate: an adaptive suspension with automatic ride height and damping adjustment (Porsche Active Suspension Management), bi-HID headlights, a CD-based navigation system, heated seats front and rear, seat memory, sonar front/rear parking assist and power adjustment for the steering wheel. But the options the Cayenne offers are meant to increase functionality and personality.
These options are: four-zone climate control, bolstered sport seats, various wheel/tire upgrades and trailering preparation. With a maximum cargo capacity of 63 cubic feet, the Cayenne has slightly more capacity than the Range Rover but less than the Infiniti FX45.

Tips For Refacing Your Kitchen Cabinets
Are your cabinets looking a little worn down and shabby? If so, you may want to revamp the look of your kitchen cabinets by resurfacing them. Refacing your kitchen cabinets is a cost effective way to give them a new appearance. Instead of replacing the entire structure, you can simply replace the surface. Refacing your cabinets will offer a new look for your room and greatly improve the durability of your cabinets. You will be adding years of life to your cabinetry.
Generally, a refacing or resurfacing project will be performed by a professional. The entire project involves replacing the cabinet drawer fronts and doors, as well as adding a new veneer to the base cabinet. The cost will depend on type of wood you want. Prices can range from $4000 to over $10,000. The amount of time it takes to complete the project will also vary. Some projects can be finished in as little as 2 days while others can take up to a week. It usually depends on how large of a kitchen you have.
Refacing your cabinets is a wonderful alternative to replacing them; however, you must make sure that your cabinets are still in good condition first. If the structure of your existing cabinets is in poor condition then you will not benefit from resurfacing them because in time they will need to be replaced anyways. Also, keep in mind that your current layout will not be changed when you resurface so if you are looking for a new layout then you may want to redesign and replace your cabinets all together.
The alternative to refacing your cabinets is to refinish them. Refinishing your cabinets involves painting or staining them. Refinishing your cabinets can prove to be the most cost-effective option, and also offer the best return on your investment. Painting your cabinets is the easiest and least expensive way to create a new fresh look. If you happen to be crafty with your hands then you may be able to save yourself even more money by painting your cabinets yourself, either freehand or by using stencils. Once you finish putting a new layer of paint on, all you have to do is add new drawer pulls and knobs. This entire project can be done for as little as $500.
Bottom line, cabinets are one of the main focal points of a kitchen and for that reason it is very important to keep them looking good. If your current cabinets are starting to look worn down, but they are still sturdy and structurally sound then you may be able to give them a face-lift without spending all the money that you would have to on replacements. Rather than plan an expensive, total replacement of cabinets, consider having your cabinets resurfaced at up to half the cost in material and labor.

Hardware And Tools
There are many different tools and hardware that can be used in various ways. Some can be used on cars and trucks, and some can be used on machines, furniture, etc. Hardware can be placed on many different products, but the most common is furniture and cabinets. This includes kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors, dressers and many other types of furniture that may be in a home or office.
Many tools are used to build furniture, which can be a very lucrative business for those who have the talent and the desire. In order to build furniture, a person will need tools like router saws, drills, and sanders. Sometimes these tools may require air in order to work, so air compressors are also essential to a furniture builder. Even individuals who work in other industries may need to use the same types of tools. Technicians in a tire shop use tools that run off air, requiring them to utilize an air compressor, as well. For example, the impact wrench comes in handy when they are trying to get the lug nuts off your tire in order to change the tire or get to the brakes. It would be almost impossible for someone to quickly remove the lug nuts from a tire without the use of these convenient tools. It is possible to do it manually with a tool such as a lug wrench, but how could a business be able to run quickly and efficiently without tools that help them save time? There is no way to do this without them, because customers would get tired of waiting and would leave to go elsewhere to have their cars serviced.
Many jobs require individuals to use spray guns. These jobs include: Vehicle painting, wall painting, as well as furniture refinishing and repair. A spray gun is another tool that requires air in order to function. Saws help a person to create the correct dimensions for the furniture, and the drills bore holes into it so if can be properly assembled. Drills are also used to bore holes in order to place the hardware on the furniture. Hardware adds beauty to already attractive furniture. There are numerous types of hardware to choose from, too. The many diverse styles and levels of quality give customers a wide variety of choices. It all depends on how someone wants their project to look, as well as how much money they have budgeted to spend.

