What you need to know about cruise holidays

Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of driving, sitting erect in a plane etc., go for a voyage through water- a cruise which provides you the best comfort and sight seeing. Sea journey has its own charm and charisma. The world seems a live paradise when you get the chance to gaze the Sky kissing on the forehead of Earth. Such is the unprecedented experience of the scenic splendor exclusively through a cruise. Planes and jets can make you reach your destination instantly but if you are in no hurry and in a mood to relax then a cruise is the most appropriate and a perfect idea.

There are a variety of cruises. Some vessels like Christmas market cruises are small while others ocean going ones are comparatively quite large. Then there are those that have an aura of remarkable serenity contrary to the ones that are extremely vibrant and brimming up with life. Cruises also vary according to the age groups of people. Like the serene ones are usually meant for the grown ups, while families with kids prefer entertaining cruises to keep their children busy throughout.

To take up a journey via cruise, all you have to do is to decide which place to go. Fir instance if you have cruised Bahamas then you can go for Caribbean or Asian cruise and the like. Travel agencies will let you know about the fares and special packages that are mostly available round the year especially during off-season. Cruises like planes and trains are studded with people during festive season. So if you want to travel in peace, to make a journey while festive season at your destination is not a correct idea.
Nowadays people especially the honeymoon couples opt to cruise some of the places. This is because of the heavenly experience of traveling in the midst of huge oceans and also because of a surge in the amenities available at the cruise. From ravishing rooms, delectable cuisine to small golf clubs, video games and small casinos for gamblingall add to the enthusiasm to travel through cruise. Moreover the incredible hospitality and watchfulness of the staff on the deck adds a feather to the aura of the cruise.
One more benefit of cruise is that you get to know many a people. Since you all remain in the same vessel for a while, the passengers at the end of the day start enjoying each others company and make good friends with each other. it might at times be a little harrowing to take up to a new place where you hardly know anyone.

Generally it is believed that cruises are unhygienic i.e. they are infected with harmful microorganisms. The outbreak of diseases like gastrointestinal add fuel to the fire. However, the organizations like CDC i.e. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and VSP- Vessel Sanitation reveal that such outbreaks are not directly related to the hygiene and cleanliness of the vessel. It is more often communicated from one passenger to the other. This is because in a cruise many people stay together, they touch same things one after the other like doorknobs etc. so the infection transfers frequently to one another.
It is better if you gat your medical checkup done before going to a cruise. If you are physically weak and your antibodies do not have much potential to fight microbes, avoid traveling in a cruise. Also if you are scared of water and feel sick in it, cruise isnt a recommendable option. But if none of these problems exist with you and you are a healthy person then keep several things in mind. For instance wash your hands from time to time especially before eating, keep all the safety medicines with you like headache pills and so forth. Last but not the least go with a travel insurance to avoid all hazards.

(Pullware) Staging Your Home for Sale

Staging Your Home for Sale

Setting up your
target=”_blank”>house to sell , or home staging, is the process of preparing a home for sale, regardless of price or location. Staging focuses on simple steps to make your home appeal to the largest number of prospective buyers, without spending a lot of money. Creating an ideal home for buyers can be as simple as painting the walls, rearranging furniture or clearing the kitchen countertops.

It’s essential to present your house in the best possible light. Remember how you felt when looking for a home, and how many you passed over because they didn’t look good? You have to look at your home with a buyers’ eyes!

Even though it’s your home and you still live there, it’s a good idea to get used to the fact that your house is now a product. It has pluses and minuses, as well as competition. To be competitive, your house should be priced right and look better than the others.

Probably the single most important thing you can do to prepare your home for sale is to declutter. Houses are filled with objects we love and treasure. Look in just about every home and you’ll find a shelf stuffed with favorite books, a mantel loaded with trinkets or a wall covered in family photos. But when it comes time to sell a house, those items we cherish may look like just plain clutter to prospective buyers. Your personal items make it difficult for prospective buyers to imagine themselves and their trinkets and family photos filling the mantels and walls of the home.

Since you’re going to be packing to move anyway, get a head start by making your rooms look larger and box up and store non-essential items. By removing some of the clutter, the focus shifts from the “stuff” in the room to the room itself. Specifically, lighten the load on bookshelves by packing up books, DVD’s, CD’s, etc. Remove items from kitchen countertops and magnets and photos from refrigerator. Pack up trinkets and family photos from all rooms. Clean and neaten closets, cabinets and pantries.

Neutralizing your home is also essential in creating an environment in which potential buyers can easily envision themselves moving into your home with their own furnishings and taste. Removing old wallpaper, and restoring walls to neutral colors goes a long way in ensuring your house will appeal to a larger number of buyers for a minimal investment. Neutralizing worn or colorful carpet can be costly, but replacing it before trying to sell your house will make for a faster sale and often bring back more money in return.

Cleaning from top to bottom is another key element to getting your home ready for sale. In addition to the basics, it is recommended that carpets are shampooed, door hardware is polished, and windows and baseboards are cleaned.

Take care of all general maintenance items both in and outside of your home. Remember to oil squeaky doors, tighten doorknobs, replace burned out light bulbs, re-caulk the bathrooms if necessary and repair leaky faucets or toilets.

Finally, never truer is the statement “you never have a second chance to make a first impression” than when trying to sell a home. The outside of the home is one of the most important areas because it is what the buyer sees first. A clutter-free yard and well-maintained house are essential in luring the buyer inside. From the moment a
potential buyer drives up, they should see a manicured lawn with no debris in sight and clear gutters and downspouts in good repair. It’s always recommended to spruce up your flowerbeds and add fresh mulch.

In total, there is much that can be done by a motivated homeowner to get his home in top condition for sale. Minimal effort put forth in preparing your home for sale will surely be rewarded with a quick sale at the best possible price.

How To Test-Drive A Car

Here are some of the steps you should take when test-driving a car you’re thinking of buying.

Do your research

You can find information on cars from reviews in publications like Car and Driver and Automobile Magazine , or you can get it directly from the manufacturer’s website. Learn about all the options that come standard with the ride you have your eye on, and get familiar with more important specs like engine size and mileage. If you know what the car is capable of and its limitations, you won’t fall for an embellished pitch.

Test-drive on your time

It’s tempting to get a test-drive out of the way on a lunch break, but it’s not a great idea. Every test-drive is a sales situation, and a good salesman can use your lack of time to his advantage. Take your trial spin when you have plenty of time to get all the information you need.

Seat the salesman

Just because the salesman is another source of information, you don’t have to let him disturb your driving experience. Tell him that you want to focus on the drive, being polite but firm. Rather than let him launch into his pitch, ask him questions only when you need to, and make it clear that you’re not listening to his ramblings.

Try different terrains

Drive on curvy roads, bumpy roads and highways, so as to test the car’s suspension, handling and speed. Dealerships have predetermined routes for test-drives, but you want to simulate as many driving situations as you can. Remember to tell the salesman where you want to go before setting out, as he may need to check with his manager.

Test turning

A good way to get a sense of a car’s handling is to turn at varying speeds. Does it hug the road or fly away? Also, do a couple of full circles in the parking lot. This should tell you if the car has a decent turning radius or if your three-point turns are going to be extended journeys.

Start & stop

A leisurely drive will tell you nothing about a vehicle’s performance. Accelerate hard to see what kind of guts the car has. Be sure to brake hard as well; it’ll give you a sense of how the car handles while stopping short.

Change lanes

Visibility is critical to any car. You can roughly gauge it while sitting in the parking lot, but the real test is on the road, while changing lanes. Can you take a quick glimpse at the mirrors and go, or do you need a few extra seconds to focus?

Check the climate control

Depending on the weather on the day of your test-drive, you may not even think to investigate its interior-climate system. See how long it takes for the AC to reach its peak, then do the same with the heating.

Inspect the interior

Are all the controls accessible? Do you have enough room for your legs? Don’t be afraid to push all the buttons, turn all the knobs and generally treat the interior the way a child would. Oftentimes, quality resides in the little details, and you’ll know right away if you’re looking at a winner or a cheap car.

Take a passenger

The driving experience isn’t the same as the ride. Bring a friend along and, while you’re behind the wheel, have him sit in back. He can tell you if he feels all the bumps or if the car handles poorly when you brake.

Adjust your seating

In doing this, you’ll be looking for how easy the seats are to adjust. Don’t be tempted to take the salesman’s word for it or let him demonstrate for you. You’ll be the one adjusting the seats when you buy the car, so make sure it’s easy.

Buckle up

The only way to see if a seatbelt wears comfortably is to try it on. Also have a look to make sure that its buckle won’t easily get lost between the seats.

Check the doors

Doors can tell you a lot about engineering and workmanship. A cheap car is likely to have cheap doors that feel flimsy. You want a set that feels solid and closes firmly and definitively.

Pop the trunk

There are two ways to open the trunk on most cars and you want to make sure they both work properly. First, use the keys and then open it remotely, using the button on the inside. During the latter method, check to see if the trunk springs open or if it just unhooks, leaving you to do the heavy lifting.

Listen up

During a test-drive, there are two groups of sounds that you don’t want to hear. You don’t want to hear very much noise from outside the vehicle (the car should be decently insulated) and you don’t want to hear any funny rattles from inside the car or the engine.

Make mistakes

As your habits aren’t likely to improve, you’d better make sure that your new car can handle your common mistakes. Leave your keys inside, leave the lights on, test all the warning signs and sounds, and generally behave badly.

Compare cars

Test-driving is as much about checking out a specific ride as it is about comparing multiple ones. The only way to be an informed buyer is to test out several vehicles. This will help you to get a broader sense of what else is on the market and may reveal things about your dream car that you had overlooked. Test-drive the cars consecutively so that you don’t forget anything.

Take a second spin

None of us are perfect, so even if we follow a checklist, we’re liable to miss something. A second drive never hurts. Take it a few days after the first one so you can approach it with a relatively fresh perspective.

If you are looking for ways to stretch your pocketbook while helping the environment, consider updating your appliances.

Child Safety Devices for Windows and Roller Blinds

The need to have child safety devices installed in households with children is obvious as toddlers often get themselves in potentially dangerous situations and could easily hut themselves while attempting to explore their surroundings. Even when left unsupervised for a little while they can end up getting hurt. Due to the ever increasing number of house accidents caused by windows and blinds, the industry has reacted and has come up with a variety of solutions to put an end to this phenomenon.

The threat open windows pose is

The 4 Basic Elements to Building a Green Home

Green building is more than the actual construction of your home, though that is a big part of the process. It is a beginning to end process which begins with the selection of your land, the design of your dream home, the materials and practices used during construction and finally, how you operate and maintain your dream home once it is completed. You can incorporate as many or as few of these elements into your home’s design as you choose.
You decide how "Green" you want to be.
Let’s look at the four basic elements

The 3 things you need to do to have a successful online business

The P O P Method of Success
by Natalie Williams
http://www.SmallHostingPlans.com

There are 3 main things you need to do in order to be successful with an online business.

Prepare, Obtain & Promote

Prepare
You need to prepare and establish a website. This includes a domain name, hosting account, website pages , a shopping cart and a merchant account.
When you sign up with Small Hosting Plans, you receive a domain name for 2 years, website template, and a shopping cart that is already enabled to accept PayPal as your merchant account and Checks. You are also able to upgrade the cart if you would like to use any one of over 100 other merchant accounts that are available.

Obtain
You need to obtain products to sell on your site. There are 5 main ways that people and businesses acquire products that are sold on their websites. On my own websites, I do a mixture of all of the below.
Buy items in bulk at wholesale prices and then resell for a profit.

Cons: Usually the setbacks for this method are that a) people with small home-based businesses do not have the capital required to make large enough purchases to make a high profit and b) there is not space enough to store these large purchases in a person’s home or small office.

Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Light Bulk Wholesale Directory” found at http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/light-bulk.asp
This directory is filled with companies who will sell you smaller bulk, still at a wholesale price. This allows for you to make a profit and have room for the items in your home or office before they sell.

Also, this same company offers the Market Research Wizard which is simply an amazing tool to use when deciding if a particular product will sell or not online. They offer a free trail version, so I urge you to test it out.
Market Research Wizard can be found here:
http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/marketwizard.asp

Use Dropshippers to fill their website with products.
Dropshippers are companies who will allow you to sell their products on your site and when a product sells, the customer pays you and you in turn place the order with the dropshipper and they ship the items directly to your customer. You can read more about dropshippers on the Dropshipping 101 website here: http://www.dropshipping101.com

Cons: People claiming to be dropshippers saturate the Internet offering to make you rich. These people are actually middlemen who will take your order and place it with the real dropshipper, keeping a portion of the money for themselves. These middlemen cut into your profits. One of the easiest ways to determine if they are a middleman is if they do not ask you for your Sales Tax Certificate. True wholesalers are required to obtain a resell permit from you before they can sell to you.

Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Dropship Source Directory” found here: http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/dropshipping.asp
This directory is filled with companies that will dropship, they require a tax certificate and will not charge you a fee for joining. The company that created this directory is very reputable, backed by the BBB Reliability Program and run by an honest group located in Orlando, Florida.
Also, be sure to get your Sales Tax Certificate. You can have the research for your business licenses completed for you here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/business_licenses.asp) or do it all yourself with a little help in the right direction here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/BusinessLicenses/General_Info.htm)

Join Affiliate Programs and place their products on your site

You can join the Affiliate Program of just about any company you can find online and promote the sales of their products. When you join the affiliate program, you are given a special link to their website that you place on your own site. When your website visitors click on these links, they are transported to the other companies website where they are free to purchase products. You make a commission on all sales. The difference between affiliate programs and using dropshippers is that with affiliate programs, you do not make the sale, collect the money, pack or ship anything. The main company handles everything. All you do is put the affiliate link on your site. With dropshippers, you sell the item, collect the money from the customer, put the order in with the dropshipper and then track to make sure the customer receives the item.

Cons: The only downside I’ve found to affiliate programs is that you need to occasionally check the links to make sure they still work. Sometimes a company will discontinue their program without informing the affiliates and you are left with dead links on your website. However, this is so few and far between that it shouldn’t even be listed as a con.

Solution: Here is a nifty tool that will check for dead links in any web page you enter.
http://www.stickysauce.com/cgi-local/linkcheck/linkcheck.pl

Create and Sell your own physical products

The Internet has made it easy for anyone to create and sell their own products. Are you a woodsman who loves to make birdhouses? Can you make Barbie clothes? I believe everyone has something creative inside of them.

Cons: You are one person. You will be limited to your physical capabilities and time-constraints of each day.

Solution: Well, I think they are close to successful human cloning =)

Create and Sell your own digital products

Everyone and their brother is selling eBooks with resell rights on the Internet these days.

There is one eBook that they are NOT selling and NEVER will sell?

Which one?? The one that YOU create.

People selling 10,000 eBooks for $9.95 on eBay are not striking it rich. The ones with their own website, creating the products themselves are.
Marlon Sanders, Yanik Silver, Rosalind Gardner to name a few. These people discovered early on the right way to own a business. The next time you see a digital product and you think about buying it, think instead how you could create it yourself. (Or one darn close to it). If you are like most people, you think you have nothing to write about or don’t have the skills for creating. Wrong! I know a woman who was a DJ for her young adult life, but then relied on her wealthy husband to take care of her for many years. She has NO business experience. The time came when suddenly she had to make it on her own. She thought ‘What am I going to do with no other skills but DJ’ing?”. She wrote an eBook about DJ’ing, setting up for parties, the best lists of music to play at certain gigs, etc. She’s not a millionaire, but she’s done very well for herself.