Take Your Kitchen to the Country
Tired of the ultra-modern black and white and chrome of your kitchen? Have you gone beyond the desire for sleek minimalism and long for the comfort of a warm and cozy country kitchen? Many of us spend a lot of time in our kitchens, so comfort is right up there with convenience. Here are some ways to create that feeling of warmth in your kitchen.
Let’s start from the bottom up. You may want to cover the existing linoleum with one of the many laminate hardwood floorings that are available at building supply superstores. Snap-and-glue or lock-together flooring pieces are fairly inexpensive, don’t require a sub floor underneath for installation, and are extremely durable — a good move if you have children or pets. Wood comes in many different shades, so pick one that will work well with your choice of cupboards and countertop.
So let’s think about cupboards. Bring home some earth-colored paint swatches and see what strikes your comfort zone. Try an antique olive green, light mocha or honey. Before painting, wash your cupboards clean of grease and grime, then lightly scuff them with sandpaper and wipe down again to remove loose dust. Mix your chosen paint color half and half with glaze. Apply with a 1-4″ paintbrush, then take a rag made from an old cotton t-shirt and lightly rub the painted area with the rag to give an antiqued texture to the cupboards. Paint the trim in a solid color without the glaze to add contrast. When choosing doorknobs, try copper or wrought iron to create an aged look.
Now for the countertop. Buying countertops can be expensive, especially if you require a custom size or have your heart set on granite. One inexpensive way to resurface the countertop is with ceramic tile, which comes in a variety of colors and sizes. 12 x12 is a good size for countertops, or try smaller Mexican tiles with bright colored designs for the backsplash. After you lay the tiles, grout the seams. Charcoal grout seems to compliment most tile and always looks clean. Finish with two-inch wood trim in a color like red oak for added warmth.
Finally, choose a warm color to paint the kitchen walls. Shades of brown — such as desert sand, rice cake, or light coffee — add warmth to the room and don’t compete with the color of the cupboards. If the room is large enough, one wall could be painted with a darker or brighter color.
With all the basics in place, add decorative finishing touches, such as aged copper pots and pans hanging from a rack above the stove to wicker baskets or antique cooking utensils picked up at garage sales. A pottery or glass water pitcher filled with fresh flowers is a lovely addition.
If you have an eat-in kitchen, a wooden hutch or antique baker’s rack is the perfect setting for your aunt’s tea cozy and your collection of cookbooks. Now fill your country kitchen with the aroma of cinnamon buns made from Grandma’s recipe… and enjoy.

Gaining Independence - When Walking Becomes Too Difficult to Manage by Yourself
I hope this article can help other people who are in the position of helping a loved one achieve mobility and their pride back. My mother, unlike my father when he was still with us, would stop at nothing to continue her daily walks and outdoor excursions. For the last 7 years my mother has been using a cane to walk as many mobility impaired seniors do. Her life was put on hold last year when she had a fall and broke her hip which threatened to put her out of commission for 6 months. On top of this she had to wait to have the hip replacement surgery she so desperately needed (she also found out she had Osteoarthritis which explained the pain in her right hip which is why she needed the cane in the first place). Her doctor told her that a hip replacement was necessary since the pain in her hip would continue because of the osteoarthritis and her mobility would continue to decline. For the 2 weeks she waited for surgery I could tell she was not her old self, and in fact she was becoming depressed. Luckily she was able to have her surgery 2 weeks after her accident.
For the 2 weeks she waited for surgery I could tell she was not her old self, and in fact she was becoming depressed. Her doctor recommended a walking aid to help her recover more quickly. We went to the local drugstore which sold canes, crutches and walkers. We ended up buying her a 4 wheeled walker with a seat, hand brakes and a basket (also known as a Rollator). At the time we had no idea what type of walker / rollator to buy and what would be best for my mother during her recovery process. Her doctor was not very helpful about the options of different walking aids other than to say she needed a walker after her surgery. Truth be told, I think her cane was not providing the support she needed any longer which may have led to her falling in the first place. In my mind, whatever solution we found for my mother was one I wanted her to continue to use once she was better so she could maintain her mobility with confidence and reduce the chance of another fall. After her accident she seemed fearful of walking even with the help of a walker.
Walker Challenges:
The walker we purchased was the type you see everyone using, the type that folds like a pair of scissors and looks like an A from the side view. The walker itself posed its own challenges! We didn’t know at the time of purchase how hard it was going to be to get the walker in and out of the car which proved to be the biggest obstacle for her achieving her freedom and mobility. According to the brochure the weight of the walker was about 12 lbs which was the lightest one we could find thinking that would be beneficial for my mother so she could lift it herself after her new hip healed. The walker had a backrest to rest against when seated; however, this was an obstacle when she tried to put the walker / rollator in the trunk of her car as it was always in the way.
After 2 weeks of owning the walker the frame became very loose. When we first purchased the walker the frame would hold together well when folded, however, after it had been folded and unfolded 4 times a day for 2 weeks, the frame became floppy (she usually went in the car twice a day ? each trip required her to lift the walker in the car and back out of the car when she returned). The frame design reminded me of a pair of scissors in the way scissors are stiff when you buy them and over time they flip open easier. She would pick up the walker to put it into the car and the frame would flip open and cause her to struggle and many times she had to set it back down and start over which was very frustrating for her. Even though the walker only had a weight of 12 lbs it felt more like 25 lbs to my mother because of how uncooperative the frame was. She couldn’t do this very well herself so I had to take her places when she needed to go to the doctor or for shopping.
Luckily I live close by and was able to help her because I work from home, but many people don’t have that luxury. Don?t get me wrong, the walker was still a godsend to my mother and she was able to walk again and strengthen her hip muscles which helped her through the 3 months of healing, but if she was really going to be independent she needed something easier to get in and out of the car by herself. She wasn?t getting any younger after all.
Over the next 3 months (post operation) I noticed other challenges. The cables used for the hand brakes were getting caught on door knobs, obstacles in the car and her purse would snag on the cables when she would stand after being seated. I even heard her mutter a few expletives when the cables would get caught on something (this was very shocking to me). She also started to complain about things such as how the basket was banging into the doorways in her home. I looked around her home and saw ding marks on every door frame at the same level as the basket. The basket was out in front of the walker and it was apparent that the turning radius was limited because of this which is why it was hitting into the frame of every doorway. I began to watch her use the walker more closely over the next couple of months.
I went for a walk with my mother one day, around her neighborhood, and made some further observations. The 8 inch wheels on the front of the walker (the ones that swivel to allow the walker to turn easily) seemed to flutter as she walked on sidewalks and pavement. I found this strange since one of the selling points was it was better for outdoor use because of the big wheels. I could tell the walker was jiggling too much like you see with shopping carts and hospital beds. I asked her what she thought of that and she said she wished they wouldn?t flutter as it made controlling her movement more difficult and she also said she would be able to walk faster if the wheels didn?t flutter.
My mother has lived in an Assisted Living Center close to where I live for the last 5 years since my father passed away. Whenever I would visit her over the 3 months during her recovery from surgery it always seemed her walker / rollator was in the way especially now since she was no longer using it inside her home. After she regained her strength, and the pain in her hip subsided, she found it easier to walk indoors and clutch the furniture and railing to get around and the walker became a very useful tool to help her walk outdoors each day and when she went in the car. Folding it up didn?t help because whenever it?s folded it lays on the floor taking up more space than if she left it unfolded in the hallway
After 3 months of using her walker / rollator it was clear we needed to find something better that would offer the independence she so stubbornly desired. But every medical supply store offered a similar walker as the one my mother used just with a different company name on it. I asked myself; why would all these companies manufacture the same product with the exact same design flaws? We saw about 5 different brands that were all the same just different colors and different seat pads or different size wheels. It was clear to me if I was going to find something better I?d have to look beyond our local market. I turned to the internet to search for something better.