Cons: You probably still don’t believe you can do it so you will brush this topic off.

Solution: I am going to GIVE YOU a bonus right here and now that will help you achieve the above. It’s called the Extreme eBook Creations package. It contains some eBooks you need to read, plus there is an eBook Creator Program yours for free. You can collect your bonus here.
http://www.cidicon.com/mydigitalproducts/ebookcreator/retrieve-products.htm

Promote
Now that you have your site all ready, millions of people will visit and you’ll be rich overnight. Wrong again. If you build it, they will NOT come. In fact, not only will they not come, it sometimes seems like they go out of there way to stay away. Getting people to your website can be the most stressful, time-consuming, money-eating part of owning a website. But it doesn’t have to break you. There are two ways to get people to your site. 1) Pay a load of money out to blast announcements all over the place 2) Spend the time to promote it yourself in free and almost-free ways. It always amazes me that someone will pay $10,000 to have a website built for them when they can have one made for so much less (or make it themselves) and then spend that money on the advertising. That is where your budget should be. Now I am not saying skimp and have a terrible site made. There IS a happy medium where you can have a professional, functional website without breaking the bank.
So what are these free and almost-free ways to promote?

Post on message boards. There is this one particular message board I am on all the time. I just answer questions and use my website link in my signature line and you wouldn’t believe how much business I get from doing that.
I posted a message almost a year ago with my opinion on a particular online program that is popular and I STILL get emails to this day asking me more and they usually end up buying something from me.
Search on Google (http://www.google.com) for Message Boards along the topic of your website. For instance, if my website is about helping people work from home, I will look for message boards that have to do with “work from home moms”.

Become an eBay seller. It doesn’t matter what you sell on eBay, you can use your listings as a traffic driving tool. What you do is create a custom ‘About Me’ page on the eBay account. They give this page for free with every account. Then in every listing, place big links getting people to visit your ‘About Me’ page which will contain links to your website(s). My server logs show that the largest amount of traffic I receive to my website is through my ‘About Me’ page. If there is a month when I post just a few auctions, then I can guarantee you my websites sales are way down.

If you’re really in shape and have the stamina, create advertising doorknob hangers on your computer and walk around, hanging them on doorknobs.
http://www.aimforlove.com/shp/doorknob_hanger_example.htm

What is your site about? What is your product? You could probably convince stores to let you leave brochures or flyers about. For example, I began a secretarial service many years ago. I was allowed to leave my brochures on the counter of a computer repair shop. I received many customers this way and to this very day, I still have 2 great clients for who I perform secretarial duties from my home. The income from those 2 clients alone is enough to make me happy to stay home.

Google Ad Sense. You apply for an account and if they accept you (they DO turn people down), you can place some code on your website so that Google Ads will appear on your site.

The home buying process can be complicated, with many details to consider. Should you buy a house with two stories or just one? Hardwood floors or carpeting? Laminate countertops or marble? When real estate markets are hot, and energy costs are stable, buyers have had a history of only looking at the superficial elements of the home, with few taking the time to really analyze the type of heating system that is in place.

Cyprus Apartments

Cyprus apartments are a great way to spend a carefree holiday on this lovely Island paradise. The most obvious advantage of holidays in Cyprus apartments is the freedom to please yourself. If you just hate having to get up in the morning to que for your breakfast or rush back in the evening for dinner Cyprus apartment holidays were made for you. Get in when you like and go out when it suits you for the most relaxing holiday experence you could ever want. It’s all very well paying an arm and a leg to be fussed over in some zillion star luxury hotel with knobs on but you can’t beat the freedom of a holiday in Cyprus apartments.

Cyprus apartments are modern and often very luxurious with every conceivable home from home comfort plus a few more besides. Air conditioning for instance is a must at least in the bedrooms and most properties will have it installed as standard. I know you don’t go on holiday to wash and cook but if you have kids it may be a necessity so most apartments have washing machines in their fully fitted kitchens. Cyprus apartments offer a real home from home holiday experience for families and couples alike without the hassle of set meal times.

You will find an abundance of Cyprus apartments to rent all over the Island in the coastal resorts as well as the picturesque villages where you can sample some authentic Cypriot village life. The cyprus lifestyle is mainly an outdoor one due to the countries fantastic climate (over 320 days of sunshine) and that’s why most Cyprus apartments are built with such large balconies or sun terraces. Most of the eating in Cyprus is done outdoors along with the cooking, which makes barbecues the ideal alfresco cuisine. Many Cyprus apartments do in fact have built in barbecues on the sun terrace and the great news is that the weather won’t let you down either.

Nearly all the modern property complexes are built around a pool area with plenty of room for sun bathing and chilling out. You can relax with a nice cool beer and still keep an eye on the kids enjoying themselves in the water. There is always a great community atmosphere around these complexes and you are sure to meet some real friendly folks who will have made Cyprus their permanent reretirement home. In fact many of the Cyprus apartments that are rented out belong to private individuals. They will have purchased these properties for themselves and rent them to help with the day to day costs of ownership or even as payment towards a mortgage. Please bear in mind that even though you may have rented through a large company the Cyprus apartments are often someone’s home.

There is no doubt that Cyprus apartments will give you a holiday to remember and have you coming back to this beautiful Island year after year (just like we do) to soak up that glorious Mediterranean climate. The people are friendly, the weather is perfect and they even drive on the left. With so many people buying their own properties to rent out there has never been a better time to consider Cyprus apartments for your holiday. Enjoy Cyprus!

Kevin Moore owns and runs the Information Cyprus web site. Information Cyprus is the number one online resource for cyprus holidays, travel and Cyprus property purchase links. Walia Ibex

In historical times C. walie always seems to have had a very restricted range (Yalden & Largen, 1992). This species is currently found only in the Lemalimo to Walia Kend-Silki sectors of the Simen Mts. in north Ethiopia

Categorical-discrete (CD) distribution model

This species is strictly associated to montane escarpment areas with long-grass savanna, scrubs, trees and forests (Yalden & Largen, 1992; Nievergelt, 1981; Kingdon, 1997). The walia ibex is a grazer and browser. It eats bushes, herbs, lichens, shrubs, grass, and creepers. The percentages of each of these was found by one study to vary from 30% (bushes) to 10% (creepers). (Dunbar 1978)

IUCN threat category

Critically Endangered (CR: criteria C2b).

The habitat of the Walia Ibex is the High Semyen, Ethiopia’s dramatic high mountain terrain. In the earth’s long history of violent geographical change, the most recent volcanic upheavals took place in eastern Africa, followed by torrential rains which created the thousand gushing waterfalls which in turn eroded away the newly formed mountain massif, creating the great gorges and gulleys which are so typical of the region. South west of Axum the land descends gradually southwards toward the Takazze river. At the lip of the gorge at about 1,400 metres (4,600 ft.) one can look across the chasm to a similar plateau beyond. On top of this plateau, adorned with steep turrets and bastions rising in three distinct steps, is perched the north wall of the Semyen.

The mountain massif is a broad plateau, cut off on the north and west by this enormous single crag over 60 kms. (40 miles) long and 1,000-1,500 metres (3000-5000 ft.) high. To the south the tableand slopes gently down to 2,200 metres (7,000 ft.) divided by deep gorges 1,000 metres deep and taking two days to cross. Time has not yet been sufficient to soften the contours of the crags and buttresses of hardened basalt. As far as the eye can see looking north from the escarpment, the fused volcanic cores stand starkly defying the elements. Overhead stretches the vast dome of a sky of the deepest blue, which spreads downwards as clear as sapphire to the mauve of the horizon.

In this scenic splendour, lives the Walia Ibex; here and nowhere else in the world. Forced by Man to retreat, and to retreat again, it has been driven in its extremity to inhabit the most inaccessible (except to a bird or a Walia), cliffs of the Semyen escarpment. The Walia once existed in significant numbers probably several thousands in the highland massif, feeding on the cliff faces and coming up to roam the plateau at rutting time. Large herds wandered unmolested on these chilly heights.

Even up to 50 years ago there were well over a thousand. With the Italian agression in Ethiopia, the species started its dramatic decline to the brink of extinction. Guerrillas fighting the Italians and living off the country found the Walia a convenient source of meat. Later, the local people again took i up arms against the Walia, killing perhaps five in order to reclaim the meat from one. Most of them, whose wounded bodies spin and crash from the narrow ledges where they feed, into the abysses a thousand ieet or more below, are never recovered. Rarely, a rope descent will bring to the surface the meat and parts of the skin, but the trophy, the splendid horns desired by locals to make drinking mugs, and by sportsmen to decorate their sitting rooms, are usually lost forever.

First recorded in 1835 by Ruppell, and first properly observed by Powell Cotton at the beginning of the century (l900), the Walia at that time was a mythical beast and little was known of its numbers and status. The inaccessibility of its habitat combined with various historical events such as the Italian occupation and World War II, which made visits to the region out of the question for longish periods, has prevented the keepiug of a continous record since then. So until Leslie Brown made his preliminary study in the early sixties, little was known of its behaviour or habits.

A remnant of the early incursion of Palearctic fauna into the tropics, the nearest relative of the Walia is the Nubian Ibex (C. nubiana). There is a gap of several hundred miles of lowlands between the southern- most limit of the Nubian and the highland habitat of the Walia. The Walia differs in being 1arger and more massive, with dark brown as opposed to pale brown fur. The horns of the males are more massive but not quite so long, and have the knobs or ridges on the anterior surface reduced. The Walia has a bony process on the forehead. The anatomical differences together with the differences in habitat have lent weight to the argument that the Walia is a distinct species.

The terrain which the Walia inhabits is from 2,300- 4,000 metres (7,500-13,500 ft.) but chiefly above 2,500 and below 3,000 (8,000-9,500ft.). The tiny remnant population which remains is now con- fined to a range of about twenty miles of the highest and steepest bays and buttresscs of the northern escarpment. They are already extinct in all other parts of their range which once stretched from Byeda along the escarpment to Geech and Adis Gey.

The narrow vertical range which they tend to occupy today would seem to be the result of persistent hunting. They have become extremely wary and shy and chosen to be not get-atable from top or bottom. With protection maybe they will once again emerge on to the plateau.

Mountain sheep and goats have feet that are special- ly adapted for living in mountainous terrain. Their hooves have sharp edges and the undersides are concave, enabling them to adhere somewhat like suction cups. To watch even the youngest and smallest of the Walia kids gambolling about on slanted rocky ledges in a cliff face of terrifying steepness, a 500 metre drop only inches away, makes one catch one’s breath with anxiety. They never fall.

The males and the females both have horns, but the males’ are more massive. Curving back in a graceful arc to the withers they sometimes attain a length of over 110 cms. The females are smaller in body and lighter in colour with shorter thinner horns. They live in small parties of two to half a dozen and the big old males often live solitary except during the mating season. Because of the rarity of the animal, it is not often possible to observe a large male and one feels privileged to do so. The magnificent horns and striking colouration make it an unforgettable sight.

They are sturdily built animals standing about a metre high at the shoulder and weighing up to 120 kgs. Their beautiful chocolate to chestnut brown coats shade to greyish brown round the muzzle, paler grey around the eyes, lower flanks, legs and rump, and pale grey or white on the belly and inside of the legs. There is a black stripe down the outside of the legs and a white garter on each fetlock broken in the hind legs by a black streak into the cleft of the hoof. Mature males sport an elegant black beard. The tail is short with a brushlike tuft of black hairs.

You can usually observe them when come out on to the rocky ledges to sun themselves in the morning and evening. Little herds of females and young are not uncommon, or even single females with a kid at foot. Sometimes you will see a yearling group of young males which can be distinguished by their paler greyer colour and the thickness of their small short horns. They eat grass and herbs, but prefer to to browse rather than graze, standing up on their hind legs like domestic goats to reach the tender shoots of giant heath. There is no shortage of food, as inside the forest of heath there is abundant forage of herbs and sweet soft grasses. They tend not to drink although water is plentiful; it is assumed that they get sufficient moisture from the green stuff on which they feed. They usually lie up in caves or thickets during the day, although this is not an in- fallible rule and I have observed them at lunchtime - a group of youngsters playing in the sun.

The Walia’s story is not yet ended. In 1963 it was classified by the IUCN as in danger of extinction. In that year the total number remaining alive was estimated at less than 200, probably 150. Indiscriminate hunting and destruction of habitat by local people had combined to drive the few remaining animals on to the vertical cliff sides for survival- (Only four adult males have been taken since 1956 by legitimate shooting). Fortunately before the end came the Ethiopian Government recognized the danger and, in 1965, drew up plans to establish a national park to protect both the habitat and its fauna, and the park was gazetted the same year. It was found that numbers had remained steady for two years, indicating that with protection they might increase fairly rapidly. Guards were appointed from Geech to Mietgogo to curb local poaching and illegal cultivation and burning of habitat. In the past fifteen years, numbers have increased steadily, as the females are still ready and willing to breed in the caves in the cliff face.

At the present time, not less than 10% of the cliff surface is composed of broad ledges or green gullies in which Walia can feed. Brown estimates that this amount of land space can support a population of two or three thousand. The Walia has no natural enemies apart possibly from the occasional bird of prey, and thus with complete protection from Man they could be expected to recover their numbers and to double the present population in ten years.

At present it is still difficult to properly enforce the protection laws, and the local people cannot be expected to know that this animal exists only here. Nor could they realize that it could be anticipated to generate a far larger income if allowed to live and breed, than its dead parts will ever earn. It can only be hoped that the precipitous terrain in which the last survivors live will enable a nucleus herd to survive until such time as visitors from all over the world will be able to come and observe this rare creature in the magnificence of its mountain habitat.

What Kitchen Sets Can Teach Your Child

Pots, pans, a make believe oven–you’d never guess it, but there’s more cooking in your Child Kitchen Set than a plastic plate of make-believe cake. Children learn through play, and in the process of pretending to prepare for a party, or dividing chores among a family of dolls and teddy bears, they pick up important lessons in language, social interaction, and creativity.

Social skills

Ever wonder why pre-schools always have kitchen sets? They’re good tools for teaching social skills like sharing, taking turns, and cooperation. As they pretend to prepare a meal, and then sit down to “enjoy” it together, they learn that toys–and everything else in life–are more fun when shared with other people.

Imagination and creativity

The child kitchen set is very realistic–knobs, plates, and an oven you’d be proud to own yourself. But they can use their imagination to create meals no chef has ever dreamed of, and throw parties that would amaze even Martha Stewart (bet she never had the Queen of Fairyland at her table). The amazing thing about these feasts–aside from the fact that they don’t have any calories–is that they reinvent themselves each time. The game never grows old and boring, because the child can do anything. Truly, few toys have such mileage.

Manners and etiquette

Child kitchen sets can help you teach your child important manners and table etiquette. After you “cook” the play dough pot roast for the pretend party, you can show the “guests” how to thank the chef for a wonderful meal. Even an imaginary tea party (you can play the Queen of England) can lead to a lesson on how “little ladies and gentlemen” should behave at the table. Elbows off the table!

Redefining gender roles

While child kitchen sets were primarily seen as “girl’s” toys, they don’t necessarily promote a stereotype of the traditional housewife. Instead, the cooperative and social nature of a kitchen set reinforce how family chores are equally divided among men and women. Observe your children and their playmates, and how they take turns washing dishes or cutting up vegetables. And if they lapse into standard roles, it’s a good time for you to come in and “teach” them otherwise. “Daddies wash dishes too,” you can say, handing him a plastic plate.