Solution:
I did a search on Google.com with the search term ?Rollator?. I went through 4 pages of links for companies selling walkers / rollators just like the one my mother already had. On the 5th page of links I found a company called Dana Douglas Inc. based out of Ottawa, Ontario. When I clicked the link it took me to their rollator page where the first product shown was called ?neXus Series? - Our prayers were answered!!! The neXus was the exact product we wanted and it was made in Canada vs. made in China for the one she owned. Here?s the link to make life easier for you if you or a loved have had similar experiences to my mother:
http://www.danadouglas.com/products/rollators.htm
The best thing about this product is the way it folds. If you are familiar with wheelchairs and how they fold then you will understand how the neXus folds. One lift of the red handle which is sunken into the seat and the neXus folds to only 9? in width and it stands when folded so my mother would be able to fit it in her front closet and her rollator would not be in the way in her small apartment. The basket way mostly under the seat so it would not bank into her door frames. The neXus boasted a ?Cable-Free/Maintenance free? braking system that had a 6 year warranty. I knew my mother would love having no cables to catch on things. The weight was 13 lbs which made it a little heavier than the one my mother owned but its claim was that it was the easiest rollator to fold and get it inside the car or to stow away. I wanted to see one and try it out with my mother and see if she liked it. I went to the store where we bought the other walker and asked if they heard of this walker which they did not but they knew the company name so that was a good start. I told the lady their about the neXus and that I would like to buy one if it met my mother needs. She was a little reluctant to order it at first but when she called Dana Douglas they said if we didn?t like it the product could be returned for a credit so the lady was willing to give it a try. She ordered the neXus and it arrived 3 days later. I didn?t tell my mother it was a little heavier (only 1 lb heavier) instead preferring to get her feedback when she went to put it in the car. My mother was overwhelmed at how the product was so much easier to use. First she rolled around the showroom and her first comment was ?The wheels don?t seem as sticky?. Apparently this is the only rollator with 2 steel bearing per front wheels so the wheels turn easier.
This became very noticeable when she walked outside to her car with the neXus and she was able to walk on the pavement and the wheels didn?t flutter and jiggle which allowed her to maneuver better. The handles were much easier on her hands, the basket was bigger to carry more goods but the biggest thing was how it folded. She lifted up on the red handle and put the neXus in her trunk with ease. We later learned that the rollator could stand upright behind the passenger side seat which made it even easier for her. She said the neXus was lighter than her other rollator because she didn?t have to struggle with the frame flipping open on her. Another great thing we found out was that the neXus could pass through narrow doorways which didn?t matter to my mother but her friend lived in an older home with narrow doorways. She showed it to her friend and her friend went to the same store and bought one the next day.
My mother has been using the neXus now for 6 months and has regained her independence and freedom. I know she feels better not having to ask me for help because she can move around on her own and travel in her car without worry of the struggles she had with her old rollator. The only bad part was the other rollator started to collect dust in my basement. I sold it on Ebay.com just a few weeks ago lol! I went to the store last week where we purchased the neXus and the same lady said it?s now their best selling rollator so I guess everyone?s a winner.
I hope you find this article helpful if you find you are suffering the same issues as my mother. Good luck with you journey of independence!

Introduction to Cooktops
There are a lot of differences in cooktops. Some are electric cooktops, gas cooktops and pro-style gas rangetops. Gas and electric cooktops come in a multitude of styles and configurations to complement your unique cooking style and kitchen decor. Electric cooktops can often feature custom control temperature management system that allows elements to repond in a way that is similar to cooking with gas. Electric smoothtop cooktops are easier to clean than gas cooktops, with more flexible features.
In general, gas cooktops aren’t as well-reviewed as electric cooktops. Although gas cooktops aren’t as easy to clean as electric smoothtop models, many owners like the visual control over heat that comes with a gas cooktop.