Art skills

Child kitchen sets can come with accessories, but part of the fun is helping the child create his own special pantry. Recycle old cereal boxes and cans, but let him draw or print out his own labels and design his own logos. You can also buy clay that can be shaped into fruits, vegetables and other food stuff, before being baked in the oven to make a delicious “meal”. This may actually be a sneaky way of getting your child to learn about the basic food groups, or practice reading and writing as they copy their own “recipes”.

And who knows, all that interest in a child kitchen set will help your child become interested in real cooking and food preparation. Try giving them simple cooking chores, like washing the potatoes or helping roll the dough, or let them watch you cook so they know what to act out when they’re in their own kitchen. They may be “pretending” today, but a decade from now, you could literally taste the results of what they learned through play. As a result, a child kitchen set makes a great addition to any playroom.

How to Save Money With Kitchen Cabinet Refacing

Many people long to give a whole new look to their kitchens ? after all, this is one room in the home where you tend to spend a god deal of time, whether it is to prepare and cook food, to sit and eat meals, or to relax and entertain. However, giving your kitchen a facelift isn?t always cheap, particularly if you are looking at replacing all of the furnishings and cabinets. However, if you want to enjoy a whole new look with minimal hassle and a far lower cost then the solution lies in kitchen cabinet refacing. This is a fast and effective procedure that costs far less than replacing everything in the kitchen and enables you to enjoy a real makeover at a great value cost. You will be amazed at just what a difference this procedure can make, enabling you to change the style of this room even if you are on a budget.

Enjoy a great choice of styles when you opt for refacing

Remodelling your kitchen though refacing provides you with plenty in terms of choice as well, and you can select from a range of great cabinetry styles to find the perfect look for your kitchen. You can replace your cabinet doors and drawer fronts with stylish, modern, new ones, cutting the time it takes to complete your project and cutting the cost of getting a super new look and feel for the room. You can also add decorative accessories such as hinges, handles, and door knobs, which are all small touches that can make a big difference to the overall look. Home improvements such as this enable you to add to the look and value of your home without having to break the bank, and you can enjoy the fabulous new look of your kitchen for as long as you live in the house.

A speedy resolution from start to finish

One of the benefits of opting for refacing or refinishing over replacing items in the kitchen is that you can really cut the time it takes to get your kitchen looking perfect. If you already have cabinets and cupboards that are of a decent quality and serve their purpose well, then ripping them out and replacing them just to get a new look for the kitchen can be time consuming as well as costly. If all you want is a facelift and new look for the room, then refacing is by far the faster, easier, and more affordable option. With the wide choice of finishes available these days, you won?t have to compromise on choice, so you can achieve the perfect look for your kitchen. So, if you are considering a new look and improved ambiance for your kitchen but you are worried about time constraints or budget constraints, refacing could be the perfect solution, offering great choice, great value, and a great new look.

Computer Mice or Trackballs May Get You Sick

The Korea Consumer Protection Board tested the bacteria content of six items commonly handled by large numbers of people.

Shopping Cart Handles and Computer Mice

Shopping cart handles were the worst, containing 1,100 units of colony-forming units of bacteria for every one and a half square inches. Other measured items included:<LI>A computer mouse used at an Internet cafe: 690 units </LI>

<LI>Hand straps on a bus: 380 units </LI>

<LI>Bathroom door handles: 340 units </LI>

<LI>Elevator buttons: 130 units </LI>

<LI>Hand straps on subways: 86 units</LI></UL>

Shopping cart handles had more because their larger area gives people more places to put their hands.

Wash With Soap and Water

The report added that washing your hands with soap removes almost all traces of bacteria.

The Age.com.au February 15, 2006Science a Go Go February 15, 2006MSNBC February 14, 2006

Dr. Mercola’s Comment:Some of the most common sources of viral infections you come in contact with daily hide on commonly used itemssuch as:<LI>Shopping cart handles<LI>Bus rails or arm rests <LI>Escalator handrails <LI>Customer-shared pens <LI>Vending machine knobs <LI>Public telephones <LI>Elevator buttons <LI>Grocery store freezer handles

As in many things involving optimal health, the simple things — washing your hands with plain soap and water, cleaning those handles on your shopping cart or wearing gloves — are often the best means to protect your health.

Unfortunately, in reaction to bacterial studies like this one, more places than ever, particularly stores that sell food, offer free antibacterial wipes that contain agents like triclosan that kill human cells as well as bacteria.

Even worse, a growing number of experts believe the increased use of such products may lead to antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

That said, I am not a big fan of blaming bacteria for illness, as it is your impaired immune system that allows you to get sick. Immune system impairment typically results from not enough sleep, uncompensated emotional stress, not enough sunlight or exercise or eating sugar or too many grains.

However, clearly bacteria and viruses can and do cause illness when your immune system is impaired, and it most likely makes sense to reduce obvious exposures.

If you use a community keyboard, mouse or trackball, consider cleaning it regularly with peroxide wipes prior to using it. You could also use isopropyl alcohol, but I would advise against it as it is far more toxic to your tissue than peroxide — and it is no more effective in killing these germs.

I urge you to review an article I ran three years ago on infected keyboards too.</LI>

The Origins of Our LCD Screens and High Definiton Plasma TV in Vintage Computer Monitors

It may be amazing to current computer users who are used to small compact LCD monitors. Not only were initial computer monitors large and cumbersome but that the early monitors used by computer enthusiasts were Cathode Ray Monitors that were not color,

Initial vintage monitors were monochrome - one color only not the brilliant color displays that we take for granted today.

Some of these monochrome monitors were green or orange iridescent. Others were similar to a black and white television that is grey scale.

It is taken for granted now by young computer surfers and gamers that television was always “color”, not so.

Initially TV broadcasts were in “black and white “.

Color TV had been developed but the technology but the widespread use did not arise till the early 1970’s and even later in some areas.

The broadcasts were seen as black and white on those sets and color on color sets.
Color TVs could receive programs that were in the black and white mode as well. Sort of the backwards compatibility of the day.

What then would be the difference between the picture qualities of a television set a monitor has vastly greater resolution than standard TV sets.

The TV sets of that time (as opposed to current high end LCD and plasma high definition TVs) were basically 1950’s technology - even the newer color TV sets. .

A monitor’s screen display should be stable and of good quality, since the computer user may sit very close to the monitor and spend many hours reading the display.

If the images are fuzzy (low resolution) or waver constantly, you would have a throbbing headache and wavering eyes in no time.

Monitors have knobs to adjust for clarity. On vintage monochrome monitors these usually include a brightness knob which adjusts the illumination of the entire screen, and a contrast knob which makes the letters lighter or darker in relation to the background screen newer color monitors will have additional adjustments for color.

The question will arise - how did the vintage CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors initially handle the color technology which came later and became the accepted standard.

A typical color monitor screen worked in much the same way as a standard CRT television.

The inside of the picture tube is coated with three different phosphors: red, green and blue.

Phosphors are special chemical compounds that glow with characteristic colors when bombarded a stream of electrons.

The phosphor gets “excited” and thanks to the additive properties of the color wheel the different colored lights resulting get mixed and that all types of combinations of the three primary colors result.

The end result is that virtually any color of the rainbow can be produced.

And as for the color white the eyes play a useful trick. When all three colors are mixed together in equal quantities, the eye sees this as “white light”.

Finally the sharpness of the CRT color monitor or a TV set’s image is determined by three factors: the monitor’s bandwidth, its dot pitch, and the accuracy of its convergence.

Although the bandwidth and dot pitch are important to determine a good monitor, convergence is the real measurement.

Indeed we have come a long way from the initial simple vintage monochrome monitors. What we now take for granted with LCD monitors and indeed our high definition TV sets all originated with simple CRT monochrome monitor technology which was merged with the technology and tricks gleaned from the color TV industry.

We should all be grateful. We owe much to “Uncle Miltie”.

Are You Ready for a Plain English Guide to Internet Marketing?

Have you ever been horrified and intimidated at the convoluted, jargon-reliant information about Internet marketing available on the Net?

Often it results in many companies becoming confused and therefore reluctant to put
into practice what would be a valuable and simple business resource when understood
and applied correctly.

Market Research consultant for Inteltab, Gordon Goodfellow, who is also an English
literature graduate, decided it was time for a change. Part of this desire to make
Internet marketing more accessible may be due to his past experience as a teacher.

“I was sick of all the gobbledegook that surrounds the Internet, even today,” he
explains. “Marketing on the Net isn’t rocket science and should not be presented as such.

Everyone should have access to it. That’s the beauty of it.”

Having spent four years researching and assessing the best way of getting an effective message across on the Internet, he began to design a basic introduction to Internet marketing. The result of this hard work is Applied Web Marketing. AWM is a comprehensive beginners guide to marketing on the Internet, covering everything from
domain names to e-commerce and merchant accounts, and written in plain English. This is designed for the small business user and the home business user who does not want to spend a fortune on outside “experts”.

The key to most of Internet marketing is search engine optimisation. The key to good
search engine optimisation is keyword research. In other words, knowing which keywords or search terms people are using to find what theyre looking for on the Internet. If keyword research is done properly then there is no doubt that you will get highly targeted visitors to your website. This is obviously the professional way of going about things. It is the antithesis to the “spam” approach (unsolicited commercial emails) which achieves extremely poor results and simply annoys anyone unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end.

But which search engine should you optimise for? The search engine of choice at the
moment is Google. There are two good reasons for this. Firstly, Google is the most popular search engine on the Internet today. It is known for the quality and relevance of its search results, and so people trust it. Secondly, over the last couple of years Google has joined alliances with other search engines and directories. Yahoo, the worlds most popular directory, uses Googles database, so if you have a first page listing on Google you are likely to have a first page listing on Yahoo as well.

AOL and Netscape also share Googles search findings, so youll have similar search
results on the AOL and Netscape databases. Other lesser databases also rely on Google,
so that if you are well represented on Google, then youll be well represented on over sixty per cent of Internet search facilities.

You should also obtain a listing on the Open Directory Project (DMOZ.org) which is not much known about but very well respected in the search engine optimisation industry. The Open Directory does not use the normal search engine “spiders” or robot searchers; instead it uses over thirty thousand volunteer human editors who are ostensibly experts in their own fields. The theory behind this is that it ensures relevancy, accuracy and quality of all listings. A listing in DMOZ will therefore ensure a listing on Google and probably earn you an enhanced ranking there. Then all the others, like Yahoo, AOL, Netscape and the rest are bound to follow.

Optimisation is everything. The Applied Web Marketing website itself has the number
one position on Google out of 1.47 million search results for the search term “applied
web marketing”.

After optimisation is the submission process. Perceived wisdom of the moment says it is best to submit manually. Manual submissions to dozens of search engines and
directories can be very time-consuming, however. There are some good automated and
semi-automated software packages available out there to do the submissions for you.
But for the major players do find the time for manual submissions. Some search
engines, for example Alta Vista, make it impossible for automated submission by
software programs, because of individualised text codes that must be entered by hand at the start of the submission process, so you have to submit to Alta Vista manually as well. But that just takes about three minutes.

Dont bother with ads that say that they can “blast your web site to 500,000 search
engines”. There arent that many search engines; theres only a few hundred in total, and only about a dozen of any major importance. Youll just pay your money and be very disappointed. Most of these so-called search engines are link farms, FFA or free-for-all sites, which nobody every looks at, and which are responsible chiefly for sending out spam. If you link to such web sites you risk being penalised by the bona fide search engines.

The next thing to have lots of is patience. A listing on Google should probably appear
within a couple of weeks if you have optimised your pages properly (incidentally, if you have multiple pages on your web site, as is mostly the case, it is important only to submit the index or home page, and let Googles spider “Googlebot” to find and index the other pages itself using the links that you should have set up on your site.

The Applied Web Marketing guide has useful links to many resources, lots of them completely free, and to the submission pages of the major search engines and
directories, making it a perfect site to begin your journey into the world of Internet marketing.

How to get big results with super-cheap fliers. Kevin NunleyRita started her home-based business after a long illness. Her insurance wouldn’t cover all her medical costs. She figured she could bridge the difference by selling her popular gift mugs.

Friends and the hospital staff had been delighted with them. She found herself busily filling orders for her customers’ relatives and associates.

“Wow,” she thought. “This could be the answer to my prayers. Selling my gift mugs could earn the extra money I need each month.”

One problem remained. In order to make the plan work, Rita needed lots of new customers. Word-of-mouth from friends and past clients was wonderful, but she needed a more powerful way to get the word out quickly.

A man at an ad agency told her to have nice brochures printed, mail them to hundreds of businesses, and place a weekly ad in the Sunday newspaper.

“But you don’t understand,” she protested. “Anything I spend on marketing has to come out of the grocery money. I can’t afford any of the conventional marketing options you’re talking about.”

It’s a situation that most of us have been in at one time or another. All the wonderful marketing ideas the experts talk about–radio ads, mass mailings, card decks–all take money. They require more money than we can spend without sinking down the debt drain.

Here’s one of my favorite solutions to the “no money” marketing crunch. For about 20 dollars you can have your corner copy shop print up 1000 fliers. A cheaper, more effective way to market has never been invented. A well-designed flier is like a full-page ad delivered directly to your carefully targeted prospect. No multi-thousand dollar newspaper ad can make that claim.

Keep your flier copy simple and to the point. Your prospect may only glance at it before tossing it in the trash. You must make your offer within the first three seconds as her eyes run over the page. Start with a banner headline that sells the benefits your product, service, or organization will bring the prospect. Let them know how their life will be easier, happier, or more successful after they have bought from you.

Instruct the potential customer how to buy what you sell. A short “call me today!” or “stop by our store at lunch!” greatly increases your response. Include your name, phone, fax, email, website, location, hours–and anything else that makes it super easy for the prospect to contact you.

It costs no more to have your flier copied on colored paper, so choose a color that grabs attention but won’t make your copy hard to read. Lighter colors are best.

Many successful fliers have no pictures. Line drawings are easily copied. A photo needs to be half-toned first to give a clear photocopied reproduction. Your copy shop can prepare the photo for you. Also pay attention to the quality of the copier. Some of the newer, better maintained machines turn out photo copies that look as good as offset. The better copy shops often charge slightly more, and you may find the increase in copy quality well worth the slight increase in price.

Many shops have machines that staple rubber bands to each copy. This makes it easy to attach your flier to door knobs at homes and businesses. Be aggressive, but polite, when distributing your flier. Leave no stone unturned. Drop the fliers off on car windshields, under doors, on counters, light poles, community and office bulletin boards, and at schools.

Enlist the help of young people and youth groups to go door to door for you. Tell others with fliers that you will pass their’s around if they do the same with you.

I once put one of my fliers on a light pole in San Francisco. A year later a friend called in hysterics. “You’re in StarTrek IV!” While shooting on location, the movie crew had left my flier in the background of a scene. There was my photo and flier displayed prominently between Spock and Kirk. My message reached millions world-wide for the cost of a single copy–2 cents.

And that’s my two cents about fliers–one of the world’s cheapest publicity weapons.

(Iron art knob) Toilets: A Better Approach to the Conservation of Water

More info…
Being green is one of those things we read about in magazines or see on TV, but we rarely take the time to incorporate something like better conservation of water resources into our own lives. With an abundance of advertising for eco-friendly low-flow toilets, dual-flush toilets, or composting toilets, we’re left to wonder what it all means anyway. You might recycle, plant a garden, or buy earth-friendly products, and, while this is helpful, there are more measures you can take to help the environment that have double or even triple the impact.