Cooktop surfaces can range from ceramic cooktops, glass cooktops to stainless steel cooktops, flat one-piece ceramic glass surfaces are sleek and easy-to-clean. Stainless steel cooktops offer the user that modern, clean look. Glass ceramic cooktops have basically three options: radiant, halogen, magnetic-induction.
Each type uses electricity to heat up a flat, glass ceramic surface, using control knobs or a touchpad to turn the heat on and off. Induction cooktops are the latest technology, using electromagnetic energy to heat the pan while maintaining a cooler cooktop. These cooktops are the latest technology and often carry with it a much higher price tag. Magnetic induction doesn’t work with aluminum pots and pans, only with steel and cast iron. If you can’t stick a magnet on your pots and pans, they won’t work with this option.
Cooktop buyers have a lot of options to choose from. The best policy before buying a cooktop is to do research on the various methods of cooking as well as reading the reviews found all over the internet on cooktops.

A door has to have hinges and a means of opening and closing. Add some dash to the required hardware by making decisions about their look and feel. Choose the warmth of brass or the strength of a black finish. At the front door, decide to dress up the doorbell by choosing hardware that adds definitive character. Decide not to have a doorbell, but select a stylish door knocker instead. Make the front door the first statement you make for your home. Make your inner doors confirm the statement.
Whether adding a ceramic knob or a gecko cabinet pull; a glass drawer pull or brass hinges to your kitchen cabinets, the warmest room in the house takes on the cozy, homey feeling that is its nature. It’s all about the details, the personalization and ownership that comes with the details, that makes enhancing a kitchen something of an adventure … and fun.
Floor registers frequently come with memories of growing up. Of home, or of grandma’s and grandpa’s house. And it’s impossible to think of those memories without warmth - literally. Recreate those memories with a register cover reminiscent of those days, and make the warmth in your house match the warmth of your childhood
When it comes to beautifying your home, we take nothing for granted. Knobs, Hinges & More only carries the finest quality, most unique, and most beautiful fixtures for your home–and offers them at the lowest possible prices.

Shopping For A Music Stand?
Make sure you buy the right one!
Shopping for a music stand is easy. Deciding which music stand will fit your needs might not be as easy.
To shop for a music stand all you have to do is go to a music store or do an online search. If you walk into a music store you?ll see the music stands the prices for each. If you do an online search, you can see pictures of the music stands that are out there and again find out how much each one is. That is the easy part.
The hard part is figuring out which music stand you need. There are several different music stands that are designed very differently.
The opera stand is an illuminated music stand for the opera singer. The stem on it is designed so that it does not interfere with the opera singer?s feet if they sit down. The opera stands can be nested together for easy storage.
The wooden stand is made to match a modern or historic concert hall. These stands are made of polished metal stems and natural wood trays. These stands nest together for compact storage also. The jazz stand is a music stand that folds. It will fold down to the size of the tray. It is an adjustable stand for sitting or standing to play or sing. To store them, they will stand right next to each other or you can store them folded. If they are folded, they store one right on top of another.
The school music stand is designed for students. It is unbreakable. It does not have knobs, but rather raises and lowers easily. It has an extra lip on the tray for pencils and erasers. These also nest together for easy storage.
The studio stand is a modern looking stand for all types of musicians. It is like the opera stand, except it does not have the light attached to it. It is designed so that if the musician swings their legs, they will not knock the stand over. Like many of the other music stands, they are designed to be nested together for storage.
The scherzo stand is a foldable stand. It is made of aluminum. The aluminum makes it very lightweight for easy transportation. Now that you know how each music stand is designed, you can decide which music stand will work best for your music needs.

The Latest In Kitchen Appliances
Today?s kitchen appliances have taken convenience to a new level. Not only can they store recipes and multi-task, but some even notify you when you?ve run out of milk. If you?re planning a kitchen remodeling or just looking to change your appliances, take a look at all the fancy appliance features.
Appliances Are Computer Literate
Many kitchen appliances are designed with computerized features that help them work more efficiently. The focus is on helping you make meals quicker, smarter and with less hassle. This means that a refrigerator might have a barcode scanner that keeps track of your groceries or a flat screen on the door that can connect to the Internet. These are made in standard sizes that can work into any kitchen remodeling plan.
Kitchen Appliances Have Sleek Look
These new age appliances also are designed to fit with current kitchen design trends. You?ll see plenty of stainless steel that blends with the commercial kitchen design. Aside from shiny stainless steel, you?ll find muted shades and those that have different gray tones. Also look for:
?Ergonomically correct knobs for ease of use. ?Stylish appliance door handles and burner knobs.
Try These Kitchen Appliances
For those who love to cook, consider some newer appliance features:
Ovens
?Higher BTUs for hotter cooking. ?Multiple burners with different temperature ranges so you can cook different items at different temperatures ?Broilers that can heat more quickly. ?Voice-activated appliance ?Controls. ?Delay start cooking that heats food as dinnertime approaches.
Microwaves
?Touch pad controls and recipes you can download from a company?s website. ?Memory features that recall your favorite recipes. The microwave then uses that information and sets cooking time, temperature, etc.
Dishwashers
?Quiet appliances that make dishwashing a serene experience. ?Two dish drawers that can be stacked on each side of the sink as a space saving solution. ?Sensors that change the wash cycle based on how dirty the dishes are.
Refrigerators
?Internet access through a screen on the door ?Sensors that determine the best temperature for vegetables, meats, etc. and adjust the interior bins accordingly. ?Appliances that can chill a bottle of wine in a short time.
As you shop for kitchen appliances, remember the big role that computers have in our lives. The benefit of all this technology is a wide selection of appliances that can make working in the kitchen much easier.

6 Easy Decorating Fixes
Sometimes you don’t need to spend a fortune to fix a decorating mistake or problem. In fact, easy and inexpensive solutions are more common than you may think. Here are six cheap and simple decorating fixes.
1) Paint. Need to update a room or give it some flair. Paint is the easiest and least expensive fix there is. With a gallon or two, about $50, you can give a room a brand new look.
2) Throws and pillows. Ok, so the sofa is getting worn and dated, but the budget won’t allow you to replace it yet. What to do? Casually drape some throw blankets across a corner and add some coordinating pillows. Don’t just put the throw over the back, have go on the corner, draping so it falls across an arm, part of the back, and over a cushion. We were selling our house and had redecorated the whole thing, but we couldn’t afford new couches even though the dog had snagged the fabric with his claws. Throws and pillows covered up the problem spots and made the boring couches look romantic and inviting.
3) Area rugs. Have a problem floor or a spot? Hide it with a rug. We had refinished hardwood floors in our first house, but there was a water stain smack dab in the middle of the room that no amount of standing could fix. We didn’t have the money to replace the floor so we bought a small oriental rug instead. While the rug seemed expensive at the time, it was cheaper than replacing half of the hardwood, added a warm luxurious feel to the room, and it has lasted nearly 20 years!
4) New cabinet hardware. Cabinets make a big statement in a kitchen or bath, but replacing them cost thousands of dollars. For a simple way to update and dress up cabinets, simply change the hardware. Get fancy knobs that make a statement. Spend a little extra than you may normally because remember how much you’re saving by not replacing your cabinets.
5) Slipcovers. Yes, slipcovers. No longer are these the horrid things your grandmother used. Now slipcovers come to be easily put on, sized to fit well, and designed to be attractive and modern. Do a Google search, and you’ll be surprised how many you can find.
6) Sponging or rag painting. Do you have a wall that’s been patched or had cracks repaired, but it’s just not as smooth as it once was? A great way to camouflage it is to sponge or rag paint the wall. The inherent texture of these painting techniques can hide a multitude of plaster and dry wall sins.
See; you don’t have to break the bank to easily fix some decorating problems.

Yard Sale Finds: Trash To Treasure
Yard Sale Finds: Trash To Treasure
by: Abigail Beal
The weather gets warmer and many of us know this means one thing: yard sales. If you are a crafter, yard sales can be great places to find someone elses castaways and turn them into your treasures.