You decide how &quot;Green&quot; you want to be.
Let’s look at the four basic elements

Traveling in Wheelchair

Traveling always give a person the feeling of excitement and fulfillment. Visiting new places, eating at a great restaurant or watching your favorite football game at the stadium is a great way to spend a free time. But for disabled individuals, especially for those in a wheelchair, these activities can be overwhelming and difficult. But there are things disabled people can do before traveling to make the experience more relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable.

Say for instance you are thinking of having a meal at restaurant that you saw in the advertisement offering great foods. You can call ahead to make a reservation and to make sure that they have facilities that accommodates disabled individuals. You would not want to arrive at the restaurant and find out that they don’t have ramps and as a result they have to carry you to get inside the restaurant. Nor is it amazing to find out that their bathrooms can accommodate average sized people only but not you and your wheelchair. It is, thus, good to call ahead to make sure that you have a great dining experience.

Here are several questions you can ask when calling for a reservation in a hotel or restaurant. First, ask if they have elevators or stairs. Do they have ramps or elevators in all floors of the building? You can also ask how wide their doors are and what kind of knobs, latches or handles they have. How big their bathroom is? And some other questions that you think you need to know. If the restaurant or hotel has problems with accommodating disabled individuals, you can try talking to the management for the necessary adjustments.

Most business places today are required by the Americans with Disabilities Act to have facilities appropriate to disabled individuals or make adjustments in order to accommodate them. But of course, every disabled person’s need is unique. Hence, your needs will really depend on your environment. If you are in a rural hotel you cannot expect them to offer you the same services given by those in urban places. But still, they have to provide adjustments in order to accommodate you.

So before you get on on with your travel it is important to make the necessary preparations to make sure that you have a great experience. You need not regret anymore that you have chosen the hotel or restaurant because they did not provide you the necessary accommodation. When you come prepared you can be sure to make the most of your traveling experience.

How Do Electric Guitars Work - All You Need to Know.

Guitars come in various shapes, sizes, looks and design. The music world has classical acoustic guitars, semi-acoustic guitars, electric guitars, hollow body guitars, jumbo guitars, ‘S’ hole guitars etc. Each of these guitars has its own characteristic generic looks, characteristic sound and tonality, which attract their own respective following. Overall, guitars can be classified into two broad categories: acoustic guitars and electric guitars.

How Does a Guitar Work?

To know how guitar work, let us first see what is common to the working of any guitar. Every acoustic guitar has a minimum of six parts - the guitar neck with guitar nut and headstock, fret board, tuning keys, Guitar Bridge, sound box and guitar strings. Each of these parts is crucial to the good working of the guitar and plays its own roles to dole out music.

The guitar strings are long strands of metal or nylon wire, which stretch along through the major length of the guitar. There are normally six strings in a guitar (for the most common six-string guitar). All of these six strings run parallel to each other and are interspersed with a small gap between them. There are the sound generators of the guitar.

Strings generate sound for the guitar by vibrating along their vibrating length. The guitar bridge on one end and the guitar nut on the other end fix the vibrating length of a guitar string. The strings are tied onto a guitar under tension. The strings are plucked by fingers or with a pick. The tension in the string (varied about with the help of tuning keys) makes the string to vibrate.

Up to this point, the working of all guitars is the same. What happens next is what categorizes whether the guitar is an acoustic guitar or and electric guitar.

Working of Acoustic Guitars

All guitars have strings that vibrate which are the principal sound generators of the musical instrument. If you pluck a string tied under tension (no, no! not on a guitar!) you will find that the sound produced is not what you will want to hear again and again as you would like to hear the sound of a good guitar. Moreover, the sound from bare strings is very soft and you will barely be able to hear them. The sound has to be amplified so that people far and near can hear them. This is where the sound box from the acoustic guitar comes in. The sound box of an acoustic guitar is made as an hollow body constructed out of wood. It uses the ‘acoustics’ of the shape of the hollow body, material characteristics etc to amplify the sound generated by the string. The sound box of a guitar gives it its characteristic sound.

How Does An Electric Guitar Work?

Electric guitars amplify the sound generated by the guitar strings electronically. Instead of the sound box of an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar has pick-ups and other electronic components. The pick up from an electric guitar picks up the sound waves generated by the strings and converts them into their corresponding minute electrical signals. There are different types of pickups. Commonly used ones are magnetic pickups, piezo electric pickups, condenser pick ups etc.

The converted electric signal then passes through the various electronic components mounted on the guitar and finally into the sound amplifier which electronically amplifies the sound. The electronic components on the guitar modulate the converted electric signal to suit the guitarist. Most commonly found components on guitars are the volume control knob (which enables the guitarist to control the volume of the guitar sound) and tone control knobs (which enables the playing guitarist to determine the sound tonality).

Looking for a pump for your pond?

Spring will be here soon, and many of you will either be looking for a pump for your pond, or be looking to replace a non-functional pump.

The pump is one of the most important features of a pond, because without a pump, there will not be any trickling or moving water, and you will effectively have a bog. If you choose the wrong pump, your water will either not flow the way you desire, or you may have insufficient flow to filter your water and/or feed your waterfall. Therefore, it is worth taking the time to choose the proper pump to suite your needs. The first question you should ask yourself is: “What functionalities do I require from my pump?” Are you using your pump to drive a waterfall? Do you have a statue? Or do you need a pump to circulate your water and drive a filter?

Many people require a pump merely to circulate and filter their water. It is recommended that you circulate your pond water at least twice every hour to ensure that mosquitoe larvae do not accumulate in stagnant water. Thus, you should measure the number of gallons in your pond and obtain a pump that pumps at least twice that volume every hour (I.e. the gallons per hour rating, or GPH, should be twice that of the pond volume). If your pump needs to feed a biological and/or mechanical filter (E.g. submersible, pressurized, and above-ground filters), make sure that you consult the manual for the filter to determine the minimal required water flow to run the filter.

You will need to increase your pump rating to accommodate both fish and waterfalls. Calculating the proper pump for waterfalls is a bit trickier, because waterfall pumps are rated by both GPH and maximum waterfall height. To estimate your waterfall’s height, you must measure the vertical height from the top of your pump to the top of your waterfall or stream. In addition, you must add another foot of height or lift for every 10 feet of hosing you will be using (to account for loss of volume from hose resistance). The general rule of thumb is that each inch of width of the channel will require an extra 100 GPH. For example, if your stream or waterfall spillway will be 10 inches wide, you will need a pump that generates an additional 1000 GPH of flow at your waterfall’s height. One affordable line of pumps that we recommend is the Algreen MaxFlo line of waterfall pumps. These pumps (rated at 2200 GPH and 3170 GPH) are powerful submersible units that can fit into any skimmer.

Go to http://www.gardensupermart.com/buypond/c230094p16750414.2.html for more information about the Algreen MaxFlo.

If you wish to feed water into a statue, you will need a smaller pump that has a large head (I.e. maximum pumping height), and preferably an adjustable flow control. The highest quality pumps that we have found are the SICCE magnet-driven statuary pumps. These pumps have a built in sponge filter, vibration-damping rubber pads that allow them to run in absolute silence, suction cups at the bottom to increase their stability, and variable flow-rate adjustment knobs. The SICCE statuary/fountain pumps vary from 60 GPH up to 468 GPH and can generate maximum heights of up to 7′ and 4″”. The various models in the SICCE line include the Extrema, Irda, Nova, Micra Plus, Micra, and the Mi-Mouse.

Go to http://www.gardensupermart.com/buypond/c230094p16500776.2.html for more information about SICCE statuary pumps.

If you have multiple pond considerations, or you’re not sure which pump to choose, you can always go with a multi-purpose pump. Magnet-driven multi-purpose pumps usually come with mechanical pre-filters to trap large debris, variable flow control, built-in fountain with various fountain heads, and diverter values to allow you to split your output flow into multiple devices (E.g. watercourses, statues, and larger external filters). Several examples of multi-purpose pumps include the Shott Nursery Pro, Algreen SuperFlo, and the Algreen UltraFlo.

Go to GardenSM.com and save up to 70% on Shott Nursery Pro multi-purpose pumps! For more information, click on http://www.gardensupermart.com/buypond/c230094p16738392.2.html

Before you start building your pond, you should take the time to consider the many pump options available. Make sure you shop around to find the most affordable and the most effective pump to meet all of your requirements.

Kitchen Organizing 101: a recipe for organizational success

There is no doubt that these days the hub of the home is the kitchen. It is the place we gather to spend time with family and friends. Many of us do our main entertaining in an open floor plan that has a kitchen/family-room combination. As a result, the kitchen has become the most difficult room in the house to keep clean. Our usual organizational challenges of overflowing cabinets and exploding junk drawers are compounded by mail, toys, clothes and all sorts of clutter. If your kitchen could use some help getting organized, try this recipe for organizational success.

1. Know Your Objectives

Start by creating an organizational plan. Establish stations within your kitchen just like a restaurant does: prep area, cooking, baking and cleaning. Organize your kitchen into these four quadrants by keeping related items together in the same area.

Break the job down into sections. Try to finish one section per day. Don’t let the size of the job overwhelm you. Take it one small step at a time. Before you know it you will have finished. As the saying goes, How do you eat an elephant? You eat it one bite at a time.

2. Inexpensive Storage Solutions

Your storage solutions don’t have to be expensive. Check the dollar stores for plastic bins, baskets and containers. Check stores that carry overstocks, closeouts and slightly dented items for great deals on storage racks and freestanding units.

Find creative ways to reuse items you already own. Try this inexpensive storage solution for spice bottles: cover the bottom half of a shoebox with the same contact paper you used on your shelves. Fill the box with your spices and set it inside your cabinet for easy “pull-out retrieval”. If you are short on cabinet space but have plenty of wall space, try using an old bureau to store canned goods, towels or extra dishes and cookware.

Don’t forget to “nest” items inside one another. For example pots of graduating sizes can sometimes be fit one inside the other.

3. Toss out the Clutter

Get rid of what is old or that you don’t use. Toss expired herbs, yeast and baking powder. If you can’t remember the last time you used some of your cooking gadgets, why not send them off to a new home where they will be appreciated. Make a vow to not bring in any more small appliances, gadgets or knick knacks. Clear off the counters and decide what really needs to be out. If an item has no use in the kitchen it needs to be put somewhere else. Bag or box the items to be dumped, donated or given to a friend.

4. Clean It

Clean out one cabinet at a time. Wipe down the shelves. Clear and wipe down countertops. If you have tile, now is a good time to clean the grout with a degreasing solution. Replace tattered dishtowels. Replace torn or worn shelf paper. Clean out the inside and outside of the refrigerator. Clean the oven. Don’t forget to clean the top of the range and the knobs. Dust the ceiling fan. Dust the top of your cabinets and refrigerator.

5. Home Sweet Home

Every item needs its own home. When items have a designated place they tend to get put away. If they don’t have a home then they tend to get lost.

Utilize bins and baskets wherever possible to keep “like things” together and at easily accessible. Go vertical. The important concept here is that any time you use vertical space it will free up horizontal space. Utilize the empty vertical wall space in a nearby closet by installing shelves that can be used to store canned goods. Install hanging broom and mop holders. Employ hooks, pegboards, and Lazy Susans. If your counter space is at a premium, see if you can mount some of your small appliances under a cabinet.

6. Efficiency in design

Organize your kitchen for maximum efficiency. Place items near each other if they will be used together. For example: if your coffee maker sits on the counter, store the coffee cups, cream and sugar in the cabinet above it.

7. Never Let Clutter Back In

Once you have spent all that time organizing your kitchen, you’ll want to make sure that the clutter stays out. Set some time aside once a month to check for clutter buildup. Also spend a few minutes each night putting away anything that doesn’t belong in the kitchen. Nip that clutter in the bud before it takes root.

If you hadn’t already noticed, the first letter of each rule spells out the word kitchen. It’s a handy little way for you to remember each rule.

Happy organizing!

Tips on Metal Detecting in the Rain

A third style, the Printed Spiral, is made only by Tesoro for use with pulse
induction circuitry. It offers good sensitivity to a broader range of target
sizes and improved sensitivity to less conductive targets such as fine gold
chains. All searchcoils are electrostatically shielded and waterproof.

If you are planning to buy a metal detector to join the treasure-hunting
fun, here are some tips to guide you so that youll get the best deal
possible. Metal detectors can be pricey, so youve got to invest your
money well. If this is your first metal detector purchase, consider getting
some professional and expert advice to make sure that you have making
the right choice. Metal detectors usually come with a complete control
box containing the controls, circuitry, batteries, microprocessor, and the
speaker. Metal detectors also include a search shaft that connects it to
the coil and the control box.

Metal detectors come with a control box that contains the circuitry,
controls, speaker, batteries and the microprocessor; a shaft that connects
the control box and the coil; a search coil that actually senses the metal;
and a stabilizer that keeps the unit steady as it is moved.

Tips on Metal Detecting in the Rain

The winter has passed, spring is on its way, and along with it comes the
spring rains. You and your favorite metal detector have been waiting for
the snow and the ice to melt to give way to sunshine and excellent
weather that’s fit for your favorite hobby - unfortunately, the perfect
spring weather isn’t exactly perfect, as it also brings about rain showers
every now and then. The good news is that you can still go metal
detecting in the rain. Here are some tips about how you can do exactly
that, and be effective in the process.

When metal detecting in the rain your metal detector will need
protection. You should also purchase a commercial meter rain-cover. This
is to ensure that your metal detector won’t get soaked from the rain.
Sometimes, however, the problem with commercial rain-covers is that
they tend to get moist from inside, so it is difficult to read the meter. It is
also an added expense, obviously. So if you do not want to shell out cash
to purchase a commercial meter rain-cover you can opt to use ordinary
plastic grocery bags. It may not be as secure and will not give the same
protection as a commercial rain-cover, but it’s good enough to let you go
on with your metal detecting even in the rain.

A good way to view the purchase is to decide how much money you are
comfortable spending. It is our view that you measure this purchase
against other purchases you have made.

Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a
great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts
with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector
should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting
at detect-metal.info. My recommendation is to simply allow mining
companies to clean up this contamination in the California watershed
through large dredging and sluicing operations without risk of civil or
criminal liability, and possibly for a profit. We must also allow recreational
miners greater access with fewer restrictions in the smaller creeks and
streams that would be inaccessible to mining companies.

Youve got to buy a metal detector that could withstand normal wear and
tear longer than its competitors. The longer the metal detector can serve
you, the better your return on investment will be.

The large coil can be found in the search coil of the detector while the
small coil is found on the System Control Pack. The coils are connected to
an oscillator which produces pulses of current. The pulse passes through
the coils in order to generate radio waves. Mention the words metal
detector and you’ll get completely different reactions from different
people. For instance, some people think of combing a beach in search of
coins or buried treasure.

As much as you need protection from the rain for your metal detector,
you also need protection from the cold wind and the rain showers
yourself. Purchase a wetsuit which will keep you from getting soaked,
helping you stay warm and cozy. It is also ideal to bring a raincoat other
than your wetsuit, to keep the chill from penetrating - especially when it
is windy.

With regard to metal detector headphones, waterproof headphones are
best, but regular headphones work as well. The best thing about going
on metal detecting trips in the rain is that common metal detecting hot
spots are usually empty during a rain shower. You will have the whole
area all to yourself, minus the nosey tourists and other metal detecting
enthusiasts. Also, because the ground is soaked during the rain, the metal
detector is able to pick up on signals in deeper targets, allowing you to
dig in deeper holes. Find the best gold metal detector today and start
treasure hunting!