As a person that loves to do decoupage, I am forever on the lookout for wooden boxes to decoupage. But remember that yard sale bargains can also inspire you to try a craft you havent done before. A baby quilt I found made a great pillow, when I had little practice with sewing projects.
When looking for a find, what should you look for? If you can already imagine the object taking on a new life as something else, thats great. But there are plenty of things people have overlooked that with some time and imagination can be objects of beauty in your home.
If it is broken, do you know how to fix it? A dresser without knobs only needs new knobs but a dresser without a drawer is going to take some more work. Could you replace the dresser with a wicker basket you pull in and out? Could that drawer be replaced with a flat surface you could keep items like a handbag or shoes there? Start using your imagination and the solutions will come. Most objects can be recanted, repainted, repolished and reupolstured.
Sometimes with a trash to treasure project you may think it will become one thing and you change your mind halfway through the project. Be open to inspiration. Something may catch your eye and you choose to change the color scheme or the function of the craft.
Trash to treasure crafts can be very chic. Shabby chic as it is called is found in many decorating magazines. You are also doing something good for the environment, by reusing materials.
It is also important to know that not every trash to treasure project works and this doesnt mean it isnt successful. You may succeed in learning a new painting technique or something about quilting. Or you may learn something about what kind of project you do want to put in your living room, or what you really want to create right now. Every project is part of your learning experience as a crafter and an artist.
Some great trash to treasure items include chairs, tables, dressers, vintage cocktail dresses, baby quilts, spools, jewelry boxes, suitcases, costume jewelry, dolls, picture frames, magazines, books and mirrors. You probably can find many more items that begin to inspire you to create something special.
The only challenge about becoming a trash to treasure crafter is then it becomes very hard to actually allow others in your home to throw things out! Happy crafting!

Curtain Rods And Curtains
Curtain rods today are available in an incredible assortment of styles. patterns and decorating motifs. This is because today’s buyer is well informed as feels that they should have a choice of both design and value. Curtain rods are therefore available in many sizes. from small ones for sidelight windows to enormous ones for picture window drapes. There are rods that are designed especially to blend in with certain decorating styles. such as French Provincial or Modern. You can use curtain rods to add a very personal touch to your windows. Rods can even be chosen that will completment the individual fabric you are using. such as a lighter weight rod for sheer curtains or a heavy. ornate one for brocade drapes. You can even match the rods to the hardware on your windows or doors.
The materials curtain rods are made with today is almost as varied as the styles available. You can bring the look of antique brass. copper or gold into your home with rods made to look like those materials. This old world look comes complete with the patina of age. You can further customize your curtain rods with finials of different patterns that change the look of the off the shelf rods. Finials such as this can be of such materials as brass. copper. ceramic. glass. chrystal. wood and wrought irom. The adjusting telescoping features. along with decorative brackets and rings means that the rod can be customized even further to fit your windows and decor.
Today’s curtain rods are manufactured of such quality that. even though they may look heavy and take the weight of heavy drapes. they are actually lightweight and can be easily installed. Each of the many kinds of curtain rods available serve a different purpose for your windows. Cafe rods are used for short curtains and can be used with either a panel pocket curtain. tab curtains. or curtains with rings. They may be in an enamel finish or brass to blend with with the decor. Sash rods are usually spring-like to stretch across a window or door and use shallow brackets so the curtain stays close to the glass. Wide curtain rods are typically used for specialty windows such as bay windows or corner windows and come in 2 1/2 inch and 4 1/2 inch widths. The corner connectors allow them to adapt to curves or returns in a window design. Narrow curtain rods are used for rod pocket design windows. usually for casually decorated rooms such as a kitchen. laundry room or children’s bedroom.
The proper curtain rod can really dress up the treatment of your windows when they match the size of your windows and decor of your rooms. You can make your own curtain rods if you desire a simple look for the windows. Measure the window(s) involved. and buy wooden dowels a few inches longer. for overhang on each side. You can then paint the rod and screw hooks into the wall to fit the dowel through. You can use fancy hooks or loops. and putting knobs or finials at each end will finish the rod off nicely.