So don’t let a little rain keep you from the chance to discover valuable
finds with your metal detector, because metal detecting in the rain is
totally possible, and can be really fun too! When hand-held detectors are
switched on, a red signal pattern in transmitted from the coil to the
ground. When the signal comes in contact with a metal, it interrupts the
signal and the detector alerts the user with an audio signal and flashing
lights.

So next time you loose that ring at the beach or you dime at the park
remember there are ways to find you beloved object. Have Fun. Some
users put a rubber band around the knobs to keep them from moving or
becoming loose. You should buy a metal detector that is light weight.
This is important when you are detecting things on a riverbank or body of
water.

Most metal detector companies also offer supplementary services like
designing, material sourcing, prototyping, short run manufacturing,
upgrading or re-designing, assembly services and specialty packaging.

Enhance your home with glow-in-the-dark technology

Many of us might have come across “glow in the dark” effects in the form of a green glow, found on the hands and dials of some clocks and watches. Purpose of this is to allow one to be able to tell the time, in the dark.

What if we could apply this glow in the dark technology to normal products around us. We could make signs, banners, billboards, glow in the dark. We could also make curtains, carpets, clothes, glow in the dark. We could apply this on light-switches, remote controllers, door knobs, key holes, key chains and a list of other daily utilized products and make them glow in the dark.

You might now be wondering as to why anyone would want to do this or how could someone benefit by doing this. Well! for starters, safety is one important reason.

My estate had a power failure recently and the whole area was plunged in total darkness suddenly! Luckily for me, I had glow in the dark technology, used in key areas, throughout my house. I made direction signs using glow in the dark stickers and pasted these all over the house. I also placed signs leading to the emergency kit containing lamps, candles and torchlights. By doing this, my family and I, were clearly guided to the emergency kit and got our house lighted up again.

Now we come to the part on what this product actually is and how to apply it. Glow in the dark comes in powder form. This powder can be mixed with other raw materials like paint, plastics, rubber, glass, fibre and other clear materials. I found some good information on how to use and apply it from http://www.glowinfo.com This site also deals in a wide range of Glow in the Dark Products like - glow paint, glow stickers, glow cloth, glow plastic and more…

Now, anyone can easily apply glow in the dark technology around them, just by using these ready made products available online. Besides safety, glow in the dark can also be used for decoration. http://www.darkniteglow.com has this product called “Night Sky”, which allows you to transform any ordinary ceiling, into a night sky with glowing stars. I have not purchased this but saw the effects when I went over to my friend’s place. He did this in his video room and I was amazed at the result. He also lined the edges of his bar counter and pool with glow stickers. It gives off a soothing effect which is very relaxing.

When I first came across this product, my first thoughts were, is it safe or is it something radioactive. After doing some research at how-stuff-works, I found that it is actually phosphor. All glow-in-the-dark products contain phosphors. A phosphor is a substance that radiates visible light after being energized. Occasionally you will see something glowing but it does not need charging. The most common place is on the hands of expensive watches. In these products, the phosphor is mixed with a radioactive element (like radium), and the radioactive emissions. So if your glow product requires charging, it is safe to use and non-radioactive.

Learn French Online and Educate Yourself before the Next Generation Catches You Up

Ever wished to visit France? Walk thru the Champs Elysees? Climb upon the Eiffel Tower? To sail on the Seine? Did you really think to realize that without knowing a scratch of the French language. Common. Stop kidding me! Everywhere around the world people speak different languages but it seems that we are a little bit behind that kind of technology. Doesn’t that makes you wonder? We should prepare ourselves to get educated. We always send our children to the best schools to master a lot of things like French language but do you even know a little bit about it?

This is just a sneak-peak of where you should start.

Greetings: Monsieur Dupont meets Madame La Baronne.

Monsieur Dupont:

Bonjour Madame! (Hello Madam!)

Madame La Baronne:

Bonjour, Monsieur Dupont! (Hello, Mister Dupont!)

Monsieur Dupont:

Comment allez vous? (How are you?)

Madame La Baronne:

Tr?s bien, merci. Et vous? (Fine, Thanks. And you?)

Monsieur Dupont:

Je vais bien, merci. (I’m well, Thanks.)

Well is it that hard? No, you see! We really need to get started to be educated before to try to educate others.

This is my 3-T Formula to learn French and mush more: Tools, Tips and Techniques!

? Learn a lot and master what you’ve learned.

? Take action by listening, reading and writing what you’ve learned.

? Rehearse it with your partner by using all of your knowledge.

? And be patience to understand and to make understand.

A lot of people think that by hanging some name cards on door knobs they are going to learn French but it isn’t that easy. Believe me. Personally I speak fluently four languages and that all with confidence. I learned two of them at home because my mother spoke Dutch and my father French. I learned English by watching American television for a couple of years with French and Dutch subtitles. And the last year I’ve just learned to speak Arabic by living and working in Egypt. So now you see that this is the proof that your brain is unconsciously working while you’re wasting your time like a lazy ? in your sofa watching TV, or listening to your parents or just living in another culture with another language. Thus this will be your lethal weapon to learn French and other languages because your brain is really unconsciously working.

So now you know all that you just need to take the right steps to advance and become a real educated citizen in this wide wide globe of multi-lingual cultures.

Everaert Patrice is “TheFrenchMaster” on his blog: learnfrenchonline.blogspot.com and he wants you to join him to become fortuned in vast knowledge and mush more. So visit us on: How to Learn to Speak French Online

Did You Ever Realize That Car Covers Say A Lot About You?

When accessorizing your car, covers may be one of the most important things you pick out. These are often overlooked or get lost in the shuffle of gearshift knobs, rims, and antenna balls. However, they should not be overlooked when it comes to the overall life of your car, and how it looks during that life.

In regards to protection, there are many things to consider when shopping for car covers. Whether you are into snowboarding and have an SUV or your hobby is cartoon characters and you drive a sports car, there are car covers that will fit your individual personality.

You will find there are all kinds of covers. You can get one that is a plain gray or taupe color, or you can make sure your car has style even when it is covered. You will find they come in all sorts of colors and designs. If you wanted, you could get a cover for every day of the week, plus two for Sunday! Let’s take a closer look at some more of your options.

One of the first decisions to be made when buying covers for your car, is the color. Do you want red, black, white, green, purple, pink…the list goes on and on. Once you have decided on a color, then you have another choice to make. Do you want a logo or phrase on your car covers?

These can either be embroidered or silkscreen. You can have almost anything put on your car covers if you have it done custom. If you want phrases like “Can’t Touch This,” or “This IS My Other Car”, you can most likely find someone who can put it on there. Also, you can add logos such as the Ford oval, the BMW propeller or the Audi circles.

If your tastes lean towards NASCAR, you can have the number of your driver of choice put on it. If you go away form cars, along the lines of football or baseball, hockey, soccer or even golf you can have your car covers made with these emblems as well. It is all about what makes you and your car yours.

This is just a small sampling to show that you don’t have to stop at the ‘boring’ brown, taupe or gray cover. Everybody has seen them. Yours should stand out and make people take notice. Your car isn’t like very one else, why should the cover be?

Summary:

Car covers can go along way towards customizing your car. It can have a variety of elements on it from colors to emblems. They not only protect your car, but car covers also show the personality of the cars owner.

Organizing Your Laundry

Organizing Your Laundry
By: Janet L. Hall

Does it seem like your laundry is multiplying:

Fear not because you are not alone! Paper, toys, and laundry are usually on the top of all my home clients list of causing chaos and frustration. According to The Tide Clothesline? at http://www.clothesline.com the average household washes 7.4 loads about 50 lbs. - per week and the average load contains 16 items. They go on to say that in a typical household, more than 6,000 articles of clothing are washed each year!

Id like you to ask yourself and answer the following questions; I hope these will help you in evaluating your situation. I have added suggestions and some thoughts for you to ponder on after the questions.

1. Who do you do laundry for? 2. Who can do their own laundry?

If youre washing for everyone in the home and you have children/spouse that can reach the knobs on the machines, ask them for HELP.

? Teach them to be responsible for their clothing and show them how to sort, wash, fold, and put away. ? Post washing and drying instructions near the machines. ? Develop a schedule for family members that can wash their own clothes.

3. What kinds of clothes are piling upchildrens, towels, sheets, etc.?
4. What help can you get from others?

? Assign and limit 1-2 towels to each family member per week.
? Wear clothes more then once. ? If you have children that are too young to do their own laundry, teach them to sort clothes and/or fold towels, underwear, socks. Depending on their age, dont expect it to be perfect but praise them for their help. ? Show children where their folded items go (make it easy for them by storing those items in bottom drawers).

5. When do you prefer to do laundry? 6. When do you have time to do laundry?

? Decide if you prefer to do laundry in the morning, in the evening, during the week, or only on weekends. ? Pick a day and time that youre not going to be constantly interrupted or tempted to play. ? Place yourself on a schedule and system if you cant get help.
? Time yourself and your machines cycles; sort, wash, machine or line dry, fold, sort and put away to help you determine how much time you need for each load. ? Wash, dry, and put away by person or room.

Sample schedules:

Stay at home two loads a day schedule: If you stay or work from home try starting a wash load in the morning while the coffee is brewing, throw that load in the dryer or hang at lunch time, and start another wash load. Right before or after dinner, take the dried load out and put the other load in. Fold while dinner is cooking, watching the news, or waiting for pages to load on the Internet. Get the last load out and fold before going to bed. Make sure you put each person/rooms in a sorted pile to make putting away quicker and more efficient. (My mom use to use the couch, bed, or a table to fold and sort onto, she would then pile the piles into the basket by person and room and distribute them on our beds for us to put away).

Away from home one load a day schedule: If you go out to work you can try throwing in a wash load before going to bed at night and tossing them in the dryer before leaving for work. As soon as you walk in the door, get them out of the dryer and fold while youre checking your phone messages or email. Put away before retiring for the night.

7. Where is your washer/dryer located? 8. Where does everyone put his or her dirty clothes? 9. Where do you like to or would like to fold clothes?

? Your washer and dryer might not be located in a convenient place, such as the basement. More and more builders are starting to place these machines in hallways, kitchens, and even bathrooms. If you have the funds and space, you might look into relocating your machines. ? Install a laundry shoot in the bathroom closet or area that is convenient for everyone to use. If that isnt possible, designate a place for everyone in the home to put his or her dirty clothes.
? Find a place in the home where you are comfortable and have plenty of room to spread out and sort/fold clean clothes.

10. Why are you responsible for everyone clothes?

You are the only one that can answer this one .

11. How often do you want to do laundry?

? Decide if you want (I know, no one wants to do laundry) to do laundry daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Then ask if you need to or are you able to.

12. How many articles of clothing does each family member REALLY need per week, season, and special occasion?

? This is the time to be REALLY HONEST with yourself and will depend on your answer to # 11. How many articles of play, casual, dressy, work, holiday, seasonal, and special occasion outfits does each family member need? If they have too many, you will never stay ahead of the dirty clothes.
? Recycle, sell, or donate clothes that arent being used or that you have an abundance of. ? If you or your family are putting on and taking something off (and throwing it in the dirty clothes) because it doesnt fit right, look right, or you/they dont really like itget RID of it!

Laundry Tips:
Always try and wash a full load. Wash hand towels and smaller items of same color range with large articles, such as sheets and table cloths. Make sure you and others know how to use the proper cycles on machines to minimize wrinkling. Put a clothes rack by the dryer and hang clothes as they come out; put away by person/room. If you cant hear the buzzers on the machines or tend to lose track of time, set a timer for the length of the cycle and keep near you.
Clothes that need ironing should be washed first so you can iron while the other loads are being done. Wash delicate, underclothes, and hand washables while taking a shower.

Please remember that anything you try you MUST give it a chance to work, at least a month. If you find something not working, try another schedule or approach for another month until your clothes stop multiplying.

I hope some of these tips and hints will STOP the major reproductive system of your laundry. Good Luck!

Smiles, not Piles,
Janet

RHUBARB-GIFT FROM THE GARDENArleen M. Kaptur

Rhubarb - you either love it or not. There doesnt seem to be any
in-between when it comes to this fruit that lends itself from a pale
pink to a ruby red hue.

This strange looking plant with its giant leaves and pink stems comes
originally to us from China and Tibet. These ancient cultures used the
rhubarb for medicinal purposes. Its leaves are very toxic, and they should
never be eaten.

Here are a few country-fair recipes for rhubarb - pick your favorite
and see if your family can decide if they are rhubarb enthusiasts.

RHUBARB CREAM PIE -

2 cups rhubarb, washed, dried, and cut into 1 inch pieces

1 cup granulated sugar

2 tbs. all-purpose flour

1/2 cup milk

2 eggs, separated

Mix the sugar, flour, milk and egg yolks together. Pour this mixture over
the cut rhubarb and mix together well. Pour into an unbaked pie shell
and bake in a 425 degree oven until the fruit is tender and the filling is
a custard consistency.

You can add meringue to the baked pie using the egg whites and 3
tbs. of sugar.

Brown in the oven for about 10 mins.

Cool and serve.

RHUBARB COOKIE TREAT

4 cups trimmed, washed, and diced rhubarb

2 cups sugar divided

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

2 tbs. sweet-cream butter

2 eggs, slightly beaten

1 cup flour

1/2 tsp. salt

Heat oven to 350. Using a pre-buttered baking pan, place diced rhubarb in pan
and sprinkle with 1 cup of the sugar and all of the cinnamon. Heat in oven for
about 20 mins. Remove from oven and set aside.

Cream together 2 tbs. butter and 1 cup sugar. Add the eggs, gently stir in the flour, and add the salt. Mix gently incorporating all the ingredients.
Pour this
mixture over the hot rhubarb. Bake in oven for 1 hour. Remove, cool, and cut
into squares
.

FAVORITE RHUBARB TREAT

1 cup flour

3 tbs. powdered sugar

1/2 cup sweet-cream butter

2 cups trimmed, washed, diced rhubarb

2 eggs

1-1/2 cups sugar

1/4 cup flour

1/2 cup orange juice (not concentrate)

3/4 tsp. salt

Mix the flour, powdered sugar and butter together and press into the bottom
of an ungreased 7-1/2 x 11-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 mins. Remove
from oven and set aside.

Mix the rhubarb, eggs, sugar, flour, orange juice and salt together. Pour onto the
baked crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins. Using a knife inserted in center, check to see if the center is set. If not, bake for an additional 5-8 mins. Test
again, and when knife comes out clean, remove, cool, and serve.

Here is a very different kind of jam. Try it - you just might make this your
favorite!

EASY RHUBARB JAM

4 cups trimmed, washed, and diced rhubarb

2 cups granulated sugar

1 (3 oz.) box raspberry jello (Do not make the jello - just use the powder)

In pan, combine all the ingredients above.

Simmer over a gentle, low heat until well cooked.

Pour into fancy glass jars.

When the jam has cooled, cover with plastic wrap and store in your
refrigerator.

Easy and tastes great!

There is nothing nicer than combining two seasonal favorites and discovering
that two good things make one great pie!

RHUBARB/STRAWBERRY PIE

1-1/2 cups rhubarb, trimmed, washed and cut into small pieces

1 cup fresh washed, trimmed, and sliced strawberries

1 cup granulated sugar

2 tbs. flour

2 tbs. sweet cream butter

1 tbs. cold milk

1 9 unbaked pie shell, ready-made or made from scratch

Combine the rhubarb, strawberries, sugar, flour, butter and milk. Gently blend
and then pour into unbaked pie shell. Dot mixture with remaining 1 tbs. butter. Cover pie with additional pie crust, or use strips of pie crust for a lattice design.

Also, if using an additional pie crust, combine equal amounts of flour (about 1/2 cup),
sugar (about 1/2 cup), and about 3 tbs. softened sweet-cream butter. Cut with pastry blender or two knives. You will get very tasty
crunchies to sprinkle on top of your pie crust. Flute the edges of the two crusts together before using the sprinkles.

Bake in a 450 degree oven for 10 mins.

Reduce oven to 350 and bake for 30 mins. or until crust/or crunchies are
lightly browned.

Remove from oven and cool on rack.

Serve with vanilla ice cream for a very special pie ala mode.

Hope these recipes make a rhubarb lover out of you and your family.

Flu Symptoms - Facts - Preventive Measures and What to Do if You Already Have the Flu

The flu (shortened from Influenza, also known as Grippe) is a highly contagious viral infection that occurs in the winter months and early spring. It attacks suddenly with symptoms we are all familiar with. You may begin to experience the symptoms from one to four days after getting infected by the flu virus.

Symptoms:

  • Fever ? Generally between 101F and 102F
  • Chills
  • Sore throat
  • Severe headache
  • Prostration
  • Nasal congestion
  • Sneezing
  • Aching muscles
  • General fatigue
  • Loss of appetite

Some Facts:

  • Typical of the flu: Rapidity to spread and highly contagious.

  • Incubation period: From one to four days.
  • You can catch the flu from someone who looks perfectly healthy as the infected person can infect others before he or she experiences any symptoms.

  • During the first five ? seven days after the onset, you can still infect others.
  • There are three different general categories of influenza viruses: Type A, Type B and Type C. All three types can mutate or change into new strains. Type A mutates consistently, creating new strains of the virus. So what are the consequences of this? You can never develop a permanent immunity to the flu.

  • In uncomplicated cases, the intense symptoms last for a few days, followed by a progressive recovery to normal health.

  • In advanced cases, pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infection and dehydration may occur.

Transmitted by:

  • Touching contaminated objects by infected individuals, such as keyboards and doorknobs.

  • Inhaling air that contains the virus. Stay away from people who are coughing and sneezing during the flu season.

Preventive Measures:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid crowds.
  • Don?t sleep in a room with someone who has the flu.
  • Don?t smoke and don?t drink alcohol, as these substances will lower your resistance to infection.
  • If you feel some of the symptoms, chew a clove or more of raw garlic, preferably not on an empty stomach, as it has antiviral properties.
  • What to do if you have the flu:
  • Rest in bed, especially while the fever is high.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • When you have an appetite, eat mild transitional foods until you get back to regular meals- starchy foods like bananas, boiled rice, baked potatoes, cooked cereal, cottage cheese and dry toast.
  • When you have a sore throat, it is good to gargle as needed dissolving 1 tsp of salt in 1 pint of warm water.
  • If you have a headache, put an ice bag on your head. But make sure to keep the room warm. Avoid being chilled.
  • Have a humidifier on or a kettle with water boiling in the room most of the time.
  • Don?t drink alcohol. That will dehydrate you and as mentioned above, it could lower your resistance to infection.

It is very common to confuse the flu with the common cold since both illnesses have very similar symptoms. It is important to stay informed so you can take adequate care.

Understanding Why Your Cat Stalks

By their very nature, cats are excellent hunters who thoroughly enjoy stalking their prey. For domesticated cats, their “prey” can be something as simple as an insect or a wind up toy. But, is it always healthy and normal for a cat to stalk, or is there ever a reason to be concerned about a stalking cat?

As I commented even domesticated cats have the natural instinct to hunt and to stalk. With an indoor cat, stalking generally speaking is not an indication of hunger. More likely they are stalking their prey out of curiosity or because they simply need to add a little excitement to their lives. Hunting and stalking also helps the cat to get a little exercise and also provides a release for pent up energy.

For the most part, domesticated cats prefer chasing mice or other small rodents. Some even enjoy stalking and catching rabbits and birds and they will spend many hours watching their prey. A domesticated cat that is well fed will generally just play with the prey rather than try to eat it. In fact, it is rare for a well cared for domesticated cat to eat its prey. Many people think cats are cruel because they play with their prey, but this is just simply the cat’s way of satisfying its natural hunting instinct and of getting exercise.

When a cat uses its stalking skill to hunt for prey, it moves quietly and attracts very little attention. Cats particularly enjoy stalking in areas with high grass because it helps prevent their prey from seeing them. This stalking instinct can be more than a little disturbing for those cat owners who are also bird lovers. If a cat has a tendency to stalk wild birds that the cat owner wants to be left alone, it can be a good idea to tie a bell around the cat’s neck. This will help warn the birds of the nearby stalking cat although it will of course frustrate the cat who may try to remove the bell!

Negative Behaviours

Besides destroying the wild bird population with their stalking and hunting instincts, some cats can begin to exhibit their stalking behaviours in negative ways. Indoor cats that are the only cat in the household are most likely to develop negative stalking behaviours. For example, a cat can learn the patterns of behaviour of its owner. So, when it hears the owner arrive home, it might engage in stalking mode and pounce on the owner and bite them on the ankle when they gets home. This behaviour is sometimes referred to as predatory-play aggression because it combines elements of play with elements of predatory behaviour.

When this happens, the owner quite understandably becomes upset. The owner might tell the cat off or even spray them with water to attempt to make the cat stop the behaviour. However, this will rarely succeed in modifying the cat’s behaviour

Modifying Stalking Behaviour

Indoor cats tend to engage predatory-play aggressive behaviour more than outdoor cats. This is because indoor cats are more likely to become bored. In addition, outdoor cats have a far greater number of options for fulfilling their predatory behaviour. These include stalking small outdoor animals, insects, and birds.

For the indoor cat, however, buying some toys that the cat can stalk is a good idea. These give the cat the opportunity to engage in its natural predatory instincts in a healthy way. The cat should have access to toys that both involve the owner and those that do not. Toys that involve the owner help to create a bond between the pet and its owner. On the other hand, cats also need to learn how to engage in solitary play and this includes stalking and other predatory behaviours.

Choosing Toys

Toys that are lightweight and easy to move are the best types of toys to help the cat engage in its stalking behaviour. Bouncy toys are also a good choice, as are toys that hand from the top of doors or from doorknobs. Toys that hang from other items should be moved around the house, however, to help keep the cat’s environment different and enriching. Toys can even be hidden in places such as laundry baskets to add to the excitement.

Toys that resemble the natural prey of cats, such as mice, are also good choices. In addition, toys should be large enough to prevent choking, but small enough to be easily moved by the cat. The material used to create the toy should also be indestructible. Otherwise the cat, particularly kittens, will destroy the toy. This is not only messy, but also poses as a choking hazard.

A cat that is properly stimulated with toys that allow it to utilize its stalking skills will be far healthier than one that is not. In addition, the cat will be far less likely to pounce on or harm the owner or the owner’s furnishings!

Old Cabinets Look New!

There are many different types of cabinets. Everyone has kitchen cabinets, some people have built in cabinets, there are medicine cabinets, toy cabinets, garage cabinets, curio cabinets and bathroom cabinets. No matter where the cabinets are located however, they all serve one purpose ? to store things.

Sometimes we store things in a cabinet for a long period of time and they rarely get opened like a curio cabinet. Other types of cabinets are more functional and receive a lot of wear and tear and daily usage like the kitchen, garage or bathroom cabinet. Regardless of how a cabinet is being used or what it is being used to store, after a while they begin to need some sprucing up. There are a few ways to give old cabinets a new life.

A more expensive way to liven up old cabinets is to get rid of them completely and buy and install new ones. There are many varying degrees of quality when it comes to cabinets. The wood that they are, or are not, made out of will be a big factor in the cost of your cabinets. Cherry is going to be a lot more expensive than veneer material. Also the design of your cabinets will be a deciding factor in how much they will cost as well. The fancier the design on the door of the cabinet, the higher the price tag. Another thing that will determine the cost of installing new cabinets is the number of cabinets you need or the amount of space you want to fill with cabinets.

If you like the idea of new cabinets without tearing your kitchen apart or the price that comes along with that work, you can always have your cabinets refaced. Refacing involves changing out the current drawer and door fronts only. The base of your cabinets stays intact and nothing is removed from your kitchen except the old drawer fronts and doors. The biggest advantage to having your cabinets refaced as opposed to replaced is that they will be completed in about 3 days, the cost is substantially lower and you will still feel as though you got a new, updated kitchen.

There are some things that you can do however, to spruce up older cabinets before you decide to take out a small loan and install new ones. First, try changing out the hardware or knobs on your cabinets. Although higher quality knobs will cost you a little more, you will be surprised at what new knobs and drawer pulls will do to your outdated cabinets.

If knobs and pulls are not enough for you, you can also paint your wooden cabinets. There is no need to sand them down completely before you apply paint. You do need to sand them enough to make them tacky so the paint will adhere well to the surface. Also, use a primer first that is made to improve the adhesion of paint. When choosing a paint, be sure that whatever color you choose, you choose a hi-gloss finish or enamel. Enamels or hi-gloss finishes are easier to clean and really shine and stand out. By using an enamel or high gloss paint there is no need to use polyurethane as a sealant.

Whichever route you decide to take on updating your cabinets in any room, know that you have options and choices and that starting over is not the only one.

Do It Yourself or Hire a Contractor?

Do It Yourself or Hire a Contractor?

When remodeling your home, whether you are installing new circuits, redoing your living room, or just fixing that stubborn sink, homeowners are always caught in a quandary as to whether or not to call in a hired hand.

Calling in an expert is, for most people, the most prudent choice. A good many number of people have learned the hard way that fixing that leaky faucet isn’t as easy as it looks. However, these experts can come with quite a price tag and in most cases, enough to make the homeowner think twice about doing the installation or repairs themselves.

If you are one of the millions of homeowners that are considering doing the job yourself, or one of the other million seriously considering hiring a contractor, here are some tips to help you make that decision: a decision that could either cause that busted circuit to blow up, or your wallet to hemorrhage.

Does The Repair or Installation Need a Permit?

This is the first question you must ask yourself, whether or not the work to be done needs a local building permit. Simple repairs will not need such permits, but major installations may require that you apply for one. Installations that may require a permit include electrical wiring, plumbing, and other major physical additions to your home.

Most permits will require that you hire a contractor to do the job stated. So in that case, you should have one on hand.

Can I Actually Do the Thing?

You will need to honestly ask yourself whether or not you can do the installation or repair yourself. This is probably the trickiest question to ask yourself, and is probably where most homeowners fall in over their heads. If you have had experience doing jobs similar to this, or if you have been able to observe others at work with such a project, or if you aren’t confident enough
to do the repair or installation yourself, then it is probably worth hiring a contractor.

Will This Fall Within My Budget

You have to be financially realistic with an installation or repair project. Some people don’t realize that they actually can save more when they hire a contractor then doing it themselves. This happens when the time spent working on an installation costs you more than it would if you hired a contractor. This is especially true in the case of very busy people who actually spend money just to have annoyances fixed so that they can focus on their work.

Large projects may cost you more than it would a contractor – who will probably have better access to higher quality materials. However, if you are intimately familiar with the job to be done, you might have an advantage over these contractors and will be able to customize the materials and the jobs to your liking. Then again, practically speaking, larger projects are better off in the
hands of contractors.

But if your project is small, like broken faucets and doorknobs, you will probably save a ton if you do it yourself. But if you worry in the very least that you could break the broken part further, then call your contractor.

Doing it yourself is risky; if you do get the hang of it, it’s usually at the cost of a few more irreparable jams, faucets, and etc. due to having practiced on them - you will save a lot more in the long run. You will also be the envy of your neighbors’ wives and husbands, “Look at them, they do their own faucets!”

Time is gold, so you should also consider how much time such repairs or installations will cost you. If you have time to burn, and would like to improve your skills at building and repairing, then by all means take a shot at it.

In the end, you may want to do some of the repairs yourself, but you will also want to keep the number of a trusted contractor in hand for jobs you don’t want to touch. The truth be told, if you have a good-relationship with a contractor you are comfortable dealing with, you probably won’t need to consider the alternative : unless you just want to try to be Builder Bob for a day.

Organic Home Furniture Goes Mainstream

Organic foods have been around for decades, and those concerned about the pesticides and chemicals used in industrial farming have long turned to organics to ensure that the foods they eat are healthy and pure. Increasingly, though, people who don’t consider themselves to be naturalists or environmentalists are embracing eco-friendly foods and home furnishings.

Whether out of a concern for the diminishing rain forests or for the chemicals found in the carpet that their baby crawls on, there is a growing market for eco-friendly furniture and home furnishings. From organic mattresses made from cotton and wool to wood furniture made from reclaimed wood, there is a myriad of eco-friendly home furniture from which to choose.

Typically, manufacturers of eco-friendly wood furniture and decorative wood home furnishings use reclaimed timber. In other words, the wood that is used to make furniture was logged long ago and was once a bridge or other structure. By using reclaimed wood, furniture makers recycle timber that has already been logged instead of cutting down trees. Similarly, makers of eco-friendly bed linens use cotton grown on small organic farms or wool harvested organically raised sheep.

The variety of available eco-friendly wood furniture and other wood home furnishings is astounding. Many of the pieces have artisan craftsmanship, and can be proudly displayed alongside antique furniture. Wood furniture inspired by the Viking and Celtic peoples is very popular. A CD cabinet, for example, might feature Celtic scroll carving embellishments or knobs engraved with a Celtic knot pattern. Likewise, a Celtic desk might include a lattice footrest or brass handles, and be made from antique elm wood.

The popularity of Viking motifs is gaining, especially in decorative pieces. For example, a shield featuring Viking sea dragons inspired by historic carvings found in Sweden dating from between the ninth and twelfth centuries adds a touch of history and mystery to a living room’s d?cor.

Reclaimed wood is also used to make Egyptian-inspired wood furniture and decorative pieces. An Egyptian jewelry box, for example, might feature miniature hand-paintings and carved hieroglyphs, while Egyptian candlesticks might feature carvings that replicate those found on King Tutankhamen’s ceremonial chair.

From rugs to linens, from carpeting to wood furniture, eco-friendly home furnishings conserve the Earth’s resources while providing consumers with items rich in beauty and historical significance. Whether one’s tastes runs to antiques, to the Viking or Celtic eras, or to the mysteries of ancient Egyptian tombs, there are certainly organic options for home decorating.

Metal Detecting in the UK

A third style, the Printed Spiral, is made only by Tesoro for use with pulse
induction circuitry. It offers good sensitivity to a broader range of target
sizes and improved sensitivity to less conductive targets such as fine gold
chains. All searchcoils are electrostatically shielded and waterproof. There
are certain features needed for certain places the device is going to be
used for. If you intend to use it on the beach, the terrain wont be that
rigorous. But you are going to need waterproof protection.

If this is your first metal detector purchase, consider getting some
professional and expert advice to make sure that you have making the
right choice. Metal detectors usually come with a complete control box
containing the controls, circuitry, batteries, microprocessor, and the
speaker. Metal detectors also include a search shaft that connects it to
the coil and the control box. Metal detectors come with a control box
that contains the circuitry, controls, speaker, batteries and the
microprocessor; a shaft that connects the control box and the coil; a
search coil that actually senses the metal; and a stabilizer that keeps the
unit steady as it is moved. The basic metal detectors are easy to get used
to, with less features and buttons. Find out more about bounty hunter
metal detector today!

Metal Detecting in the UK

Metal detecting is a hobby that is not just popular in the United States. In
the United Kingdom, metal detecting is also a rather popular activity
enjoyed by many. Clubs, organizations and groups abound, along with
many popular locations that are perfect for metal detecting enthusiasts.

Metal detecting actually has a long and rich history in the United Kingdom.
Interestingly enough, the invention of metal detectors sprung not from a
recreational or leisurely need: on the contrary, it came from the need to
detect the locations of dangerous mines, so that they might be disarmed.
By the end of the Second World War, metal detectors had become
considerably sophisticated and effective. Soon after, some archaeologists
began using mine detectors in their digs and excavations, in search for
ancient metal artifacts.

By the 1950s, metal detectors began to be used to recover small items
like coins in England. The brothers Caiger-Smith used what were
previously mine detectors to recover modern as well as Roman coins in
the fields surrounding the town where they lived, in the Newbury area.
They even wrote and published their experience with metal detectors
and what these nifty gadgets could possibly accomplish in the future. The
paper sparked interest in metal detectors that would continue to grow
until the present time.

Go to your local ” do it yourself ” coin operated car wash. Look for the
place where they dump the contents of the 25 cent vacuum cleaners.
Search the piles and see what a gold mine they are for coins and rings.
Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a
great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts
with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector
should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting
at detect-metal.info.

ome detectors have more ways of adjusting the “fit” to the person. Some
of the other ways that detectors adjust are that the arm cup can be
raised or lowered, and the box containing the board and controls can be
taken off of the pole and mounted in a small pouch. Many people say to
us “I have always wanted to do this!” As with other electronic
equipments, innovations seems to always happen overnight. If you are
going to buy a metal detector today, try to know that technologies are
currently employed. You do not want to be behind the technology line,
right?

If you are planning to buy a metal detector, you should check out the
features of each before buying one. Metal detecting is a fun hobby but
having the wrong equipment can cost you time and money. Mention the
words metal detector and you’ll get completely different reactions from
different people. For instance, some people think of combing a beach in
search of coins or buried treasure.

As in most other countries, laws govern metal detecting in the UK. A
metal detecting enthusiast should be granted permission to go metal
detecting on all lands except those that are open to the public such as
parks and beaches that are not privately-owned. Otherwise, in the case
of fields and farms that are privately owned, you must ask permission first
before you search, and usually an agreement between the property
owner and the metal detecting enthusiast is made regarding any items of
value that may be found in the area.

There is also a Treasure Act and Code of Practice in the UK that every
metal detecting enthusiast should read and remember; as there are
certain items, such as coins that are older than three hundred years old,
that must be reported to the authorities when they are found. Metal
detecting is so popular in the United Kingdom that a national body has
been set up for the hobby. The national body is called the National
Council for Metal Detecting, or NCMD, and you can visit their site on
http://www.ncmd.co.uk, where you can find some very useful
information on metal detecting in the UK. A recent study proves that
hand-held metal detectors are just as accurate as x-rays in finding coins
and other metallic objects swallowed by children.

Now that you have learned the three different types of metal detector,
it??s up to you to make your choice as to what type of detector you wish
to use for your searches.

Some users put a rubber band around the knobs to keep them from
moving or becoming loose. You should buy a metal detector that is light
weight. This is important when you are detecting things on a riverbank or
body of water.

The Garrett Enforcer G-2 is the smallest body scanner and sensitive
enough to detect even the smallest of knives or guns.

The most popular one is the Super Scanner. It can detect hatpins as small
as one inch.

Avoid Colds And Flu With A Natural Immune Booster

Winter is upon us, and with that brings the dreaded cold and flu season. Doctor?s offices will begin to fill as patients with bronchitis, colds and flu and similar ailments seek out relief from their myriad of symptoms. What most individuals don?t realize is that have to ability to prevent these nasty illnesses before they even start. One good method is good old-fashioned hand washing. Frequent vigorous hand washing will get rid of all the germs, bacteria and viruses that you will undoubtedly pick up from doorknobs, other people, as well as by touching other things that people carrying these germs have come into contact with. Most people have been told the importance of hand washing, yet many fail to practice it, which leaves them vulnerable to catching a host of winter illnesses.

If individuals simply can?t adhere to a strict hand washing routine, taking mega doses of vitamin- C on a daily basis is a surefire way to prevent becoming sick. Two thousand milligrams a day should be sufficient, and please don?t let the instructions on the bottle confuse you or make you think that you are overdosing. Vitamin-C is constantly being used by our bodies, and if taken in large amounts, whatever our bodies can?t use will be excreted through the urine. But most of the time, your immune system will need that extra boost from the vitamin-C, in order to assist it in fighting off the countless illnesses.

Of course nothing is foolproof, and many people will still get ill, despite taking the vitamin-C. Stress can wear a person?s body down to the point that nothing helps them avoid becoming sick. There is a chance, though, to lessen the severity of the illness and shorten its course, should you feel yourself becoming sick despite the daily vitamin-C. As soon as you notice the first symptom, such as a sore throat, sneezing or runny nose, try slowly increasing the amount of vitamin-C that you take, yet only temporarily. If you increase the dosage too quickly, you will develop diarrhea, which is actually cleansing, yet of course quite troublesome, especially for busy individuals. Everyone has their own person requirement, so if and when you do develop diarrhea, that is simply an indication that you?ve surpassed your maximum dosage?or either increased it too quickly. Simply cut back a little at a time, until the diarrhea has passed. Then you will have discovered your own personal dosage. Only take this mega amount until all symptoms have subsided, then you can resume the 2000 MG dosage

The Seller's Guide to the Buyer's Eye

CannonThe Sellers Guide to the Buyers Eye

A strong tendency towards a sellers market will continue until the baby boomers finish the cycle of buying and selling real estate, estimated to end in 20 years, according to the Senior Real Estate Association. Baby boomers (born between 1946-1964) are in their peak years for real estate investment.
Real estate investments will continue to be lucrative throughout the cycle. The realtor and seller must work together to develop strategies to compete in this market. New construction is booming, and re-sells are competing with them. If a buyer looks at a house that needs work, they may assume its available for a bargain price, the handymans special. Avoid this, and obtain the maximum amount for your home sale.

The Value of Obtaining a Home Inspection
There is a number 1 rule in selling real estate for the highest dollar. The seller should obtain a home inspection before putting the home on the market. An inspection will uncover hidden problems in the home before the buyer views it. If the seller waits for the buyers inspector to inform him or her, the seller will either have to fix it or lower the price. In some cases, sellers lose the deal over issues uncovered at inspection. Sellers can waste 30-45 days during these negotiations, while the home could have been on the market for another buyer.

Curb Appeal
Remember, the buyer makes 85% of the decision about whether to buy a home when they first drive up . Its much more difficult to sell a house when all the shingles do not match in color, even if the roof is in good shape.
Exterior Cosmetics
Sellers need to make sure the house has curb appeal for a great first impression. Is the trim freshly painted? Replace rotted wood and eliminate any clutter outside the house. Make sure gutters are cleaned and are attached to the house. The roof should be cleaned of debris with no loose shingles. Be certain vinyl siding on the exterior is secured and in good repair.

Lawn, Garden, Shrubbery
The lawn, garden, and shrubberies are critical. Spend about $15-$85 for some plants and mulch for the front yard. If there is no grass, seed the lawn. Bushes must be trimmed and away from the building to prevent moisture damage. Cut the lawn regularly, and weed the garden.
Finishing Touches
Some finishing touches include placing 2 of pea gravel around the house between the bed area and the grass area for drainage. If the house has a gravel driveway, put fresh gravel down. Check all outside wood for termite or moisture damage that needs to be replaced and treated.
Interior Painting
Paint your house in neutral colors: sand, magnolia, cream. Rooms look best with a yellow tinged base paint because this coloring reflects light and makes the room seem larger. Avoid black ceilings, stenciling on walls, or painting your home in white so it resembles a hospital maternity ward. If there has been a previous leak in the roof paint over the water stains on the ceiling. Fill in any nail holes in the walls.
Flooring and Windows
Bold patterned or bold colored rugs should be removed. Its best to keep the floor coloring neutral for to appeal to many tastes. If there is cracked ceramic tile, or the vinyl floors are scratched or damaged, replace the flooring. Rugs must be freshly shampooed to remove any odors, and carpet holes and stains should be repaired and removed.
Windows need to be cleaned and repaired so buyers can look outside unencumbered. If the blinds are missing slats replace them or remove window coverings altogether.
Bathrooms/Kitchen
In the kitchen, you may want to put a fresh coat of paint on painted cabinets, or if they are wood– oil them. Check the countertops for burn marks or stains, cut marks, etc. and replace them if it is necessary.
In the bathroom, make sure there is no visible mold. If there is, then bleach, caulk, or re-grout tubs, sinks and toilets.
Details
All clutter should be boxed up and stored. Do not place it in the garage. Obtain a storage unit or Pod.
Make certain closet doors open and close easily. Dont forget to replace doorknobs, hinges, brackets, or other missing or broken items.
This may sound like a great deal of work in preparing a home for the market. This attention to small details will help your home sell quickly for a higher price. In some areas of the country, youll even receive multiple offers for your home. Home buyers are not the only ones who look at these details. Appraisers also tend to assign a higher value to property which is in good condition.

If a property needs attention an appraisers price or buyers offer will reflect it. Obtain the highest price for a home by investing some time, thought, energy and resources into the details and you will be rewarded handsomely.

Crystal Radio Sets are Alive and Kicking

Author: Ned Norris

I was brought up under strict conditions. Bedtime was at a certain rigid time every night. Lights out meant no reading; it meant sleep. It certainly did not include listening to radio broadcasts.

But as a child of thirteen, I discovered the delights of the
crystal set. It was a frustrating affair. The workings of it
have remained a complete mystery. How, I wondered then, could a lump of gray mineral possibly capture radio waves and do so without a battery?

Now, several decades later, the answers are easy to find on the Internet here I quickly discover that crystal sets, and the parts to make them, are readily available today even though they look vastly different from the crude thing I had. In comparison, todays lookwellpositively modern.

To my amazement, according to Google there are 81,200 pages that contain the phrase crystal set.

There is even The Xtal Set Society http://www.midnightscience.com which says it is “dedicated to once again building and experimenting with radio electronics. It advertises books, parts and kits. One kit is called the Quaker Oat Box Radio Pack. It contains one roll of 24-gauge hook-up wire (100 feet), one germanium diode, one 47,000-ohm resistor, one alligator clip, and one crystal earplug. Sounds just about as basic as my old setbut I dont remember the other
instructions that come with this kit: You will need to provide your own antenna wire and oatmeal box.

The advertised price is $8.95. Do some reverse inflation
calculations and you will know better than I now remember roughly how much I paid for my set back in 1947. Any money I had in those days was earned by not spending my lunch money at school, so I know the set I had was dirt-cheap.

Radio Shack sells starter kits too. Describing a project for
beginning experimenters at http://www.thebest.net/wuggy/rs99fun.htm one reviewer said the Radio Shack crystal radio kit Cat. No. 28-178 is a pretty fair starter set. It does work, and some simple modifications will enhance its performance. When he wrote four years ago, the price was $9.99. After some modifications, which he describes, he was able to listen to New York, Netherlands Antilles, Cuba, Charlotte NC, Chicago, and a few others. What a difference a
coil of wire for an antenna makes!

For some fascinating photographs, you might want to take a look at http://www.schmarder.com/radios/crystal With their knobs and dials for tuning in a favorite station they make me positively envious!

There was no simple method for tuning my set. I remember there was a contact of some sort, and that by moving this minuscule distances across the crystal you could, with much patience, tune in a radio station. Usually, it was faint. Fiddle with the contact and the signal would be lost and found again many times
before a signal strong enough to enjoy came in. And it would often disappear in the middle of a show for no obvious reason.

He aims and fires, but he missesand that was his last bullet. The killer reaches for him, the axe raised in his other hand, and fizzle, crackle, silence. Mutter, mutter (the latter being me)!

Now I understand I needed to pay much more attention to installing a good antenna a 50-foot piece of wire outside the house and as high as possible and that I needed a good ground. But as a 13-year-old, I simply wanted to listen under the bed covers in the dark to my favorite radio thriller.

It almost didnt matter what the program was. Each had the compelling signature music, sometimes just single musical notes, the voices with their sense of urgency, the suspense, the climax, the scripting formula. I also remember the screech of car tires in chase scenes. It was pretty gripping stuff for a small boy.

Remember how shoes were always soled in hard leather? Rubber didnt make enough noise. Doors always squeaked; silent ones would not have been much use on radio. And do I remember correctly that detectives were always men and that secretaries were always women?

Today, when I recall those days long ago, I remember the crystal radio set with its finicky connection that would fade to almost nothing at the crucial point in the story. Then it would come back just as the announcer was saying something like: So long! See you next week.

“Bling is bigger than ever! Ice candy.co.uK Fuse fashion and function with precious Swarovski crystal”

In an era of more - more people, more color, more noise, more graphics , It is very hard for any individual to stand out from the crowd. And one must admit that there is nothing like a little sparkle to catch the eye and honestly if a little is good, a lot is much better! So it’s no wonder that bling is bigger than ever!

Now London Based Company Ice- Candy, who specialize in using Swarovski crystals to “bling” everyday items, are offering a luxury crystallization service after designer Joelle Diop, 26, who is making a name for herself in the mobile-phone customization industry decided to apply 2000 Swarovski crystals to her boring black mobile phone. Others saw her phone, and orders started coming in.

Ice-candy.co.uk was born. It takes between six and eleven hours to do the custom work (each crystal is painstakingly applied by hand), and clients get their shiny new phone in five to ten days after the initial meeting. Joelle advises her customers to use their new phone for a while before having it crystallized to make sure it is one they will want to keep.

Although Joelle started doing simple solid color and geometric designs, her work has evolved to include complex design, floral and tattoo motifs. She also works with two artists, Kendra Rose and Hannah Kane, to help clients customize their designs.

Joelle has added the crystal touch to items as large as Scooters, Motorcycle helmets, laptop computers and as personal as a Baby Pram. Most recently, she added to collection accessories such as game consoles like the X-box and the T-mobile Sidekick just launched in the UK and for promotional events, designed Champagne bottles, perfume bottles and crystallized corporate logos. And, for a price, she can do it for you, too.

“Our newest division” explains Joelle “was created with the single purpose of applying Swarovski crystals to automotive and other vehicle parts giving them a sparkle and shine that is simply unmatched. Logos, emblems, license plate frames, fenders, shifter knobs, grills, and key chains are just a few of the items that we Bling in cars”
As proof that the interest in luxurious phone customization is growing in the mobile phone industry, Ice-candy have already entered into negotiation with UK mobile phone providers for a partnership in order to offer customization service to their high-end customers. ” We are also planning to open a branch in France in the next 3 month ” explains Joelle “and we’re hoping to see a similar level of interest there’
Joelle Diop offers a range of DIY on her website www.Ice-candy.co.uk Each kit contains between 1440 x 2.8mm crystals and 300 x 2.8mm crystals, a glue, wax tipped applicator and full instructions. Kits are available in an array of colors starting at 29.99. You can also book an appointment with Joelle herself or one of her designer or ultimately get them to come to see you.

The Tacoma Vent (lb brass) Visor: Complete Your Vacation Gear!

Filed under: Ginger, Lbbp 2-12 Iron Art Door Knob, Texas Knobs N&#039; Things — Admin @ 9:56 am

The Tacoma Vent Visor: Complete Your Vacation Gear!

When it comes to long trips and other hard-core traveling, the Toyota Tacoma is engineered to meet most off-road driving requirements. Newly and totally redesigned in 2005, the Toyota Tacoma is currently topping the charts with improved sales statistics (as much as 28.4% during the first two months of this year)–a stark contrast to the sharp declines of rival models.

The Tacoma has really hit it big with it’s redesign. With it’s much more masculine styling, the Toyota Tacoma is a lot more eye-catching than most other Toyota models. And with the high-performance, 236 horsepower V-6 engine that is purchased with it makes the Tacoma not only all-flashy decors — it comes with a powerful performance to boot.

The interiors are not to be bypassed. Equipped with easy to clean upholstery, comfortable bucket seats, large knobs that are easy to grip even with gloves on, and a remarkably quiet cabin, the Tacoma has really very satisfied test drivers. There’s plenty of space enough for a whole family!

Of course, a pick-up is not complete without the towing package. The Toyota Tacoma can pull up to 6,500 lbs.–giving plenty of things to lug around for recreational activities. A prospective Tacoma buyer has a choice of a six-foot or five-foot bed. The longer bed naturally gives more space (for bikes and other big stuff), but the downside is that it makes turning and parking a tricky task.

Fuel economy is a significant matter, especially with continuing increase of oil price. If you’re concerned about your gas mileage (and your budget), the two-wheel drive Toyota Tacoma with a regular cab and a four-cylinder engine is rated to get 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on the highway — just right for long trips to the beach or the countryside.

With a made-for-vacation-trip vehicles such as the Toyota Tacoma, long trips can get oppressive and there are times when you just can’t resist the thought of smelling the fresh country air or the sea breeze when you go for long trips. However, at times, there are certain circumstances that prevent you from doing this: things such as excessive traffic noise, too much wind and cold air, and rain or snow getting into your interiors and your face.

Fortunately, there’s a simple and practical (not to mention affordable) accessory that all you fresh-air loving automobile owners can get for your cars. The Tacoma vent visors, or more popularly known as rain guards, deflects rain and snow, hence allowing you to lower down your windows a few inches without getting wet. Installing Tacoma vent visors will also help in keeping the noise and strong winds out of your car. And the Tacoma vent visors also enhance the style and over-all character of your car by adding a smoky effect to your windows.

We all want our pride and joy to look our best, and our trips to be as enjoyable as possible. The Tacoma vent visor is one of the most useful yet most affordable accessories that you can install your Toyota Tacoma.

Great Ways To Give Your Old Cabinets A New Look

Cupboards are everywhere, but regardless of their station, all cabinets serve one purpose: storage.

Some cabinets require less usage. A curio cabinet or trophy case is a good example of this particular cabinet. We put items in these cabinets that we want to look at on a regular basis, but we don?t tend to use these cabinets very often. We don?t open and close them very much. However, some cabinets see a lot of action. Kitchen and bathroom cabinets get lots of action. It doesn?t really matter what you have in your cabinets. What is important is to realize that sooner or later, you will have to make some minor repairs to keep your cabinets looking great.

Probably, the most expense way to restore old cabinets is to remove and replace. Be aware, though, that there are several issues to consider when buying new cabinets. Wood will obviously cost more than most other materials. However, it is usually more attractive and longer lasting. The overall design of the cabinets as well as the number of cabinets will also play a large factor in the price of the cabinets. As the artistry or architecture of the cabinet gets more complicated, the price rises. For example, a simple flat door design may cost as little as $40 per door, whereas a more complicated door with even a few etchings may be as much as $100 per door. Design matters when you are on a tight budget.

Refacing is another way to restore old cabinets without ?tearing down the house?. This process only involved the removal and replacement of the facing of the drawers and cabinets and does not involve removing any of the frame work. The cost for such a renovation is substantially lower than new cabinets, and the finished product is produced much quicker. Refacing can be performed in approximately three days, whereas complete replacement of cabinets can take as long as a couple of months. However, just as in replacement cabinetry, extricate design will cost more.

If your budget does not allow for the replacement or restoration of new cabinets, there are still things you can do to make your cabinets look new again. New knobs and drawer pulls are relatively inexpensive and can make a world of difference in the overall look and feel of the cabinetry. If you don?t get quite the look you were after, try also replacing the hinges. New hinges will also make your cabinet doors look better and brighter.

For a little more money, try painting or refinishing your wooden cabinets. You don?t have to remove all the old paint or stain before repainting or staining. You can sand the cabinets and drawers (everything that can be seen) just enough for paint or stain to stick to it. (Read the directions carefully if you choose to restain. Staining may require extra preparation.) If you are painting, be sure to you a primer before applying the final coat of paint. This will ensure that the paint will adhere to the cabinetry.

Impact Of A Bird Flu Pandemic Hits Home

If the avian flu virus mutates so that the disease can be transmitted from one human to another, we will face a pandemic with the potential to kill a billion people worldwide. It is important for people to educate themselves, their family and their neighbors about bird flu and the concrete steps they can take now can to lessen the spread of the disease.

Waiting to prepare for a pandemic is like waiting for a category five hurricane to come ashore before racing to the lumber yard for plywood. A pandemic is even more dangerous than a localized natural disaster because a virus can be transported by airplane to virtually anywhere in the world within a matter of days.

Pandemic preparation has two integral components. First, you should have a basic 3 day emergency kit, just as you would for an earthquake, storm, hurricane, or other disaster. The only difference in preparing for a pandemic is that you should extend the level of preparation to last much longer. The flu lasts approximately two weeks, but it can conservatively take 6-8 weeks for it to go through a population. During this time you will need to be prepared for disruption of services just as with other large scale emergencies.

Second, is the preparation for “infection control,” it involves hygiene and barriers to contamination. Hygiene includes hand washing, covering sneezes and coughs, and daily disinfection of surfaces such as doorknobs, keyboards, and faucets. The “barrier method” of infection control requires that sick individuals be isolated and that others wear protective clothing. Only by wearing the appropriate quality masks, gloves, and goggles can the flu virus be prevented from entering through the mucosal membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Dr. Fenstersheib, the Public Health Officer for Santa Clara County, California, predicted that in the event of a pandemic, 25-35% of the population would become ill. He said, “With the burden this will place on the healthcare system and the government infrastructure, it is clear that each individual and family in our community must take on the responsibility to be prepared to care for sick family members during a pandemic. With proper supplies and instruction, home preparedness will go a long way to lessen illness and save lives.”

Tracy Ferea, Ph.D. is a published scientist whose research at Stanford University focused on the evolution of microbial genomes. She writes for BirdFluSmart.com to increase the general publics understanding of the risk of a bird flu pandemic. Bird Flu Smart’s mission is to prepare the public for a pandemic by providing both information and products, that increase preparedness.

Introduction to Cooktops

There are a lot of differences in cooktops. Some are electric cooktops, gas cooktops and pro-style gas rangetops. Gas and electric cooktops come in a multitude of styles and configurations to complement your unique cooking style and kitchen decor. Electric cooktops can often feature custom control temperature management system that allows elements to repond in a way that is similar to cooking with gas. Electric smoothtop cooktops are easier to clean than gas cooktops, with more flexible features.

In general, gas cooktops aren’t as well-reviewed as electric cooktops. Although gas cooktops aren’t as easy to clean as electric smoothtop models, many owners like the visual control over heat that comes with a gas cooktop.

Cooktop surfaces can range from ceramic cooktops, glass cooktops to stainless steel cooktops, flat one-piece ceramic glass surfaces are sleek and easy-to-clean. Stainless steel cooktops offer the user that modern, clean look. Glass ceramic cooktops have basically three options: radiant, halogen, magnetic-induction.

Each type uses electricity to heat up a flat, glass ceramic surface, using control knobs or a touchpad to turn the heat on and off. Induction cooktops are the latest technology, using electromagnetic energy to heat the pan while maintaining a cooler cooktop. These cooktops are the latest technology and often carry with it a much higher price tag. Magnetic induction doesn’t work with aluminum pots and pans, only with steel and cast iron. If you can’t stick a magnet on your pots and pans, they won’t work with this option.

Cooktop buyers have a lot of options to choose from. The best policy before buying a cooktop is to do research on the various methods of cooking as well as reading the reviews found all over the internet on cooktops.

Six Things You Can Do To Prepare For The Coming Pandemic

A recent survey showed that 60% of American businesses were not ready for the coming Avian Influenza pandemic. However, 73% said they wanted to get ready, but weren’t sure what to do. Here then, is a starter list of six things you should include in your business preparedness plan.

1. Absenteeism will be high due to illness or refusal to come to the workplace out of fear. Gather your key employees in accounting, sales, marketing, manufacturing, and management and develop a work-from-home strategy.

2. Offer your employees who must come into the plant a safe environment. Hire a sterilization team to scrub the plant’s exposed surfaces every day. A bleach/water solution will kill all pathogens in the workplace. Be sure to have plenty of NanoMasks and Nanofilters on hand for each employee. Clean all HVAC vents thoroughly. Bring in portable, commercial grade UV air filters and place them around work areas.

3. Establish an in-house clinic with a full-time RN or LPN. When this pandemic hits, hospitals will be overwhelmed and understaffed. Victims of H5N1 must be started on antivirals immediately. A mobile clinic parked outside your office building, or a designated emergency treatment area within your plant will promote confidence.

4. There isn’t going to be a vaccine for H5N1 available for probably 12 months or more. Your best shot at survival will be antivirals and good hygiene. Purchase ViraGard spray and hand it out freely to employees. Encourage them to spray surfaces, knobs, handles, keyboards, and their own hands.

5. Do not allow immune-compromised employees, or employees with any type of immune disorder to come into the workplace once the pandemic starts. A special care plan for these employees should be developed that includes self-quarantine.

6. Develop a secure, confidential website that allows all employees to read the latest company news and action items, and allow employees to contribute news to the website to keep everyone informed.

The first pandemic wave will probably last about 90 days. You’ll need medical supplies, plenty of soap, potable water, disinfectant, emergency power for those days when electricity will fail, and someone to monitor, gather, and disseminate local pandemic news to your employees. This pandemic will have a huge negative impact on the economy. Those businesses that prepare now will suffer the least.

Types Of Guitarz

Whether it is the dull strumming of acoustics or the vibrating scream of an electric model, guitars come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and types. The next time you turn on the radio or watch MTV, you are sure to encounter the visual or audio of a guitar playing in your presence. As you explore the wide range of guitars on the market, you will find various options are utilized within rock, pop, blues and country music. While a standard guitar features six strings, there are many variations that offer a four-, seven-, eight-, ten- and twelve-string combination.

When it comes time to purchase a guitar of your own, you will find yourself faced with the decision of choosing the type of instrument that matches your interests, as well as playing ability. For starters, there are two main categories that these magical instruments are grouped into: acoustic and electric. Below are a few examples of both, as well as a brief mention of their distinct characteristics.

Acoustic Guitars

with regard to amplification, an acoustic guitar does not use any outside devices. It is through the shape and resonance that the acoustic sound you hear is created. While other types of guitars rely on electrical means to boost loudness, an acoustic guitar is by far one of the lowest sounding instruments on the block. This is why you will not see the acoustic guitar being played in a band or orchestra. It simply cannot find a voice among the reverberating sounds of the cymbals, drums, trumpets and trombones.

For those who wish to increase the level of loudness that their acoustic guitar produces, many models now come with built-in technology to create enhanced amplification. Some of the selections included under the umbrella of acoustic guitars include steel string guitars, “folk” guitars, twelve-string guitar and the arch top guitar. An acoustic bass guitar also falls under this category.

Musicians who strum a classical guitar will pluck nylon strings to create the sound they wish to duplicate. Various cultural acoustic guitar examples also appear within the Latino culture. With its sharper sound, flamenco guitars illustrate flamenco music, while Mexican mariachi bands utilize acoustic guitars called the requinto and the guitarron. Some acoustic guitars are named after countries, such as the Portuguese guitar. Additional acoustic guitars include the harp and the extended-range model.

Electric Guitars

When checking out the electric guitar category, there are certain features that do not appear in the acoustic guitar variety. A whammy bar, volume and tone knobs, as well as multiple pickups are offered through most electric guitar options. There bodies may also appear different, ranging from semi-hollow to solid to completely hollow. Since the guitar is electric, there are additional features or characteristics included, such as steel strings, vacuum tubes and amplification.

A popular instrument choice in rock, blues and jazz, the electric guitar allows users to experiment with a wide range of musical techniques. Many musicians dabble in the art of tapping, hammer-ons and volume swells. The difference in sound with an electric guitar can be seen through the number of strings it possesses. For example, with the seven-string solid body electric guitar, darker sounds are achieved by using the lower end of the guitar’s capabilities, which became a popular choice among musicians in the 1990s.

Additional electric guitar details include the two extra low strings found on an eight-string guitar, as well as the depth and many possibilities that a 12-string electric guitar has to offer. The electric bass guitar, double-necked guitar and the 5.1 surround guitar are also coupled in the category of electric guitars.

Learning to play the guitar dose not have to be costly or an aggravating experience. Rajeev Rampersad shows you how it is possible with his new website. Please visit http://www.allaboutguitarz.com for more information.

What To Look For When You Buy A Digital Camera

The good news is that there are plenty of great digital cameras to choose from these days. The bad news is that there is an ever increasing array of types and models as well and it can all get very confusing very fast. So lets discuss some of the features that you can expect to look for as you shop.

Size is an important consideration to many when it comes to digital cameras, and even the subcompact category of cameras still packs a lot of punch for it’s size. You can expect to see resolution in many subcompacts on up to 7 megapixels, which should be more than enough to let you print sharp and clear photos on up to 11 X 14 in size. The only thing that you should be careful of with cameras that small is that the controls and knobs can almost be too small sometimes and be difficult to operate easily for some. That’s why it’s a good idea to physically try out a subcompact before actually purchasing it to make sure that it will be easy and simple to use in spite of it’s small dimensions.

Another important consideration when you buy a digital camera is it’s speed, both when it firsts starts up and when you press the shutter. Film cameras come on instantly and are ready to fire, but digital cameras have to take some time to power up and get ready. In some models it can even take several seconds to take your first picture, which means that you could easily lose some photo opportunities due to your camera not being able to power up on time. So check the startup time for each camera that you look at, and select those that have the quickest power up cycle.

The other speed issue that can come into play is the time lag between the moment when you press the shutter and the actual moment when the picture is taken. In some digital cameras the shutter lag can take almost a full second, which is all dead time that prevents you from taking other photos. In some fast action sequences you could be missing some very important shots, so try to get a camera that reduces the shutter lag under half a second if possible.

If you like to have more exposure control than a fully automatic camera offers you can find some limited manual features on the subcompact and compact digital cameras, but in general the more manual controls you want, the larger camera you will need to buy. In fact, there are several advanced digital cameras that offer manual controls that rival those found in a digital single lens reflex camera, but in order to get those extra features you will need to spend more money and the weight and size will also go up at the same time.

As with many consumer electronics products, there are tradeoffs to make when you select models from different camera classes, but hopefully the tips given above can help you choose and buy a digital camera that will fit you best.
